The global surge in technology adoption has brought about numerous benefits, but it has also led to a concerning rise in illegal e-waste dumping. This is a dangerous practice that not only harms the environment but also poses health risks to communities. Christie was joined by Stefen Shroder of Reclite (Recycling through innovation) to chat about how we can combat illegal e-waste dumping.
According to Amazon, Tom Shroder is an award-winning journalist, editor, and author. His most recent book, "The Most Famous Writer Who Ever Lived: A True Story of My Family," an investigation into the life of his grandfather, Pulitzer Prize winning author MacKinlay Kantor. Book critic Susan Cheever said, "In writing a history that is also a meditation on writing, Shroder has created a book that is as useful as it is fascinating." Shroder is also the author of "Acid Test: LSD, Ecstasy, and the Power to Heal," selected as a Washington Post notable book of 2014. His earlier book, the best-selling "Old Souls," is a classic study of the intersection between mysticism and science.Shroder is also co-author, with former oil rig captain John Konrad, of "Fire on the Horizon, the Untold Story of the Gulf Oil Disaster." Sebastian Junger, author of "War" and "The Perfect Storm," says of Fire on the Horizon, "It's one of the best disaster books I've ever read.. . I tore through it like a novel, but with the queasy knowledge that the whole damn thing is true. A phenomenal feat of journalism."As editor of The Washington Post Magazine, he conceived and edited two Pulitzer Prize-winning feature stories. His most recent editing project, "Overwhemed: Work, Love, and Play When No One Has the Time," by Brigid Schulte, was a New York Times bestseller. In addition to being an author and editor of narrative journalism, Shroder is one of the foremost editors of humor in the country. He has edited humor columns by Dave Barry, Gene Weingarten and Tony Kornheiser, as well as conceived and launched the internationally syndicated comic strip, Cul de Sac, by Richard Thompson. With humorist Barry and novelists Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard, he concocted and edited "Naked Came the Manatee," a satirical serial novel.Shroder was born in New York City in 1954, the son of a novelist and a builder, and the grandson of MacKinlay Kantor, who won the Pulitzer Prize for his civil war novel "Andersonville." Shroder attended the University of Florida where he became Editor of the 22,000 circulation student daily newspaper despite the fact that he was an anthropology major (an affront for which the university's journalism faculty was slow to forgive him). After graduation in 1976, he wrote national award-winning features for the Fort Myers News Press, the Tallahassee Democrat, The Cincinnati Enquirer and the Miami Herald. At the Herald he became editor of Tropic magazine, which earned two Pulitzer Prizes during his tenure.Shroder is also known for his creation, along with Barry and Weingarten, of the Tropic Hunt, which has become the Herald Hunt in Miami and the Post Hunt in Washington, a mass-participation puzzle attended by thousands each year.

My special guest is Tom Shroder who's here to discuss his fasinating journey as he traveled the world conducting research on children that remember their past lives. Get his book Old Souls on Amazon. All across the globe, small children spontaneously speak of previous lives, beg to be taken "home", pine for mothers and husbands and mistresses from another life, and know things that there seems to be no normal way for them to know. From the moment these children can talk, they speak of people and events from the past - not vague stories of centuries ago, but details of specific, identifiable individuals who may have died just months, weeks, or even hours before the birth of the child in question. For 37 years, Dr. Ian Stevenson has traveled the world from Lebanon to suburban Virginia investigating and documenting more than 2000 of these past life memory cases. Now, his essentially unknown work is being brought to the mainstream by Tom Shroder, the first journalist to have the privilege of accompanying Dr. Stevenson in his fieldwork. Shroder follows Stevenson into the lives of children and families touched by this phenomenon, changing from skeptic to believer as he comes face-to-face with concrete evidence he cannot discount in this spellbinding and true story. A riveting firsthand account of one man's mission to investigate and document some of the most astonishing phenomena of our time—children who speak of past life memory and reincarnation. For thirty-seven years, Dr. Ian Stevenson has traveled the world from Lebanon to suburban Virginia investigating and documenting more than two thousand of these past life memory cases. In 1997 Dr. Stevenson agreed to let Tom Shroder, an editor at the Washington Post, travel with him through India, Lebanon and the United States as he investigated cases of children who seemed to remember previous lives. Shroder, with Dr. Stevenson's permission, wrote a book based on those experiences. From the Archives: This live interview was recorded on September 18, 1999 on the nationally syndicated radio program, hosted by Laura Lee . Earlier this year, Binance.US became the first U.S.-based exchange to cut bitcoin trading fees to zero. Since the announcement, Binance.US has consistently ranked in the top three of North America-based exchanges by volume, according to data from The Block. In this episode of The Scoop, Binance.US CEO Brian Shroder examines how Binance.US is attempting to distinguish itself from the competition, including the impact cutting bitcoin trading fees had on bringing in new business. According to Shroder, the decision to cut bitcoin trading fees revolved around wanting to make the bitcoin purchasing experience as consumer friendly as possible: “Our goal was to be able to say very concretely that if you buy bitcoin on any other exchange, you are paying substantially more — without question.” In addition to appealing to retail investors, cutting bitcoin trading fees also brought in a record amount of new institutional business. As Shroder explains, “Being able to go to institutions and almost literally have a pitch which is: ‘You have a fiduciary responsibility to your investor-base to use Binance.US because it is free … ' After the announcement, we had our best month ever in terms of institutional signups.” Episode 106 of Season 4 of The Scoop was recorded live with The Block's Frank Chaparro and Binance.US President & CEO Brian Shroder. The Celtics were without 4 key rotation players in Tatum, Smart, Shroder and Richardson but the Timberwolves were without 6 of their 7 top scorers and all of their starters. This was basically a full G League team in the Timberwolves and should have been an easy win. The Celtics did what they have done best and that is play down to their competition all year long. We saw another really solid game from Pritchard who contributed 24pts 8reb and 6ast and we also got to see two recent Covid victims in Grant and Horford return to the lineup. Horford and Grant both played significant roles tonight and took full advantage of that. The Celtics actually played solid basketball through 3 quarters leading 79-74 after the third quarter but got outscored by 10 points in the 4th. People want to give Smart a lot of crap but the Celtics desperately needed stops late in this game and Smart was not there to give them that and it showed. This is one of the worst losses of the season in my eyes and now we fall to 16-18 on the season. This podcast is brought to you by our friends at Venture Greens Nutrition. Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko and Mike Minkoff discuss why the Celtics might have been better off waiting to give Robert Williams his contract extension that now kicks in after this season. Adam gives his top 4 reasons why he thinks it was a poor choice by Brad Stevens. Along the way they bring you up to date on what this means for the likelihood of Bradley Beal wearing Celtics Green in the future, how little the Timelord has actually been on the court, and where Williams ranks in the league at his position based on his rate of pay. We'll be honest, Adam get's pretty fired up about this, and Mike makes several key points to contest Adam's sentiment. When the Celtics Front Office gives us lemons, the Celtics Pride Guys will sometimes make angry lemonade. On the eve of Josh Richardson signing a 1 year extension with the Celtics for 12.4 million, Josh shares his feelings on the Celtics spacing issues with their new identity being tied to their three veteran guards who are good defenders, but poor shooters. Smart, Richardson and Shroder are shooting a combined 33.8% from 3 for their careers. Coach Josh explains what this could mean for Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and the Celtics pick and roll options in 2021-2022. “Will the Celtics need to finish top 5 in the league in defense to make up for their lack of guard shooting?” Remember to rate, review, and subscribe to the Celticsblog podcast feed (we're “Celtics PRIDE”) and follow us on Twitter @celticspridepod, a @celticsblog podcast. Book critic Susan Cheever said, “In writing a history that is also a meditation on writing, Shroder has created a book that is as useful as it is fascinating.” Shroder is also the author of “Acid Test: LSD, Ecstasy, and the Power to Heal,” selected as a Washington Post notable book of 2014. His earlier book, the best-selling “Old Souls,” is a classic study of the intersection between mysticism and science. Shroder is also co-author, with former oil rig captain John Konrad, of “Fire on the Horizon, the Untold Story of the Gulf Oil Disaster.” Sebastian Junger, author of “War” and “The Perfect Storm,” says of Fire on the Horizon, “It’s one of the best disaster books I’ve ever read.. . I tore through it like a novel, but with the queasy knowledge that the whole damn thing is true. A phenomenal feat of journalism.” As editor of The Washington Post Magazine, he conceived and edited two Pulitzer Prize-winning feature stories. His most recent editing project, “Overwhemed: Work, Love, and Play When No One Has the Time,” by Brigid Schulte, was a New York Times bestseller. With humorist Barry and novelists Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard, he concocted and edited “Naked Came the Manatee,” a satirical serial novel. Cathy Byrd Cathy Byrd is the author of the book “The Boy Who Knew Too Much,” which was released by Hay House on March 21, 2017. The movie rights for this remarkable story have recently been purchased by 20th Century Fox and producer DeVon Franklin who created the movies “Heaven is for Real” and “Miracles from Heaven.” Cathy is a residential real estate broker and mother of two young children who never had aspirations of becoming a writer until her two-year-old son began sharing memories of being a baseball player in the 1920s and ‘30s. What makes this story even more fascinating is that Byrd’s son Christian Haupt has been touted by the international media as being a baseball prodigy since the age of two when he was discovered on YouTube by Adam Sandler for a baseball-playing cameo role in the movie “That’s My Boy.” Shortly after his fourth birthday, Christian became the youngest person to ever throw a ceremonial first pitch at a Major League baseball game and his YouTube baseball videos have now been viewed by more than 15 million people. Christian’s case has been studied by Dr. Jim Tucker from the University of Virginia Medical School department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences. Dr. Tucker has continued the research on children’s past-life memories that was originally started by Dr. Ian Stevenson in 1967. The University of Virginia now has over 2,500 documented cases of children who remember past lives on file.

In this episode of the Dudes and Beer host Christopher Jordan is joined in studio by Steven Bishop and Julie Connally as they welcome automotive restoration master for Schroder Motors, and previous guest Antwone Barnes to the show to discuss not only his love of automobiles and everything about them, but what it actually takes to take your average “garage find” and turn it into a piece of showroom material worthy to be on the starting block of the Mecum Auto Auction. What is the difference between a show car and a hobby car? How does one get into the restoration business and what does it take to bring a car from project to auction? In the later part of the episode we turn the conversation to the recent topic in the news of the US creating a Space Warfare department. Is this a new idea or has the concept been not only been debated at high circles…but active for many years? What would it take to build such a department? How was it possible to have an unmanned craft like the X37b Space Plane in orbit secretly for 2 years? How would we keep control of what is sure to be a technological “Genie in a bottle” and maintain peace in space when we can barely maintain it in our own communities? These topics and more in this episode of the Dudes and Beer podcast.
