On this episode of Captivated, Stasi invites the delightful Annie F. Downs into the studio for an honest conversation about walking with Jesus and how deeply we are held by Him—every season of our lives. They explore rhythms of rest, the gift of Sabbath, and the invitation to trust God's timing even when it's difficult to see the full picture. From winter's waiting to summer's work, they share about the beauty of every season and the joy of partnering with Christ. If you're feeling stuck, longing for rest, or simply needing encouragement, join us as we lean into God's goodness together.…..SHOW NOTES:…..VERSES: Romans 14:8 (NIV) – If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. I hope that you are enjoying this amazing weather we've been having.I feel like it's kind of a tease because we're still in the early days of August. But nonetheless, my heart is now on football and hot chocolate and all things fall related. I don't know if you guys love football, but we do. I love a good weekend game. It got me thinking about watching games where one of the teams is absolutely dominating. Have you ever seen one of those? You probably have! Where the other team is just holding the line, like they're not even thinking about scoring a point because they're so worried about not letting them score anymore on them. Like it's bad, kind of a bloodbath. But how often is that situation like us as Christians? Like how often do we feel like we are being dominated by the enemy? The enemy is coming after your kids. The enemy coming after your marriage, your business, your relationships, your peace. Man, I know I have been there. Then I was reading in the Word this week and something jumped out at me... Whoa. Okay, that little piece in the middle there got me.It says, as you confront the slanderer. So in other words, God didn't just give us the armor of God to keep us from being beaten down. He gave it to us to confront the enemy, to come at Him, to come for Him. Because we are living in the days of warfare, spiritual warfare. It's all around us. And I feel like so often we are so worn down by it that we just feel like we're doing our best to pray about it and to just survive. It like you're putting on your armor and you're surviving the beat down, but that is not what God wants for us. And in fact, that is not what God calls us to. Guys, the enemy has strategies against you. Plans on plans on plans, coming for you and your kids and your business and your mental health and your peace. The enemy wants to kill and steal and destroy everything good that God wants and promises for you. It is our job and well within our rights as children of God to take hold of our authority and say no and push back and decree and declare. There's another line that I've heard somewhere along the way, and it goes a little something like, you will never win a battle you don't fight. I mean, it makes sense. And did you know even that when God called the children of Israel out of Egypt and they wandered in the desert for 40 years in the wilderness? Did you know that he called them to their inheritance? That he had promises for them. But he didn't promise that those things would come easy. In fact, they had little faith and an entire generation died off because they lived in fear. And they did not reach out and take hold of the promises. They did not reach out and take hold of their inheritance. That was promised to them. And when they did, it was a new generation. It was the generation behind them. And they finally crossed over the Jordan. And what did they do? They fought. They fought. And God promised that the land would be theirs. It was theirs for the taking. But how do you take something if you don't fight for it? What a good message in that. So today, I just wanted to leave you with this encouragement. If you are feeling pummeled and you feel like just putting on the armor of God and just praying isn't enough, maybe it's not. Maybe you needed this reminder today to encourage you to declare over your home, declare over your children, decree the promises of God. Speak it over them. Speak it over your kids lives, over your marriage, consecrate your home to God. Consecrate your words and your actions and your life and your ministry. Consecrate it all to him. He will cover and keep and protect you. And as you do so, and you hold on to those promises and you speak those promises over your kids. That is how you come into agreement with God and what his word says. If you've been listening to the podcast for a while now, you'll know that your hosts from the Vaden Villa are hard-core, Bible-thumping, Jesus freaks, and one of the questions we've been wanting to answer is how you build a bestselling brand in the Christian market. Our guest today is a New York Times bestselling author and speaker that speaks all over the country doing sermons and Christian conferences, along with some business gigs every year. She is a teaching pastor at our church and also the host of an amazing podcast called That Sounds Fun. Annie also founded and co-owns a podcast network called the That Sounds Fun Network. In our conversation with Annie today we hear from her about the journey of her company, Downs Books Inc., and how she worked her way up from the beginning of her career by recognizing the doors that were opened for her and the opportunities that arose. She describes her transition from speaking to young teen girls to speaking to women and provides insight into how she utilized events that she was paid to do, in order to create opportunities that would allow her to do what she wanted to do. We then dive into how you can build your business in a Christian market before she breaks down the different types of things you can do as paid events and how to make money from your podcasts. For all this, and much more, don't miss out on today's episode. Tune in now!
We have two really wonderful guests this week, David Thomas (L.M.S.W.) and Sissy Goff (M. ED., LPC-MHSP), hosts of the podcast "Raising Boys & Girls" (also part of That Sounds Fun Network). Sissy and David work with families through Daystar Counseling Ministries in Nashville, Tennessee and have decades of experience walking boys and girls through all of life's ups and downs. We wanted to talk with them about the state of the American family and the challenges facing parents in 2023. We also wanted to ask them how politics is affecting parents and kids, plus how and when to talk to your kids about all kinds of difficult and scary current events. We hope you leave this conversation renewed and hopeful. Sissy and David are founts of wisdom and clarity! In a new devotional ‘Chase The Fun' @anniefdowns created 100 days to discover fun right where you are! I'm absolutely convinced that the world needs more fun and laughter, and Annie brings both wherever she goes! In this conversation, we talk about business, marketing, podcasting, friendships, failures, and even how to chase the fun in life! You definitely don't want to miss how we bonded over the importance of having a solid mission statement to keep us focused. Plus, Annie candidly shares how her understanding that God has called her to build something that will bring light keeps her motivated and pushing forward in all seasons. Annie F. Listen in to learn more about: How “knowing your lane” in your business or ministry is the absolute BEST way to manage imposter syndrome and comparison. Debunking the myth that just because someone has a bit of success, everything magically turned golden for them. 100% not true, by the way! How Annie views failures. Here's a hint, she believes everything is an experiment and an opportunity to ask, “So, what's next?!” Favorite quotes: ~It's a little easier to cheer for everyone who's in their lane when we are sure of our lane. I need to see my mission statement everyday so I know MY lane and don't compare myself to other people and I don't live and die by the applause of the internet. ~The reality is that nothing is a total flop or a failure. Everything is an experiment that you pivot as you build, so sometimes, you stop building the building if you don't want to put energy into it anymore; or if the return on the investment is not matching the investment. ~If you don't know why you are doing what you are doing when you get put in a fire, you will jump out. ~What keeps me doing this is that I really think God put me on the planet to do the thing I'm doing right now. ~What keeps me motivated is that I believe God's really called us to bring light to the dark places. ~My biggest piece of advice is to start paying people to help you before you have the money to pay them; if it means giving away a little piece of equity or paying them hourly. ~We pray for wisdom and the mind of Christ everyday, that's how you are going to make decisions you do not know how to make. Welcome to Unexpected with Hannah Love, a brand new podcast show on the That Sounds Fun Network! Have you ever spent much time thinking about the events that led you to where you are? Have you ever noticed, too, that some of the most unexpected moments are very ones that God used in the biggest ways? I have. Not only did I notice this theme in my own life but I also saw it all over the Bible. From Moses and Gideon, to David and Esther and Nehemiah, God seems to call the most unqualified people to do the most unexpected things. When God put this podcast on my heart, He gave me the name and I knew this was a universal theme that He has used from the beginning of time. My hope is that as you listen to stories - both biblical and present day - and to the lives of some incredible guests along the way, we all gain a new perspective of how God loves us enough to call us to the things we couldn't have imagined for ourselves . This is Unexpected. Hannah Love Mooney formerly held the title of Miss Arkansas USA in 2013. She has years of experience as a freelance writer for online publications and has been featured in national magazines, music videos, and podcasts. Hannah is a seasoned painter and writer. She is now married to Shay Mooney of country duo Dan + Shay. The couple have two sweet boys. ... Thank you to our sponsor! Anchor: Download the free Anchor app or go to Anchor.fm to get started.

To know AFD is to love her and I can't wait for you to hear the church service she has in store for us today! Annie F. Downs is a New York Times bestselling author, sought-after speaker, and successful podcast host based in Nashville, Tennessee. Engaging and honest, she makes readers and listeners alike feel as if they've been longtime friends. Founder of the That Sounds Fun Network—which includes her aptly named flagship show, That Sounds Fun—and author of multiple bestselling books like 100 Days to Brave and Remember God, Annie shoots straight and doesn't shy away from the tough topics. But she always finds her way back to the truth that God is good and that life is a gift. Annie is a huge fan of laughing with friends, confetti, soccer, and boiled peanuts (preferably from a backroads Georgia gas station). Read more at anniefdowns.com and find her (embarrassingly easily) all over the internet at @anniefdowns.
