Die Serie Maul: Shadow Lord ist gerade frisch gestartet und das nehmen wir als Anlass, um über den Comicband Darth Maul: Schwarz, Weiß und Rot zu sprechen. Das Konzept ist simpel: drei Farben und sonst nichts. Alles im Comic ist entweder in Schwarz, Weiß oder eben in Schattierungen von Rot koloriert. Dazu gibt es das übliche Potpourri von Darth-Maul-Action: Schnetzeln, Vierteilen und Aufspießen inklusive. Alles unter dem Dach eher horrorartiger Geschichten. Dass dieser Horror-Faktor über die vier Geschichten abnimmt und eher dem schwarzen Humor weicht, ist nur eines der Themen, das Lukas, Matthias und Tobias in dieser Folge besprechen. Es geht zudem um Sidious' Fetisch für Bodycams, Sympathie mit Maul bei Ruhestörungen und die Bewunderung, welche künstlerische Vielfalt in solch einem Heft zu finden ist. Darin lobte er am Ende die Reihe und resümierte: "Die Entscheidung, pro Heft eine ganze Geschichte zu erzählen, ging gnadenlos gut auf, und die Kreativteams haben zumeist das Maximum aus den Vorgaben herausgeholt. Die Abwechslung gelingt durch verschiedene Themenschwerpunkte und natürlich die variierenden Zeichnungen." Tobias hat die deutsche Hardcover-Deluxe-Edition von Panini rezensiert und schließt sich größtenteils an. Sein Lob gilt neben der wertigen Aufmachung und der guten Qualität der deutschsprachigen Ausgabe ebenfalls der Abwechslung und dem künstlerischen Anspruch des Hefts: "Vielleicht hätte es etwas mehr inhaltliche Varianz – und nicht nur Maul-Geschnetzeltes – gebraucht, um wirklich herausragend zu werden, aber das ist Meckern auf hohem Niveau. Alle Fans, die mit der anstehenden Maul-Serie wieder mehr über diese Figur lesen wollen oder einfach so ein langjähriger Fan sind, machen mit diesem Band im Regal nichts falsch."
