Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Katherine Parker, Founder of the Boundless Kids, and Andy Bailey, CEO and Founder of Boundless, who both highlight the growth and development of Boundless Kids, a nonprofit organization teaching children the power of setting and achieving personal goals, having a growth mindset, personal accountability, staying true to the commitments they make to themselves and others, and being proactive rather than reactive to achieve more than they ever thought possible. During the interview, Andy shares how Boundless Kids was an outgrowth of their work with Boundless, which takes high performing adults to new levels of performance through a structured program designed to convert dreams into action. As they helped more adults and couples grow their abilities and live a more purposeful, results-driven Boundless Life, parents asked if they could offer a similar program for their kids. So, Boundless Kids takes their proven Boundless model and a similar approach to help children and change their perspectives. They use a structured program with online elements and one-on-one coaching sessions with a certified Boundless coach. Kids identify their passions, strengths, and interests and set seasonal goals with mid-season check-ins to assess progress and offer guidance to stay on track.Katherine and Andy discuss the Boundless Kids model and share some success stories. They talk about working with underserved communities and their desire to help open access to more children through scholarships, emphasizing the importance of teaching children to take ownership of their lives and careers, setting them up for success in the future. They talk about some of the different ways the community can support their efforts, such as connecting them to local youth serving nonprofits and providing financial contributions to underwrite scholarships for more children to access their services.Katherine and Andy also discuss their new venture, the Boundless Farm, a retreat facility in West Tennessee for learning, growth, and connection. Boundless Farm is a stunning 111-acre property with 10 acres of fully stocked lakes, 40 acres of manicured grounds, and 30 acres of agricultural fields, offering a unique space for leaders, teams, and guests seeking an optimal environment for reflection, collaboration, and rejuvenation. They have already hosted several groups since its opening in December, and they plan to expand their services to include local community connections and nonprofits, and to offer retreats for both adults and children.Visit https://boundlesskids.org to learn more about Boundless Kids. Visit https://boundless.me to learn more about Boundless. Forests hold stories—ancient memories woven into their roots, whispered through their leaves, and carried on the wind. In this special gathering, Katherine Parker invites us into a deeper relationship with the Forest as both a place and a presence. We begin by exploring the connection between Forests and ancestral memory, touching on how these living landscapes hold the echoes of those who came before. Katherine then shares a Forest story, offering a glimpse into the mythic consciousness that has long honored the wisdom of trees. From there, we turn to practice—ways to attune to the intelligence and consciousness of the Forest, to listen rather than simply observe, and to experience the Forest not as separate from us, but as a part of who we are. This session is an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to remember. Join us as we step into the stillness and presence of the Forest together.Katherine Parker, PhD is a Wilderness Rites of Passage Guide and recovering psychologist. Traveling alone can be daunting for some, but for those seeking a transformative experience, Katherine Parker-Magyar's journey through Sri Lanka offers a compelling narrative of adventure, introspection, and cultural immersion. As a seasoned travel writer and enthusiast, her exploration with Souljourn Yoga in this jewel of the Indian Ocean showcases how travel can be a gateway to self-discovery and meaningful connection with local communities. For those yearning to explore new horizons without the confines of conventional tourism, Souljourn Yoga retreats provide a unique blend of yoga practice, cultural immersion, and community engagement. Founded by Jordan Ashley, these retreats are not just about physical exercises but also about contributing positively to the destinations they visit. Each retreat partners with local non-profits, such as the Rosie May Foundation in Sri Lanka, focusing on girls' education and women's empowerment. The Souljourn Yoga retreat in Sri Lanka unfolds over eight days in Hikkaduwa, a scenic coastal town in the southwest. Despite the challenges of reaching Sri Lanka, the retreat begins each day with sun salutations and lakeside swims, catering to both novice and seasoned yoga practitioners alike. The focus isn't solely on physical practice but also on mindful travel and making a positive impact through community partnerships.Visiting Sri Lanka isn't just about exploring its natural beauty; it's also about delving into its cultural tapestry. Full moon ceremonies, such as those observed at temples like Sri Pushparama in Malawenna, offer insights into Buddhism—a philosophy that resonates with the impermanence of life. Engaging with local communities, such as through the Think Pink Sri Lanka program, adds a dimension of social responsibility and cultural exchange to the journey.Central to Souljourn Yoga's philosophy is the idea of leaving a positive impact on the places visited. Partnering with organizations like the Rosie May Foundation, the retreats support local initiatives that empower women and enhance educational opportunities for girls. This commitment transforms the travel experience into a meaningful exchange where participants not only explore but also contribute to sustainable development.Throughout the retreat, yoga serves as a pathway to introspection and self-discovery. Participants are encouraged to look inward, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves while embracing the beauty and challenges of travel. As Jordan Ashley aptly puts it, "We go inward to go outward," emphasizing the transformative power of yoga beyond physical exercise.Katherine Parker-Magyar's journey through Sri Lanka with Souljourn Yoga encapsulates the essence of meaningful travel—a blend of adventure, cultural immersion, and personal growth. Beyond the allure of its landscapes and wildlife, Sri Lanka offers a profound connection to its people and traditions. Learn about what all exciting exhibits will be at the North Atlanta Home Show this weekend at the Gas South Convention Center.  Two Duluth men are facing murder charges in the death of an Atlanta man who died earlier this month from wounds he sustained in a beating that occurred in December. Master Police Officer Hideshi Valle said Bryan Alvarado and Yeison Alvarado have been charged with allegedly killing Raul Diaz-Villalba. Diaz-Villalba was attacked on December 20 and officers found him unconscious and bleeding with multiple lacerations, a swollen face, wounds all over his head and discoloration. The officers provided aid at the scene and Gwinnett fire officials took him to a local hospital. Diaz-Villalba died on January 14 and the Gwinnett Medical Examiner's Office concluded this week that the injuries to his head were the cause of death. The suspects have each been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, robbery and false imprisonment. Gwinnett County Public Schools outpaces the state of Georgia when it comes to the percentage of Asian and Latin-ex teachers it has on its staff, but the percentage of people from those communities who serve in principal positions lags behind the student demographics, a staffing consultant told district leaders on Thursday. The stats were presented as part of a presentation on equity in talent management systems that Alma Advisory Group CEO Monica Rosen made to the Gwinnett school board during a work session. The presentation covered a variety of staffing issues, including diversity of staff and employee retention. Despite the underrepresentation of Asian and Latin-ex in leadership roles in the district, GCPS does outpace the state in representation of both groups in teaching positions. Rosen presented data that showed Asian and Pacific Islander teachers make up 4.12% of teachers in GCPS, compared to 1.49% of teachers statewide. Similarly, Latin-ex teachers make up 5.99% of the GCPS teacher workforce, compared to 2.79% statewide. But, Latin-ex people make up 7.8% of principals in GCPS despite the fact that Latin-ex students are the largest population block in GCPS, making up 34.3% of the student body. Meanwhile, there were virtually no Asian principals in GCPS even though Asian students make up 11.5% of the student population. GCPS does lack behind the state in the percentage of teachers who are Black. That figure is 27.15% statewide, but just 23.59% in GCPS. Black people make up 36.17% of people serving in principal positions while Black students make up 32.17% of the student population. White people hold 53.9% of principal positions and 60.2 percent of teacher positions while white students make up about 17% of the student population. An incredibly thin margin separated Brookwood and North Gwinnett again Saturday night at West Gwinnett Aquatic Center. And for the second straight year, Brookwood emerged as the Gwinnett County champion in girls swimming and diving. The Broncos scored 1,186 points, only 11 ahead of North, which is still seeking its first county title. The Bulldogs were second by only five points at the 2022 county meet. Brookwood maintained its long-running dominance in the meet with its ninth straight county championship and 20th in the past 24 seasons. Brookwood got its scoring off to a nice start thanks to its divers — Chloe Brothers won the county title and teammate Kristen Davis was sixth Saturday morning — then the swimmers did their job later in the evening. Sophomore Hailey Dopson led the way with a win in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.75 seconds, and she followed it with a county meet-record in the 100 backstroke with a first-place swim in 55.06. The old 100 back record was set at 55.22 in 2016 by Mill Creek's Katherine Parker. The Broncos also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.36 with Dopson as the anchor on a relay with teammates Nicole Amike, Sophie Hamilton and Emma Greene. Dopson also was on a runner-up 200 medley relay. Braselton's Community Development department is launching a new volunteer work force to help with town events and welcome visitors. Nicknamed the “Bee-Team,” volunteers will be assigned to welcome visitors and help staff event preparation and/or office tasks. An informational meeting is set for January 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Civic Center, located at 27 East Lake Drive adjacent to the town's parking deck downtown. B-Team members will be asked to complete a brief application, attend an orientation and begin learning local history. For more information, Pinnell can be reached by e-mail at apinnell@braselton.net  Gwinnett police said they are investigating a homicide that appears to be domestic related after a shooting Sunday evening at a Norcross area apartment complex. According to Corporal  Evanko, Gwinnett police responded to a person shot call at Canopy Glen Apartments just after 6 p.m. The incident appeared to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male with a gunshot wound who died from his injuries on scene. Evanko said investigators are talking with a female believed to be related to the incident and the investigation is ongoing. The motive for the shooting is unknown. Gwinnett police are asking anyone who has information to share in the case to contact GCPD detectives or crime stoppers. The new year brought a big change for the Gwinnett Chamber's On Topic series this past week. The first installment of the series in 2023 was held on Wednesday and it marked the introduction of Porter Steel as the series new presenting sponsor. Why is that a big deal? Well, it was the first time in well over a decade that someone other than RocketIT has been the presenting sponsor of the monthly information and lunch series. Porter Steel is a Lilburn-based company that specializes in structured steel and architectural metal for construction projects. Company President Cole Porter said the company is interested in helping the community and it sees sponsoring On Topic on to do that. He also said he sees value in the monthly series, where officials and experts give presentations on a wide array of topics ranging from transportation and schools to economic outlooks. At some point along the ride we've all heard or said the phrase, "It's easy being a kid". But is it really? We think not.The environments for our children are shaping them from the earliest onset of life. On the home front, at daycare, early education, social circles, the list of influences goes on and on and on as we age and become more aware. And that's how we grow, how we learn. But unfortunately, children at large have been left to "figure it out" the hard way without the necessary tooling and strategies to really understand what matters most...themselves. To truly discover and ignite their emotional intelligence, their creativity, their intuition, their trust and beliefs of self, and so much more.So what does it take to help a child become the creator of their destiny and avoid some of the modern pitfalls our youth are experiencing today? Our guest is Katherine Parker, Founder of Boundless Kids/Teens – a program dedicated to helping today's youths envision the future, set goals based on this vision and create a plan to start achieving their goals, one day at a time. Katherine spoke to me Live on the 21st of September 2020 on my Instagram about how she started off her writing career, and how she became successful within a couple of years. I discussed where the initial love for travel started with Katherine, and I spoke to her about some of her transformative travel experiences. Katherine used to be based in New York but moved across to Wyoming during the lockdown. She does state it was temporary. Even though she couldn't travel internationally after March 2020, Katherine travelled across the State on road trips. She spoke to me about how her life was completely different before she started writing about travel. She worked in advertising and knew it wasn't a career path she wanted to continue in. Katherine told me that she started off being a high school reporter, which is where her passion for journalism came from. Katherine talked to me about how you can start writing about anything and everything, whether about fashion, politics etc. and then eventually falling into a topic you want to write about. It's about building that writing portfolio in her eyes. Katherine also discussed with me the need to write objectively as well. She explained that many travel blogs are too subjective, and many bloggers need to start thinking about writing objectively as they can influence people worldwide. She clarifies that there isn't much policing in the blogging industry, leading to one-sided views. Katherine has had her work published in major publications such as Forbes and Tripsavvy. When it comes to travelling, she has been to all four corners of the world. It has been non-stop for the last few years for her. Katherine plans to travel more when the world opens up again. Katherine is a travel columnist for Forbes, and TripSavvy; and her work has appeared in many publications like Architectural Digest, The Week, The Daily Beast, and Business Insider, and more.Katherine Parker Magyar is a New York-based writer with a focus on travel, culture, and adventure—and a preference for far-flung-locales. Katherine is a travel columnist for Forbes, as well as the Caribbean expert for TripSavvy; her work has also appeared in Architectural Digest, The Week, The Daily Beast, and Business Insider, among other publications. She has traveled to 6 continents, 63 countries, and all 50 states in pursuit of a good story.   Most passionate about Today, I’m in lockdown. However, I’ve had amazing experiences while I’ve been traveling pretty much non-stop over the past two years. I visited 41 countries in 23 months, and I saw so much and moved so quickly, it almost felt normal. Being forced to slow down and take stock of everything I’ve seen, what I took away from everything ... it has been a fortune to be forced inside and reflect. I tracked every single travel experience that I had. It helps give me a broader, nuanced perspective on the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met. I think that traveling is automatically like a force for good. There is a quote by Mark Twain: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness…” He said: “Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” When I was traveling, I felt like I was constantly getting affirmation of the goodness of society and people. I started scrapbooking. I took all the photos, the letters people wrote to me, the stories I’ve been written, and started compiling them and reliving those experiences. I think now more than ever, people need stories about the good that is happening in the world. It’s easy to be pessimistic and fall into desperation about everything that is happening now. So, what I started to do, and what I’m most passionate about today, is compiling all the stories of the last two years into a book. I had such amazing experiences. I felt history come alive for me and I felt so inspired by it. I like to explore. Other travel writers told me, “You need to focus. You can’t go for only one morning, or only for a week to Kenya. You need two weeks, or you need at least 10 days to go to China. You can’t go to China for only five days.” But I disagree. At the end of the day, you have only one life. If you keep waiting to have the perfect time, and the perfect amount of money, and the perfect schedule, you’ll never go. Katherine’s career and story I hope my story inspires people who think, ‘Maybe it’s too late for me.’ I had always wanted to be a writer. I just love writing. I feel it comes naturally to me. Travel is another passion of mine. I always wanted to share my travel experiences with people. I’ll tell the story of how I started my entrepreneurial journey. In college, I was an English major and I loved it. After college, I wanted to become a teacher and a professor. I wanted to become a poetry professor, an American Poetry professor. I didn’t want to start teaching right away after college, so I got a job in advertising. It was 2009, at the end of the recession, and it wasn’t easy to find a job. That was the first step, and I think that every step along the way makes sense ultimately. There were advantages to working in “corporate America” and to making money, but I wasn’t passionate about my job. I guess that’s why I wasn’t so good at it. I was afraid that I wouldn’t reach my dream of becoming a writer. After a year, I was fired because, as I said, I wasn’t passionate about it and wasn’t good at doing it. I applied to my master's degree in English Literature. Of course, everyone told me, “This is so ‘down.’ Why should you do it?” But I knew that this was the

In this episode, I have the pleasure of chatting with the multi-talented actress/writer/composer Nora Kirkpatrick. Nora's many acting credits include: "Greek," "The Office," "CSI," "Dorm Life," "Big Sur," "Growth," "John From Cincinnati" and "Happy Place," just to name a few. Besides acting in film and TV and composing scores for films, Nora also plays accordion, keyboards and sings in the Grammy-winning, gold record-producing band Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros. The band's third album is coming out this May. You can currently see Nora as Esther on "The Office" on NBC. Nora was a delight to interview. We talked about everything from accordion muscles to touring with Mumford and Sons to how farming experience can come in handy when guest starring on a hit network show.   NORA KIRKPATRICK'S BIO NORA KIRKPATRICK grew up in the rural Midwest, and studied in Spain, England and Africa before graduating from UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film and Television in 2007. She has been working steadily in both TV and film since her graduation, most recently playing Esther, Dwight’s new love interest from the farm, on the final season of NBC’s The Office. She’s had recurring roles on several other shows, including ABC’s Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23, ABC Family’s Greek (as the uptight Panhellenic president, Katherine Parker), and on HBO’s John From Cincinnati. Active in the indie film world as well, Nora has a supporting role in the film Big Sur, starring Kate Bosworth, that screened at the Sundance Film Festival this year. She has two other films coming out in 2013: Sexy Evil Genius, starring Seth Green, and a voodoo thriller, Bayou. Nora is heavily involved in the sketch and improv world, often performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. She also co-wrote and starred in two Funny or Die produced and funded webisodes entitled “Happy Place.” On the musical side, Nora has been playing accordion, keyboards and singing in the folk-rock group Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros since its inception in 2009. The band has appeared on Letterman twice, Jimmy Kimmel twice and on Conan three times. Their first album yielded a gold record, Rolling Stone listed the second album in its top 10 for 2012 and the third album comes out in May 2013. Earlier this month, the band won a GRAMMY with Mumford & Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show for best long-form music video, the film Big Easy Express, that also won the audience award at the SXSW Film Festival.  The band has played Coachella, Lollapalooza (both in Chicago and South America), Bonnaroo, SXSW, Newport Folk Festival, Outside Lands, among others, and many European music festivals. It curated a series of sold-out concerts and performance art in the Old Vic Tunnels in London at the request of Old Vic artistic director Kevin Spacey. In her free time, Nora also writes songs and film scores. Her scores have appeared in several short films (Peter at the End, Elliot and others) and she wrote and composed original songs for the upcoming feature film Never, starring Zelda Williams.

On Feb 18th, 2009 a Press Conference was held at the UNC School of Law to present the findings of a joint study on the 287(g) program. A federal law granting local police and sheriffs the power to act as immigration officials when faced with dangerous criminals or terrorists has instead created a climate of racial profiling and community insecurity, according to researchers at the UNC School of Law Immigration and Human Rights Clinic. The team of law students, led by Deborah Weissman, Reef C. Ivey II Distinguished Professor of Law and Director of Clinical Programs at UNC School of Law, and Katherine Parker and Rebecca Headen, lawyers with the ACLU in North Carolina Legal Foundation, released a report on the 287(g) program in North Carolina titled The Policies and Politics of Local Immigration Enforcement Law on Feb. 18.
