You may have seen the very funny Anjelah Johnson-Reyes in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ugly Betty, Superstore, or even on the sidelines as an Oakland Raiders cheerleader. Perhaps you've seen her comedy specials, including the brand new Ugly Baby, which is about her experiences becoming a mom and, fear not, she is the titular ugly baby here. Or maybe, just maybe, you've seen Anjelah in her garden, carefully tending to her plants and vegetables, including tomatoes that she loves so much that she just calls them ‘matoes. All that gardening was at her old house but she remembers it as a wonderful and productive time and she still wonders what those ‘matoes are up to these days. We think she should add them on Instagram, very casual-like. Watch Anjelah Johnson-Reyes's new comedy special, Ugly Baby, on YouTube. Today we're hanging out with the legendary Anjelah Johnson-Reyes. You've seen her viral "Nail Salon" bit and her iconic characters from Mad TV, but in this episode, we get into the nuts and bolts of her career and life as a mom. Anjelah shares her fascinating process for building a comedy hour, from recording every set to "cut the fat" to the daunting anxiety of starting a project from scratch. We dive into her self-produced special, Ugly Baby, and how she "sleuthed" her own audio archives to find the perfect family footage. Beyond the stage, we talk about her husband Manuel's "resplendent" hair and her daughter Rosie's hilarious two-year-old sass. Most importantly, Anjelah offers a powerful perspective on parenting: Your child isn't "giving you a hard time," they're going through a hard time. Watch Angela's New Special, Ugly Baby, HERE! Comedian Anjelah Johnson-Reyes joins the show to talk about her new special "Ugly Baby" and how a joke-writing class at her church kicked off her stand-up career. Then Christian UFO researcher Timothy Alberino comes on to make sense of the Pentagon's newly declassified UFO files. The cast walks through why aliens, demons and military tech are three different conversations most people are lumping into one, where the Nephilim theory in Genesis 6 fits in and why none of this should rattle anyone's theology. Alberino's book "Birthright" is worth a read if this rabbit hole calls to you.In RELEVANT Buzz, we also break down the American Idol finale, where all three finalists this season (Jordan McCullough, Hannah Harper and Keyla Richardson) are outspoken Christians. Plus comedian Jay Pharoah's conversation with Tamron Hall about the insane experience he had while committing to read through the Bible last year.In Slices, Derek tells us about a black bear in Gatlinburg that clawed its way into a bakery for some cinnamon rolls, and Jesse tells us about a CPR instructor that went into cardiac arrest and was saved by the students he was teaching CPR to."One Has to Go" closes things out with 2000s R&B, sequels better than the original, phone-era nostalgia, all-time athletes. Then it's the debut of the Editorial Question of the Week: Is it OK to turn down a friend's wedding party invitation just because you know it's going to be expensive? Anjelah Johnson-Reyes! Comedian! Actor! Podcaster! Friend! Delight! More! We have a great chat and you can have a great listen! Anjelah's 7th comedy special, "Anjelah Johnson-Reyes: Ugly Baby" (a self-financed and self-produced special where she makes her directorial debut) is out today, May 10, 2026 starting at 12PM PDT / 2PM CDT on her YouTube channel! From the special's press release, the show is "a dynamic hour of standup that blends humor and heart, exploring ever-evolving family dynamics, embracing her current stage of life, and the grand adventure of becoming a first-time mom in her later years. Following the success of her last two specials, 'Say I Won't' (over 8.6M views and counting) and 'Technically Not Stalking' (over 3.1M views and counting), it only makes sense that Anjelah also brings her 7th special to YouTube to continue making her comedy available to fans all over the world. The platform has been a home for Anjelah for over 20 years, ever since her 'Nail Salon' joke went viral. At the core of the special is Anjelah's journey into motherhood in her 40s. Using her natural wit and charm, she opens up about personal struggles with fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum life, while touching on the universal themes of relationships, generational shifts, and fighting people on airplanes. Anjelah's special is anchored in her relatability – you can't help but feel that she is your cool Tia commiserating with you on everything. Ahead of the new special, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes shares: 'I'm grateful that I've been able to do this 7 times. My boobs may be falling lower but at least my career continues to reach new heights, all thanks to my loyal fans that have been riding with me for so long. I hope you enjoy my most vulnerable hour yet!' Filmed live across two sold-out shows at the historic El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, the special is a co-production between her Laugh On Beat production company and 800 Pound Gorilla. The special was directed by Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and executive produced by Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Manwell Reyes, Stephen Gordon Walker, and Jordan Levy. Anjelah is one of the most successful stand-up comedians today with six comedy specials streaming on various platforms and selling out theaters across the world. Her 7th comedy special serves as the capstone to her largely successful "The Family Reunion" stand-up comedy tour, which spanned 100+ shows in major theaters across the US in 2025–2026. Over the course of the tour she sold over 200,000 tickets including two sold out shows at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, 4 sold out shows at The Grove of Anaheim, a sold out show at Smart Financial Centre in Houston, TX, and a sold out show at The Ryman in Nashville, TN. Born and raised in San Jose, California, and of Mexican and Native American descent, Anjelah has guest starred on shows such as Life & Beth, Superstore, The Shield, Ugly Betty, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Her film roles include Enough Said, Our Family Wedding, and Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Most recently, Anjelah joined Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross in the Amazon Prime feature, Candy Cane Lane. In February 2024, she returned for the second season of the Hulu original series, Life & Beth, and also hosted the 8-episode Tubi original series, My Crazy Quince, which premiered in May 2024. Anjelah published her first memoir titled, Who Do I Think I Am?: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams, in March 2022. She also recently launched her new comedy and mental health podcast, Funjelah, where Anjelah and her guests recount the things that they are grateful for and dive deep into how those gratitudes affect their lives. Based out of Nashville and Los Angeles, Anjelah lives with her husband Manwell, their daughter Rosie, and their dog Banzo." Enjoy! And this is only the first HALF of our chat. Before the Iraq war in 2003, Green Beret teams infiltrated Northern Iraq, linked up with the CIA, and embedded deeply with the Kurdish Peshmerga to prepare for war. These special missions were called “Advanced Force Operations.” Subsequently, these special teams brought in the rest of the Green Berets during an operation called "the Ugly Baby." Then, one of the most significant battles in Special Forces history occurred: "Operation Viking Hammer," where six Green Beret teams along with a handful of CIA and Air Force Special Ops personnel, combined with approximately 8000 Peshmerga, took back hundreds of square kilometers from almost 1000 Ansar Al Islam extremists, and secured a poison production facility of national level significance. This book is the only firsthand account of these essential Unconventional Warfare operations, written by an operator who was there. In addition to describing these historically significant Special Operations missions, "One Green Beret" also details a 15-year career in the Green Berets that includes many unique experiences, such as joint operations alongside Russian Spetznaz on the northern border of Kosovo, and postwar operations in Bosnia embedded deeply with the locals. Mark Giaconia questions everything, and provides a VERY humble, sobering, and human perspective on war, military service, and strategic considerations. One Green Beret is very inspiring, and conveys the author's personal evolution from gunslinger to educated computer scientist; a true tale of “post traumatic growth.”https://www.amazon.com/One-Green-Beret-Extraordinary-1996-2011-ebook/dp/B07D1V9XRLToday's Sponsors:
