Cathy Scott is a 23-year journalism veteran and true-crime author who has written 12 nonfiction books. Best known for penning the biographies of rappers Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls and onetime drug kingpin Freeway Rick Ross, her latest books are: The Crime Book, a guide to criminology that explores the most infamous cases of all time; Murder of a Mafia Daughter, about the journalist and mob daughter alleged to have been killed by New York millionaire Robert Durst; and The Millionaire's Wife, about the death of New York businessman George Kogan in a hit-for-hire in daylight on Manhattan's upper east side. Scott's work, for which she has received more than a dozen journalism awards and national book honors, has appeared in TIME-Life books, The New York Times Magazine, George Magazine, New York Post, The Christian Science Monitor, The Associated Press, Reuters, San Diego Union-Tribune and Las Vegas Sun. Scott is a regular blogger for Psychology Today, covering forensics and evidence, and a former contributing blogger on Forbes. Twenty-seven years after Tupac Shakur was murdered on a Las Vegas street, a local man has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who has long admitted being in the car from which the fatal shots were fired, was arrested in Henderson. Prosecutors say that 27 years ago he was the “on-ground, on-site commander” in a gang conflict, and that he ordered the shooting. Today, host Dayvid Figler dives into the news with author Cathy Scott who wrote the popular true crime biography “The Killing of Tupac Shakur.” Scott explains Davis' connection to Tupac and why it took this long to make an arrest despite a 2019 memoir placing Davis in the car. On Christmas Eve of 2000, Los Angeles police were called to the home of journalist and author Susan Berman. Susan’s neighbors had become worried when they noticed that her back door was open, and that her dogs were running loose in their Benedict Canyon neighborhood. Inside the home, police found the body of 55-year-old Berman, who had been killed by a single bullet wound to the back of the head. Police initially suspected that Susan Berman, the daughter of Las Vegas mob boss Davie Berman, had been the victim of a hit. But the case went cold, and it wasn’t until fifteen years later that police arrested and charged the first suspect in her murder: Susan’s long-time friend, Robert Durst. Because suburban Denver isn’t exactly cheap, Al decided to advertise for a tenant - sharing his residence at 2002 South Helena Street. The home was too big for him and he had a basement apartment he left unused. 4. Vanessa Bodden It was 1989, the Bodden family was getting ready to celebrate the holidays. On December 14th, Vanessa Bodden (19) was sitting at the front porch in her cousin’s home, across from theirs, in New Orleans. Between 8-9 P.M., two neighborhood boys came up and spoke with Vanessa. 3. Stacey Stites Bastrop County, Texas is an idyllic rural getaway that’s got photogenic pine tree forests where most movies and shows are filmed. It was the early morning of April 23, 1996, Stacey Stites (19) had failed to show up for her job. Her co-workers know her for being punctual. Despite being young, Stacey was engaged to marry a police officer, Jimmy Fennell. The two had been sharing an apartment. On the morning of her disappearance, she drove Fennell’s red pickup, leaving her home at around 3:30 A.M. 2. Quadruple Murder It was November 2, 2015, when four bodies inside a home in Pendleton, South Carolina were discovered. The victims were a married couple, Michael (59) and Cathy Scott (60), along with their mothers, Barbara (80) - Michael’s mother - and Violet Taylor (82) - Cathy’s mother. 1. David Maust Born in Connelsville, Pennsylvania, David Edward Maust had a rough childhood. His father left his mother when he was 7 years old. Both his parents also had their own issues. Maust’s father was orphaned when he was 12 while his mother was diagnosed as a psychotic. By the time he was 9 years old, his mother had David confined to a mental institution. According to her, David tried to set fire to his younger brother’s bed and also tried to drown him. But the social worker in the case described the mother as being “narcissistic, disturbed, psychotic and needy.” In the end, his mother admitted he simply didn’t want him.

But halfway through her childhood, dream exploded. Susan's father died without warning during a routine surgery. Next, Susie Berman's mother died by her own hand the next year when she overdosing on drugs. Susie was whisked away from the only home she'd ever known, parentless and living with an uncle and his family and sent away to boarding school. Fast forward to college where Susan met her soul mate, Robert Durst. They became best friends and each other's confidants. Durst went to work for his wealthy father at the Durst Organization in Manhattan while Susan became a journalist, writing about women's cultural issues for newspapers and magazines. She followed Durst to New York, where he married the beautiful Kathie McCormack.
