Our 13th session is the perfect one to demonstrate how much a child can achieve in a short time revealing the flexibility built into my reading program.Decoding requires phonological awareness, putting sounds together, first without letter symbols, then with the letters. It also means phonics, and blending and segmenting words. Students should be able to hear and manipulate sounds in words, understand relationships between graphemes (written) and phonemes, and manipulate parts of words. Some three-letter words are parts of larger words. Some “nonsense” words are part of real words.
