THE WEEK OF TRINITY VII - THURSDAYLESSON: PSALM 33:8-22“I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat; and if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come a long way.” Mark 8:2-3What a friend we have in Jesus! He is even concerned about the welfare of those despicable stomachs of ours. Our hopes must be aroused, and we must certainly find comfort in Christ's words regarding the multitude on this occasion. They have been waiting upon Him for three days with nothing to eat, and Christ is determined to meet their needs. Here you see that all those who cling steadfastly to God's Word are fed by God Himself. Here we have an example of the true nature and power of faith; it flows solely from God's Word.Hence, my dear friends, let us really make a beginning of believing. Unbelief is the overall reason for all the sin and vice which has gained the upper hand in all social ranks in our day. How does it come about that there are so many silly women and rogues everywhere, so many traitors, thieves, robbers, usurers, murderers, and those who have ecclesiastical livings for sale? All this results from unbelief. All these people form their judgements on human reason alone. Reason follows nothing but what it can see, and what it cannot see it cannot comprehend. And so, reason cannot comprehend how ultimately, by refusing to place its trust in God through faith, it must end in self-despair in the presence of so many rascals and scoundrels. This is what results where men allow reasons to assume all controls and shut out faith in God.SL 11:1371 (13-14)PRAYER: Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things, graft in our hearts true love of Your name. Increase in us true religion, nourish us with true goodness, and, of Your great mercy, ever keep us in the same, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.Editor's note: No American Edition (AE) equivalent for today's sermon excerpt exists at the time of this publication. For an alternate English translation of this sermon, see Lenker, Church Postil—Gospels, 4:202-210.

Normally, when generating a PDF, I would just inline the CFML code inside the CFDocument tag-body; and, I'd use the CFDocumentItem tag with type="pagebreak" to create page-breaks. Which begs the question: if I'm using an externalized HTML source file, how do I create page-breaks? It turns out, since the CFDocument tag supports some CSS, we can use the page-break-before property to generate page-breaks without the CFDocumentItem tag in Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4045-creating-page-breaks-in-cfdocument-without-using-cfdocumentitem-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-7-47.htm Blog - Ben Nadel - CFSaveContent Trim And Append Attributes In Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47The other day on the Lucee Dev forum, I proposed that we add a file attribute to the CFSaveContent tag in Lucee CFML. And, as I was writing that proposal, I pulled up the docs page for the CFSaveContent tag; which is when I was surprised to see that Lucee actually offers two additional attributes on that tag: trim and append. I had no idea that these existed. So, I wanted to put together a quick demo (for myself) in Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4044-cfsavecontent-trim-and-append-attributes-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-7-47.htm Blog - Adam Cameron - Setting up a MariaDB JDBC datasource in ColdFusion 2021 in Application.cfcThis is how I needed to set my datasource in Application.cfc to get ColdFusion 2021 to connect to MariaDB. I'm writing this because I could not - for the life of me - find this information in any one place in the docs. Nor could I find it anywhere else via Google. I have pieced this together from various sources (including Lucee docs, which were more helpful than the Adobe ColdFusion documentation), and want to put it in one place for my own future reference, or should anyone else need to know how to set up a MariaDB datasouce in ColdFusion using their JDBC driver. The params should also work for any other JDBC datasource.https://blog.adamcameron.me/2021/05/setting-up-mariadb-jdbc-datasource-in.html Blog - Ray Camden - Updating (and Supporting) URL Parameters with Vue.jsToday's article is something that's been kicking around in my head for a few months now, and seeing a recent article (Update URL query parameters as you type in the input using JavaScript) encouraged me to finally get around to writing it. The basic idea is to make it easier for a person to share or bookmark the current state of an application. Let's start with a basic example.https://www.raymondcamden.com/2021/05/08/updating-and-supporting-url-parameters-with-vuejs Blog - Ben Nadel - Collecting HTML Class Name Attributes In Template Rendering In Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47The other day, I was updating a CFML template to include some conditional CSS class names in an ordered list. And, by the time I was done, the CFML looked a hot mess with several ternary operators all being interpolated into one class="" attribute. And, as I sat there, wallowing in the shame of such ugly looking code, it hit me like a bolt of lightening: Angular already solved this problem so elegantly with the NgClass directive that applies dynamic class names based on a set of conditionals. The same exactly thing should be quite doable in Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4043-collecting-html-class-name-attributes-in-template-rendering-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-7-47.htm Blog - Ben Nadel - Using Both SrcFile And CFDocumentItem In The Same CFDocument Tag In Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47At InVision, we generate a surprising number of PDF documents. For the most part, the CFDocument tag in Lucee CFML just works. But, sometimes, PDF generation eats-up all the RAM and an OOM (Out of Memory) error is thrown. As such, I'm always on the lookout for ways to tweak the PDF generation process to see if I can consume fewer resources. One idea that I had was to pre-generate the HTML file instead of just rendering the HTML content within the CFDocument tag-body. But, I wasn't sure if I could combine the concept of the srcfile attribute with the child-tag, CFDocumentItem. As such, I wanted to try it out in Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4042-using-both-srcfile-and-cfdocumentitem-in-the-same-cfdocument-tag-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-7-47.htm Blog - Ben Nadel - Validating And Documenting Complex Object Structures With CFParam In Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47At InVision, we generate our transactional emails by including a CFML template into a buffer; and then, using that buffer as the body attribute of a CFMail tag. And, since the definition of that template feels somewhat "far away" from the context in which it is being consumed, I've gotten into the habit of parameterizing the template variables using CFParam tags. This way, it's intensely obvious which variables are being used in the template; and, if I accidentally forget to define a variable during refactoring, the template will blow-up when I go to test it. Part of what makes this easy to do is the fact that the CFParam tag can validate complex object structures. I don't often use it this way, so I thought it would be interesting to share in Lucee CFML 5.3.7.47.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4041-validating-and-documenting-complex-object-structures-with-cfparam-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-7-47.htm Blog - Charlie Arehart - Adobe CF certification now only US$149, including many hours of trainingIf you may not have heard the news or noticed it on the Adobe CF Certification page, the price is now listed as only US$149.https://coldfusion.adobe.com/2021/05/adobe-cf-certification-now-us149-including-many-hours-training/ CFML JobsSeveral positions available on https://www.getcfmljobs.com/Listing over 120 ColdFusion positions from 52 companies across 90 locations in 5 Countries since Dec 1st.Full-Time - Coldfusion/SUNCORP INSURANCE at Sydney NSW - Australia Posted May 11https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/australia/ColdfusionSUNCORP-INSURANCE-at-Sydney-NSW/11267 Full-Time - Coldfusion Developer at Vancouver, BC - Canada Posted May 08https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/canada/Coldfusion-Developer-at-Vancouver-BC/11266 Full-Time - Coldfusion at Bengaluru, Karnataka - India Posted May 07https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/india/Coldfusion-at-Bengaluru-Karnataka/11265 Full-Time - ColdFusion Developer (Secret clearance) at Chantilly, VA - United States Posted May 05https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/united-states/ColdFusion-Developer-Secret-clearance-at-Chantilly-VA/11256 ForgeBox Module of the WeekFacebook Conversions - CFML by Matthew ClementeA CFML wrapper for the Facebook Conversions API. ADVENT WEEK TWODecember 6, 2020Embrace the WildernessMark 1:1-8… the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,” Mark 1:3What a year. The verse above speaks to me right now, even more than in times past, because I have found myself crying out a lot lately. We are surrounded by racial brutality, a world heath crisis, political divisiveness, economic injustice, and social isolation. This year has certainly felt like a wilderness to me.The author of Mark’s gospel opens by echoing Isaiah 40:3 and tapping an experience residing deep in the psyche of the hearers—the wilderness. Mark’s proclamation would have instantly called to memory the narrative when the Israelites were led out of slavery in Egypt, by way of the wilderness, toward a promised land. As well, there was Moses who headed to the wilderness to run away from his past: there was also Hagar who negotiated with God in the wilderness to ensure the survival of her son.So how does the wilderness experience seem to operate within most of these biblical tales? The wilderness elicits soul-searching. The wilderness requires acute focus. The wilderness clarifies mission and identity. As well, in each instance, the wilderness operates as a space of transition when a people or a character transform from an “old” self into a “new” self.Rather than cursing this wilderness we all find ourselves in, what if we embrace it as an opportunity to engage in deep and comprehensive soul-searching and become clearer and more intentional about our focus, mission, and sense of identity? I am certain such a discipline can help us draw to the surface destructive beliefs and self-defeating behaviors that hinder our transformation. Let us embrace this time in the wilderness and do the internal work to prepare the way of the Lord.In the words of Rumi, “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”MaryAnn MorrisDean of Students See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Guest speaker Ed Anton from Hampton Roads Church joins us from his home in Virginia. Our identity as members of the Kingdom of God is found in Christ!THE KINGDOM OF GOD: IDENTITYSo in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26-28)Matthew 3:1-2How did liberation from sin and the call to repentance impact your purpose in life? How does God's Kingdom affect our worldview? Or How does God's Kingdom give us a shared worldview? Is Christianity only about being liberated from sin?Matthew 3:13-17What does this passage have to say about Jesus' identity? What is God's role in the process? What does it mean to fulfill all righteousness?Galatians 3:26-29How does God's Kingdom give each of us a new identity? How does God's Kingdom make all of us one?How does identity politics get in the way of our new identity in Christ? How is identity politics a worldview different from God's Kingdom worldview? How do our other identities tug at us?Philippians 3:3What is the difference between a righteousness of our own and one that comes from God?What are the main things that make up your identity? When do they come into conflict with your identity in Christ? For Reflection:How would your life be different if you saw your identity though God's eyes? How can you align and deepen your convictions to embrace the truth of who you are in God's eyes?Pray this week to be able to better view yourself through the lens of Kingdom identity, and ask God to show you ways to use His righteousness to bless others.

Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. John 12:3What a humble and beautiful act of love toward Jesus. This perfume was worth 300 days’ wages. That’s a lot of money! It’s interesting to note that Judas objected to this act by claiming that he thought it should have been sold and the money given to the poor. But the Gospel states clearly that Judas was really only interested in the money himself since he used to steal from the money bag. Of even greater note is Jesus’ response to Judas. Jesus rebukes Judas and states, “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”If anyone else would have said this it would have sounded self-centered. But it was Jesus who said it and He was perfectly selfless in His love. So what was this all about? It was about the fact that Jesus knew what Mary needed. And in saying what He did, He revealed what each one of us needs. We need to worship Him, honor Him and make Him the center of our lives. We need to humble ourselves before Him and serve Him. Not because He needs us to treat Him this way, but because we need to treat Him this way. Honoring Him in our humility and love is what we need to do for our own holiness and happiness. Jesus knew this, so He honored Mary for this act of love. This story invites us to do the same. It invites us to look to Jesus and to make Him the center of our adoration and love. It invites us to willingly pour out all our labor for Him (symbolized by the perfume worth 300 days’ wages). Nothing is too costly for Jesus. Nothing is worth more than an act of our worship.Worship of God is right to do. Most importantly, it’s an act that will transform you into the person you were made to be. You were made for worship and adoration of God and this is accomplished when you humbly honor our Lord with your whole self. Reflect, today, upon the depth of your own adoration of our Lord. Are you willing to “spill” your whole livelihood upon Him? Is He worth more to you than 300 days’ wages? Is He the most central part of your life? Do you daily humble yourself before Him and pour out your heart to Him in prayer? Reflect upon this humble act of worship that Mary offers Jesus and seek to imitate her beautiful example.Lord, may I follow the example of this holy woman, Mary. Help me to humble myself before You and honor You with my whole life. Dear Lord, nothing in life is more important than You and my total adoration of You. Draw me in, dear Lord, humble me before Your glory and help me to love and worship You with my whole being. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2020 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

Today I felt inspired to share with you a song I wrote two years ago - a song about remembering our sacred dreams. Re-entering the trajectory of them. The power and essence of them. The way in which they are always there inside - the pilot light within the soul. You may forget about them. They may get buried. But that light - those sacred dreams - they always stay lit. Ready whenever you are.

Colossians 1:1-20, 28-2:3What does the letter want to convey?A reality enveloped in Jesus the Christ is a reality saturated in liberation and love."We need to know that God can not help because he is the God who was, is, and is to come. God does not have to help us in the ways we think we need him to help because the help he can offer is exceedingly better. We are asking for finite helps. He offers the infinite. In this life, then, as it can be known now, we can learn to live with God knowing that he is the God who was, is, and is to come, and therefore a God who can not help. We can learn a Spirit-led helplessness, to embrace futility without in any way refusing responsibility to do good or lessening our efforts to obey God. There is powerlessness in the blood. Wonder-working powerlessness." -Chris Green--

The scent of lavender is supposed to be calming. It may also be the scent of trust. I begin this episode by explaining how lavender can make you appear to be more trustworthy – and why. http://rd.com/advice/relationships/habits-make-people-trust/I bet you have things you really want to do but somehow never get to doing them - right? There are trips you probably want to take or goals you want to accomplish but you don't. So what’s stop you? Sam Horn author of the book Someday is Not a Day in the Week (https://amzn.to/2X94qqn) joins me to explain why people keep procrastinating on those important goals and she offers a simple and effective way to stop putting them off and start doing them. What is it about some people who just walk into a room and take control? How do they send off those signals of, “I’m in charge here”? A lot of it turns out to be body language and I’ll explain how you can do it too. http://www.businessinsider.com/tricks-for-reading-peoples-body-language-2016-3What if the foods you eat can actually target certain diseases? Advent 2018 Series - Temporary Tenant - message 1The manger wasn't occupied long - no surprise there. But the tomb? No one expected that! The Son of God came as a temporary tenant so He could purchase for us the same privilege: pilgrims, passing through en route to a glorious inheritance which was purchased by the Lamb who came to destroy the works of the devil.Text: Jeremiah 33:3What do you think of when you read that someone called on the name of the Lord? It is a phrase we encounter often, but may not perceive its rich meaning and significance. In our first Advent message, we'll trace the usage of this concept throughout the Old & New Testaments. God delights when we call upon Him; in fact, it is a distinguishing mark for Christians! It is most appropriate to highlight this act during Advent season, for "all who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved." Indeed, as Christ followers, this is how we are now known.
Philippians series message 18Text: Philippians 4:2-3What does pressing on look like? It's a lofty concept, but it's often expressed in the little things - like getting along with people who get under your skin or with people with whom you don't see eye to eye. It's preserving unity and taking the high road - knowing the mission is bigger than your ego or opinions. Euodia and Syntyche weren't rookies in kingdom service, but needed to come to agreement, put their differences aside, and keep laboring for the kingdom. The key to success is found in yet another occurrence of the phrase, 'in the Lord'. This phrase changes everything! I love this small 'real life in ministry' snap shot with Paul.
Psalm 23:3What does God think of you when you messed up again? Our hope is our Good Shepard can restore our souls.
Adam Miller Perseverance Hebrews 12:1-2, 1 Peter 1:3What's hindering you from running the good race that God has set before you? Has your life become the center of your attention? Pastor Adam Miller encourages us to look towards the gospel from the book of Hebrews, teaching us to press on and not pull away.
