And I think that's one of the things that we really pride ourselves on at the festival is making it feel really warm and really open.” (7:34) “It's a very rare opportunity for an aspiring and emerging storyteller to get in a room with someone who's an actual gatekeeper for Hollywood, to hear their perspective on what they're looking for and their advice to emerging voices, and to have the opportunity to speak with them, either one-on-one or in a group, and really pitch themselves.” (16:22) “I want any of our listeners who sort of skew on the shyer side to practice introducing themselves to somebody that they don't know.” (19:03) “My advice is watch everything. And I know that sounds trite, but it's so important to get outside your own taste bubble.” (25:34) “Make space for things that don't jump out at you. And you would be surprised how much you can love something that didn't really necessarily call to you.” (25:58) “It can be very stressful when you're not prepared, and you're used to productions that are really very carefully planned. If you move an inch, then it's a disaster.” (38:09) “I'm still trying to figure out why, but I'm more attracted to still photography than stills from other movies.” (52:18) Resources Mentioned: Austin Film Festival On Story podcast Mihai Malaimare Jr. on Instagram Mihai Malaimare Jr. on IMDb Mihai Malaimare Jr.'s website Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web https://nofilmschool.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/nofilmschool Twitter https://twitter.com/nofilmschool YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/nofilmschool Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nofilmschool Send us an email with questions or feedback: podcast@nofilmschool.com! Vita Artreche is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) that has worked in countless events ranging from conferences, trade shows, weddings, and fundraisers. She is currently the Conference Director for Jesus Film Project where she leads the event team with day to day operations, strategy, and professional development. This was such a fun conversation. For about a decade, I worked in the hospitality/convention industry with an audio visual company so being able to share stories with Vita brought back so many memories (the good, the bad, the stressful and everything in between) I absolutely loved hearing about Vita's wisdom when it comes to setting high quality standards, yet employing empathy and teamwork during the entire event planning process. Her ability in finding collaborative ways to digest creative vision, and execute while being able to effectively set expectations is truly an art. Enjoy this chat! In today's episode, we're talking with Dan Noyes, Senior Communications Consultant, Morressier. Dan is interviewed by Matthew Ismail, a Conference Director and Editor in Chief of the Charleston Briefings. Dan talks with Matthew about the role of a Communications Consultant in today's scholarly communication organization and how this public relations role differs from being a “spin doctor.” Dan says that public relations is not so much about pushing out prepared statements as it is a matter of “reading the room,” or listening to people to figure out who they are and what their needs and interests are. A library's needs will be different from a physicist's needs, and the needs of a researcher publishing or viewing a paper are different from a manager's needs, so untangling and aligning them or offering different channels for them for expression and collaboration is the goal. Integrity and Authenticity are very important to establishing trust between an organization and its various constituents. In today's episode, we're talking with Adam Chesler, Director of Global Sales, American Institute of Physics. Adam is interviewed by Matthew Ismail, a Conference Director and Editor in Chief of the Charleston Briefings. Adam talks with Matthew about STEM publishing, the physics niche in publishing, and the relationship between the publisher and the customer. He says that, at some level, his job is to help AIP keep the lights on, and Adam explains how the sales of AIP journal subscriptions supports the mission of the society. Libraries do not always consider the fact that the journals have a larger role in the mission of the society, wanting to pay as little as possible for the content, and it is Adam's job, not only to sell journals, but to communicate the value of the product in the broader STEM research ecosystem. Sven is interviewed by Matthew Ismail, a Conference Director and Editor in Chief of the Charleston Briefings. Today we are featuring a conversation with Ivy Cavendish, the Founder of TooWrite, a tool designed to help scientists write up the results of their research (recently acquired by Springer-Nature), and Eugenie Regan, Vice President Research Solutions at Springer Nature. Ivy was a PhD student in Literature when she founded TooWrite in response to the struggles of her co-founder as he was writing his dissertation in computational biology. Ivy believed that the process of science writing was much more complicated and stressful than it needed to be and she created TooWrite specifically to help scientists write up the results of their research. The TooWrite platform transforms scientific writing into a formula; instead of being akin to drafting an essay, TooWrite allows researchers to write in short, editor-supported bursts via self-composed questionnaires. The result is a writing process that is faster, healthier, and more accessible. Eugenie Regen explains why Springer-Nature acquired TooWrite and what they hope it can do for researchers. Too Write can be a transformative tool that levels the playing field for researchers around the world and helps provide more work-life balance. Ivy and Eugenie are interviewed by Matthew Ismail, editor in chief of the Charleston Briefings and a Conference Director. The River Betty Rodgers-Kulich pt 2 If you've been listening to this program for any length of time, you know I'm an avid reader. That is one reason I enjoy interviewing authors. Amen! Well, fasten your seat belts because today, we have the blessed pleasure of interviewing Betty Rodgers-Kulich about her award winning book, “The River.” “The River: A Spiritually Transforming Journey” is book one of what is now becoming a trilogy. Betty describes this book as a cross between “The Shack” and a modern day “Pilgrim's Progress” type of book!” Amen! We'll find out more about that in a minute… This book won the 2021 Christian Indie Publisher Award and is great book that has now become book one of a trilogy in the making! Praise God! Betty is an ordained minister and serves as an Associate Pastor, along with her husband Rick of 47 years, at the Redeemer's Church in Columbus, Ohio. She has been teaching and preaching since 2003. Betty also serves as a Women's Conference Director for Harvest Preparation International Ministries (HPIM.ORG), a non-profit Biblical ministry that trains and impacts leaders globally. She travels internationally doing women's conferences, teaching, developing and mentoring other women. Prior to being in ministry full time, Betty was a high school teacher for 30 years and holds a Master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and Early Childhood Development. She is also an “Advanced Writers & Speakers Association” certified speaker! AMEN! This is part two of a great two part interview! Did you keep the characters from book one? Are we like, following them, on their quest? How far along are you with book two? You and your husband, Rick, are trying to make people aware of the complacency that has been adopted these past few years in the American Church. How does this book help you to do that? You are not only a fiction writer, but a non-fiction writer as well. Your book, “When the Light Grows Dim” is in reference to the modern American church. Can you share a little about that? You are also a writer of devotionals, correct? Can you tell us about bit about that? How did you get into that aspect of writing? You also recently came back from a trip to Mexico where you were at a conference. Share with us about your work and travels… Betty, this is all so fascinating. How can someone obtain a copy of your book, “The River: A Spiritually Transforming Journey?” Is it on Amazon? What about the Trilogy? When will that be released? If someone wanted to reach out to you to ask a question, maybe to invite you to a conference of maybe even do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this in the show notes below. Folks, this book is one that you will not put down when you begin to read it. Betty Rodgers-Kulich has crafted this book under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and it will hold you until you finish… Then you're going to going on line and looking for book two and wondering why it's not released yet! Praise God! At the time of this recording, Christmas is just around the corner! You should definitely invest in...

Other than that brief information which I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Betty Rodgers-Kulich? Now, why did you write this book “The River,” to begin with? What motivated you to write this type of book? How long did it take you to write this book? Explain for us this, “Cross between “The Shack” and a modern day “Pilgrim's Progress” type of book.” What does that mean? You also developed a work book to go with this book, correct? How is the work book used in conjunction with a fictional book? When did you decide to make “The River” into a trilogy, with this as book one? What is the theme behind the trilogy? Folks, this book is one that you will not put down when you begin to read it. Near death experiences (NDEs) provide evidence that consciousness exists outside of the body. We speak today with scientist, lucid dreamer and instigator in-chief at the International Association for the Study of Dreams, Robert J. Hoss. Bob shares evidence from his study of over 4000 published NDEs suggesting near universal experiences around death independent of religious or cultural background. Bob then relates his own lucid near death experience which was one of the factors that woke up in him his abiding interest in dreaming. We then talk about Bob's research into the psychological effect of color in both waking life and in dreams. Color often contains concealed emotions in dreams. Bob describes his research with over 4000 dreams from one subject tracking their emotional life with color in dreams. Check out Bob's free Color Questionnaire at DreamScience.org We take a call from Lucille from Cambria who wonders if she only dreams in black and white. Bob quotes studies that suggest we all dream in color and says we can learn to pay attention to the colors that are there. Bob and Katherine talk about what they are most looking forward to about the July Tucson IASD conference.
