On today's episode I'm joined by Paul Seidler and Sam Hart. Paul Seidler is an artist and design researcher. He is co-founder of terra0, an art project, DAO, and EVM framework for automated ecosystem management and simulation. He has worked at research groups including Hybrid Platform and Design Research Lab and has created onchain NFT artworks including Straylight Protocol, which explores multiplayer EVM-gaming with onchain NFT automata. Sam Hart Berman is a programmer and artist. He has a background academic biochemistry publishing, fine art curation, interdisciplinary publishing at Avant.org and Other Internet, and has contributed to various technical projects including the design of EIP-1559, the FOAM mesh network blockchain, Cosmos' Interchain Foundation, and now Skip Protocol, which is building infrastructure for mitigating bad MEV the Cosmos ecosystem. Both Paul and Sam contribute to Folia, an NFT open edition curated platform, and live in Berlin. In this episode, we discuss Paul's recent talk On Smart Contracts as a Medium, which he presented at Trust Support. We use this jumping off point to discuss blockchain as an art making medium. We cover a variety of interesting art and research projects including Rhea Myers' Is Art, OpenTimestamps, Sam's One Token, Brotchain, VanityBlocks, Sam's Kudzu NFT, and much, much more.  It was a pleasure talking to Paul and Sam about the spectrum of conceptual art, from fine art experimentation through research projects and infrastructure building. Not only is Simon De La Rouviere the founder of Untitled Frontier, which explores the intersection of storytelling and web3, but he is also an early Ethereum developer who worked on creating the ERC-20 token standard. He's also a science fiction writer and author of “The Hoperunners of Gridlock” which you can check out in the links below. We dive into the intersection of web3 and the creator economy, and Simon shares his thoughts on the ways in which web3 technology can empower creators to more directly interact with their fans. We touch on Li Jin's theory of the 100 true fans, and Simon describes what he would like the future creator economy to look like. We discuss CC0, and the ways in which web3 is changing IP models for the benefit of creators. We also talk about creator royalties and how they should be utilized correctly. Simon shares his first hand experience as a creator when he wrote “Hoperunners of Gridlock” and we compare web2 and web3 creator monetization models. Simon shares his thoughts on the current narrative of web3 and highlights what he thinks web3 marketers should focus on.We get the inside scoop on Simon's latest project, Untitled Frontier, which is a platform for fiction writers to sell NFTs related to their stories, and something SImon is so passionate about that even if he had all the money in the world and never had to work another day in his life, he would still be dedicating his time to it.

Under the current centralized system, drug development happens in silos.  Pharmaceutical companies don't share information. Scientists run the same failed experiments over and over again. And the process of bringing a drug to market typically takes ten-plus years.  But Paul Kohlhaas and Tyler Golato are building a new way to do drug development. A system that allows for collaboration and dramatically increases the speed of breakthroughs in healthcare.  CEO Paul and CSO Tyler are the Cofounders of Molecule, a decentralized biotech protocol that establishes a Web3 marketplace for research-related intellectual property.  On this episode of Boost VC, Paul and Tyler join us to explain how their personal experiences with the failures of healthcare inspired their interest in changing the system.  They discuss Molecule's end-to-end ecosystem for bringing drugs to market, describing how their IP-NFT both protects innovation and makes it more open, sharable and collaborative.  Listen in for insight on Eroom's Law and learn how open science leads to enormous efficiency gains in the drug development process. Topics Covered How Paul & Tyler define scienceEmpirical discovery of knowledgeProgressive search for truth What inspired Paul & Tyler's interest in sciencePersonal experience with failures of healthcarePotential for DeSci to foster new behaviors Paul & Tyler's failed experiment with crowdfundingTried to raise money for microdosing studyPartnership with University of Toronto How Molecule has evolved since 2019Ecosystem for bringing drugs to marketIP-NFT framework for collaboration How to make scientists more open to sharingImprove user experienceStreamline funding process The power of Molecule's IP-NFT frameworkIntellectual property rights held on chainCollectively owned by patients The value prop for open scienceCreates enormous efficiency gainsMakes drug development much cheaper Jack Scannel's naming of Eroom's LawTechnology to discover drugs improvingYet drug discovery output in decline The goals for DeSci over the next decadeExtend quality of human health spanMake science self-sovereign, self-aware How Paul & Tyler define successRemain true to values and vision for lifeNet positive impact on every person Connect with Paul Kohlhaas & Tyler Golato Molecule https://www.molecule.to/Molecule on GitHub https://github.com/moleculeprotocolMolecule on Discord https://discord.com/invite/uAGW7K4hQUMolecule on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWYW5ho3L_d0EO_a619E7RQMolecule on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/molecule-protocol  Molecule on Twitter https://twitter.com/molecule_daoPaul on Twitter https://twitter.com/paulkhlsTyler on Twitter https://twitter.com/GolatoTyler Resources Linum Labs https://www.linumlabs.com/Molecule's Crowdfunding Experiment with the University of Toronto https://www.molecule.to/blog/psychedelics-on-the-blockchainNIH Grants and Funding https://www.nih.gov/grants-fundingSimon de la Rouviere on Bonding Curves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k4M6QAW2pMJack Scannell on Eroom's Law https://refoundable.com/research/life-after-erooms-law-interview-with-jack-scannell.htmlMeme Lordz https://memelordz.io/North American Association of Technology Transfer http://aim.autm.net/Ray Kurzweil https://www.kurzweilai.net/Peter Diamandis https://www.diamandis.com/Abundance 360 https://www.abundance360.com/summit Connect with Boost VC Boost VC Website https://www.boost.vc/Boost VC on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/boostvc/Boost VC on Twitter https://twitter.com/BoostVCBoost VC on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/boost_vc/

EP:46 Depreciating Licensing Model in NFT Ownership with Anthony Lee Zhang from UChicago Booth

NFT is not just about digital art and tokenising assets. There are so many more things we can do with NFTs, like embedding property rights, more efficient mechanism design of property rights allocation and balancing between the various types of tradeoffs. Today, we have with us Anthony Lee Zhang, assistant professor of Finance at UChicago Booth. He co-authored a paper with Glen Weyl on depreciating licenses (DL). Licenses are basically property rights, and NFT is about tokenising these property rights. (A chapter in the book) In Depreciating Licenses, Anthony and Glen came up with a simple game theory model of asset ownership. Basically you own a fixed percentage of the property and the remaining percentage is auctioned off or being sold each time period. In this way, it mixes both a full ownership model and full rental model. This is absolutely fascinating because in property rights allocation, we typically experience the trade off between investment incentive (owning the asset 100%) VS asset allocation (allocating to the best person who values the item the highest right now). With depreciating licenses model, this mixes both and balances the trade off. Human beings have a penchant for creating lists. We make lists for things like the top music artists at any given time, the best restaurants in the world, companies which people can trust, and the most wanted criminals. Lists take many forms. They can be maintained by a single authority, or curated by a crowd. But almost always, they remain in the custody of a central party. Token Curated Lists propose a model by which a) the content of lists are decentralized, and b) contributors are incentivized to curate their content according to social consensus. We’re joined by Simon de la Rouviere, an independent researcher and blogger. Previously, Simon was one of the first employees at ConsenSys and founded Ujo Music. He also contributed to the ERC20 token specification and has written about blockchain and token economics since 2014. In recent months, Simon’s research has focused on Token Curated Registries (or TCRs), and the economics of curation markets. They tell us why we are just at the beginning of a new revolution and how it compares to the rise of the web in the 90s.They promise that “things are going to get weird.” For example, the future your kids inhabit might be one where they earn money as “meme traders” and where cars are not only self-driving but self-owning as well. They also explain why in the future “if it’s not on the blockchain, it didn’t happen” and why it might become very difficult for us to discern what reality in fact actually is.Thanks for listening — if you like what you hear, please review us on your favorite podcast platform. Recalling State Change #40 Weaponized AI propaganda machine, we discussed at length the value of attention. Today we take this subject to it’s maximum extend. Software engineer Simon de la Rouviere and biochemical engineer Meher Roy shed light on how the battle for our attention is the basis for the online economy. We see it in the business models of two of the biggest companies on earth — Facebook and Google. That ever present question of how blockchain will affect these dynamics hangs over the discourse. Simon envisions a post scarcity world in which the only remaining economy is the attention economy. Meher takes a more conservative position. Between these two perspectives we get a foundational understanding of the dynamics involved, and a view of how they might evolve. https://twitter.com/MeherRoy https://twitter.com/simondlr itunes.apple.com/podcast/state…d1088310627?mt=2 twitter.com/Statechange_ Statechange.net
