The WSL dropped a bomb on the surf world this week, and like Swedish captives, we all collectively cheered. On this episode of The Drop, Stab's co-founder Sam McIntosh is joined by the WSL's new CEO Ryan Crosby to discuss the League's major (and widely lauded) around for the 2026 CT season. Here's the TLDR version, ICYMI: - The Final Five is dead. - So is the mid-year cut - So is the non-elimination opening round - The 2026 Championship Tour will feature 12 events — with a late season ‘playoff'. - It will start at Bells Beach in April and end at Pipeline in December, where points will be weighted at 150%. - World Titles will once again be decided by cumulative points, not a single-day shootout. After that, Mikey and Buck hop on to discuss a few other stories from the week, including an incredible Greg Browning eulogy, a piece on lineup personalities, and an academic excuse for surfing more.

This Day In Pro Wrestling History: December 9th WWE Vengeance 2001 ReviewThe final WWE PPV of 2001 was called Vengeance at a time when WWE decided to unify two World Titles to create one Undisputed WWE Champion.Since the WWE rivalry with WCW was done, they wanted to get rid of some of the titles they had from WCW. That meant a main event on this show where the WWE Champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would defend the title against Kurt Angle in one match while the World Champion (former the WCW World Championship) The Rock would defend that title against Chris Jericho. After that, the winners of those two matches would meet to determine who would be the Undisputed WWE Champion with both titles. Four superstars, three matches and the result would be one Undisputed WWE Champion.Follow Us On Social Media!YouTube: / perchedonthetopropeFacebook: www.facebook.com/perchedonthetopropeX: @perchedtopropeTik Tok: / perchedonthetopropeInstagram: @perchedonthetopropepodcast#OnThisDay #ThisDayInProWrestlingHistory #wwehistory #wrestlingcommunity #wrestlingnews #perchedonthetoprope #wwewrestlerSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/perchedonthetoprope/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Dan Wiffen won Ireland's first (and second) world championship medals ever last week in Doha, earning double gold in the 800 and 1500 freestyles. Wiffen takes us through his entire process at the meet and after hearing it, you can see how dialed into distance swimming he really is. For example, in the 1500 prelim, after seeing Florian Wellbrock throw down a quick 14:48, Wiffen knew he only had to swim around 14:54 to make the final. Knowing those around him would be sticking with him, Wiffen paced his race accordingly to see if he could lure any swimmers into accidentally swimming too slow to make the final. Greg Paltrinieri, the 2022 world champion in the event, did just that, swimming right next to Wiffen and ultimately placing 9th in the prelim, missing the final.
In 2014, Sam Gaze was a privateering teenager from a rural farming town in New Zealand when he took the men's title in the opening round of an eliminator World Cup in Cairns, Australia. With this breakout ride, he caught the eye of Specialized Racing and relocated to Europe, where he went on to claim five world titles, including U23 World Champion and Elite Marathon and Short Track World Champion. He now races for UCI team Alpecin–Deceuninck where he competes in the WorldTour as well as the World Cup. Payson sat down with Sam in Girona to talk about breaking Nino Schurter's record-setting winning streak in the opening round of the 2018 World Cup, being mentored by Christoph Sauser, and how winning the World Championship in 2018 with his dad at the finish was the best day of his life. But they also discuss the low points, such as the infamous moment at the 2018 Commonwealth Games when his spur-of-the-moment reaction toward an opponent sparked a media frenzy. The experience intensified his ongoing struggle with depression and caused him to take a hiatus from cycling for much of 2019. In the end, it took medical advice and some encouragement from friend and former opponent, Mathieu van der Poel, to bring him back. Sam talks about his experience with depression, racing with Alpecin, and setting his sights on the Paris Olympics.Instagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen
