Trent McConaghy is founder of Ocean Protocol. He has 25 years of deep tech experience with a focus on AI and blockchain. He co-founded Analog Design automation Inc. in 1999, which built AI-powered tools for creative circuit design. It was acquired by Synopsys in 2004. He co-founded Solido Design Automation in 2004, using AI to mitigate process variation and help drive Moore's Law. Solido was later acquired by Siemens. He then went on to launch ascribe in 2013 for NFTs on Bitcoin, then Ocean Protocol in 2017 for decentralized data markets for AI. He currently focuses on Ocean Predictoor for crowd-sourced AI prediction feeds.

It was acquired by Synopsys in 2004. He co-founded Solido Design Automation in 2004, using AI to mitigate process variation and help drive Moore's Law. Solido was later acquired by Siemens. He then went on to launch ascribe in 2013 for NFTs on Bitcoin, then Ocean Protocol in 2017 for decentralized data markets for AI. He currently focuses on Ocean Predictoor for crowd-sourced AI prediction feeds.

Trent McConaghy is an AI and blockchain expert and the founder of Ocean Protocol, a decentralized data marketplace. Ocean's newest product is Predictoor, a decentralized prediction feed platform.   Why you should listen Trent shares his journey from being raised on a farm to studying electrical engineering and computer science. He talks about his experience in starting companies focused on AI for chip design and exploring the creative uses of AI through his PhD.  Trent has always been ahead of the curve and has been publishing thought pieces on tokens, blockchain, big data, AI, solarpunk, nfts, Moore's law, transhumanism, UBI, human actualisation, life on mars, and Dyson spheres over the two decades. Trent focuses his work at the intersection of AI, blockchain, and data. Ocean Protocol aims to connect the dots and envision future possibilities by focusing on interpolation rather than extrapolation. They have been building decentralized data marketplaces since 2017. Their core team has been divided into three sub-teams to pursue different traction hypotheses in data and AI.  One of the projects is Predictoor, which focuses on time series prediction using accurate prediction feeds and data coordination. The goal of Ocean Protocol is to create an open data economy where individuals and organizations can easily make money by adding value to data through AI models, predictions, actions, and revenue generation loops. Ocean Protocol is now focused on allowing people to make money in the Ocean ecosystem, particularly through DeFi.  Predictoor is a two-sided marketplace where predictors submit predictions and traders buy those predictions. The predictions are made every five minutes for various cryptocurrencies and traders can purchase them for a straightforward price of $1 per feed per day. The accuracy of the predictions determines whether users can make money, taking into account fees and slippage. Predictions can be made using AI ML models based on historical data. This crowdsourced approach allows data scientists to practice their skills while providing accurate prediction feeds to users. The goal is to have thousands or even millions of accurate prediction feeds available in different domains such as weather forecasts, traffic congestion, digital asset prices, etc., benefiting various industries and normal people alike. For example, accurate predictions for energy demand and price are crucial at both individual and national levels to avoid issues like brownouts or blackouts. Predictions are closely linked with intelligence and can be applied across various industries. From technological breakthrough to philosophical defiance, the topic of AI has always sparked intense debates ever since Alan Turing & John McCarthy advanced this branch of computer science. One might argue that this was caused by expectations overwhelmingly surpassing technological capabilities. However, the recent public release of ChatGPT has rekindled former sci-fi apocalyptical scenarios, even if it is (still) just a trained language model. Humanity gazed in awe as a simple input/output text interface could instantly disrupt fields such as software engineering or copywriting. Worst part? It also challenged (arguably) the most important human-specific trait: creativity (Midjourney). The machines we interact with every day make our lives easier. As they become more intelligent and able to help us in new ways, we need to take a step back and consider whether how third parties govern them is fit for purpose, particularly as we move towards a world with autonomous vehicles. Many machines, devices, and vehicles we use daily are centrally controlled, limiting what the machines can or can't do regarding the provision and rendering of goods and services. Machines built for Web2 exist in a closed, permission-based environment, which massively limits how they can interact with other machines, where they can go, and what they can do. Existing identification numbers are one-dimensional and are used to label machines and their specifications. This does not enable them to leverage their identity to enable movement, service authorization, trade, or payment. Sheridan Johns, Enterprise Lead at Ocean Protocol, and Leonard Dorlöchter, co-founder of Peaq discuss their mission to enable the secure, fast, and frictionless transfer of value and data between humans and machines through Self-Sovereign Machine IDs (SSMIs). I learn how the implementation of SSMIs as digital identities will enable vehicles, machines, robots, and devices to identify themselves with each other, people, and their environment. Decentralized Machine IDs will solve some of our biggest societal and economic challenges while enabling communities to benefit from the increased use of machines and automation within the workplace.
