Tim Horan joined the show to recap an incredible third-test win by the Wallabies on the weekend against the British Lions, and what the rivarly means for Rugby. Horan told Peter Psaltis on 4BC Wide World of Sports "I think I don't really think we're competing against the AFL and NRL anymore, I just think we've got our own niche." "When the Wallabies play, the gold jersey stands up and I think we've carved out a nice little piece. Now the Wallabies just need to keep this momentum going and potentially have a crack at the Bledisloe." Horan continued.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Together with the writer Taisia Kitaiskaia, she co-created Literary Witches: A Celebration of Magical Women Writers and The Literary Witches Oracle Deck. Born in 1960 in Sydney, Australia, Cheyne Horan joined the pro tour in 1977 at age 16, and finished second in the world four times, in 1978, '79, '81, and '82. He surfed with an urgency and potency, weaving in and around the pocket on his needle nose, fat-tailed Lazor Zap single-fins. His boards had vibrant, elaborate airsprays. His wetsuits were bright and loud. His hair was peroxide blond. He became a macrobiotic vegetarian, a yogi, a devotee of astrology, and the I Ching. He was outwardly pro-weed and pro-psychedelics. Horan retired from the pro tour in 1993. Soon after, he began to focus on big waves, riding giant Waimea Bay, Outer Log Cabins, and Jaws. In 1999, he won the Quiksilver Masters World Championships. Today, Horan shapes boards and runs a surf school in Queensland. In this episode of Soundings, Horan sits down with Jamie Brisick to talk about dealing with fame, committing to the single-fin, pro surfing's wild days, and his victory at the 1989 Billabong Pro at Sunset Beach.

When I was serving in Afghanistan, it was always mission first. You have to get the “scared” out of your mind. I told myself that God put me here for a reason. -Erica Horan By popular demand, we're reissuing a handful of our most popular interviews. Meet Boston Medflight www.bostonmedflight.org nurse and US Air Force veteran, Erica Horan. Recorded 5 years ago in a hangar at a municipal airport just outside of Boston, this interview tells the story of a former black belt champion driven to serve and succeed. A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Erica became a commissioned officer in the Air Force as a critical care nurse shortly after earning her nursing degree. She saw every kind of injury on the front lines in Afghanistan, and speaks candidly about her own struggles with depression and the need for mental health support for our troops. Says Erica: “I counted the days until I got home, but when I got here, I didn't know what to do with myself. I wanted to go back. I didn't receive mental health support, and had a hard time adjusting.” Born to care for others, Erica has been a key player on Boston Medflight's four medical teams for 7 years now and is incredibly proud of the people she works with. “We take care of very sick people as quickly as possible. Every day is different, and we work 12-hour shifts. You don't know what you're gonna get. We all have to keep learning at this job because medicine is changing every day.” Married to a surgeon who commutes from a military hospital in California back to his family in the Boston area every week, the couple has 3 children they are devoted to. Says Erica: “If I can raise three good human beings who are respectful, inclusive, and God-fearing, then I've made it. That's success to me. “ From war stories to love stories, patriotism and purpose, this interview has it all. Today I welcome Katy Horan to the show to discuss her new book, MURDER BALLADS. She painted each powerful illustration in the book and spent years researching these folk songs, which often depict young, beautiful, murdered women floating ethereally down a river. We discuss her process and background and, for my own curiosity, focus on songs by Johnny Cash, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave, and Nirvana's famous Unplugged performance. Gregg Horan is the founder — and namesake — behind The Greggory, and owner and managing partner of Hearth Hospitality. A sharp, good-humored force in Chicago's dining scene, Horan's journey took him from wild shifts at Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville to the polished halls of Gibson's, where he helped the restaurant evolve into one of the world's premier restaurant groups. Now, he brings his expertise to his own venture in South Barrington's Arboretum, where rustic tavern fare meets steakhouse precision. He joins us in the studio to talk about scaling service without sacrificing soul, navigating celebrity tables, building a restaurant that reflects both his name (whether or not it's spelled the same way) and his ethos — and so much more!

Lindsay is joined by illustrator and author Katy Horan to discuss her book, “Murder Ballads: Illustrated Lyrics and Lore,” which will be released by Andrews McMeel on April 29, 2025. In this unique, illustrated collection, Literary Witches co-creator Katy Horan unearths the true and fictional stories behind twenty traditional murder ballads, exploring the beauty and horror of the art form through stories, lyrics, and original illustrations. Murder Ballads is a guide to the origins and cultural impact of murder ballads as a music genre, covering its roots in patriarchal violence and white supremacy, as well as its contemporary relationship to true crime. Mysterious and alluring as the songs themselves, Murder Ballads will delight history enthusiasts, armchair musicologists, true crime fans (and critics), as well as anyone who appreciates the darker side of folk music. Katy Horan is a Texas-based Illustrator and fine artist. She received her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003 and has since become known for work that is dark, beautiful, and almost always about women. A shift in leadership often brings a shift in economic direction, and with that, a wave of uncertainty for business leaders. Recent changes in trade policy have sparked a great deal of conversation (and concern) around tariffs, trade imbalances, and global supply chains. But what we're seeing now isn't the final chapter—it's part of a broader strategy to reshape the future of international trade and industrial development in the U.S. The goals are ambitious: addressing the national debt, correcting long-standing trade deficits, bringing key industries back onshore, and rethinking the rules of global commerce. While the path forward may seem unpredictable, there is a long-term vision driving these moves. The U.S. has long relied on the free market to guide economic outcomes, but certain challenges, like national security and the health of strategic industries, require more than market forces alone. Trade, especially when it intersects with geopolitical and security interests, demands a more hands-on approach. So, what does this mean for today's financial leaders? How should CFOs be preparing for the ripple effects of tariffs and other trade measures? In this episode of the podcast, I sit down with Dr. Steve Horan, Former Managing Director of the prestigious CFA Institute and Finance Professor at UNC-Wilmington, to explore the broader implications of evolving trade policy. We talk about the big picture—debt reduction, onshoring trends, and how leaders can position their organizations for success in this dynamic environment. In this episode, you'll learn: The least painful path to reducing the national debt Are tariffs a tax or a tool? Will tariffs be an effective trade negotiation lever What's really driving interest rates The biggest concern for CFOs right now (hint: it's not what you think) Guest Bio Dr. Steve Horan is an Associate Professor of Finance at UNC Wilmington. Throughout his 30 years in the industry, Steve has leveraged his experience as a practitioner, educator and thought leader to engage the investment management profession on key industry issues. Richard Horan first arrived at Esalen in the mid 1960s, traveling from Los Angeles to Big Sur at the height of a cultural renaissance. He was an early member of the Esalen massage crew and played a pivotal role in founding the Esalen Garden, a space that continues to nourish the land and community today. He was also deeply involved in the psychedelic inquiry of the time. Over the years, his connections to Esalen deepened: with Gabrielle Roth he had a son, Jonathan Horan. Later, he married Peggy Horan, and together they raised two daughters, Lucia and Jasmine. Horan's purpose as an artist was revealed to him during his time at Esalen when he founded the Art Barn as a collective with other artists. Horan remains legendary in Big Sur for his mastery of jade carving. His work includes rings, earrings, pendants, belt buckles, and sculptures, many of which are inspired by ancient esoteric symbols and indigenous traditions. His signature earrings are renowned for their thin-cut jade, which allows light to pass through. As a multi media artist, he has worked in depth with clay, redwood and jade, making musical instruments, art objects and jewelry. Today, we'll hear from Richard as he reflects on his journey—his artistic process, his connection to Esalen, and the life he has built in harmony with the wild nature of Big Sur. In this episode Prof.Virginia Horan and I discuss the changing landscape of education, focusing on the impact of technology, parental involvement, and mental health on students. We talk about the importance of a holistic approach to education, self-care, and time management, and the value of traditional methods combined with technology. We also highlight the need for personal growth, resilience, and self-esteem. Professor Ginny Horan has been teaching Communication since 1991 as a member of the full-time faculty at Suffolk County Community College. After researching the decline in student success, she discovered many Gen Z students lack time management skills, so five years ago she created a paper planner that teaches time management AND offers emotional and academic support through weekly video tutorials that match printed tips in the planner itself. Episode Takeaways All technology is not necessarily good technology when it comes to learning More students today in college are ambivalent and unsure Flashcards, time management, and note-taking are still essential Parents are also heavily managing their child's high school life which makes learning time management more challenging Every college has tutoring, test anxiety workshops, time management workshops, and mental health resources The Centered Student planners have a QR code to provide emotional support and tips throughout the first year of college Writing by hand slows students down, to think about what they are actually writing When you are feeling overwhelmed try to HALT and assess if you are Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired When you don't feel in control you feel anxious, if you feel in control you'll feel a little less anxious Parents you have to let your kids fail Guided meditations are a perfect way to ease instant anxiety Maybe we could all Check out the website for more resources: www.thecenteredstudentplanner.com Follow along on Instagram too :) @thecenteredstudent
