Part 1 The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss Summary"The Name of the Wind" is the first book in Patrick Rothfuss's fantasy trilogy, "The Kingkiller Chronicle." The story follows the journey of a young man named Kvothe, who is a gifted and multifaceted character with a tragic past. The narrative is framed as a story being told by Kvothe himself, now living a quiet life as an innkeeper named Kote. The tale begins as a mysterious chronicler finds him and persuades him to recount his life's story.Kvothe's narrative spans his early years as a member of a traveling troupe of performers, where he is exposed to music, storytelling, and magic. After the brutal murder of his parents by a group of beings known as the Chandrian, Kvothe becomes orphaned and struggles to survive on the streets of the nearby city, Tarbean. There, he learns about the harsh realities of life and the importance of cunning and adaptability.Eventually, Kvothe makes his way to the prestigious University, where he aspires to learn about magic ("sympathy"), science, and lore. His incredible intelligence and natural talent make him a strong student, but he also faces significant challenges, including rivalries with fellow students like Ambrose and the financial difficulties associated with tuition. While at the University, Kvothe becomes embroiled in various adventures, including his quest to uncover the truth about the Chandrian and to learn the elusive "name of the wind," which holds powerful magical potential. He builds relationships with key characters such as the enigmatic Denna, a young woman who captures his heart, and Master Elodin, a talented but unconventional teacher who challenges Kvothe's understanding of magic.Throughout the book, themes of storytelling, identity, and the nature of truth are explored, as Kvothe navigates a world filled with danger, secrets, and the pursuit of knowledge. The story blends elements of myth and reality, presenting Kvothe as both a hero and a legend.Ultimately, "The Name of the Wind" sets the stage for Kvothe's exploits and the mysteries that still surround his life, leaving readers eager to discover the full arc of his journey in the subsequent books.Part 2 The Name of the Wind AuthorPatrick Rothfuss is an American author, best known for his debut novel "The Name of the Wind," which was released on March 27, 2007. Jim brought on returning guest Spencer of The Fantasy Files, this time just as Jim had finished the two primary novels of The Kingkiller Chronicle. Jim and Spencer offer up their top 10 moments from these two books, along with their reasons. This WILL include MAJOR SPOILERS - definitely not safe for those who haven't read Kingkiller yet. Patrick Rothfuss is an amazing writer but where or where is this mysterious third book to the series?? It's certainly not this! Listen in on my thoughts.
All right, King Killers, we're covering chapters 10-11 in this episode. A couple fantastic chapters. We speculate on what might be happening with Denna behind the scenes, a great back and forth with Devi, and the great meeting between Auri, Kvothe, and Elodin. We also dive into more Auri theories and her book, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. You'll also get helpful tips on how to kiss from Dan, a fun new theory about the Chandrian and their sidling ways, why Tim once ate a dog bone, and what kind of hats The Great, Almighty, Powerful Grey Dalcenti wears. So sit back and enjoy. Dr. Morgana McCabe Allan works with frustrated entrepreneurs to help them fall back in love with their businesses, achieve their goals and attract the right kind of clients. Through her coaching and mentoring, coaches, therapists, practitioners, and heart-centered service providers can learn how to make their ventures successful without burning out or sacrificing their free time. Morgana helps her clients shift their perspectives and design a new reality for themselves using manifesting, mindset, and healing techniques, alongside powerful organic business strategies. This includes helping them overcome the things which are holding them back, including imposter syndrome, procrastination, and perfectionism. Morgana has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, making her first money at three and starting her own business at eight – breeding and selling pets to help support her family. But unlike many entrepreneurs, she is also naturally academic and achieved top grades throughout school, despite missing six years of formal education due to ill health. Morgana has a Ph.D. from Glasgow University and has presented her research to international audiences many times at conferences. Her Ph.D. is an interdisciplinary study that explored how women's identities and realities are shaped by thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, emotions, and interactions with things, people, places, and ideas. Morgana started her business after realizing she didn't want to stay in academia. While studying for her Ph.D., she had two sons and her husband suffered from postnatal depression. Juggling her work with family responsibilities left her feeling exhausted and burnt out and she felt called to do something different. When she found out she was expecting a baby girl, she felt inspired to change the world. She didn't want her daughter held back by a society that still prioritizes masculine ways of being and doing. The birth of Morgana's daughter was a turning point for her and she vowed to create a business that would not only support her family but give them a different view of the world. Morgana shouldn't actually be called Morgana at all. When she was born, her parents decided to call her Jennifer but on his way to the register office, her father had a sudden change of heart and named her Morgana after the powerful enchantress in Arthurian Legend. Her mother cried for two weeks and even considered leaving but spirituality has played a big part in Morgana's life so perhaps her father's gut instinct was trying to tell him something. Although married to a man, Morgana is bisexual. She also has invisible black heritage, and safe spaces for LGBTQ+ and BLM conversations are an important part of her business and life. The world of business is a hyper-masculine environment but is this actually holding us back and stopping entrepreneurs from achieving their dreams AND living the kind of life they want outside their work? Dr. Morgana McCabe Allan believes embracing femininity is crucial for success and wants to see a world where love-based entrepreneurship and collaborative development take the center- stage. Her work with female entrepreneurs and business owners centers on helping them redesign their lives for the better so they can find a purpose that will not only bring them financial success but will create positive ripples around the world.

In particular, we cover the Chandrian, Chthaeh, and Auri, but it's an episode jam packed with details and predictions about many aspects of the story, including Selito's eye, the Locelos Box, Kvothe's identities, Felurian, and much more. This week after some hesitation the boys talk about video games. Cameron gives us his take on the recent Wolfensteins, while James has been playing through the Silent Hill games. For news, there's a lot on Borderlands 3, a bit about THQ Nordic's titles in development including a new Saint's Row and Time Splitters game, James yelling about Games as a service, and Cameron still just hating that Fortnite. Our first episode to be scored entirely by harp, harpsichord, and ocarina, it's the oft-requested short side story The Slow Regard of Silent Things, a book that would describe itself as "twee as twee" and that features a character who "smiles" twice, "grins" every third paragraph, and once sweeps a staircase...up. It's a fun read, like hanging out with a friendly goth who's happy to share their cloves and lots of handy tips about getting red wine stains out of velvet cloaks. Snatch up your gathersack, because this episode is brimming with amiable whimsy that you won't want to leave behind, make sure you've got your best copy of The Crow soundtrack with you, and prepare yourself for ... a quick glance at noisemakers? No, silly! It's time for a rhyme that's quiet as a mime with a twist of lime: it's time ... for The Slow Regard of Silent Things.
