There's been somethin' strange in the neighborhood for longer than you might realize! I bet you didn't even know who to call, or how to call them. Hint: At least once, you call a Gorilla using a talking-self-destructible fish. On this episode, Chelsea, Kelly, and Nate put on their jumpsuits, grab their De-Materializers, and discuss 1975's The Ghost Busters--a television show that may well have changed human history forever. We also dig into the 1986 Filmation cartoon, Ghostbusters, and all its robo-ghost villain, jalopy driving, skelevision-watching glory. "FORGOTTEN LEADING LADIES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF HOLLYWOOD" - 11/18/2024 A friend of mine once said that in Hollywood the toilet flushes every seven years. Meaning after about seven years, no one remembers who you are. Whether that's true or not, there are many classic film stars who were once popular, who have faded away into obscurity. We covered men a few months go, and now we are giving the ladies their due. Join us as we talk about four fabulous actresses who deserve to be remembered — LIZABETH SCOTT, MARIE WINDSOR, ELLA RAINES, and GERALDINE FITZGERALD. This movie had the potential to address some really important things but all it did was remind us of bad computers, CGI, and 80's pop music.

In this episode the FM3 talk about another winner of the Dece or Fece Challenge from the Forever Midnight Film Series that they do the first Friday each month at the Landmark Opera Plaza Cinema in San Francisco! The winner for June was none other than 1987's "Scared Stiff". Jef, Josh and Brian were excited to dive into what looked like a hidden horror gem from the 80's, however the crew found out pretty quickly why this one has remained hidden. If you have not seen this one it is available to rent on Youtube and Prime Video if you dare. So go forth and check it out and remember Forever Midnight didn't pick it, so you can't hold them personally or financially responsible. No refunds, No apologies (well, maybe some apologies), and no going back! Get ready to be scared stiff!

LET'S TALK: Melvin watched 10 shows on Quibi before its eventual (and predictable) collapse. First things first, Melvin asks Daniel what he thinks a show is about based on its marketing. Then, Melvin describes what it actually is. Afterward, Daniel curiously wonders, "How does this show being on Quibi improve the watching experience?". Throughout all of this, Melvin & Dan explore the grand what-ifs of Quibi like interactive shows, a social media for film a la Letterboxd, and so much more. Kevin DREW A BLANK when he stood in front of the judges. He couldn't remember any of his lines that he has been intensively rehearsing for the past week. He remained frozen for two minutes straight. His eyes were wide open as if someone had hypnotized him. Before Kevin STEPPED UP to the theater, many thoughts were rushing inside of his head. His fear and worries CONTROLLED OVER his state of mind. Now, he was SCARED STIFF especially when he saw Mr. Johnson between the judges. Kevin HEARD a lot ABOUT him in the past. Mr. Johnson was one of the toughest people to please when it came to acting in theater. He was STRAIGHT TO THE POINT and didn't SUGAR COAT his criticism or his praises. At that moment, Kevin realized that the role of his dream was out of reach. But what Kevin didn't TAKE INTO ACCOUNT was that Mr. Johnson wasn't just a picky person but can also CATCH ON to which people deserve to be reconsidered or which do not. Mr. Johnson CUT Kevin SOME SLACK and gave him another chance to perform on the next audition. He could tell that Kevin was worth a second shot. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wafa-damlaj/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wafa-damlaj/support

To see us out, I'm joined by RuPaul's Drage Race UK finalist - Ella Vaday - to discuss an odd little entry into our favourite decade, SACRED STIFF (1987). We try to make sense of several moments in the movie; the lamp of appropriation, the lack of communication and the good old 80s patriarchy. Episode 9 begins with a story of a sexual encounter gone terribly WRONG! What started as a sexy tryst quickly turned to terror! Trey and Lauren will have you cackling or groaning as you recall similar encounters of your own. WARNING: this episode uses anatomical terms and describes sexual positions. Have you ever have a major stumble midway through a sexual escapade? Have you ever had difficulty initiating a lover's tryst? Then Episode 9 is for you! Without giving away the story, Trey shares just exactly what was going through his head when the disaster occurred and how Lauren was able to hold space for his fear then laugh with him to release the tension that had been built up in his body - BECAUSE of her. Lauren expounds on WHY she did what she did and all the work it took to stay present in the midst of her major failure. Then, at minute marker 31:06, she outlines Dr. Petra Zebroff's Seven Styles of Sexual Initiation and how knowing what turns ourselves and our partners on can be such a cool party trick! This episode is a prime example of our desire for this podcast to be a "how we" instead of "how to!" We are messy, flawed, and at times downright dysfunctional. This is the second time Huey attempts to organize social activism for an organization of strangers. The first was in “…Or Die Trying”. The word “pause” is used several times in the episode, referencing the previous episode “Pause”. The introduction of this episode parodies the Dateline NBC series “To Catch A Predator”, where investigator Chris Hansen confronts chat room predators looking to set up sexual liaisons with minors. Tom marches in a rally against Proposition 8, a 2008 constitutional amendment which initially banned same-sex marriage in California (it was overturned in 2013). He also references Sean Penn playing assassinated San Francisco politician Harvey Milk in the 2008 film Milk. YouTube clips of Fleece “Booty Warrior” Johnson from Lockup and the “Tossed Salad Man” are parodied throughout the episode. Both characters, especially Fleece Johnson, are satirized. Before the Booty Warrior tosses a bar of soap at Tom in the shower room, he says “Tom, come out to play” a reference to the movie The Warriors. William Horton Prison is named after American convicted felon Willie Horton. Director John Landis guest stars in the show. The Attica Prison riot is referenced to during the prison riot by one of the prisoners after he realizes that there was no plan beforehand by stating “I thought this was suppose to be some Attica type shit!” The “Scared Stiff” program parodies and satirizes the “Scared Straight” programs, portrayed in film and television.
