The guest on today's episode is Chelsea Cohen. She is an Amazon inventory management expert and the co-founder & CEO of SoStocked.com, an Amazon inventory management software. Chelsea's also an Amazon seller, speaker & consultant. Her regular clients include 7 & 8-figure sellers. She has been featured on AM/PM Podcast, 7-Figure Sellers Summit, Seller Events & the Prosper Show & Amazing Summit stages, among others.SoStocked is fully customizable and fully understandable so that you can trust the numbers, fine-tune your forecasts, and finally ditch your spreadsheets. In today's episode, she discusses avoiding stock-outs and forecasting inventory.Takeaways:Min-max restocking involves setting minimum and maximum inventory levels and always staying within that range. The ideal inventory turnover for Amazon sellers is typically between 30 to 60 days. Maintaining a good inventory level is important for factors like maintaining high IPI (Inventory Performance Index) scores, avoiding high storage rates, and maintaining a good sell-through rate. Geo ranking is a factor that considers inventory dispersion throughout the country. Having enough inventory is important to maintain good rankings and supply two-day prime delivery. It's advisable not to go below a 30-day minimum inventory level to account for potential issues with Amazon's inventory checking and to avoid negative effects on geo ranking. Examining the size and weight of products is essential for reducing fees. Understanding Amazon's fee structure, including dimensional weight, can help optimize packaging and reduce expenses.Packaging plays a crucial role in creating the perception of luxury and value for a product. Elaborate and unique packaging can enhance the perceived worth of a product.Quote of the Show:By adding an additional sales increase as a percentage to your projections for a group of SKUs for a PPC campaign you plan to run, coupon codes or lightning deals, you can be prepared to be in stock at all times. Rather, it allowed him to learn how to stomach the unknown and face problems with confidence. He also argues that, if you really believe in something, you have to sometimes gamble on yourself - it's all about risk, and the best entrepreneurs are risk takers. “I think as an entrepreneur, you have to have the stomach for the unknown. You need to be able to know when to gamble. That's not to say that being an entrepreneur you're gambling all the time, but you're taking the gamble on yourself. You are that pit in your stomach.”Finding the Third Leg of the StoolEvery successful SaaS product has to have the three legs of the stool: a subject expert, an operations person, and a marketing professional. Without those, you'll find yourself in a tricky situation. And this isn't exclusive to just SaaS brands, it's actually something that anyone in any business can learn from - those three legs will hold your business up and keep you balanced; the last thing you want is for it all to fall apart.“Every SaaS product that I've had success with, I've had those three legs of the stool. What brought the odds in our favor was finding that subject expert that could truly articulate the hole in the market and then had passion enough to do social media, to go to conferences etc.”How Long Can You Sustain the Development Burn?Your business will require a lot of sustainability in how much development you can burn. You need to be able to balance as much as you can without fully burning out or exhausting yourself and your expenses. Dan points out that every SaaS product he's been a part of has never stayed on budget, and that if you can plan for the hiccups, then you can move on and you'll prove yourself.“In SaaS, business, or whatever, if you can plan for the hiccup and it happens, then it doesn't faze you. It's very rare in SaaS that you're breaking even; sometimes it's a year or eighteen months of burning cash…but you're seeing results and users sticking. The metrics can tell you that it's working, it's just that you're waiting for that lag in the bank account to catch up.”Don't Do Everything YourselfDan says that most people burn themselves out when they try to take on all three legs of the stool. Trying to take on more than one intense role is almost a form of self-abuse and it will lead to blowing up in your face. You need to know your faults as well as what you're good at; fill your business with people who can close the gaps of your weaknesses and compliment them - this is the best way to make sure everyone in your organization is an asset.“SaaS is complex. Where I see a lot of people get burned out and overwhelmed is when they try to do all three legs of the stool themselves. I enjoyed having partners that I could laugh and cry with - that is the way I worked.”

With us, Chelsea Cohen, she is the CEO and co-founder of SoStocked.com. Chelsea, I know that when we were speaking the other day, what got me most excited is the way that you guys approach Amazon is from an inventory angle. It's, it's a little different than what most Amazon sellers are used to, when it comes to building an Amazon business. And now more than ever inventory and getting that entire process right, is so, so important. So I'm your host today Seth Stephens along with my co-host John Hart, post purchase pro podcasts. But now let's jump into Chelsea story. So Chelsea, tell us how you guys came to be, who Chelsea is, where you started and where you guys are now. Sure. Yeah, I started selling on Amazon 2014. And we had success, of course, as you face, success. You also faced stock outs and around 2018. Started looking at the bottom line, a concept called Death by Paper Cuts and was all those little tiny things that were eating away at the profit margin, eating away at the revenue. Inventory seemed to be the one that was something I could get my hands around and also would have a very big impact on the bottom line. So I have no experience in software, but I actually met someone who did have experienced pitch to my idea. And we went into business together and really worked with hundreds of Amazon sellers to figure out this piece that no one was really getting right back then. Yeah, that's amazing. So so Chelsea, you were an Amazon seller first, experienced a struggle, right? Experienced success. And then the kinda the consequences of that. And then you said, oh shoot. Not only is there a problem here, but you kinda figured out better than most. And then you started looking at software as kind of a solution to that. Is that kind of your, Your journey in a nutshell? Yes. yeah, pretty much. I mean, there's a lot of people along the way who also helped on that journey, and I think that's important is that I Experience certain things in my own business, but there's, I can't experience every single problem. And so it's all been a really collaborative experience with the users. That's crazy, so Seth and I, as you know from our call before, Chelsea, we had a crazy experience when it comes to inventory.
