Send us a textMeet the architect behind American trail running's most influential collegiate program. Josh Eberly, head coach of Western Colorado University's trail running team, has created something truly unique in the running world: the only dedicated collegiate trail running program in the United States. What began as a small experiment has evolved into a powerhouse that's reshaping how young runners transition from high school competition to mountain athletics. Through his decade of leadership, Eberly has mentored some of the biggest names in American trail running—Cole Campbell, Kieran Nay, Brian Whitfield, and others who've gone on to professional careers with teams like Adidas Terrex. But what makes Western's program special isn't just its elite output. Eberly has created an inclusive environment where athletes of all abilities can thrive, united by their love of mountains and trails rather than strictly performance metrics. "It's not all about creating the next professional," he explains. "We have athletes with different goals and ambitions. They love the work ethic, they love the trails, they love the mountains."The program blends structured training with adventure, taking athletes to iconic locations like the Grand Canyon, Leadville's 14ers, and the San Juan Mountains. These experiences reinforce why many chose trail running over traditional track programs—connection with nature and the joy of exploration. With support from Adidas Terrex providing gear and opportunities, Western's athletes can focus on developing as both runners and humans. As trail running grows in popularity, Western's unique model raises fascinating questions about the future of collegiate athletics. Could we see more universities developing similar programs? For now, Eberly continues refining his vision, balancing his own competitive career while guiding the next generation of mountain athletes in the high-altitude playground of Gunnison, Colorado.Follow Josh on IG - @runsleepdesign Follow James on IG - @jameslaurielloFollow The Steep Stuff Podcast on IG - @runsleepdesign Check out Ultimate Direction for all your hydration solutions needs, use code steepstuffpod for 25% off your cart !

Eli Hemming is a professional runner for Adidas Terrex from Kremmling, Colorado. Eli is maybe my greatest competitor of this 2024: we shared the podium at OCC in Chamonix, where he was first and I was second, so I absolutely wanted to have him on the podcast at some point. We're good friends in life and great enemies during competitions, and we both think this is the best way to show our mutual respect as athletes and competitors: offering the best we're capable of to each other. In this conversation we talk about Eli's life and training with her wife Tabor, in their ranch on the mountains of Colorado, his background as an elite triathlete, becoming a professional trail runner, his upcoming debut in the 50m distance at JFK 50 this weekend and much more.

Yngvild Kaspersen, Toni McCann and Dani Moreno are professional trail athletes for Adidas Terrex and respectively CCC 2023 winner, OCC 2023 winner and third place finisher at OCC 2022. Yngvild, Toni and Dani are currently in Auburn for a short training camp on the Western States trails, so I thought it would be fun to catch up and see how they're doing, how their training is going, how they support each other, who's mostly in charge of cooking, who makes the best coffee, and much more. As endurance athletes, we don't always get to share our training with other people, but when we do, that's where the magic happens. ____________________________ Follow @vert.run on IG Download our app and sign up to our training plans on vert.run You can send us a message with any questions for us or for our guests! https://anchor.fm/vertrun/message Francesco's links: Instagram | Twitter | Strava | Website

Kimi Schreiber is a professional trail runner, a journalist and a podcaster from Germany. She runs for Adidas Terrex. In this episode, we chat about running, training and trail running media, but the main topic of our conversation is probably authenticity: the courage to be ourselves and show other people what we really are, not what we pretend to be. In a world where success is so often tied to performance, where the comparison game of social media causes much more mental stress than we'd like to admit, where we're constantly exposed to criticism and judgement, I found Kimi's reflections particularly valuable and extremely relatable. This is really one of the episodes of running long that I've enjoyed the most. ____________________________ Follow @vert.run on IG Download our app and sign up to our training plans on vert.run You can send us a message with any questions for us or for our guests! https://anchor.fm/vertrun/message Francesco's links: Instagram | Twitter | Strava | Website

Jeshurun Small is a pro trail runner for Adidas TERREX living in Boulder, CO. Jeshurun popped on my radar after his 2nd place finish at the Canyons 50k in April where he gave all-time great Hayden Hawks a run for his money at the North American UTMB Major for 50k. Then in August, Jeshurun had an even bigger breakthrough with a 5th place at OCC -- the UTMB World final of the 50k distance. Top-5 in the world and top-American at only 25 years old. We talk all about Jeshurun's background. We didn't know this before we started, but apparently we just talked to the only person to podium at Marathon de Sables, UTMB, and Western States, where he just won a few weeks ago with the 4th-fastest time ever. And to think that it all started with a bet. Tom Evans is an Adidas Terrex athlete and no doubt, one of the best ultrarunners in the world right now, throwing down incredible performances on some of the toughest courses in the game. We talk about how he got into running, why he drinks Red Bull before, during, and after his races, and how he's loving the new carbon-plated trail racing shoe coming from Adidas.Follow Tom on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tomevansultra/Shop Adidas Terrex: https://bit.ly/SHOP-ADIDAS-TERREX

Welcome to episode 166 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We have a new edition of Gear Talk with Annie and Brooke of the Swimrun Labs this week. In this episode we do a deep dive into the shoe that we can't stop recommending: the Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra Trail. We geek out on the shoe as well as talk about the other shoes in the Terrex line that we have tried and rank it all at the end with everyone's favorite Pull Buoy Rankings. It was unanimous that we loved this shoe. It was light and responsive, a non-issue in the water, and even allowed for prancing. Five pull buoys were awarded by everyone and we can't recommend these shoes enough.Enjoy! That's it for this week's show. What if there was a dedicated event series where brands like Hoka, Salomon, North Face, and Adidas Terrex had the opportunity to showcase the strengths of their teams and exclusively compete against each other across the primary mountain ultra trail running distances? In this episode, I am joined by Dani Moreno, as well as frequent co-hosts Brett Hornig and Leah Yingling, to reflect on Dani's idea for a regular "Battle of the Brands" in our sport.
