Kia ora,Welcome to Tuesday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.Today we lead with news the world's second largest economy may be seriously out of balance, with implications for everyone. With the US on holiday. the big global influences come from elsewhere today. First up, the private Caixin PMI for Chinese factories moved up from a minor contraction in July to a minor expansion in August. According to this survey, output growth accelerated amid an upturn in new orders and a stabilisation in employment. Meanwhile, price pressure eased and confidence hit a 3-month peak. All this was marginally better than the official factory PMI which recorded a slightly deeper contraction. The difference is that the Caixin survey is more about their private sector, the official PMUI more about their SOEs and the enterprises that dominate Chinese manufacturing. But despite this stable factory activity, their firms have been buying raw materials at a high rate, so consequently there is a huge buildup in inventories across a wide range of sectors. If the world doesn't take the surge in exports that would be necessary to justify this build-up, then the resulting pullback will have large-scale international consequences. There are plenty of signs this imbalance may end badly for everyone involved. And China's property woes are deepening, which is driving sharper equity market retreats. Falling prices aren't being stemmed, squeezing developers further and keeping house buyers away.Taiwan's August PMI only registered a modest expansion in the island nation, about the same as for China.Japan's August PMI showed neither an expansion nor contraction.South Korea's August data pointed to sustained and stronger increases in both output and new orders for their manufacturing sector amid growing signs of client confidence.India's August PMI registered softer increases in new business and output during August, albeit with rates of expansion remaining elevated by historic standards. In Australia, their factory sector is deteriorating at a faster rate, but there are some signs things may improve later in the year. Although new orders and production continued to fall, export orders picked up and along with it, confidence in the future. But they also report that cost pressures are not easing, which will worry the RBA.Australia is quite vulnerable to the Chinese economy's strugglesSo it will be no surprise that job ad levels continue to shrink in Australia. And that company profits seem to be diving.Meanwhile on the Australian property front, building consents jumped in July, especially for multi-unit developments although to be fair that is off a very low base, so it may not be significant. And CoreLogic said August house prices rose only modesty from July to be up +7% for the year. However all this rise was from Brisbane (+15%), Adelaide (+15%) and especially Perth (+24%). Without them, there would be no rises. The UST 10yr yield is now at just on 3.93% and up +2 bps from yesterday. The key 2-10 yield curve inversion has now disappeared, replaced by a positive +1 bp.The price of gold will start today down -US$4 from yesterday at US$2499/oz.Oil prices are little-changed from yesterday again, still just under US$73.50/bbl in the US while the international Brent price is still just over US$77/bbl.The Kiwi dollar starts today down -20 bps from yesterday at 62.3 USc. Against the Aussie we are sharply lower at 91.7 AUc. Against the euro we are also lower at 56.3 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at 70.2 and down -30 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$58,472 and back up +0.8% from this time yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been modest at just on +/- 1.4%.You can find links to the articles mentioned today in our show notes. You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. And we will do this tomorrow.

Eric joins David Rintell, Head of Patient Advocacy at BridgeBio and Mandy Rohrig, Director of Patient Advocacy at BridgeBio Gene Therapyin a two-part conversation to talk about his experience of living with Transthyretin Amyloidosis (ATTR). Eric was an extremely active person who enjoyed sports, riding horses and working on his 20-acre property when he began to have issues which he now attributes to ATTR. Eric's diagnostic journey took 14 years and as the disease progressed, he experienced two carpal tunnel surgeries, and several other cardiac procedures. In fact, by the time he was diagnosed, Eric could not walk the length of his home (60 feet) without getting out of breath. Four years after his diagnosis he received a heart transplant. Despite the difficulties, Eric highlights the positives of this diagnosis and how living with ATTR and engaging with the ATTR community has taught him to be intellectually curious, empathetic, grateful for the care he has received and happy to be alive. Jonathan Fox, President and Chief Medical Officer of cardiorenal programs at BridgeBio. Jonathan explains the causes of ATTR and what happens to people living with it. ATTR amyloidosis is caused by the dissociation of a protein called transthyretin, or TTR, that changes its shape and forms into fibrous clumps. These clumps of misshapen protein are deposited into various organs and peripheral nerves, including the heart, which can cause them to function abnormally.

Greg discusses the challenges he faced as a new business owner running his chiropractic practice while also being the primary doctor. Despite managing a multi-million dollar business, Greg found himself leveraged and cash poor. He introduces his Five A framework (Aim, Accept, Accentuate, Abandon, Apply) that played a crucial role in growing, scaling, and improving his business. Viewers are encouraged to grab some paper and take notes to implement these strategies.According to Greg, settling is the most tragic outcome, and individuals are either growing or dying. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on how far one can go rather than questioning when they will reach their goal. Ryan concurs and shares his perspective on finding true peace with Jesus.Greg transformed his practice into an integrated medical practice to facilitate business growth while distancing himself from day-to-day operations. Despite facing skepticism from his circle, he followed his instincts. Once this venture was running smoothly with reduced involvement from Greg, he ventured into other projects. His advice to others is to concentrate on one thing, achieve success, and then move on to the next venture. The discussion delves into the four things one can control in life: beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and actions. Greg advocates asking challenging questions about one's beliefs to discover purpose and remain present in life. While acknowledging the discomfort, he emphasizes that reverting to the comfort zone won't lead to the desired life changes. The podcast covers Greg's life advice, philosophies, and business insights. Viewers are encouraged to tune in for a comprehensive exploration of these topics.
That was way harder than it needed to be. With no LeBron James (nursing a calf injury on the second night of a back-to-back) the Lakers nonetheless controlled about 44 of the 48 minutes against the Spurs in San Antonio, leading by eight after the first quarter, 13 at the half, and 18 at the end of the third. They led by double digits throughout most of the fourth quarter, and by 10 with two minutes to play. And then it got uncomfortable. Bad shot selection, a couple ugly turnovers, and all of a sudden the Lakers found themselves fighting off opportunities for the Spurs to steal the game. Fortunately for them, the 3-win San Antonio squad wasn't all that well equipped to take advantage, making a couple critical miscues of their own to help the Lakers stay ahead. Anthony Davis did his part, pouring in 37 points, grabbing 10 boards and forcing four steals. He was 13-23 from the floor, and 9-12 from the line. The Lakers had five other players in double figures, but stalled out defensively late, allowing 45 fourth quarter points to the Spurs, including 18 in the final three minutes. So was this a solid enough game with a horrible end, or does the ending eliminate the good that came before it? The Lakers have some time to consider what worked and what didn't against the Spurs before facing them again (and again in San Antonio) on Friday. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: No LeBron, and the Lakers looked fine... until they didn't. SEGMENT 2: Who is to blame for making that game tight? What's the No LeBron Effect? Don't forget a pair of stylish boots (high heel or cowboy style), or low heel sling backs – the hottest shoe this year! Wonderful Wide-Leg Pants: How to Wear: Holly recommends wide leg pants as a comfortable and versatile fashion trend that can be worn year round. Combine these with a fitted top or a sleek blazer for a balanced silhouette. Ideal for both casual and formal events. Accentuate your waist with a skinny belt (yes, a skinny belt) and tuck in your top if you can. For this look, a sneaker is a great option, loafer or a lug sole boot. Choose one in a festive color or with an interesting pattern. Add a belt to accentuate your waist. Great for travel!!! Layering for Warmth: In cooler weather, layer it with a leather moto, oversized chunky cardigan or a cropped blazer. Party Dresses: How to Wear: If you are invited to a corporate party or to someone's home for a dinner party or open house, just assume it's dressy. Find dresses you already own in our closet (even sleeveless or strapless in the winter) and dress them up by adding tops and shirts UNDERNEATH, or by adding layers on top. Accessorize: Taking time to add statement pieces like a bold pattern jacket, a knit wrap or pattern scarf, chunky jewelry, or colored bag can go a long way to formalizing any dress your already own. If you must go shopping, then this is the best time of the year to get a great deal. Holiday Readiness and Organization: Be Prepared for All Occasions: Holly advises having a go-to outfit ready for different types of holiday events, from casual family gatherings to more formal parties. Keep your closet organized and cohesive to avoid feeling like you have ‘nothing to wear.' I just refreshed my entire website and made five important changes. Here they are! One, make it personal. Have the copy come from you, not the third person. Two, lean in to what makes you, well, you. Your differences are a positive. Accentuate that. Three, you should have only one major CTA. The most important is that they start to receive regular communication from you. You can sell them things once they come to know, like and trust you. Four, you don't have to put everything in your copy. Where you can, write secondary articles and just link to those. And finally, the welcome sequence is a must, for no other reason that if the subscriber confirms and then replies to an email, your deliverability should skyrocket. Today we are talking about a topic that we all need to pay attention to. Many of us don't like this part of our business. Our guest, Holly Mabery, is going to break it down to a simple plan for us to follow. What's the topic? Marketing! Holly brings this huge concept to a manageable part of your business. She is also one of the subject matter experts for NAR's Marketing Strategy and Lead Generation course. Let's join Holly for some great information on marketing and a few laughs about this potentially overwhelming topic! [3:38] The most successful agents are the ones who show up with value and substance to their clients. That's the key to building your business. [4:00] Before selling a house, you have to figure out how to market yourself to get listings, how to market the listings, and then how to re-sell the house each time the buyer goes back to it. Clients will come to you because of how you show up and the consistency with which you show up. [9:17] Holly coaches new agents to know the purchase contract better than anybody in the market. [12:33] Holly discusses three things to help with marketing. [22:02] If you spend a dollar, you should back that up in free ROI tenfold. If you can't do that, don't spend that dollar. [24:08] Every time you earn a designation, like the Accredited Buyer Representative, put that certificate on LinkedIn and promote yourself. Every time you do an educational video put it on LinkedIn. [24:55] Your phone is your second biggest tool, after your resume. Start using your phone! [26:54] Do a quarterly e-newsletter with a calendar. Spotlight a specific business. Include one real estate stat. [29:35] Google will let you send out 500 emails daily. Use MLS drip campaigns for targeted marketing. Look for opportunities to help people. [35:01] Don't be overwhelmed by the number of platforms. Pick one to start and focus on using it for 30 days. [36:36] If you can explain to your buyer or seller the ways they can get out of a contract, that builds trust. [37:57] Ask for reviews. Ask people who loved you to talk about it. Rate My Agent is a great tool to use. [43:47] Your value proposition is to earn the trust of your client and take care of their needs. Identify what job your client is hiring you to do while you treat everybody equally. [53:07] Find your specialty; residential resale or new homes? Find that nuance. Where are you already showing up online? Accentuate that. [55:35] Always be yourself! Be yourself authentically because people want to work with you. They want to refer you. If you're anything but yourself, that will take more time, energy, and effort and burn you out faster. So always be yourself and show up in that way. Tweetables: “When you start to think of marketing, it's huge, it's nuanced, and it's layered. My best advice to everybody out there right now is to take a deep breath; inhale and exhale. It's going to be fine. You can do it. Find your niche and be authentically yourself.” — Holly Mabery “Show up. One thing at a time. Learn your contract first. Period.” — Holly Mabery “You are the glue that puts the pieces together. [Your client] has all the pieces. You are the glue that pulls it together and helps them understand how it works.” — Holly Mabery Guest Links: Holly Mabery, VP of Operations at eXp Realty eXprealty.comHolly Mabery on LinkedIn Rate My Agent Related Episodes: “Lead Generation Through Relationships with Sean Carpenter” “The Champlain Towers Collapse: What REALTORS® Can Learn” “What Are You Selling? Incredibly powerful wisdom for all of us to be more "GOLD". A Genuine, Original, Loving, Dreamer on route to your big goals. She capped the episode off showcasing some of her ability to create poetry by sharing a flow with us on the spot!Doc Peace also shared the steps to success in building a creator business. And how she went from being a doctor and fulfilling her family's dreams about her career to becoming an award winning poet and entrepreneur. One of the most incredible moments was when Doc shared her prescriptions for living a mentally healthy life. She shared a practice of adding a small object to a jar, like a jelly bean, or pebble to the jar every time that you show up in a time that it took courage. The ability to see the physical objects grow in our courage piggy bank will continue to increase our confidence and build momentum. Doc Peace shared her belief in spirituality and how the universe works through us. We need to trust our inner voice when it guides us toward a direction based on the passions that fuel us.Create Your Own StoryDoc shared key strategies for succeeding in your side hustle even though you may be really busy with work that pays the bills. She reminds us that we tell ourselves a story about our life. We create a character that will do things that we don't even want to do. Breaking free from this narrative and becoming the hero in our own movie was key for her. She used this approach to pivot from a corporate medical career as a doctor and to poetry and entrepreneurship. Doc shares how it all started when a voice came to her and said “You don't just need to wear gold, you need to be gold”. That was the moment she created her acronym for "GOLD". A Genuine, Original, Loving, Dreamer. And she started to use this concept of gold in all of her creations from art to business.Doc is a genius when it comes to understanding what it means to build a clear personal brand around a story. She noted how we can be both person and business oriented. In her case Doc Peace, in my case Justin Nolan. But this goes hand in hand with a broad brand as well. In her case “gold” and in my case “Just Keep Learning.”The Three Stages Of Success For CreatorsDoc shared three overarching stages we go through as content creators. At first, we have a feeling that we can't make money in the world of art. We reinforce the belief in the starving artist. All we can do in phase one is explore. We create, but most of our work is hidden. We need some other way to pay the bills. And we pretty much have to beg for collaborations, partnerships, someone to “put us on”.In the second phase we probably still hold down a traditional job, but we start to get paid for the creative work we do. People actually book us and provide compensation for what we make.In this second phase, even though we may be far from “making it” we can see some light and possibility. Finally in the third phase we know how to craft offers and build revenue that is sustainable on the back of what we create. In the episode, Doc Peace shared her own progression through these phases. She went from wanting to learn more about poetry, to a commitment to create in public daily. And how that transformed her entire world as a creative. 11 Things That Help Build Your Creator Business1. Study the greats2. Get the craft down. Accentuate your strengths, and improve your weaknesses. Write and perform as much as you can for the first year3. Focus on networking and collaboration4. Do outreach in order to start creating your own opportunities5. Figure out who you serve, because you can't serve everyone as a target audience. Everyone can join later, but in the early stages you have to dial in who you create for and speak directly to them6. If you're shy, it may help to take on an alter ego, digital guise, persona to create within7. What makes you a genuine, original, loving, dreamer? Create for your higher self and step into that role. 8. Build an offer that connects your creativity to a money making offer for other businesses9. Speak in clear terms when building your brand partnerships so that you are not confusing, vague, or cryptic. People should know what you do, and for who?10. The more you create, get feedback, partner with people and continue to publish, the more momentum will build, keep going!11. Create simple, memorable stories that communicate your values and interests when you are creating any content that you want to spread. Memorable Quotes“Opportunities don't always come to you. But you can make them happen.”“There were so many times that I was starstruck and had to snap myself out of it. But it helps when we realize that we are all people, and they had a start similar to me too where they were just figuring everything out. And they are gold, but so am I.”“Once you can really own who you are, then you will have the confidence to connect with other people too.” “Confidence comes through actually making enough attempts that you've figured something out for yourself.”“What are the characteristics of the higher version of you? Write them down. Now show up as that.”Guest BioDoc Peace is indeed a doctor by trade. And she is also an award-winning spoken word poet, business leader and podcast host featured in Forbes. As an advocate for empowerment through education, Doc Peace supports businesses in leveraging technologies. Through her offers, she helps them leverage things like NFTs & AI to elevate their brand through strategic storytelling and innovative voiceovers. Give Your Affirmations a Makeover to Turn Them into Transformative StatementsAffirmations can have a profound effect on your mindset and really help you to focus on achieving your dreams. But did you know that there are ways to make your affirmations even more powerful and transformative? Here are some expert tips to help you take your affirmations to the next level.Accentuate the positiveIt's easy to focus on what you don't want (e.g., “I don't want to be alone,” “I don't want to be fat”). Even saying you want to be debt-free is focusing your attention on the debt, not on having more money. Including aspects of what you don't want in affirmations keeps your energy and confidence levels low. Boost your positive energy with positive words.Include positive “I am” statements that focus on your strengths, talents, and potential. Start each affirmation with “I am” or “I can” to reinforce your own capacity to reach your goals. Here are some examples of positive affirmations:· I am passionate about my work.· I can be financially free.· I can stop smoking.· I am smart and strategic in my business.· I can achieve whatever I set out to do.Include one little wordYou can lift the energy and intensity of your affirmations by making sure you include one simple word – easily.· I am easily earning all the money I need.· I can easily stop smoking.· I am easily running ten miles.· I am easily losing weight.Including the word easily in your affirmations not only makes them more powerful, but you're telling your subconscious mind that they are achievable, in a calm, matter of fact way.Make affirmations part of your routine.Setting up an affirmations habit sends a signal to your subconscious mind that they are essential. Set aside regular times to say your affirmations out loud to yourself, preferably in front of a mirror to reinforce your commitment to yourself.Repeat your affirmations three to five times a day at scheduled times, so you don't forget. Make them a priority habit! The more you practice, the more your subconscious mind will take them on board, and your self-doubt will start to recede.Back up your affirmations with actionsEven the most positive affirmation will have little effect if you don't do anything! Make sure your actions align with your affirmations. Think of what you can do every day to live according to your affirmations. Every success, small or large, will reinforce the power of your stated commitments and take you another step closer to achieving your dreams.
The FINAL chapter in the IT series where I encourage and lead you to Accept, Accentuate, and Appreciate your brilliance as a soul and human integration right here on this planet! The Technopath Way: Productivity through tech for nonprofits
Never miss an episode or recap again! Sign up for our weekly newsletter, The Technopath Way Tips, here: https://www.technopath.ac-page.com/the-technopath-way-sign-upThis week on The Technopath Way we're tackling a topic that's been on our minds a lot lately: Imposter Syndrome. What is it, where does it come from and how can we overcome it? Many people suffer from a lack of confidence around their careers or jobs, and a big part of why Sarah formed Technopath was to support and mentor people in their nonprofit Salesforce careers. So this week's topic is one that she encounters often from Accidental Admins who aren't sure they're actually qualified to be using their organization's Salesforce org, to seasoned Salesforce Consultants who are stumbling when it comes to their nonprofit clients. Here are some things an expert at the Imposter Syndrome Institute said we can do to cure imposter syndrome in ourselves:1. Break the silence. Shame keeps a lot of people from “fessing up” about their fraudulent feelings. Knowing there's a name for these feelings and that you are not alone can be tremendously freeing.I've also been thinking about whether or not being able to label this feeling imposter syndrome is useful or a detriment...not sure.2. Separate feelings from fact. There are times you'll feel stupid. It happens to everyone from time to time. Realize that just because you may feel stupid, doesn't mean you are. This is especially true for you out there that are trying to grasp a new technical or even business concept. You can figure it out, it may take more time. 3. Recognize when you should feel fraudulent. A sense of belonging fosters confidence. If you're the only or one of a few people in a meeting, classroom, field, or workplace who look or sound like you or are much older or younger, then it's only natural you'd sometimes feel like you don't totally fit in. Plus if you're the first to achieve something in your world (first VP, astronaut, judge, supervisor, firefighter, honoree) there's that added pressure to represent your entire group. Instead of taking your self-doubt as a sign of your ineptness, recognize that it might be a normal response to being on the receiving end of social stereotypes about competence and intelligence.5. Accentuate the positive. The good news is being a perfectionist means you care deeply about the quality of your work. The key is to continue to strive for excellence when it matters most, but forgive yourself when the inevitable mistake happens.6. Develop a healthy response to failure and mistake making. Henry Ford once said, “Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” Instead of beating yourself up for falling short, do what players on the losing sports team do and glean the learning value from the loss and move on reminding yourself, “I'll get 'em next time.”Right the rules. If you've been operating under misguided rules like, “I should always know the answer,” or “Never ask for help” start asserting your rights. Recognize that you have just as much right as the next person to be wrong, have an off-day, or ask for assistance.7. Develop a new script. Become consciously aware of the conversation going on in your head when you're in a situation that triggers your Impostor feelings. This is your internal script. Then instead of thinking, “Wait till they find out I have no idea what I'm doing,” tell yourself “Everyone who starts something new feels off-base in the beginning. I may not know all the answers but I'm smart enough to find them out.”8. Visualize success. Do what professional athletes do. Spend time beforehand picturing yourself making a successful presentation or calmly posing your question in class. It sure beats picturing impending disaster and will help with performance-related stress.9. Reward yourself. Break the cycle of continually seeking and then dismissing validation outside of yourself by learning to pat yourself on the back.10. Fake it ‘til you make it. Now and then we all have to fly by the seat of our pants. Instead of considering “winging it” as proof of your ineptness, learn to do what many high achievers do and view it as a skill. The point of the worn-out phrase, fake it til you make it, still stands: Don't wait until you feel confident to start putting yourself out there. Courage comes from taking risks. Change your behavior first and allow your confidence to build.P.S. Have you seen our Nonprofit Cloud Consultant Exam Study Guide? Can you weaponize a positive mental outlook? In this short episode, Jim talks about positivity and optimism and how they can be cultivated and employed by leaders. When your job is basically to foresee and plan for worst-case scenarios, this can be a factor that is easy to overlook. Optimism can go beyond simplistic hooah moto slogans! Positivity isn't magic. You can't optimism your way through a situation you aren't ready for any more than you can mindset your way through a fight. Productive positivity, however, is never allowing yourself to say “this sucks” without adding “…and this is how I'm going to fix it.” Listen in as Jim offers his thoughts on a practical positive attitude. The stars align on this episode of the Gratitude Through Hard Times podcast when two Italian empaths get together for a conversation about mentorship, leadership and personal growth that happens to coincide with the 7:47 Club's seven anniversary. Host Chris Schembra welcomes Matt Tedesco, VP & General Manager for Americas East at the iconic furniture design company MillerKnoll, for a lively give-and-take about his passion for coaching and unique approach to group engagement and retention. It all starts with embracing the journey! They reflect on the pitfalls of results-oriented management, strategies for getting out from under social constructs that do not serve and the compounding power of positivity. Matt highlights a pivotal spiritual moment that has shaped his value system and explains how vulnerability has empowered him — as a coach, an artist, a musician, a father, friend and colleague. Self-awareness is foundational to all the other elements that connect us with each other, says Matt, helping us tune into our own emotions and — as importantly — the challenges experienced by others. You'll also learn about what Matt calls his “cheat sheet to the world,” a simple but profound strategy that guarantees we're bringing our best selves, personally and professionally. Even when the world disappoints, we have it within us to learn and move on with open hearts. “Focus on gratitude, focus on the things that are positive,” says Matt. “Bringing positive energy is a matter of deciding.” This dynamic exchange is your first step! If you'd like to learn more about Chris and his 7:47 Virtual Gratitude Experience, please visitthis link. And click here to listen to previous episodes of Gratitude Through Hard Times. KEY TOPICS:Deflection and Dreams: Chris asks Matt reflect on his humility about accomplishments and the ways in which he feels pride in any endeavor that offers value-add in some way.Results-Oriented Living: The societal push is often towards outcomes, but Matt is committed to embracing the process and lessons learned along the way.Goals are finite. Then what? It's got to be the going — not the getting there — that's good.Putting It Out There: By making his music available on Spotify, which is a vulnerable thing to do, Matt is reclaiming an artistic part of himself. Self-consciousness be damned! We can't be good at everything. And that's the point! Art and other creative, spiritual or physical pursuits (even those that humble us) can be tools for continuous learning and movement towards self-actualization.Matt envisions members of his teams as ensemble musicians playing in concert; not basketball players taking unilateral command. The focus is on collaboration; not scrambling to hit every basket.Recalling a Pivotal Spiritual Moment: An angry kid lacking in confidence, Matt felt a spontaneous transformational release — and sense of equanimity in the world — following his eighth-grade confirmation in the Catholic Church. What does it mean to be of service and actually help? Matt believes the best coaching/mentoring starts with intentional, active listening. No pre-conceived notions or agenda.Above all, most people simply want to be heard — witnessed in a way that touches something deep in them and connects them to others and a sense of understanding.Nervous, sad confused: Matt's wife recently provided him safe harbor, a place to be fully seen, when he chose to get vulnerable and share personal and professional doubts.Defining the True Nature of Love: Borrowing inspiration from "Man's Search for Meaning," the Holocaust survivor Viktor E. Frankl's compelling take on what matters most in life, Matt's take is that our ultimate meaning isn't money, sex or power. It's simply love.Defining Leadership: Loving team members and those we serve requires whole-hearted commitment to listening and caring (that ideally resides in mutuality and reciprocity).Matt's Strategy for Moving Beyond Social Constructs That Do Not Serve:Cultivate awareness.Welcome uncomfortable, vulnerable feelings.Question and examine emotions as they arise.Own those moments of so-called “weakness” without judgment. How to erode performance? Deny, suppress or withdraw from vulnerable emotions.Gratitude as a Tool for Retention:No. 1: It must be authentic.Tokens like a pizza party or group “atta boy” aren't enough.Keep an eye out for the smaller acts, which often matter just as much as the big.Make the recognition specific and personal.Communicate in a way that makes people feel seen and heard. You will be most generous and present when leading from a place of love.Accentuate the Positive! Negative thoughts beget more. Don't miss the opportunity to energize everyone across the enterprise with the force for good that is gratitude!Finding the universal in the specific: By articulating exactly why we have gratitude and celebrating those who inspire it we are spreading a powerfully positive contagion. All in the Perspective: Whether kids on his son's lacrosse team or his top managers and staff, Matt focuses on Attitude and Work Ethic — the only two things we can fully control. The majority of us are capable, despite (or because of!) personal challenges or setbacks. The world will disappoint, but it's critical that we move on.Recipe for Success: For most of us, hard work and a smile are the two key ingredients.Looking for Outcome-Based Results? Here's a measure: Have you gotten a little better? You Are Not Alone: We're all on the journey together and interconnected There is tremendous power in it!QUOTABLE“He blends doing a good job in corporate American with having an artistic expression and play on the side. And it's a pretty cool balance!” (Chris)“To be a great leader, you have to do the work.” (Chris)“It is not about the result. It's about the process and really trying to enjoy and find meaning … If you only focus on the result, once you get that result, then what?” (Matt) LINKS/FURTHER RESOURCES:Matt's Spotify Albums"The Radical Leap: A Personal Lesson in Extreme Leadership," by Steve Farber."Man's Search for Meaning," by Viktor E. From online posturing to cancelled events sometimes its easy to dwell on the negative elements within our hobby - but in this episode Chris and Ben focus on the positive aspects of reenacting, following a difficult past two years for the hobby.
December 16, 1987, Pastor Hampton preached a very challenging message for the saints of God, "Accentuate the Positive". He expressed how the devil can cause you to focus on the negative aspects of life and ultimately shift your focus as a saint of God. He reads from Job 2:7-10, and explains how good and evil will happen to each person, but there is a power that the saints of God have! Through Christ, the saints can rise above all negative situations and keep a positive outlook on life!
