Jason Longshore's Atlanta Soccer Tonight is back to look ahead to Game 3 between Atlanta United and Inter Miami on Saturday night. Hear from Derrick Williams, Bartosz Slisz, Ronald Hernandez, and Saba Lobjanidze ahead of the decisive playoff match.
In front of a roaring crowd of 68,455, Atlanta United pulled off a stunning upset, edging out Inter Miami 2-1 in extra time to force a decisive Game 3 in their MLS playoff series. Fans packed the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, making it the fifth-largest postseason crowd in league history, and they were treated to a thrilling underdog win. Inter Miami, the season's record-breaking top seed, now faces elimination after a nail-biting loss that saw Atlanta come alive in the closing minutes. The game-winning goal came from Atlanta's Xande Silva, who scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time, sending the stadium into a frenzy. Interim coach Rob Valentine, leading Atlanta after they squeezed into the playoffs as a wild card, said, “It was everything I dreamed it would be, an unbelievable moment.”Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender was understandably disappointed, saying, “It stings anytime you lose a game in stoppage time. We had a good opportunity to take it in two games, but now our focus is on Game 3 at home.”Despite the loss, Miami's coach Tata Martino remains confident, noting, “We have the advantage of many high-caliber players who have been through more difficult situations. I am satisfied with how they played, but frustrated with the result.” Martino pointed out that while Miami dominated possession and played aggressively, Atlanta capitalized on their few chances, including Derrick Williams' equalizing header in the 58th minute.Lionel Messi struggled to make an impact as Inter Miami fell to a 2-1 defeat against Atlanta United in the first round of the MLS Playoffs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, November 2. The Herons came into this match after a recent victory against the same team, but they couldn't carry that momentum forward. One fan called the team a “garbage low IQ team,” while another quipped about Messi's performance, asking, “Where Messi?”The defeat ties the best-of-three series at 1-1, with the final game set for Saturday, November 10, at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

For decades, barbershops have served as special places for people of color. The barber plays a major role in not only providing hair care services, but for many Black men, in particular, this person is responsible for how their customers are viewed and seen by society. Notions of identity, appearance and character are often assessed, evaluated, measured—even stereotyped by the way a Black man's hair is styled or fashioned. But what happens when haircutting suites and brick-and-mortar barbershops become safe havens? These establishments bring a unique sense of energy and refuge where Black men turn to for comfort, networking, career insight, health advice and gossip – a destination where they can discuss anything, from sports to politics—and not have to worry about being discriminated against or humiliated. Join us as Host Eddie Robinson takes I SEE U away from the broadcast studio and into Ken's Kutting Shoppe – a Black-owned barbershop and hair salon located near NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The owner, Ken Hicks, as well as one of his employees, Derrick Williams, share their stories of overcoming obstacles and a deadly pandemic all while transforming the lives of Black men (and their hair) for nearly 30 years.
On this episode of STATE of STATE, Justin and Tom are joined by former Penn State WR Derrick Williams! And be a teacher if you will or a coach on how to implement these best practices”. - Derrick Williams [20:48] “Absolutely timing is everything. Timing is everything timing, the market timing, your outreach, it all comes back to reaching out the right time”. - Derrick Williams [31:50] "...the single most important activity that a FRONTLINE leader can be doing with their time is developing their people". - Derrick Williams [43:09] TIMESTAMPS [0:00] - Meet Derrick Williams [2:56] - Derrick's beginning as an entrepreneur [6:35] - How Derrick dealt with being laid off [9:03] - Derrick on sales development at the top of the funnel [13:04] - Derrick on expectation setting clients [16:07] - Derrick on message market fit [25:54] - Derrick on asymmetry in sales development [31:49] - Derrick on the importance of timing in sales [35:55] - Derrick on founding a new department [41:38] - Derrick's best practices on coaching [49:47] - Connect with Derrick CONNECT Derrick's LinkedIn CIENCE on LinkedIn CIENCE on Facebook CIENCE on Twitter CIENCE on Instagram Learn more about your ad choices. Sometimes the most interesting conversations are between experts on parallel paths sharing their journeys and noticing what their paths have in common. This conversation between Donald Kelly and Derrick Williams (Founder and Principal of 3Link Consulting) is an example of just that - they both have a keen sense of sales trends that has been honed over years of work in the industry. Williams is as knowledgeable as they come, but like Donald, he's always learning more from the best and most educated voices in sales today. They discuss Williams' new project, The Sales Consultant Podcast, and cover some of the salient pieces of information that have started to reveal themselves as important as Williams has been going through his first round of interviews. Whether you're new in the field or have years of experience, check out the new podcast, and become a fly on the wall in a conversation between leaders in the field. A Throughline: Focus on the Fundamentals Communicating Value - Know how to open calls, all the way through to the end of the conversation. Discovery - Even if you have a good conversation with someone, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to lead somewhere. To be most efficient, try to avoid going down the wrong path by taking your time in the discovery phase. Practice - If you haven't mastered the basics, you can't move past the basics. Practice demos and rebuttals in real-time. As Williams says, “Get those reps up.” Keep your mind clear. No Time for False Positives False positives, or going too far down a fruitless path, is not something businesses can afford to do in the current sales climate. Whether a false positive occurs during hiring or targeting, it will (needlessly) cost the business resources. They happen because we want to rush into making revenue and because a certain amount of risk-taking is rewarded, especially in the culture. But a scientific, data-driven approach is ultimately more efficient. Having a sense of urgency can be okay, but having the proper practices in place in case things go wrong can soften the blow of losing a lead or doubling back. Check out The Sales Consultant Podcast for conversations that go into these topics, and so much more. Donald was interviewed on the podcast, too - let us know how you liked his episode! If you want to reach out to Donald, drop him a message on LinkedIn, Tik Tok, and Instagram @donaldckelly. You can also join TSE's space on Circle to talk to Donald and other sellers looking to improve their craft. “I'm looking to expand and broaden my research and understand what's working out there. Part of me getting better as a consultant and just as someone who wants to bring value to my clients, I need to be out there talking to industry experts. I need to be out there looking at what's working, and bringing that back into my engagements … I want to share that with those that are on a similar journey.” - Derrick Williams Resources Williams' podcast: The Sales Consultant (launching 2/27/2023). Derrick Williams is known in our community as someone who always celebrates people's accomplishments on social media.Derrick started running during the pandemic running in his backyard to music. The transition from football to running was different for Derrick in terms of stretching, mentality, and being a solo sport. The two highlighted the supportive and sharing nature of the running community and how runners are always willing to try new gear and share their experiences with others. In addition to running, Derrick also cross-trains at the gym and focuses on strength training with his background in football, which has influenced his strength training regimen, which he has been following for over 20 years. Derrick believes in the importance of strength training for runners and how it contributes to longevity in the sport. He values the running community and finds it to be supportive and encouraging, making the journey more fun and enjoyable. When it comes to running, Derrick doesn't have a specific mantra but just tells himself to keep going when things get tough. He has adopted the phrase "Go the extra mile. It's never crowded," as a way to push himself in all areas of life. Locked On Longhorns - Daily Podcast On Texas Longhorns Football & Basketball
The Preseason and Postseason SI99 are a collection of the best 99 players in the current recruiting cycle put together by Sports Illustrated and today's guest John Garcia Jr . Arch Manning, Malik Muhammad, Johntay Cook, Cedric Baxter, Derrick Williams, Derion Gullette, Anthony Hill, and Colton Vasek all made the SI99, but where do they rank amongst their respective position groups? John Garcia has Arch Manning ranked as the 9th overall player in the country and the third best Quarterback behind UCLA commit Dante Moore and Tennessee commit Nico Iamaleava, contrary to most sites that have Arch as the top player and top quarterback. We discuss what went into this decision with John. Also, Texas signee Ryan Niblett made the preseason 99, but was left off of the postseason SI99 that was made available last week. John Garcia discusses what went into the decision to leave Niblett off of his final 99 for the 2023 class. Also, we know that the Texas 2023 recruiting class is explosive from top to bottom, not just including the 8 Signees that made the list. If the list was to include more than 99 players, which Texas signee would be most likely to be added to the list? John talks about how Ryan Niblett, Deandre Moore and Tausili Akana all received consideration. This 2023 class has the chance to do something really special at The University of Texas, as evidenced by eight percent of the SI99 consisting of future players at the 40 acres. Texas has recruited at the level of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and LSU give or take in recent years but the on field product has not been able to rival that of those schools who have all either played for a National Championship or won a National Championship. It's time for Texas to get back on top. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. Longhorn fans had anticipated Early Signing Day more than they anticipated Christmas and while I don't necessarily condone that ... I understand. The day couldn't have gone better for the Longhorns as they watched commits such as Arch Manning, Cedric Baxter, Johntay Cook and Anthony Hill sign on the dotted line. While other schools were getting their top recruits poached and dealing with uncertainty, all 22 commits to Texas signed on the dotted line with little to no drama. On top of that, Texas was able to land a huge commitment of four star edge player Tausili Akana out of Utah, beating out Oklahoma and Colorado for his recruitment. Texas didn't just win in the high school space, they also picked up a corner with two years of starting experience in the ACC in Gavin Holmes from Wake Forest. We heard about potential flips, whether it being Ryan Niblett to Houston, Cedric Baxter to Florida State, Anthony Hill back to Texas A&M, or Derrick Williams to Miami. When the dust settled, all of those players signed and pledged allegiance to Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff at the 40 acres. This 2022 and 2023 class has the chance to be special, to put Texas back on the map and in that tier where they belong. When you look at the top of the sport, you see Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and Michigan. At the top of the Big 12 we've seen the likes of Oklahoma, Baylor and now TCU. It won't be long before you're seeing burnt orange. Hook EmSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!LinkedInLinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. And then Derrick Williams told Spectrum that guys aren't listening to the coaching staff. So that means there's a big problem in the locker room, right? Maybe not. Let's discuss. Host Josh Guesman is joined by LA Galaxy beat reporter Damian Calhoun (LA Daily News / SoCal News Group) to discuss the Galaxy's loss to the Rapids and why the organization's dysfunction is showing its teeth right now. Josh and Damian want to focus on the Galaxy's Designated Players and why Chicharito, Douglas Costa, and Kevin Cabral have been more misses than hits. What does that mean for the last 14 games of the season? And is there a way to the playoffs during this final stretch of games? Plus, the Galaxy front office has some explaining to do regarding contract lengths and is not aware of who would have been coming available this summer. Is this evidence of more problems in the scouting and analytics department? We've got a great show ready to get you through the early days of this week. And get you ready for the introduction of Gaston Brugman on Wednesday. Let's get to listening!
