You’ve probably seen the recent viral video of a man eating outside during a blizzard. You might’ve even heard that his restaurant, Trattoria L’Incontro, was one of the first Barstool Fund recipients. But what’s the story behind Rocco Sacramone? How did a poor kid from a small town in Italy manage to build a high-quality Italian restaurant in Astoria, Queens open for 21 years and is frequented by celebrities and politicians from around the world?
On Sunday, April 19, 2020, City Watch host Jeff Simmons talked with New York State Senator Julia Salazar, Queens Theatre Executive Director Taryn Sacramone, and Girl Scouts of Greater New York CEO Meridith Maskara. The show also featured WBAI Correspondent Celeste Katz Marston’s latest coronavirus diary dispatch with John Oswald.
Taryn Sacramone and her eight year old son, Rocco join Jonathan to give some advice and perspective on raising kids. And also some cool pointers on Minecraft and AVM....I think is what it's called....
My buddy Rocco (who's eight) and his mom drop into the studio so that Rocco can give Jonathan some advice on parenting.
Welcome to Chew, Brew or Stew with Mike Kurtin. This is an informative podcast that gets inside the minds of business owners in the food industry. In this episode, I sit down with Rocco Sacramone from Trattoria L'incontro in Astoria, NY. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SoundCloud and Youtube so you never miss an episode.
Alicia Quinn—who you likely know by her self-described alter ego, Alicia Sacramone—was the team captain for Team USA’s gymnastics team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where she helped the team earn a silver medal. These days, in addition to coaching gymnastics here and there, broadcasting for the SEC Network, and keeping fit with the help of her side project “The Gympire,” Alicia is also mom to Sloan, who’s 2.5 and Teagan, who’s 8 months. Here, we talk about how Alicia decided it was time to move on from gymnastics and onto quote unquote real life, how pregnancy positively affected Alicia’s body image and self-esteem, how to be gentle on yourself as you try to stay fit as a mother, and some of the things Alicia wish she knew before she was thrown into the thick of things. Transcript: https://www.alsomom.com/aliciasacramonequinn Episode Highlights: 4:30 - The story of Alicia's comeback to elite gymnastics in 2010 10:35 - Alicia thinks she "could've worked harder" before the 2008 Olympic Games (and I tell her that sounds like motherhood talking) 11:55 - How her training as an elite gymnast has helped her in these early years of motherhood 14:50 - Body image! Pregnancy, postpartum, and the gymnastics body image warp for baby #1 and baby #2 18:57 - A tiny snippet of Alicia's birth story with Sloan 20:53 - Alicia's experience with surgery as an elite gymnast and how it prepared her for the challenges of recovering from a cesarean birth 24:15 - How she makes time for workouts, or more accurately, how she's changed her definition of what counts as a workout these days 30:20 - Alicia's top four product recommendations for new moms 32:04 - A shared mutual hatred for laundry (you too?) Links Mentioned: The Gympire - Alicia and former teammate Samantha Peszek's Instagram account full of fun ways to stay fit BabyBjorn Carrier - The carrier Alicia wore Sloan in for treadmill walks. UPPAbaby Vista Stroller - It's a worthy workout just pushing a kid or two in this thing. Ollie Swaddle - One of Alicia's favorites (ours too!) for great sleep. DockaTot - Another favorite for sleep. Doona Car Seat / Stroller - Alicia's obsessed. YogaGlo (Glo) - Megan's go-to for at-home yoga. (Want me to send you a free class? Email me at megan@alsomom.com!) Audible - Megan's go-to for audiobooks while folding endless laundry. Sign up for the free 30 day membership and receive two free audiobooks! Recent favorites include Becoming by Michelle Obama, Educated by Tara Westover, and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. Blinkist - Alicia's go-to for SparkNotes-style summaries of non-fiction books she definitely doesn't have time to read. @asaq3 - Where you can follow Alicia (and also find cute pictures of Sloan and Teagan)
Head with Wings is the sort of band you might want to set aside time to concentrate on, as with their debut full-length album From Worry to Shame, they tackle heavy topics like tragic and senseless death, coping with loss, and forgiveness. Guitarists Joshua Corum and Brandon Cousino enlisted their friends from Earthside Frank Sacramone and Jamie van Dyck for production duties, and the result is a riveting work that's timely and poignant. Corum talks with host Mark Ashby about the emotions he mined to create this work and what sorts of people he senses gravitate toward it. Next, correspondent Andrew Bennett gives his report as an American making his first trip to the Night of the Prog Festival in St. Goarshausen, Germany, telling us his highlights from the shows, what to expect if you're a first-timer, who he met, and what he'll do differently if he's able to return. And our Triple Track Special has three songs all with the theme of "sky." Head with Wings' Facebook page is www.facebook.com/HeadWithWingsband/ Featured songs/excerpts: Head with Wings: "In Dark Motel Rooms," "Misanthropy," "Somewhere, Something Gives," "Goodbye Sky," "From Worry to Shame" Riverside: "Towards the Blue Horizon" Big Big Train: "Big Empty Skies" Threshold: "Snowblind" Tangerine Dream: "Tear Down the Grey Skies" To hear the Progtopia archival episode featuring Earthside, go to http://progtopia.libsyn.com/episode-097-entering-the-light-with-earthside "Like" Progtopia on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Progtopia and www.facebook.com/groups/1380357308874546/) and follow Progtopia on Twitter (@Progtopia) to send a message about the show and to receive news about current and upcoming interviews. An update on Melanie Sinclair (front) the NCAA star, who's kicking ass as an Amazon in Cirque du Soliel's Amaluna. First! We present our scientific review of Amaluna. Then our guest, is the vivacious and effervescent, Melanie Sinclair. Before becoming an acrobat in Cirque du Soliel's goddess powered Amaluna, she was a US National Team member during the Nastia, Sacramone, Memmel years. Always a fan favorite for her sideline antics (see gif and videos below) and emotional filled routines, she finally gained the attention she deserved at University of Florida. She was a leader on the team, putting Florida on the map. She was fun to watch no matter what she was doing - competing or dancing with herself during warmups. She exemplifies all of the reasons gymnastics fans adore NCAA gymnastics. We discuss: The old school uneven bars act she performs in Amaluna Growing up at Orlando Metro under the tutelage of Jeff Wood and Christi Barineau The true friendship of her teammate, Amanda Castillo. How she became so consistent in college when it was so illusive in elite. The power of fun and being oneself in gymnastics. How she recovered when she gymnastics career was cut short and what advice she'd give to gymnasts in similar situations. How Cirque helps her treat her body like a temple and stay healthy even after a lifetime of gymnastics. The rhythms and cycles of a predominantly female cast. Above - Her career wasn't complete without Amanda Castillo. Everything about Cirque's AMALUNA. This show features college gymnastics' uneven-bar favorites: Amara (Amy) Defilippo (Arkansas), Melissa Fernandez (Illinois), Summar Hubbard (LSU), Linday Bruck-Ayotte (Michigan), Brittany Urbain (Iowa) and Laura-Ann Chong (Oregon).
