In this podcast episode, Brad Lunt, CEO of Goat Guns, discusses the evolution of his company, which specializes in highly detailed, 1/3 and 1/4 scale model guns that serve as realistic, non-functional replicas. These miniature guns, which are customizable and often painted to resemble historical military models, have found a niche market among gun enthusiasts, hobbyists, and collectors. Lunt explains how the company started, its challenges in finding a unique market space, and the viral success they've experienced through social media, despite struggling with consistent retail traction.

Michigan State University researchers Evangelyn Alocilja, André Bachmann, and Richard Lunt have been named Senior Members by the National Academy of Inventors. The MSU researchers being honored have found that their research often presents a challenge that provides an opportunity for invention. Alocilja's passion is to find solutions to challenging societal problems, especially for those needing the most help. She develops biological sensors that can diagnose infectious and antimicrobial resistant diseases earlier. Like Alocilja, Richard Lunt, who is a Johansen Crosby Endowed Associate Professor in the College of Engineering, also was inspired to make the world a better place. Lunt's work is focused on creating better materials that are more efficient and longer lasting for solar energy production. André Bachmann, a professor and associate chair for research in the College of Human Medicine, has found that holding a patent is often the first step in the process of having the idea commercialized and made available. Bachmann's research has been concentrated on drug development in oncology and rare diseases. Alocilja and Bachmann join Emilie Lorditch and Russ White to talk about their passions and inventions and the entrepreneurial ethos at MSU. Conversation Highlights: (2:08) – Alocilja describes her research interests and passions. (6:21) – Bachmann describes his research interests and passions. (11:04) – What originally attracted you to MSU. And is there an entrepreneurial spirit on campus that's conducive to inventing? (13:39) – What's your advice for colleagues who might have ideas or inventions to patent but don't know how to go about it? (20:15) – What are you working on now and looking forward to? The 2024 class of Senior Members will be celebrated at NAI's annual conference June 16 to 18, in Raleigh, North Carolina. There's more at academyofinventors.org. Chris Lunt is a technology executive with more than 25 years of experience building web services and data platforms. He is in his seventh year as the CTO for the NIH's All of Us Research Program. He joined the NIH from GetInsured, where he worked to improve health insurance shopping and enrollment systems. Previously Chris ran VC-backed internet startups, with one IPO.Highlights:- Chris is hopeful about Silicon Valley going back to its roots to create sociological change by uniting people and being thoughtful about what the world should look like. Over the last couple decades it has become more venal.- Chris believes in the power of investing public money to create opportunities. He says that Silicon Valley is largely the story of a public private partnership and that it's hard to do certain fundamental research in a purely market-based economy.- Chris says that the initiatives around Web3 weren't grounded in a realistic understanding of human nature and the result was not a good outcome.- Healthcare is one of the most conservative industries but a way to drag it into the future is for the government to mandate change. Health records are currently built for billing purposes rather than for improving health. It's also not all that long ago that hospitals were using paper records until the Affordable Care Act required that they digitize.- There is a moment coming soon where there is an opportunity to completely reimagine healthcare delivery. On this episode of Cylinder Radio, I speak with Calvin Lunt, a young man from the UK who formerly lived as a trans-woman and has since transitioned back to living as his birth gender. Calvin shares the story of how spirituality and self-discovery helped him come to terms with himself and finally break free from the masks he wore to escape from his own self-hatred. He shares the story of his childhood, how we slowly stepped into the world of drag and with time, started identifying as transgender. He talks about desire to keep running from himself and taking his escapism to higher and higher extremes. He then touches on his experience with transitioning and how he finally realised that he wasn't actually a trans woman , he was a gay man. Lastly, we discuss the dangers of socially rewarding LGBTQ children, whether puberty blockers are really irreversible and if pushing transgenderism is actually an ingrained form of homophobia. — LEARN MORE ABOUT CALVIN — Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/calvinlunt/ Calvin's Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/5SYWRgcEvFnO0IHw5PBLFW — CHECK OUT MY FREEBIES — Debate To Dialogue: https://www.cylinderradio.com/debatetodialogue The Social Solution: https://www.cylinderradio.com/socialsolution — TIMESTAMPS — 0:00 Intro 4:58 Calvin's childhood 10:46 Introduction to Drag 13:50 Beginning to play with gender 18:24 Beginning to transition 22:38 Medical transition 24:54 The complexity of identification 27:16 The dangers of socially rewarding LGBTQ children 34:17 Puberty Blockers 39:46 Calvin's experience with hormones 45:24 Is pushing transgenderism actually homophobic? 52:12 Outro — LISTEN TO CYLINDER RADIO — Podcast: https://cylinderradio.libsyn.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cylinder-radio/id1448662116 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3ACgZ7hMoBuuC1cmc9oLoP — SUPPORT MY WORK — My Website: https://www.cylinderradio.com/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/willreusch Instagram: https://instagram.com/willreusch
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.widerlenspod.comSasha and Stella continue the conversation with Calvin Lunt by asking him “how do you talk about gender issues in real life?” Calvin shares how far he's come in his ability to speak fearlessly about this issue, based on his own experience.
In this episode, Sasha and Stella welcome Calvin Lunt, whose life journey encompasses a remarkable exploration of identity, the challenges of addiction and recovery, and a commitment to personal growth and spiritual wellness.Growing up, Calvin was essentially a feminine gay boy, but never particularly gender dysphoric as a child. He became a dancer and later a drag queen. You'll hear him share about the impact of his experiences as a mixed-raced kid from a working class family with a very chaotic upbringing. From experiencing shame-inducing events to undergoing a pendulum swing between extreme identities, Calvin digs deep into his complex relationship with his sexuality and his body. He also discusses how his role as a social media influencer with a significant following and exposure to the camera spotlight also impacted his sense of self. Additionally, his involvement in the gay party scene led him down a path of heavy drinking and drug use, further impacting his search for identity. At the age of 25, Calvin took a surprising turn in his journey by embracing gender transition. Two years later, influenced by his pursuit of sobriety and a realization that certain aspects of his identity were founded on falsehoods, he chose to detransition. Presently, Calvin works as a wellness coach, drawing from his encounters with spiritual practitioners across different parts of the world and his personal journey of recovery and healing. His training encompasses a diverse range of experiences and perspectives. And his story illuminates the profound journey of self-discovery, transformation, and healing.Links:Find Calvin on Instagram @calvinluntBecoming A Woman to Become A Man (Calvin's Podcast)https://open.spotify.com/show/5SYWRgcEvFnO0IHw5PBLFW?si=ed7578460935453d Beauty School Cop Outs (MTV Show)https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3364728/ Pete Burns' Life in Pictureshttps://www.adelaidenow.com.au/entertainment/celebrity/pete-burns-life-in-pictures/image-gallery/36584e9eb07297799204e00637e87a11If you liked this episode, more episodes you might find interesting:Episode 3 - Feminine Boy to Gay Man: A conversation with Arty Mortyhttps://gender-a-wider-lens.captivate.fm/episode/feminine-boy-to-gay-man-a-conversation-with-arty-morty Episode 8 - TransGenerational Wisdom: a Conversation with Buck Angelhttps://gender-a-wider-lens.captivate.fm/episode/8-transgenerational-wisdom-a-conversation-with-buck-angel Episode 12 - Identity vs. Role Confusion in Adolescencehttps://gender-a-wider-lens.captivate.fm/episode/12-identity-vs-role-confusion-in-adolescence Episode 73 - Shame Narcissism and the Transition Fantasy w Joe Burgo

But with growing awareness of sexism, racism and violent offending within the police, is this for better or worse? Media Storm has uncovered evidence that racist recruitment practices were at play, with Black applicants more than 40% more likely to be rejected than White applicants. This finding is consistent with data from the College of Policing that spans forces across England and Wales, as well as averages taken across the 12 individual forces that provided Media Storm access to their records.A spokeswoman from the College of Policing responded: “Policing is currently more diverse than it has ever been before. Our data which is based on all 43 forces within England and Wales shows an increase of 15.9% of Ethnic Minority and 19.3% of Black candidates passing the assessment process since May 2020, ensuring we are now better able than ever to represent the communities we are serving. "College of Policing encourages all forces to interview candidates following success at the online assessment process. We provide guidance on the interview process to ensure all recruits are consistently and fairly assessed to the same high standards. "Whilst we are proud that policing is the most diverse it has ever been, we recognise that there is more to be done to be a fully inclusive organisation. We are working hard alongside forces to understand all aspects of the recruitment process and how to ensure it is as fair and consistent as possible.”Media Storm is off in search of police officers who will tell us what's going on behind the PR machine. They shine a light on internal problems ranging from grassroots cultures to leadership structures, and external problems like politics and (yes, you guessed it) the mainstream media.Mathilda and Helena are joined in the studio by Dr Leroy Logan MBE (@LeroyLogan999), founding member of the Black Police Association and one of the original officers to testify to institutional racism during the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, and Chantelle Lunt (@chantellelunt), Merseyside police officer-turned-BLM Leader.
