Our next Sunshine Guest, Kate Steele, has an awe-inspiring story of resilience. After surviving a catastrophic car accident, she has spent the last 14 years navigating life as a mom, quadriplegic, entrepreneur, and connector. But at her core, she is simply human—seeking, stumbling, and finding her way back to her essence.Kate's journey is a testament to the power of light, surrender, and trust. She shares how Salt has played a profound role in her healing, reminding us of Matthew 5:13-16:“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”Living with paralysis means relying on 24/7 care—a reality that has shaped Kate's deep perspective on health, well-being, and what it means to truly trust. Through survival, she has found strength. Through surrender, she has found light.“I believe in a world where you become whole within yourself, and that frequency radiates to the environment around you and all that you touch.”Kate's story invites us all to reflect: How are we shining our light? How are we seasoning the world around us?Join us for a conversation that will move your heart and uplift your spirit.

For years, no one could explain his pain and suffering. He experienced rashes, hives, lethargy, depression, swellings, allergies, and crippling back pain. No doctor could identify his mysterious disease, and some seemed to think he was crazy. Frustrated and losing hope, he almost agreed with them. That's when he took his health into his own hands. Through research and experimentation, Dr. Christopher J. Dorais found answers. He discovered several problems that stemmed from external and internal sources. It all boiled down to a simple, yet complex concept: detoxification. From poisonous mercury that leeched into his bloodstream via tooth fillings to pathogenic bacteria and parasites, Dorais recognized the sources of his myriad symptoms. He found effective ways to detoxify his body, and his health slowly returned. Now, those years of discomfort are a distant memory, and Dorais is healthier than ever. Detox Memoir chronicles his descent into physical misery, his frustrations with the medical establishment, his personal research, and his subsequent recovery. It's a complete detox story for patients who struggle with similar problems or doctors who are flummoxed by medical mysteries. If patients inform themselves, and doctors think outside the box, no one will have to relive the same nightmare. *This episode is not for little ears. What does your wife mean when she says, "I'm Fine." It means she's overwhelmed, bro. It means that she does not have the capacity or the exact words to tell you the depths of her ocean of overwhelm. It means she wants to be OK. She is trying to be OK. But in order to be OK she has to process the weight and the gravity of what's on her chest and she doesn't have the wherewithal to tell you the about the universe and stars that are circling every cell in her body at the moment. This may sound dramatic, but as a woman I can tell you, it's the truth. "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." - Brene Brown BRAVE is the first word that comes to mind when thinking of this episode with Lisa Husken. Sharing the deepest parts of ourselves is never easy, but in this 60 minute chat Lisa takes us on her journey of navigating an eating disorder since the age of 8 years old. At one point in her road to recovery she was 90 lbs. and 3-5% body fat. If you struggle with anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphia, or any kind of disordered eating, this episode is for you! For many of us, the journey to self-love is long, arduous and all about control. When the world is spinning out of control (divorce, grief, loss, stress etc.), what we put in our mouths and how we LOOK is something we can control. Unfortunately this kind of control is an illusion and leads down a path of self-destruction. Eating disorders aren't just something we "get over" --- healing is a process and often times requires professional help. Don't be ashamed to ask for help; in fact, asking for help is a super power! Lisa tells us in this episode, "If and when you slip on your road to recovery, don't beat yourself up. Your eating disorder doesn't define you." She also shares about the pressures of being in the fitness community, how to help someone with an eating disorder and the TOP 3 things that supported her healing journey. ACTION from the episode: We need to STOP talking about women's bodies and remember that our kids are ALWAYS listening, watching, witnessing and being influenced by our words/actions. This interview with Kailey Lena is a breath of fresh air. Kailey is the founder of Energetic Wellness, a Registered Nurse, 200 hr Registered Yoga Instructor and Energy worker. The essence of her work is to facilitate self-healing by helping clients identify underlying mind, body and spirit challenges. Kailey started out in traditional medicine, working at Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor in the Pediatric Cardiothoracic ICU. She decided to pursue more holistic and root cause healing, connecting her patients with the energetic and spiritual systems that we all have within us. Coupled with lifestyle coaching, Kailey uses the Morphogenic Field Technique. The morphogenic field is the extension of the body's nervous system. Our bodies are pure energy at their cores, and each cell communicates through electronic signals. These electronic signals stimulate our hearts to beat, our lungs to breathe, our reflexes to keep us safe, and the manner in which our cells react to good and bad substances that we introduce to our bodies. This is our built-in, intelligent system that allows us to evolve, maintain youth and generate more energy. Tapping into your unique field of energy allows for infinite possibilities for healing and personal growth. While Kailey is passionate about helping everyone, her focus is to hold space for young adults as they enter a new world of starting careers, friendships, families, habits and lifestyles that will shape their health and wellbeing. Tips to breeeeathe through the ever-present external noise and find a little more quietude. Good advice for everyday, but especially this time of year (pre-holiday bustle). Pratya- what? Pratyahara is a Sanskrit word meaning "withdrawal of the senses.” The two root Sanskrit words of pratyahara are prati, which means “to withdraw,” and ahara, which means “food;” in this case, “food” refers to any external stimuli that you consume with your mind. For me, it's super difficult to tune out the external noise and it takes LOTS of practice and daily quiet time to calm my crazy monkey mind. Can anyone else relate? This conversation reminds me of the familiar phrase: "If you build it, they will come..." Dancing Spirit Ranch is special for so many reasons. It has over 20 sacred stone sites on property and they have hosted over 100 retreats. Robin calls these retreats: "laid back luxury" and I love that because it feels like the best of both worlds. During this interview you will learn so much more! Robin shares, "Our guests always leave with their cups full." "More and more people are looking specifically for Wellness Travel/Experiences, not just travel. That's what Dancing Spirit Ranch offers." Join Us!! God doesn't want us to forget. He is a God of love and second chances. We will turn away from him again and again. We will blame him again and again. But He is there; an ever loving being of hope and perseverance. A good example of this is what we just experienced in 2020 called The Great Pause. Most of us call it a Pandemic or Covid or when the world went bat shit crazy!! But if you look at the other perspective there was an incredible PAUSE that happened. Where rivers and oceans could heal. Where the man-made smog didn't fill the sky and cars were not out polluting the ozone for months on end. In a time when the air was probably the cleanest it's been in a century, we were forced to wear masks and isolate ourselves. BUT all the while, God was working in ways we cannot even imagine. Even in the devastation, God was there. He is always the silver lining. He is always the hope. What if this is a second chance? A deutero - a do over. We were saying YES too often, and No not enough. We were building, spinning, creating more more more more, and we lost the point of it all. Love. Acceptance. Taking care of this ONE planet we all get to share?! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/alimarielong/support

Let's UNPACK OUR SH** and talk about the hard stuff w/ Cricket Alexander, LMSW & Chief Clinical Officer and John Evans, MA, PHD, Director of Mental Conditioning of BLND Health. Right off the bat you will be fascinated to know that Cricket does an impeccable impersonation of Janis Joplin halfway through the interview and John worked 7 years with U.S. Army Special Operations Forces (SOF), training mental performance and human engagement skills. WOAH!! Three things most certainly happen in life--- we are born, we die and in between we have to navigate the crazy-train. So how do we do it!?! John talks to us about training the brain for optimal performance and general mental wellness. He shares that "thoughts are information - not directions." (love that!) Cricket encourages us to TAKE ACTION when our mental health is at risk. We all go to doctors for checkups... let's not leave mental health last on the list! You will learn so much in this interview! This one is for ALL of the mamas out there looking for a little more balance in their lives (fur babies included)! Special guest, Stephanie Halley talks to us about work/life balance and what her day-to-day looks like as a Veterinarian, Master Fitness Instructor, wife and fur mom. How does one find time to practice medicine, perform surgery, connect w/ pet owners, create kick ass workouts AND still find time to rest and recover?! Stephanie manages to navigate the shit storms of life with grace and balance. We can all learn a lot from this conversation! One thing she shares with us is the gift of being able to compartmentalize. She says, "find a way to focus on what you need do, handle it, ask yourself: is there anything you could have done differently? If not, then find peace with it and move on." Such great advice! May is Mental Health Awareness Month and during this interview we talk about the importance of self-care. Vet Medicine has a high rate of suicide and Stephanie bravely shares how to manage the heavy load of student loans, dealing with pet owners and removing emotion from her work. If you see Stephanie on social media, you might think: "oh, she's just one of those lucky people that's naturally fit. I could never look like her/do that/achieve those goals" but that's so far from the truth! Stephanie had to fight for everything she has, both with her health and career. She truly is the epitome of STRONG. You REALLY can do anything you put your mind to! "Sometimes all it takes is 30 seconds of BRAVE to achieve our goals!" If you want to witness the difference ONE person can make; meet Sarah Klein. Her remarkable COURAGE and story will astound you. Sarah Klein is an attorney, an advocate for victims of sexual abuse, and a former competitive gymnast. Sarah is also one of the first known victims of former Olympic Women's Gymnastics Larry Nassar, and in July 2018, at the ESPYs, Sarah accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on behalf of herself and the hundreds of other survivors of Nassar's sexual abuse. Prior recipients of the Ashe award include Nelson Mandela, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and Robin Roberts. Today, Sarah is a widely respected advocate for legal, cultural, and political change. Her op-ed in the Philadelphia Inquirer, “I lobbied to change the law after I was abused by Larry Nassar,” caught the attention of Pennsylvania's Attorney General, and she has worked in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, California and elsewhere for legal reform that will bring survivors healing and justice. Sarah believes that the time has come for the law to impose upon abusers and their enablers, both institutions and individuals, the legal consequences they deserve. Sarah is an alumna of Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Global Entrepreneurship program. She sits on the Board of Directors of CHILD USAdvocacy, an organization committed to protecting children's civil liberties and keeping children safe from abuse. She also sits on the Board of the Montgomery County Advocacy Project (MCAP), preventing child abuse and neglect in Montgomery County through legal services, advocacy, and education.
