Ben Clymer grew up in a New York suburb, raised by middle-class public school teachers and enamored by his grandfather's swagger and style. An Omega Speedmaster, a gift from said grandfather, is the piece that captured his heart and sets his story in motion. A painstakingly shy student, he began to gain self-confidence in high-school and a need to differentiate in college. In 2008 he started a tiny blog, HODINKEE, a passion-project about watches that gained traction and sent him on a mission to get a Master's in Journalism. Since then, HODINKEE has led to creative collaborations with the most prestigious watch brands and famous rockstars, and grown into a multi-channel platform that has transformed the world of luxury watches. What everyone gets wrong about using social media to grow your podcast, and what you should be doing instead. There might be no more common question in podcasting than: “How do I get more listeners”. And there might be no more common answer than, “Be active on social media.” The result is that social media is by far the most popular marketing channel used by podcasters to (at least try to) get more listeners and grow their shows. But does it actually work? And if it does, how, exactly? In this episode, we explore the potential benefits of social media for podcasters, how to use it effectively to grow your show and your brand, and why social media might actually be a more effective growth channel than it appears on the surface.⭐️ Get a free podcast marketing audit with personalized recommendations to help you grow: https://podcastmarketingacademy.com/audit ⭐️Topics Covered0:00 Intro01:02 How many podcast listeners does 40,000 X (Twitter) followers get you in 2024?05:57 Non-podcast-growth reasons to be active on social media08:06 Understand why you're using each platform17:47 Which platform should you be on to promote your podcast?26:34 The "Buyer's Journey" of Podcast Listener Acquisition27:24 Why social media is probably getting you listeners without you even knowing 35:10 The double-edge sword of building your platform reputation38:45 Non-social media growth channels47:09 Key takeaways from this episodeResourcesDarknet DiariesHow I Write PodcastJay ClouseNever Post PodcastDerek SiversComplete the Podcast Marketing Trends 2024 SurveySubscribe to Podcast Marketing Trends ExplainedCheck out the Podcast Marketing Trends 2023 ReportSubscribe to the Scrappy Podcasting NewsletterTry Transistor.fm for free for 14 days✍️ Leave your feedback for the show: http://podcastmarketingtrends.com/feedback

Kimberly Morgan was attracted to Christopher Duntsch from the moment she met him. He was charming and seemed destined for great things. But she also saw another side to him. Duntsch’s behavior led many people who came into contact with him to wonder: Was he an impaired physician? A terrible surgeon? Or a cold-blooded killer?“Death Don’t Have No Mercy” performed by Delaney Davidson and Marlon Williams, courtesy of Rough Diamond Records. Please tell us what you think about our show and help us by answering a few questions at wondery.com/surveySubscribe to Dr Death on Apple, Spotify, NPR One, Stitcher or sign up for email updates at wondery.com to stay up to date about future episodes.Support us by supporting our sponsors!Zip Recruiter - Try ZipRecruiter FOR FREE at ziprecruiter.com/death Bombas - Save 20% by visiting bombas.com/death and entering the offer death in the checkout code spaceHelix Sleep - Get up to $125 off your mattress at helixsleep.com/death. All physicians are taught, “First do no harm.” But what happens when a doctor does harm his patients?Dr. Robert Henderson was a veteran spinal surgeon in Dallas when he got an unusual phone call from a local hospital: a new surgeon had operated so poorly that a patient who’d walked in on her own two feet now couldn’t even wiggle her toes. Dr. Henderson had seen a lot, but he wasn't prepared for this. The surgery was so bad, in fact, he asked himself whether this person possibly be an impostor impersonating a physician?“Death Don’t Have No Mercy” performed by Delaney Davidson and Marlon Williams, courtesy of Rough Diamond Records. Chris Duntsch was a promising medical student, with a bright future ahead of him. The friends who knew him were shocked at the doctor he would later become. Not Chris, they said. That’s not the man I know. The Chris Duntsch they knew was driven, hard-working, smart, with a twinkle in his eye. And no one believed they knew Chris Duntsch better than his best friend, Jerry Summers.“Death Don’t Have No Mercy” performed by Delaney Davidson and Marlon Williams, courtesy of Rough Diamond Records.
