Low key young adult paranormal action thriller is mostly forgettable, the cast are at least convincing in an all too familiar and not well directed premise with an even worse soundtrack. This is the second episode in the multi-part series sponsored by Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC), a national non-profit organization mobilizing veterans to feed America and transition from military service to careers in agriculture. Our guest this week is Stephen Carpenter. Stephen a graduate of Stanford Law School and the Deputy Director and Senior Staff Attorney for Farmers' Legal Action Group (FLAG). At FLAG, Stephen focuses on disaster assistance, federal farm programs, sustainable agriculture, and of course, discrimination in agricultural lending. In this episode, Stephen and I get into his upbringing on a dairy farm western Missouri and like many kids who grew up on a dairy, his fond memories of that time are mostly in retrospect. We talk about his father's time as a Korean war veteran and how as a young adult during the farming crisis, Stephen recalls the difficulty of that part of his family's farm. It was this experience that began to lay the groundwork for what is clearly a passion of Stephen's – helping those in need. We take a deeper dive into the USDA's Discrimination Financial Assistance Program – what classifies as discrimination, who are these 3rd party groups who will make the final determination on applications, how the applications should be written, what type of evidence you should present, how awardees will be taxed, and much much more. Enjoy! Esteemed bands like Deftones and Slipknot, who have shared the stage and collaborated with them, champion the Sacramento-based crew, recognizing their prowess in delivering challenging, aggressive metallic hardcore and sonic dissonance since their inception in 1995.Described by Metal Hammer as "bleak noise and controlled chaos" and regularly featured alongside the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and Foo Fighters on year-end lists by Kerrang!, WILL HAVEN's music showcases muscular, agitated sounds with influences ranging from Neurosis to Jane's Addiction. Their latest 2023 release, "VII," is a natural culmination of their nearly thirty-year journey in the heavy metal world, embodying all the elements that have made them cult heroes. The band's foundation consists of lifelong friends, frontman Grady Avenell and guitarist Jeff Irwin, who met in fifth grade. Drummer Mitch Wheeler joined over two decades ago, while bassist Adrien Contreras joined in 2010. Together, they form an inseparable bond and a powerful creative force, anticipating each other's moves and reactions during the songwriting process.Adding to their dynamic lineup is Sean Bivins of Death Valley High, who joined as a touring musician in 2018 and became involved in the production of "VII," contributing synthesizer textures and additional guitar.WILL HAVEN's musical journey began with their 1997 debut, "El Diablo," where they fused doomy hardcore with experimental angst, earning recognition in the metalcore community alongside bands like Converge and Coalesce. Their sophomore album, "WHVN," released in 1999, achieved classic status among skaters, punks, and hardcore enthusiasts. Subsequent albums like "Carpe Diem" (2001), "The Hierophant" (2007), and "Voir Dire" (2011) showcased their evolution, solidifying their reputation as a pioneering force in the genre.Their 2018 album, "Muerte," exhibited the band's unwavering dedication to uncompromising and thought-provoking music, with guest appearances from notable artists like Mike Scheidt of Yob and Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter."VII," their latest offering, stays true to their heavy guitar-driven sound while incorporating elements from their previous works, resulting in an unapologetically metal album. The combination of down-tuned, djenty riffs with Grady Avenell's tortured screams creates a twisted yet captivating listening experience. In the ever-evolving landscape of This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

"Band of the Hand" is a B Movie-esque crime film where "Miami Vice" and "Scarface" meet but at six feet apart. 1986 is the time and punk-juveniles finally get their smarts straight and decide to fight crime for once in their lives and it turns out to be something being proud of about. Nice premise, impactful soundtrack and lukewarm cinematography, Stephen Carpenter aka Steftone of Deftones joins me as we discuss a small wild ride of the late '80s. He spreads the message of antiheroes doing good, comedy within suspenseful scenes and how you can still check out a film without having to really watch it. This week we're talking about the shifts in culture and the musical economy that have brought us to these dire straits. First up: Nuking your successful band to make money off aggrieved uncles. Tommy Vext got kicked out of Bad Wolves and now he's making more dough than ever. Next up: Onstage nü metal breakdowns from one of Jordo's favorites and Christian metal meltdown over the dreaded pussy word. Next: Joe pulls a Chris Jericho by getting mad at the Grammys despite never, ever giving a shit about nor watching the Grammys. GWAR is selling fake drugs instead of huge crack rocks, SAD! We're looking at statements from Spotify CEO Daniel Ek promoting new revenue projections for artists and comparing it with the FUCKING BRUTAL reality of artist payouts using math. Finally, we're reconsidering flat Earth with Stephen Carpenter using science. Don't forget: NEXT WEDNESDAY IS EPISODE 300 SO GET YOUR CALLS IN NOW. Our guest this week is Josh Scogin of '68, The Chariot and ex-Norma Jean. We discuss the danceable quality of '68's new record, Give One Take One, the year-long journey of making their animated, hand-drawn video for "Bad Bite," missing out on a tour opening for Faith No More because of the pandemic, the pros of being in a duo as opposed to a band with four or five members, his preference to forego set lists to keep live shows spontaneous and natural, and creating guitar solos on the spot instead of prepping them before recording. Brandon, Jozalyn, and Sylvia discuss Flaw's frontman dropping a racist epithet on stage, Spotify's new initiative to ostensibly provide payout transparency for artists, and Deftones' Stephen Carpenter doubling down on flat earth and 9/11 conspiracies. Songs: '68 “Bad Bite," “The Knife, The Knife, The Knife" and Mythic Sunship - “Going Up” Thank you to our sponsor, Metal Blade Records!

The Flat Earth Report 11/16/2020 THE FLAT EARTH REPORT 11-16-2020 What if we lived in a world without nukes or pandemics or earth killing asteroids? Welcome to flat earth, where none of the big fears are even real. the globe being fake is just the beginning. This is the Flat Earth Report for 11-16-2020. 11/16, btw, is a very 9/11y number if you flip it upside down. COVID IS FLAT. 0) A new trend is to link lockdown protesters and anti-vaxers as "flat earthers", which the public takes to mean "anti-science", which is paradoxically countered with demands to "believe the experts", as though appeals to authority and other logical fallacies should be required to prove a fact-based proposition. Recently Mayor Lightfoot of Chicago had a bad dream that the world went flat because nobody believed the science anymore: "Thank God, science is back baby," she said with her hand on her forehand. The music becomes more upbeat and Lightfoot pats a globe of the Earth, saying "And the Earth is round, not flat." Spain's Health Minister criticized anti-vaxxers and coronavirus deniers. “If someone wants to keep insisting that the Earth is flat or that humans did not get to the Moon, go ahead, but anti-scientific attitudes are intolerable because they lie,” he said. “Vaccines save lives, this has been widely proven. Vaccination is nothing new in Spain, every year 10 million people get immunized.” 1) The Deftones guitarist continues to be attacked for his non-belief in establishment science. which is what flat earthers are guilty of. not believing partisan science or unscientific claims dressed up as science. "Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter outs himself as a flat-earther" By Metal Hammer Vaccines don't work, space doesn't exist and there are no nuclear weapons – Deftones' Stephen Carpenter reveals some ‘interesting' theories Stephen Carpenter is many things: guitarist and co-founder of Deftones, unorthodox riff machine, a committed weed smoker. And, it turns out, a flat-earther. Carpenter unveiled his ‘maverick' worldview in a remarkable interview on the Tin Foil Hat With Sam Tripoli podcast (the clue's in the title). In it, the guitarist opted to fly in the face of decades, if not centuries, of scientific fact, claiming that space doesn‘t exist, there are no such things as nuclear weapons ..so here's a trigger warning to those threatened by good news..he also said vaccines don't work but he doesn't seem to believe in covid so.... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/infinite-plane-radio/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/infinite-plane-radio/support

This week our guest is TesseracT guitarist James Monteith! We discuss the current climate of the UK as they go into their second shutdown due to COVID-19, how promoting records has been a booming business during this time, the band's plans for their next record and how they feel about releasing new material without being able to tour behind it, the luxury of having no deadlines when creating music, relearning songs from his past, trying to figure out how perform live for the fans via streaming, and his personal frustration during the pandemic. Petar, Brandon, and Sylvia also tackle the revelation that Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter is a flat-earther, how we handle conversations with people that share Carpenter's beliefs, and Brandon's relationship with comics that have similar beliefs as Carpenter. Songs: TesseracT, “Of Mind - Nocturne” and “Of Energy - Singularity” Fates Warning, "Scars"
We're discussing the newish social media app Parler and all the funny names we've seen it called, a Proud Boys initiation video floating around the web, Stephen Carpenter is a flat earther anti-vaxxer, Westside Gunn leaving Shady records, and good ol' home life.

Like so many people, Stephen struggled with obesity growing up. Listen to how he decided to take charge of his life and make a change.

RDH Building Science with Steve Kemp Steve Kemp has joined RDH Building Science in their Toronto office as a Senior Energy and Sustainability Specialist. At RDH, Steve will play a senior role in the development of their low-energy building design services, building-energy research, and team development in Toronto. Prior to RDH Steve lead MMM Groups Buildings-Sustainable division, the firm's world-renowned green building, energy modeling, and building performance monitoring group. With unsurpassed experience in building energy modeling (particularly for green buildings), Steve guides design teams through the process of choosing financially-appropriate, high-return energy-efficiency strategies. During and after construction, Steve's team works with owners to install metering systems to monitor energy use and find opportunities for improvements. Steve Kemp – Becoming Sustainability Focused Steve grew up in Canada and attended Dalhousie University where he earned three degrees. A B.Sc., Physics; B. Eng., Mechanical Engineering; and a M.A.Sc., Mechanical Engineering. Early on, Steve joined Enermodal Engineering and was surrounded by design decisions that embodied the same ideals as LEED prior to LEED making its stamp in the world. This was the turning point when he became sustainability focused. The Importance of a Mentor Steve was fortunate to work at Enermodal Engineering from 1998 to 2015. He was part of a team of eight that included three individuals he considers excellent mentors and lifelong friends. First, Stephen Carpenter, LEED Fellow in Canada. Second, John Coco who was essentially their measurement guru and started their commision group. Finally, Richard Lay who served as the mechanical design engineer. All three influenced Steve in very positive ways. Proudest Achievements Steve's proudest achievement was an invitation to help design a solar community in a small town south of Alberto consisting of 52 homes. “The design goal was to provide 90% of their heat from the sun.” – Steve Kemp More recently, after transitioning to RDH, Steve is proud of the Joy Center for innovation and Partnerships at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. Steve helped win this net zero project and deliver a net zero building. “I believe the next phase of this high performance building and partnership is going to be very much enclosure focused.” – Steve Kemp Advice for Success and Recommended Reading Steve encourages everyone to reach out to the decision makers before meetings take place to let them know what you are thinking and discuss. This alleviates any surprises and tension in the meeting. “More decisions happen outside of the meeting room than you think.” – Steve Kemp Steve believes that the next big challenge we have is what we are going to do with all the existing buildings. He recommends reading How Buildings Learn: What Happens After They're Built by Stewart Brand. Episode 513: "Silence of the Slamsâ€Written by Stephen Carpenter, directed by David Straiton This episode felt like a bit of a let down after last week. Considering how much is going on for our main characters, this story didn't move those stories forward enough. This one was more your run of the mill Grimm episode. I think it would have benefited from taking more time with the police case. There was the potential for much more detail and history. By rushing it, Goyo's the decent into madness is less believable. The biggest part of the episode was a journey into the world of luchador fighters. The short version is a luchador fighter, Goyo, is tired of being paid to lose. He's prideful and certain of his star power. Benito, a mask maker, talks to him about the masks of the star fighters who's portraits hang on his walls. And, of course, there's a Wesen connection.
Episode 512: "Into the Schwarzwaldâ€Written by Stephen Carpenter, directed by Norberto Barba This was the 100th episode and it lived up to that auspicious achievement. There's so much being set up, will fans make it through to the end of the season's ride? We expect it's just going to keep getting more and more exciting. Last week the huge moment was Nick and Adalind sleeping together. That was huge. It will or should change their dynamic totally. Of course what happened this week may throw a new wrench in the relationship.
