As our population grows, and we welcome people from around the world, the GAA is one space which can really help with integration. When Boidu Sayeh moved here at the age of 8, he only knew of soccer and was introduced to football by his cousins in Ireland. The result has been a long career including playing for his county of Westmeath. Now, he wants to share with others the benefits of getting involved in their community GAA clubs. The Westmeath footballing star joined Dermot and Dave to chat about his love of the game, taking on the DS's in Ultimate Hell Week: The Professionals, and the incredible work he's doing with Zambrero Ireland. My guest on this episode of FOR LOVE & MONEY is a man who describes himself as ”a four-time loser before I realised I was in the wrong game”. He is Dave Dahl. Creator of Dave's Killer Bread, the USA's number 1 organic bread. If you haven't heard of Dave's Killer Bread, I can't wait to share the story behind it. If you have, then you know you'll want to listen to this episode. Dave's story IS the story of Dave's Killer Bread. It is a story of a family bakery that became the business behind the USA's number 1 organic bread. It is a story of transformation and inspiration. Dave's Killer Bread has a purpose behind every loaf; a purpose about second chances. It may not be as well-known a brand in Australia as other purpose-led brands like Patagonia or Zambrero. Yet every time I share a bit of this story, people connect with it and want to learn more. Its power I believe is that it is a very HUMAN story. Quite the antithesis of what we have come to expect of business. Our interview covers Dave's backstory and how it connects with the business that was sold in 2015 to Flower Foods for US$@275 million. Here are some of the things that Dave shares in this interview: Dave's early life leading to four stints in prison How a prison workshop initiative helped Dave to connect to his purpose and feel like he belonged for the first time How Dave used a second chance to build the USA's number 1 organic bread The power of story in bringing a purpose to life How Dave's Killer Bread became a supporter of the Second Chance Initiative Dave's work with his charity Constructing Hope You can learn more about Dave Dahl here at his official website https://davedahl360.com If you would like to learn more about or donate to Constructing Hope, you can do so here https://www.constructinghope.org

I had a great chat with former professional rugby player and now general manager of Zambrero, Darragh Fanning. Zambrero is a Mexican food franchise which started in Australia, with a focus on healthy and affordable food, which also helps to save world hunger. Every burrito or bowl purchased means a meal donated to someone in need with Plate 4 Plate, a charity partnering with Rise Against Hunger. To date they've donated over 40 million meals! Darragh talks about how he discovered Zambrero whilst in Australia in his mid-twenties, how his life changed afterwards and his professional rugby journey. In 2015, after six years, Stuart Cook stepped down from his role as the CEO of Zambrero – an International Quick Service Mexican restaurant chain. During his time as CEO, Stuart increased revenue from $1.1 million to over $75 million in sales and expanded the business into three countries. Stuart, along with the founder, developed the Plate4Plate initiative: where every meal sold within a Zambrero restaurant, is matched by a meal donated to someone in need. As of December 2019, Plate4Plate provided over 35 million meals. Stuart’s first investment was in 2011 with The Entourage, which has grown to become Australia’s largest entrepreneurship education company. In 2020 Stuart co-founded Flave in Sydney Australia with a mission to make the freshest and tastiest 100% plant based meal subscription, delivered weekly to your door. www.instagram.com/stueycook www.twiyocapital.com www.flave.com Notes from the show Productivity Coach: www.fastertomaster.com Michael Jordan Documentary on Netflix Meditation App www.headspace.com Brain Training App www.elevateapp.com www.fitstop.com Mobility App: www.gowod.app *** If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes? Carolyn Butler-Madden is the founder of Sunday Lunch, a marketing consultancy that specialises in cause and purpose-led marketing. Carolyn believes that by aligning a brand with a cause in a way that unlocks both brand and social value, businesses can do well by doing good. Carolyn is the author of Amazon best-selling book Path To Purpose, Australia’s first book on cause marketing. She’s also a contributing author to B1G1’s Better Business, Better Life, Better World book. Her vision for the future is simple - Brands drive profit through purpose. Marketing becomes a force for good. In this episode, Carolyn gives us a behind the scenes look at how cause marketing works, and talks about the history of the movement in Australia. She talks about how everything turned pink in Australia to support breast cancer, and how companies jumped on the bandwagon without giving any real thought to how it aligned with their brand. She tells us why this strategy is flawed, and how the ‘pink wave’ was a setback for the cause marketing movement in Australia. Carolyn talks about the strategies and stories behind some of the brands who are the best at cause marketing, including Zambreros, Airbnb, Pampers, and Allphones. If you want to learn about the power of cause marketing and how you can strategically align giving within your business, then take a listen. Enjoy! What You Will Discover in This Episode: How a trip to London turned into a 10-year career in the advertising industry. The cause marketing campaign that generated a 60% increase in brand trust. The misguided giving strategy that set Australia back years. How giving authentically with a strategically aligned purpose can be a powerful point of difference. Zambrero’s inspiring mission of giving 1 billion meals to those in need. How Airbnb used cause marketing to unlock $7 million worth of free media value. How Pampers’s giving strategy has enabled them to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus in 20 countries. The story behind the success of the Allphones Red Hot Chilli Challenge campaign.
