Send us Fan MailThis week on The Cultural Curriculum Chat™ Podcast, I sat down with leadership strategist and workplace culture expert Ivonne Furneaux for a powerful conversation about something many organizations feel — but rarely name.Ghost gaps. These are the invisible divides that quietly undermine trust, engagement, and momentum in teams. They show up in miscommunication. In assumptions. In leadership that says one thing but operates another way.And they cost organizations more than they realize.Ivonne brings decades of executive leadership experience to this conversation. But what I appreciated most wasn't just her corporate insight — it was her human-centered lens. She reminds us that transformation doesn't stick unless people feel informed, involved, inspired, and invested. And that's not just corporate language. That's cultural leadership. In this episode, we discuss:What ghost gaps are and how to identify themWhy most change initiatives failThe shift from mentorship to sponsorshipHow leaders can communicate with clarity and careWhat trust actually looks like in actionIf you lead a classroom, a nonprofit, a school district, a boardroom — or even your own household — this conversation will stretch you.Learn more about our guest here: https://www.ivonnefurneaux.com/ Support the showCOME SAY Hey!!Instagram: @cultrallyjebeh_Facebook: @JebehCulturalConsultingPinterest: @Jebeh Cultural Consulting LinkedIn: @Jebeh Cultural ConsultingLeave a Review on our Podcast! 207. Invisible Divides in the Workplace (with Ivonne Furneaux)   In this episode of The Visibility Factor podcast, Susan's guest is Ivonne Furneaux. She is a keynote speaker, workplace strategist and founder of emPower Up Consulting, where she helps organizations lead through change and close the invisible gaps that undermine trust, engagement and performance. With more than 20 years of experience inside complex, global organizations—including Target, UnitedHealth Group, WeightWatchers, OfficeMax and Anywhere Real Estate—Ivonne has led enterprise communications, employee experience, culture, change and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion during periods of transformation, uncertainty and growth. Grounded in both lived experience and formal training, Ivonne brings a human-centered approach to culture and communication. Using her proprietary “Ghost Gaps” concept and 4I Framework, she equips leaders and employees alike with actionable strategies to build more connected, engaged workplaces and careers. Ivonne Furneaux has a diverse background in corporate communications and DEI. The concept of 'ghost gaps' highlights invisible divides in the workplace. Workplace identity significantly impacts employee engagement and experience. Visibility in the workplace is crucial for connection and engagement. Organizational culture is shaped by the actions of all employees, not just leadership. The 4I framework can help organizations address ghost gaps effectively. Earning buy-in for change requires appealing to both hearts and minds. Sponsorship is more impactful than mentorship for career advancement. Transparency in communication builds trust within organizations. Investing in employees at all levels fosters loyalty and engagement. This episode contains: - The Quest for the Holy Whale, where we recount our dramatic (and entirely fictional) journey around Scotland which we performed for a whisky night in 2025; - Mystery Whisky, where we bring Tassie peat to the party with some Furneaux; - Head to Fresh Meat Head, where we bust open not one, but two bottles of Canadian Distillery, Shelter Point; - Whisky Would You Rather, where it's Duckett vs Dans, - A discussion about Iconic Tassie Distilleries; and - A product review of a rather unexpected item with whisky as a main ingredient All this and more (including speculation on what the Tin Man really lacked). Building a Reserve Fund

First Day Podcast

In this research-powered, globe-spanning episode of The First Day from The Fund Raising School, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D. welcomes Craig Furneaux, PhD to unpack the how, why, and how-much of building a reserve fund for nonprofit organizations. With his classic Aussie warmth and academic rigor, Craig takes us behind the scenes of nonprofit finance in Australia, where the accounting system doesn't distinguish between sectors and the idea of building a reserve fund gets complicated fast. It's not just about stacking cash, too much in the bank can actually hurt your fundraising case. And if you're not careful, you could end up with the regulatory equivalent of a boomerang to the head. Dr. Furneaux and his co-author Dr. Renee Irwin went full Sherlock Holmes on this topic, digging into five years of nonprofit income data across multiple sectors and sizes. The result? A treasure trove of insights and a fresh take on the old “three-month rule” for reserves. Spoiler alert: three months might work for medium-sized organizations, but smaller ones? You're gonna need more, closer to six months, to weather the storm. Large organizations can squeak by with less, thanks to their flexibility and larger safety nets. The key word here? Resiliency. Whether it's currency drops, funding cuts, or another round of HR legislation chaos, reserve funds are the emergency kit every nonprofit needs before the next metaphorical (or literal) hurricane hits. But it's not just about the math, it's about the message. Communicating the need for reserves to donors requires storytelling finesse. Craig suggests analogies that hit home, like prepping for a natural disaster. "We're not hoarding, we're being prudent stewards," he explains. The goal? Helping donors understand that a healthy reserve isn't a luxury, it's a lifeline. That means it's up to you, fundraiser friend, to show them why some unspent dollars today could be the reason your doors stay open tomorrow. So how much is just right? There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but this episode gives you the tools, and the evidence, to figure it out. Whether you're running a tiny arts nonprofit or a sprawling health system, the research can help you build a solid case for reserves. Start small, aim high, and remember: it's not about fear, it's about foresight. As always, The Fund Raising School is here to equip you with knowledge, strategy, and just the right amount of inspiration (and maybe a little financial jargon translated into plain English). Because resilience isn't just a buzzword, it's your mission's best friend in a crisis.

Dave is a co-founder and investor in a number of innovative companies, such as Blaze (acquired by Akamai), Cybersaint (a leading Cyber Risk Management company), Greenlight Biosciences (EPA approved breakthrough RNA bio-chemical platform for clean food), Lufa Farms (a leading agricultural technology company), Lumicell (an FDA approved platform for Cancer therapy) and Virsec (a breakthrough cyber protection company). He has been a driving force behind many breakthrough technology, health, and food companies as a founder, operator, investor, and active board leader. Some notable examples include Watchfire (acquired by IBM), Skystone (acquired by Cisco Systems), Application Security (acquired by SingTel) and Aironet (acquired by Cisco Systems). Earlier in his career, Dave founded and led Kodiak Venture Partners, which went on to invest in and build companies such as Appnexus (acquired by AT&T), Channel Advisor (NYSE: ECOM), Extreme (acquired by Microchip), Enfora (acquired by Sierra Wireless), IM Logic (acquired by Symantec) and WHERE (acquired by Paypal). David believes, and we at FOX agree, that families are uniquely positioned and endowed to create, build, and innovate by putting their family capital, their entrepreneurial spirit, and creativity to work to solve the big problems our world is facing. He talks about why he has this conviction, how he sees it play out today, and why and how families play this key role in innovation and building new solutions and products. The topic of our conversation with Dave is encapsulated in a relatively new term: “Builder Capitalism”. Dave defines Builder Capitalism for our audience, describes the tenets of this investment philosophy, and outlines the mindset and skills it requires. He also paints the picture of how Builder Capitalism is manifested in reality through the activities and behaviors of entrepreneurs. Dave offers many practical tips and suggestions to the different market players who are interested in Builder Capitalism, starting with what investors need to know or do if they want to participate in this movement and allocate their capital (financial and non-financial) to Builder Capitalist ventures. He also provides his advice to entrepreneurs and founders who share this belief system and see themselves and their startups as members of this Builder Capitalism economy. Finally, Dave offers his insights into the resources available to both investors and founders to become better educated about Builder Capitalism and to be better connected into the emerging ecosystem of this rising entrepreneurial movement. This is a must-hear conversation with one of the leading thought leaders, practitioners, and innovators in the Builder Capitalism movement, who is also a family principal and leader of his own multigenerational entrepreneurial family.

In this episode of Retail Corner, listen to Matthew Furneaux, Director of Location Intelligence, Loqate provides insights on understanding consumer behavior and current trends in retail. You will listen to our host talking with Matthew on the following points. You have experience working with some of the largest e-commerce and retailers globally including Nordstrom, Sephora, Kohl's, Ralph Lauren, and Michaels. As these and other brands navigate the third holiday season impacted by pandemic, economic and other factors, what are some key trends you're seeing for how shoppers are spending and their behaviors between in-store and online shopping Your team recently published its annual holiday shopping survey - what are some of the key trends impacting retailers today that really indicate a new normal has been established for consumer shopping behaviors? It seems like from the study that on-time delivery is important to consumers, and impacts their relationship with a brand or retailer. What does this say about the importance of delivery and shipping, and what steps can retailers take to ensure that they meet expectations If 52% of American consumers report that a retailer's availability of products impacts their loyalty, what do you think this says about retail customer loyalty and CX programs? What can retailers learn and apply to incorporate the importance of product availability as a bigger role in customer loyalty programs? Are there additional steps brands can take to make this area shine for them in light of ongoing supply chain issues? In general, how should brands and retailers approach the holidays as they take steps to win customer loyalty during this season, and continue to drive purchases all year? About our guest Matthew Furneaux: Matthew Furneaux is a location technology veteran with over 20 years of experience in helping global businesses reach their customers globally. As director of location intelligence at Loqate (https://www.loqate.com/), a GBG company, Furneaux is responsible for strategy and innovation. He is also a retail and eCommerce expert and while at Loqate, has worked with leading eCommerce brands including Nordstrom, Sephora, Kohl's, Ralph Lauren and Michaels. Welcome to The Legendary Bullet Podcast, stories around the Royal Enfield Bullet, the world's oldest motorcycle in continuous production. In this first episode, Gordon May speaks to round-the-world Bullet adventurer, Jacqui Furneaux. Hailing from Bristol in the UK, Jacqui spent 7 years riding her 500 Bullet around the world, commencing her life-changing journey at the age of 50. Author of the acclaimed book, Hit The Road Jac!, she shares some of her incredible experiences with us as well as gives valuable tips for solo motorcycle travel, especially for women. Unveiled 90 years ago in 1932, the legendary Bullet has stood the test of time as a sports bike, a trials bike, a commuter, a vehicle for exploration, the basis of tens of thousands of custom builds, and an ally of the armed forces. In India, it has been the king of the road since 1955 and unquestionably laid solid foundations for Royal Enfield as we know it today. In recognition of its unprecedented endurance as the longest motorcycle model in continuous production, we will be talking to people to whom the Bullet means everything over the coming months. They are explorers; restorers and mechanics; customizers and members of the Bullet riding community. If you enjoy this podcast, be sure to like, add us to your favourites, or even leave a review. It's New Year's Eve, 1997, and 17-year-old Olivia Hope is getting ready for a party at Furneaux Lodge, a beautiful old residence that sits at the head of one of the bays and coves that make up The Marlborough Sounds. A picturesque holiday spot on the northern end of New Zealand's south island where the bush meets the sea. The lodge is only accessible by boat, so Olivia, her older sister, and their friends have booked a chartered yacht called Tamarack that will deliver them to the celebrations after an afternoon basking in the sun. Furneaux is the place to be on New Years and the local teenagers are getting ready to dance away the night with 15-hundred other partygoers. Over in Punga Cove, just across the inlet, Ben Smart is partying the afternoon away with mates. He too has plans to join the fun at Furno and hitches a ride over on a boat as the party gets started. But what happens to Ben and Olivia after the clock strikes midnight, will become one of the most high-profile and hotly contested murder investigations New Zealand has ever seen. “We've never been so busy,” says Nick Furneaux, a digital forensic investigator who specialises in cryptocurrency crime.Furneaux, our guest on the latest New Money Review podcast, works with law enforcement bodies and large corporates around the world, focusing on ‘the challenge of investigating crimes involving cryptocurrency'.Listen to the podcast to hear Nick and New Money Review editor Paul Amery discuss:How cryptocurrency created new avenues for crime“What bitcoin did was to provide a method of transaction that at its core is anonymous. This has given the criminal a new method to mix and hide funds. It's more challenging for law enforcement to deal with.” “70-80 percent of arrested criminals have cryptocurrency wallets on their phones or computers. Our phone rings off the hook with calls from people who have lost money in scams, frauds and phishing attacks. On the ground, we've never been so busy.”“A sizeable percentage of bitcoin traffic—high teens—comes through the TOR network. One has to ask why. I'd suggest that the number of people using TOR for libertarian reasons is small in comparison to the number of criminals using TOR to obfuscate the movement of funds.”How criminals launder cryptocurrency“There are people who are willing to launder crypto for you. They'll just charge a huge percentage and give you the cash.”The continuing frictions between cryptocurrency and banks“We had to buy £500 of ethereum the other day for a class I'm teaching on DeFi and decentralised exchanges—the bank froze my business bank account until I could explain why. The banks are very twitchy with any sort of crypto movement.”Why retail investors need to practise self-defence“If you go back five years, an awful lot of the money in crypto was criminal. Now there's a lot of retail money. And people are going to want to deal with companies that will make restitution if things go wrong.”“If you're going to get into cryptocurrency, make sure you understand the technology. Make sure you know the difference between a public and private key, and what a bitcoin address is compared to the private key that controls it. If you cannot understand that, do not get into crypto—you will just have ‘victim' tattooed on your forehead.”The global challenge of solving cryptocurrency crimes“I don't know how we solve the international issue. We've got countries that don't care, and other countries that don't have the people or the funds to train their law enforcement and legislators. We get calls from police forces around the world who can't afford the blockchain forensic tools.”Why ethereum, DeFi and NFTs are the new frontier of crypto fraud“The biggest issue we are seeing criminally is what we generically term ‘crypto 2.0'—the ethereum blockchain with all of its tokens, and then the DeFi contracts. If a criminal stakes money into a DeFi contract and does so-called yield farming, they are earning clean money.”“We're seeing art fraud associated with non-fungible tokens (NFTs). You take a picture you own to auction, buy it from yourself for $100k, pay the commission, then put it back up for sale for $60k and sell it to a third party who thinks it's cheap.”
