This Day In Pro Wrestling History: December 9th WWE Vengeance 2001 ReviewThe final WWE PPV of 2001 was called Vengeance at a time when WWE decided to unify two World Titles to create one Undisputed WWE Champion.Since the WWE rivalry with WCW was done, they wanted to get rid of some of the titles they had from WCW. That meant a main event on this show where the WWE Champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would defend the title against Kurt Angle in one match while the World Champion (former the WCW World Championship) The Rock would defend that title against Chris Jericho. After that, the winners of those two matches would meet to determine who would be the Undisputed WWE Champion with both titles. The New Breed is Unleashed as Extreme Championship Wrestling returns! ECW One Night Stand #2 has just happened which called for the relaunch of the ECW brand. This time it's different as it's under the WWE banner. We take a look at the very first episode of ECW on Sci-Fi. Because it is on Sci-Fi we get a LITERAL Zombie on the inaugural episode and he takes on none other than The Sandman. Rob Van Dam, who had previously won the WWE Championship at One Night Stand, is awarded the new ECW Championship. Edge shows up and spears RVD while John Cena shows up in the crowd as mayhem unfolds. Kurt Angle is now known as “The Wrestling Machine” and he proves it as he gives no offense to Justin Credible in their match. Vengeance 2005 played host to the final match in the series between World Heavyweight Champion Batista, and Triple H, this time in a Hell in a Cell. This came at a time when John Cena had just been drafted over to the Raw brand, and was defending his WWE Title in a triple threat match against both Chris Jericho and Christian, and the very real personal lives of Lita and Edge were just coming to the fore, as Edge wrapped up his feud with Kane. Add on top of that, a dream rematch between Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle, and it all makes for a fascinating look back to the period.
