In the last few months, artificial intelligence (AI) has grown exponentially and rapidly, raising concerns over its safety and the adverse consequences it may have on society if it is not addressed. However, the application of artificial intelligence in the crypto space has many exciting advantages. With artificial intelligence, trading algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data and make informed decisions about buying and selling cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrency fraud can be detected and prevented using artificial intelligence. Blockchain networks can be optimized using artificial intelligence. Furthermore, AI can even enhance the privacy and security of cryptocurrency transactions. So what is all the fuss about if AI can bring all this good? I've had a few questions from Dentists who are interested in learning how to place fixed retainers, something I personally have found so fiddly! The whole process can be a little intimidating at first, so Dr. Raj Jabbal takes the fear out of it and makes it fun and easy. We also talked about different types of Fixed Retainers and the daily conundrums that we have when deciding on the recipe for retention. https://youtu.be/iH8oTU5gjag Check out this full episode on YouTube https://youtu.be/GkePbSVLVm8 Need to Read it? Check out the Full Episode Transcript below! Protrusive Dental Pearl: Head out to my Email Newsletter for some goodies and updates from me and also for the upcoming Protrusive App! In this episode I asked Dr. Raj all about: Routine use of Fixed and Removable Retainers as part of his Specialist Plans 7:53The best type of Fixed Retainer 10:29How to avoid warpage on Braided Type of Fixed Retainer 12:21Step-by-Step on how to place a Fixed Retainer 15:14Chance of relapse on Fixed Retainer vs Removable Retainer 20:01Cephtactics Fixed Retainer Protocol 24:40 If you enjoyed this episode, you should also check out General Dentists Doing Orthodontics Click below for full episode transcript: Opening Snippet: Do you want to see the best ever step-by-step video for how to place a fixed retainer completely stress-free? Then this is the episode where it's going to happen... Jaz' Introduction: Welcome back Protruserati to this episode on fixed retainers. We're continuing with our Ortho theme. Like I really hope you enjoy and gained so much value from that IPR techniques video like we and the team. And I say we, it was a team effort to put this video together. And it's been so great to see your comments and your feedback on Instagram, on YouTube comments, so please keep them coming if you found that video useful. In this one, I'm going to make another bold promise, okay? The video that will be part of this podcast. So if you're one of my loyal listeners, I appreciate you. If you're new to the podcast listening, thanks so much for joining from wherever you are in the world. This podcast will speak to Raj Jabbal about the different ways, the different fixed retainer types available. Is there a superior one? Is it a case that Raj Jabbal, the specialist orthodontist we speak to does he always place a fixed retainer? Or is there a place for removable retainers only. So we'll talk about the sort of daily conundrums that we have when we're deciding on the recipe for retention, which is unique to every patient, let's not forget that retention should be a unique thing based on the patient, based on the initial situation. Because initial situation, the crowded state is the most stable state. So if you're watching on YouTube, great, I will have a video step by step made by cephtactics, which is just the most beautiful video you'll ever see of someone applying a fixed retainer. It really helps make it tangible. And what I'll be doing is I'll be jumping in and out of that video and just giving you my sort of little pointers here and there. Okay, why I might disagree with some parts that video and how certain parts are just so mind blowing, and so much better than the way I used to do it. But again, if you're listening, then don't worry, I'll make sure that you'll have an easy place to click on tool. So wherever you listen, that you can jump straight to a video and watch it but you'll still gain so much more from the conversation with Dr. Raj Jabbal today. [Jaz]Before he joined the main episode, let me give you the Protrusive Dental Pearl. So you know that thing where if you only had one wish, what would that wish be? We all know that one wish should always be 'The I want unlimited wishes.' So if I had to give you just one pearl right now, it would be that I want to give you access to unlimited pearls. So how I'm going to do that? We'll you need to check out my email newsletter.

Creator of Magnetic Influencer Collective. And you're the writer and illustrator of the Wild Hearts Rise Up Oracle deck. You're the host of two podcasts. Tactical Magic Podcast. which you just interviewed me on for on whatever the other day. which was amazing you just were held so much beautiful space and and at these great times you very eloquently recapped what I said and I was very impressed with that. So thank you very much. And then you've got the Reveal The Game of Life podcast. Is that still in action?Molly Mandelberg 01:03Oh, yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 01:04Okay, fantastic. So you are managing two podcasts?Molly Mandelberg 01:09Yeah. And a business and social life somehow too...Mischa Zvegintzov 01:15...And a business and social life AND which on here I guess we'll get to that... Well, I'll keep going because the best parts coming up I think.Mischa Zvegintzov 01:27After spending years mastering content creation and online marketing, and I'm going to interject here really quick, you, the few times I've got to interact with you.Mischa Zvegintzov 01:33You clearly have the copy and the content creation side of things... very intuitive around that. Very well experienced. When we've been interacting and I've been you know hedging or looking for words you very quickly and eloquently bring up... help frame it in a very cool way. So anyone listening needs to know that about Molly. Aifted and awesome. Mischa Zvegintzov 01:43So as I start creating funnels, there's a great chance Molly will be working on the copy.Molly Mandelberg 02:12Looking forward to it.Mischa Zvegintzov 02:13Yeah. Hopefully. You never know, right? We get to pick our clients too, right? My guess is you're very good at picking your clients and being like, "Yeah, you don't fit Have a good day".Mischa Zvegintzov 02:28Molly finds her bliss in bridging the worlds of heart centered healing and transformation with the practical business strategies of levering leveraging a message into a global movement. You're a certified NLP coach. An Access Consciousness bars facilitator. And a transformational leadership coach. And a full time nomad.Mischa Zvegintzov 02:53Molly works with coaches, healers and conscious leaders to broadcast their messages with ease, so they can reach more people and make more money with less time spent. Hence, you do not mess around that you live by the schedule. She travels the world full time and runs her six figure business out of her self converted Sprinter van time and tiny home. Now, how fun is that?Mischa Zvegintzov 03:20Molly loves helping her clients to systemize their work and master the magnetics of marketing so they can experience more freedom and make an even bigger difference.Mischa Zvegintzov 03:35So how do you do this out of your van? Molly Mandelberg 03:39Yeah, however I feel like it...Molly Mandelberg 03:41I just want to say you said a couple times that I don't mess around. And I want to revisit that and just say "I built my business in such a way that I have time to mess around". So I definitely do have lots of travel and lots of play, and lots of exploring and adventures. And I think when we set our business up the right way, we can have that spaciousness and have that time, which is why being a full time Nomad makes it possible because I have systems set up to support me to do that.Mischa Zvegintzov 04:11Yeah. Tell me about that journey. Have you? Did you come out of the womb like I'm a Systems girl or a systems person?Molly Mandelberg 04:17And I actually had a moment where I was ready to quit my business. Hmm. I asked my friend, Karen, there are great Karen's in the world, I have to say, Karen, you know, would you just tell me what I'm good at? Because I clearly can't see my strengths myself, like, Would you tell me what the world actually needs for me.Molly Mandelberg 04:17I think I've always had a very engineering brain. And I like understanding how things work. And I like putting puzzles together. But it wasn't until really I started my business as a hypnotherapist and immediately started just geeking out on online marketing and trying to understand how how people who don't know me could learn to know me and like me, and trust me. and how I could create content that both adds value to people's lives and also sometimes invites them into my world. And as I started geeking out on that there was a period of time where there was this dissonance of, I just want to build things I just want to make content but If none of it is really landing, and it's not really aligning the business I'm running is not really aligning with who I feel like I'm becoming.Molly Mandelberg 05:26And she said, we need your help with that stuff, you have a capacity with creating content and writing copy, and building these systems and using technology that most of us that are coaches and healers don't have figured out and don't want to figure out. Because we want to keep doing just the healing work that the magic trick that we've mastered, the modalities that we are in love with.Molly Mandelberg 05:50And the words that came out of my mouth where "no one's gonna pay me for that. That's the fun part."Molly Mandelberg 05:54And if you ever hear yourself saying or thinking that that's probably the thing you're meant to be doing.Molly Mandelberg 06:00So what happened over time, is I was going hard into the technology and system development, like realm. That consciousness part of me, the healer that had started a business as a hypnotherapist was feeling under serving, I guess you could say it was feeling left behind. And so it's been a process to synthesize those two. So that's why I say I bridge the world between the heart centered healing and the tactics and strategy to grow business. Because I think both of those are absolutely required to actually level up and to get the success and to reach the people that we want to reach.Molly Mandelberg 06:00Doing the technology and setting up the program. And writing the copy is only part of it. Getting ourselves aligned in such a way that our people can even find us that we take our invisibility cloaks off that we broadcast our light into the world, that we're willing to receive the income and the clients that want to come to us in a big way. That is a key component in this in the growing of a business like this. So I now teach both, I brought in the healing back into my business to help people uncover those limiting beliefs and break through those upper limits. So that they could do both.Molly Mandelberg 06:00And I had...we were at a workshop, when we had this conversation, I had a chance the next day, to give a talk, I had won a challenge, purely through tenacity, not through making money as a speaker, but I'd want to speak or challenge and I got to speak to part of the room. And I changed my talk overnight and made an offer for that basically, helping people develop their content and figure out how to leverage their message to be online. And hopefully, through courses and programs beyond just one on one services. And I made that offer. And I got three clients, which had been the first three clients in many months. So I was really it was a turning point, it felt like a sign from the universe that I'm supposed to go this way now. And those three clients, single sessions led to packages led to referrals. And that was four or five years ago that maybe six years ago, that I made that shift, and it's just expanded and grown.Mischa Zvegintzov 08:07Hmm. So it's almost as if the systemization, the copy creation, is a backdoor into, into Alright, let's look at your limiting beliefsMolly Mandelberg 08:22...or people show up for both now, which is great. Yeah. Yeah, cuz I mean, anyone out there who is an entrepreneur who has tried to share something with the world, you may have noticed that even if you set it up perfectly and do it, right, it doesn't always work. And sometimes that's because we don't believe it will work. Sometimes that's because there's a part of us that's afraid it will work. I think it was who I'm forgetting her name Marianne Williamson that said, we're more afraid of our light than our darkness. Yeah, yeah, we're actually terrified of success. We're terrified of outgrowing our family and friends, and being too big into potent into powerful. And we have to get over that shit if we're actually going to make the difference that we're on this earth to make.Mischa Zvegintzov 09:05Yeah. What do you think? What do you think, is the biggest sticking point there? You'd you see from your clients? Like, what's the what's the biggest?Molly Mandelberg 09:19Like, usually with my clients, they come in saying, I want to make this bigger thing happen. And I just don't know where to start. Because there's so much information on the internet. You've been on YouTube, you know, there's 1000s of people trying to teach you the thing they know how to do. And there's so many different ways to grow a business. There's so many different strategies that will work for certain people. And it's really easy to get lost in a sea of too many tools, and too many techniques and too many different avenues to pay attention to.Molly Mandelberg 09:51So a lot of my clients come to me overwhelmed with all the ideas that have been thrown at them. And feeling like they're spinning their wheels going in circles, just to figure out what their business actually needs, how to bring their message forth. So I don't teach one size fits all business, I ask the person, what they're wanting to create. And then depending on what their strengths are, what their energetic brilliance is, we figure out the best way for their business to grow and for their projects to come to life. And how to create those in such a way that they're duplicatable, so that you run a program and it's not dead, and you have to start a new one, you can recreate it and launch it and sell it another time. And we want to systemize that process. So it's really easy to keep mastering the craft of whatever that new program or course is that you've created.Mischa Zvegintzov 10:40Hmm. And so do you have your a systems girl? And I hope that's okay, that I say that oh, yeah. Okay, cool. You're a systems girls. So someone rolls in. And they're like, I have a vision in what so what's your like, process, step one we go...Molly Mandelberg 10:59Depends on the business again. So it depends on where the person is at.Molly Mandelberg 11:02I will say the first tools that I recommend every entrepreneur in this kind of coaching and healing leadership kind of space. If you don't have a scheduler, and you don't have an email list start there. A scheduler is an online scheduler, so people can take a link and book themselves on your calendar. If you've ever tried to make an appointment with someone, and you've gone through six or seven emails back and forth, trying to find a time that works for both of you, and then somebody has to figure out the Zoom link, then somebody has to add it to the calendar. And all of that could be done in one click of a link. That is the first time saving tool, any entrepreneur or anyone who's working outside of you know, a regular nine to five job... that online schedule or if you need to make appointments with someone, that's the first thing that's going to save you a ton of time. You should not be responding and replying to five emails just to set one appointment.Mischa Zvegintzov 11:56It's ludicrous, right?Molly Mandelberg 11:57It's ludicrous.Molly Mandelberg 11:58And then the email list... beginning to build your audience.Molly Mandelberg 12:01People think email marketing is dead. Molly Mandelberg 12:03Email marketing, the old way it used to be done is definitely dead. People do not want 30 blasts hard selling them on something that they may or may not want. That's gone. But there are ways to use your email list to actually build a relationship with people. And if anybody was around, we'll say mid October, in 2021. Facebook and Instagram went down for half a day. Nobody could get in, nobody could see anything new. If you were building our marketing presence on those platforms, that was probably a scary day for you. Because nobody could see what you were doing. And you couldn't reach out to anyone. And you might notice that that could happen any time those platforms are not set in stone. They could die. Your account could be closed for no reason. It's really hard to get ahold of anyone.Molly Mandelberg 12:48So building an audience, on your own system, your own email list, where you're actually finding people who want to be in your inner circle, and having a chance to connect directly with them. Yes, not everyone will open every email. Yes, not everyone will want to buy your stuff. But you have an opportunity there to actually cultivate a connection with your people in a way that you don't on social media.Molly Mandelberg 12:48So building an email list and figuring out how to connect with them is the next one.Molly Mandelberg 12:58And one of the things I would put, I usually put on my clients, you know, priority list. Is to find ways to connect with those people when you're not selling. So a lot of people are like, Okay, I have a list, but I'm not growing my list. And I'm not really connecting with them unless I'm having something to invite them to. Well, there's this energetic. I call it an energetic bank account that we have with each individual that's on our list. And if we're just asking and inviting and making calls to action, and asking people to register and click after a while, it feels pretty slimy. It's like stop asking me for stuff. I don't want it. I don't know you, I don't care. And it feels like you're taking taking taking.Molly Mandelberg 13:59So the antidote to that is to make deposits in that energetic bank account by delivering actual value. And that could be your podcast, that could be videos you've put on YouTube. That could be just a note of like, here's what I'm thinking about. Here's a story about something that happened to me and what I learned from it. That's just I just want to share that with you hope you have a great day, adding little value contribution nuggets like that makes the energetic bank account feel better when you're ready to go and make a withdrawal, so to speak, ask people to click or to register or to show up to something.Mischa Zvegintzov 14:32Can I ask you a question? A little nuance within that. If you're... because you were talking to me... we had a conversation andI was like yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to increase my email rate to my list. And you're like, Well, you you, you do a podcast episode every day you could affect and I can't remember how you said it. You said you could do like you could say here's my here's this email... Here's this podcast episode that I did. Here's the main gist of it. Here's the highlight. Listen for the rest. Is that kind of what you said?Molly Mandelberg 15:11Yeah totally yeah. That is both. I mean, because you're asking them to come over and click it. In some ways, it could be seen as an ask. But because it's free. And you're not asking them to register or give them any give you any information, it is kind of just a value add. The reason I said put the little nugget, the juicy synopsis or whatever in there in the email.Molly Mandelberg 15:32Some of your audience wants to read stuff, some of your audience wants to listen to stuff, some of your audience wants to watch stuff. So giving them the option of receiving your juicy nugget of value in a way that works for them is how you kind of serve the whole people.Mischa Zvegintzov 15:48Yeah. love it. That's great. Do you what? What....Mischa Zvegintzov 15:53So a couple of things come to mind. And one is, you know, it's easy to stay, say start building an email list, saying it in the reality of one day at a time starting to build that email list are two different things. But I'm also intrigued how did you? Well. So you're obviously building your list. Pre Karen, right? Pretty good Karen. You're you're building your list, but it's more focused on hypnotherapy, NLP, things like that more of the healing modality. You have the epiphany with Karen, your friend...Mischa Zvegintzov 16:29what was your friend's name? Who was like, Hey, speak at my thing. You remember his name, or her name?Molly Mandelberg 16:33The place where I won this where I had the speaking opportunity? That was called Thrive Academy, which is an amazing business growth thing for people who are early on in their business and want to find their niche and learn how to make find clients.Mischa Zvegintzov 16:45Cool. And so was it in their online? Yes. So was it an opportunity to present online?Molly Mandelberg 16:50No, it was years ago. So it was in person at a conference.Mischa Zvegintzov 16:54Hence the you were looking for the Table Rush it worked? Yeah, we'll tie that in. So. So you are going to you said...Molly Mandelberg 17:07You're asking how do I interact with my list when I'm changing my niche?Mischa Zvegintzov 17:10Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 17:11Well, well, hold on. hold. So if I'm interested... what was your presentation? You said I changed it overnight. Right? You had? Yeah. So was that easy? Or sticky? Or was it did it come quick? Or was it...Molly Mandelberg 17:25I was at a speaking conference where they were teaching me how to be a good speaker and make an offer. So I was using their template in their framework to rewrite my speech. So my speech beforehand was more... I forget I was changing my niche a lot that first couple years, or that first few months in Thrive Academy, but it was something like finding your purpose.Molly Mandelberg 17:47Which I had noticed over a few months, nobody actually wants to put down money to find their purpose, at least they didn't want to with me. It was a little bit too vague and not really like hitting on a true pain point, which is, what do you actually want to be? Or how do you actually want to, you know... usually the niches that work very directly speak to being... finding more wealth.Mischa Zvegintzov 18:11YepMolly Mandelberg 18:12Being healthier, or feeling more beautiful, or healing or transforming your relationships. So being in a purpose niche, I wasn't quite nailing one of those directions. And that's why nobody was really showing up. So when you're talking about growing a business that's directly related to increasing my financial abundance, and so people are more likely to invest in working in something like that.Mischa Zvegintzov 18:36So you, you You're, you're pre that moment, you as you're taking... you're taking classes to learn how to present... Which I love. I think that's such a cool thing. I did not know that about you. So you're taking that to be more effective.Molly Mandelberg 18:51And at the beginning of my business, I was learning whatever the hell I could to help me.Mischa Zvegintzov 18:55So good. That's I think it's so powerful.Molly Mandelberg 18:57Yeah, it's important to to invest in mentorship of people who know how to do what you want to do is a really like, high level way to go about anything. If you don't know how to do something, learning it from somebody who really does know how to do it is a fast track to figuring it out.Mischa Zvegintzov 19:14So good. And I think you know, that was a that's been a hard lesson for me over my life. People will say invest in yourself and that can be a very ambiguous term but that is clearly an actionable way to invest in yourself, right?Molly Mandelberg 19:29Yeah. Monetarily investing in mentorship and also investing time in learning something new that could look like reading a book and actually trying to implement what it tells you... Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 19:40So is this outside of thrive? So thrive and you taking these classes are two different things?Molly Mandelberg 19:45I was taking many different paths Thrive was one of the big ones at the beginning of my business.Mischa Zvegintzov 19:50Okay. And I'm sorry to get granular granular on you. But are you learning how to speak on stage through thrive and you win one of their...Molly Mandelberg 20:00I was. In 2015 or 2016 .Mischa Zvegintzov 20:03You get the opportunity to present cuz you are doing a good job.Molly Mandelberg 20:07Yeah, I won their game. Mischa Zvegintzov 20:09You won their game. perfect.Mischa Zvegintzov 20:10So... you have the epiphany moment and before your headline or your thesis of your talk is literally, "I'll help you find your purpose".Molly Mandelberg 20:21Something along those lines. Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 20:23Then it became... Do you remember fairly specifically what it became?Molly Mandelberg 20:26It became "I'll help you get your business online basically".Mischa Zvegintzov 20:30Fantastic. Thank you.Molly Mandelberg 20:31Yeah. And that's evolved a lot since then to to be more specific.Mischa Zvegintzov 20:34Okay, cool.Molly Mandelberg 20:36So what to go back to what we were talking about which is you're growing an email list, you've got this audience of people who want to hear a certain kind of thing from you. I had to pivot to say, "This is who I'm talking to now. And this is the kind of stuff that I'm coming to." And this is a great email for anyone who changes in directions. And I mean, I had changed directions enough times that year that some people on my list got number, a number of these emails. Molly Mandelberg 20:59You basically want to say, "Hey, I'm so and so I'm here you've been hearing from me, or maybe you haven't been, and I am moving in a new direction. And I want to give you the chance to stay or go. Are you down to hear from me about these kinds of things? This is kind of stuff I'm gonna be sharing with you, and and inviting you to and talking about. And if you want to hear about that, no action necessary. If you think you'd rather not hear about from that from me or about that at all, or for me at all anymore. This is your invitation to unsubscribe, or you can hit reply, and I will unsubscribe you for you. And that's really generous, because it's saying, Hey, here's what we're doing. And are you in or are you out. And if you're out no hard feelings. And if you're in, let's go.Molly Mandelberg 21:03So you can do it in a really connected way. And usually, the people who stick around are now probably less...Molly Mandelberg 21:54Anytime you lose subscribers, it's actually a good thing. Because you've now condensed your list to being more passionate about you. More connected, more happy to hear from you. Anybody who leaves is taking themselves out of it. And so you now have got a more potent connection with your list. And so that... I mean part of those years, I was trying to figure out how to build my list in the first place. And I had to recreate new strategies and try different things and different things work.Molly Mandelberg 22:22But people are generally less inclined to just put their email in a box for no reason. They're more likely, Same with the energetic bank account idea, they're more likely to put their name and email in a box, if they are going to get something that they want. So people don't really want a newsletter. People don't really want to simply stay connected, although sometimes they will, if they think you're awesome, especially if you have a podcast, they've been connecting with you. They want to know what else is out there. But giving them a reason. So some kind of a free gift, some kind of a video series, some sort of a tool for them to receive more magic, only available through that portal, they'll come through the portal to get the thing.Mischa Zvegintzov 23:06So what are you doing today? What's your little (Free gift)?Molly Mandelberg 23:10Yes, so I've got tons of free gifts. Anytime you buy a program, or course of course you end up on my email list. And then I've got a free gift called the "Money Machine Blueprint", which is sort of the framework of how email lists work and tells you how to make a free gift and stuff like that.Molly Mandelberg 23:25The best free gift or lead magnet that I've ever created, which I had to create a course to teach people how to do it because it works so well. Is a quiz. I call it "A Client Attracting Quiz." And my quiz is on my website, it's, "What level of thought leader are you?" And it lets people know of the five stages that I created this framework with archetypes from the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Are you the fool? Are you the magician? Are you the High Priestess? the Empress? or the higher fan? And depending on where you land on that, what's the invitation to start growing into the next phase. So people get this beautiful 16 page PDF all written up about how where they're at right now is perfect. How it's really a beautiful part of the phases of growing a business and becoming a thought leader. And how to overcome their inner arch nemesis to begin expanding into the next level. So that quiz has gone through three or four different maybe five different iterations over the years. But after I saw it start really working. I started running a $5 a day Facebook ad to it. And I grew my list to like 10,000 after a year or two.Mischa Zvegintzov 24:33That is amazing.Molly Mandelberg 24:35So I was getting 70 to 100 leads every single week just by running a small add to my quiz. And that was the biggest list grow thing ever and I had peers of mine colleagues of mine that I've done other projects with tell me I was a damn fool for not teaching people how to do what I did with that. And so I created a course to do that.Mischa Zvegintzov 24:55Tell me the name of the course again,Molly Mandelberg 24:57Quiz mastery.Mischa Zvegintzov 24:58And it's all in your... they can go to I've got it over here. Is that on your where to go? Why? What's your website? Again?Molly Mandelberg 25:07www.WildHeartsRiseUp.comMischa Zvegintzov 25:09Yes, www.WildHeartsRiseUp.com. I'm looking over here anybody wondering what I'm looking at? And say it again, because I'm thinking we definitely want people to hear that again. So they can...Molly Mandelberg 25:24www.WildHeartsRiseUp.com. And if you go to offerings, and then programs, you'll find it. Called Quiz Mastery. And on the home page you'll see the quiz if you want to take it and see how you like it. Nine questions. It's really fun.Mischa Zvegintzov 25:37Nice. And it's fun, how fun, it's fun, and educational.Molly Mandelberg 25:41That's the thing is people love to interact with a quiz because it's a game. And we've been playing games for 1000s of years, people want to be entertained, they want to be asked questions about themselves. And through the process of answering those questions. They're already learning something about themselves. So there's this introspection, this self awareness and this gamified experience, that is just more fun than other free gifts.Mischa Zvegintzov 26:05It's beautiful.Mischa Zvegintzov 26:06Question on the the inspiration to say, "I'm changing directions. This is it, if you want to hear about it. Fantastic. You don't have to do anything just to enjoy, learn whatever. Or unsubscribe." Was that taught to you? Or it was that inspiration?Molly Mandelberg 26:27I just sort of, I don't think I learned that from anyone.Mischa Zvegintzov 26:31Just intuitive at this point. Trial and error. You're like people... like people want to know this. They don't just...Molly Mandelberg 26:36Well, yeah, I mean, I wanted to feel authentic and sending them a different kind of content. So I wanted to let them know that things were changing, new stuff was gonna be coming.Mischa Zvegintzov 26:46And then the quiz thing was that a little combination inspiration... you'd heard of thatMolly Mandelberg 26:51That was from a book called "The ask method" by Ryan Levesque (https://amzn.to/3JhWFr5) who really designed that whole process from a lot of research and human psychology and stuff like that. So he came up with a system, and I just kind of reverse engineered what I learned from him.Mischa Zvegintzov 27:09Fantastic. So thank you for sharing that. Anybody who's listening? Watching. Is like, Oh, this is awesome. They can reach out to you. And you would be like, hey, I'll walk you through this. Let's, let's get your... I'll teach you even how to use the online calendar. And, and let's start building your list. And here's the quiz. And you, you'd be like, alright, you would dig in and be like, alright, what kind of quiz are we going to make for you? Like, if I called you, you'd be like, alright, Mischa, what do you like? What are you passionate about? Let's get the quiz together. You could help somebody with that?Molly Mandelberg 27:46Yes, I do. I have the the quiz Mastery program is self guided. Sometimes I also run it live with q&a calls. And then I also have done for you services for quizzes where people can come to me and have the idea. And then I go and build the whole thing for them.Mischa Zvegintzov 28:01And you travel around in a van, which I'm looking at, which is incredible. It's... alright. Great. That's fantastic. Thank you. Alright, so...Molly Mandelberg 28:12I'm actually you just gave me a good idea I've been meaning to for a long time, I have a template for how to set up your scheduler, so you don't miss any steps. I'm going to put that as a free gift on my website, too. So if people need help getting the schedule or thing figured out, I'll I'll have that template up there soon.Mischa Zvegintzov 28:27Love it. That is a great gift. I'll jump in there and take advantage. I'm good at using the tool, but I don't have it. I've told you this myself and like I love the way you have all your little intricacies within it.Mischa Zvegintzov 28:41Cool. So all right, what if somebody kind of what's the next level? So there's that's like that's like bare bones basic get started, like what's next?Molly Mandelberg 28:49The next level usually is people. I sort of work with people who have been seeing clients for a while. So Thrive Academy is an amazing resource for somebody who's just getting started and needs to sort of figure out who their niche is. Start figuring out how to attract clients, how to do free consults, how to start really getting clear on who your people are and how exactly you serve them. Once people are clear on that there's usually a desire, there's often as desire to move from one on one services, to groups and online courses. So I'm really the best resource. Well, I'm the best resource that sounds really cocky. I am great for people who want to move from one on one to groups. and they already know who their clients are one on one and they're ready to systemize their process. or to develop an offering so that people who can't afford their one on one work have somewhere to go. or people who would prefer to be in a community setting learning the stuff from them have somewhere to go. and how to create that process so that it's easy, and so that it's not a pain in the ass to run so that it's easy to sell it. People can just click a button and take it. how to start writing copies so that you can actually sell this to your email list or you can post about it confidently.Molly Mandelberg 30:07So it's the copy and the content creation and the technology to just make it easier to broadcast your message. And I also work with people who are just trying to grow their one on one practice, like, that's definitely still in my wheelhouse. And it takes some showing up, it takes some broadcasting, it takes some marketing. And marketing is kind of a dirty word in the heart centered healer space. But the truth is marketing is where we simply allow our light to shine more broadly out into the world so our people can see it, and find their way to us. And that's an important thing to do, because I think more people on this planet could use support. We need the healers to go big now.Mischa Zvegintzov 30:49Hmm. Two beautiful way you said that, thank you for that. And that is a that's a rough edge for a lot of that healer, mentality space, right? I don't know, mode modality is a better word.Molly Mandelberg 31:01Yeah.Molly Mandelberg 31:02There's a myth in there that says if I have this tool. if I have this modality. if I have this capacity for healing and helping, then I should give it away for free. And I shouldn't, I shouldn't be too big about it, because that won't be humble. So there's a lot of, like I said, limiting beliefs. And there's a lot of programming inside of us that says, Stay quiet, stay small, just do it on the side. And I think that is innately serving less people. And if you're on this earth, to be a healer, to be a leader to be a guide guiding people to greater in their lives, then how dare you not go do that and as big of a way as you possibly can, so more people can receive it.Molly Mandelberg 31:47And to think it's a contribution in some way to not charge for your services, because people can't afford you. People get more healing out of things that they have invested in energetically. And the biggest way we energetically invest in things on this plane is monetarily.Mischa Zvegintzov 32:05Yeah. Molly Mandelberg 32:06Yeah. And if you are doing your work, your healing for free, you have to work some other job in order to make a living. So you're doing less of that healing work. And that does not make sense to me.Mischa Zvegintzov 32:17Hmm. Thank you for that.Molly Mandelberg 32:19Yeah.Molly Mandelberg 32:20Unless you're independently wealthy, wealthy, and then do whatever you want to do. Hopefully do more healing work.Mischa Zvegintzov 32:27Right? Why not? Yeah, do it for free that donation base wherever you want.Molly Mandelberg 32:32Yeah, and I'm not shaming or making wrong, anybody. Everybody's on their own path. I just had a client this week who had a huge breakthrough, and finally pricing her, like private retreats that she hosts on her property that she's been doing for many, many years. and severely undercharging. And she finally had the realization... that she was doing one this past weekend. And it wasn't enough compensation for the energetic thing she was delivering for this couple on her property. And she finally upped her rates. And I was like, very pleased that she came to that realization. Because you think, you know, I see you, I see the value you're delivering, and it is worth more than you're saying it's worth. And would you be willing to be supported by your work in a bigger way, and allow the people coming to you to be supported by your work in a bigger way? Because they're energetically shown up for it? By paying what it's worth?Mischa Zvegintzov 33:31Hmm.Molly Mandelberg 33:32Yeah. I'm on that side of the fence. But everybody gets to do what they want and thenMischa Zvegintzov 33:36Right? No, right or wrong? Like if you're inspired to one or the other, own it go with it, right? I think. So. When you... would you say your like hearts...when you like your avatar, right? The Avatar is a thing that's bantered around a lot. or your ideal client? Or how do you say it in what you're doing?Molly Mandelberg 34:00My ideal client is this spiritual woman entrepreneur who wants to make a bigger difference. Who's ready to reach more people, and who wants to do that with more freedom and more light and aliveness than they thought that it was possible?Mischa Zvegintzov 34:16How do you feel about the people that are in that space doing what they're doing, trying to grow? Like you're encouraging them to grow, helping them grow, supporting them to grow clearly inspiring them to grow? What about using terms in that space of "heart centered"? Is that a legit term?Molly Mandelberg 34:37I use the term heart centered? Yeah, my, your money machine is one of my online courses, which is all about list creation and how to set that up. I think I'm going to rename it something like email marketing magic or something like that. Yeah, but its marketing is to the heart centered warrior goddess entrepreneurs. Yeah, I use heart centered a lot too.Mischa Zvegintzov 34:59Yeah. What do you call on the men's side of that? Or there isn't a lot of men doing that? Or what do you what do you like? Go ahead.Molly Mandelberg 35:05I mean, I think spiritual men is clear. I don't know, I haven't spent a lot of time marketing to men. I've had clients who are men. but I don't cater my marketing to men, because I think there's already a lot of business tools and support out there for men.Mischa Zvegintzov 35:20Hmm, it's interesting.Molly Mandelberg 35:23Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 35:24Um, I wonder too, sometimes if, like, the the, like, the the woman's space is more... or that that feminine energy, I guess, is another term that we would use, right? It's like, it seems to be more robust. Obviously, feminine energy energy is going to be females who are embracing it more is that would you say, looking at market size, those are a lot more women?Molly Mandelberg 36:01I don't know about market size or not? I think more so than looking at the market. It's important to look at who you are and what you're here to do. And I, I tend to resonate more with helping women leaders rise up.Mischa Zvegintzov 36:15No, for sure. And I'm not trying to pigeonhole you and say you strategically went after that. More of I'm asking an honest question of, you're in the space, you're helping healers, you have men clients. I'm just curious if you're opinion...Molly Mandelberg 36:29I think a lot of men in general, are, are more inclined to a different style of marketing than I produce. Yeah. Which is a little bit more. I don't want to make broad generalizations like this. But like, Click Funnels marketing is more geared towards men.Mischa Zvegintzov 36:46Yeah,Molly Mandelberg 36:46yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 36:47Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's interesting. I was just interesting as I'm...Molly Mandelberg 36:51yeah. Well, because there are a lot of young men out there who are doing marketing successfully. And I don't really need to compete with them when I'm serving slightly different audience.Mischa Zvegintzov 37:00Sure.Molly Mandelberg 37:01Yeah. Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 37:02Yeah. Yeah. Mischa Zvegintzov 37:04What's that?Molly Mandelberg 37:05And they do it well.Mischa Zvegintzov 37:07And they do it? Well, absolutely. And if you like, if your preference is to work with females? Great. right. Like I'm not, I think the worst thing to do is go, Well, I really like working with men, but it's the female markets bigger. That's for me in the way I do things could be a futile path. Right?Molly Mandelberg 37:33Right. It has to be something that you are passionate about. And that is true about any creative project, I think. And there are a lot of, I mean, there's a lot of women and men in the personal development space. And I think that the most important thing to pay attention to is who are you? And how will your people resonate with you? And how do you most want to serve them? And then carve your niche out of that? Usually, the best niche we land on? Is us a little while ago? Yeah, us two steps before now. Yeah, that's why we're able to help people because we're a few steps ahead of them on the same path.Mischa Zvegintzov 38:13Yeah, yeah, that's good. Tell me. So you find somebody rolls in. And they're, they're like, they have a robust one on one practice. And, and they're like, Alright, I'm ready to create some evergreen courses. That's another term that's thrown around evergreen or, or go one to many start doing group things. Like what are your steps to get people on that path?Molly Mandelberg 38:40I mean, usually, it's, you know, how much they have created already. figuring out what the best platform is that they want to do that on. If you're selling evergreen courses, or if you're wanting to streamline selling group programs, then having some sort of a sales page to check out cart to accessing a membership site software is going to be a great tool to create more ease with that. There are free ways to do it through, you know, PayPal link, and then Google Drive folder. And then there are more robust platforms like Kajabi, and kartra, and teachable and Thinkific and Podio is a cheaper one. On again, on my website, there's a Resources tab, which has all the software's that I recommend for these different levels of things.Molly Mandelberg 39:27I like Kajabi. And I also think kartra is very comparable and the offerings that it has right now. Yeah, but those are the higher level and for people who are maybe just starting out or who don't want to invest a lot in their first course or program because they don't know if it's gonna work yet. or because they're not sure that's the direction they really fully want to be moving in. There are cheaper options to. and then once we have the platform, we start digging into the copywriting and what goes on The sales page, how are we going to welcome people and invite them in? How are we going to keep them engaged over the program? And how what do they need to know to show up and get it all done? And starting to build out the framework of how the user experience will be? And what are the pieces of the puzzle that need to get created? And then helping people put those pieces of the puzzle together?Mischa Zvegintzov 40:20Nice!Molly Mandelberg 40:21Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 40:22And depending on how committed someone is to that process, I imagine is how fast that.Molly Mandelberg 40:29How eager they are to create it, and how quickly they set a deadline. Like how soon they want to launch. Like I have one client right now who we've been working for, together for six or so months, and she hasn't really set a launch date yet, because she's still working on the program and wants to figure it out and make it perfect. And I have another client who we're working through like this third thing in two months, because she just wants to get stuff out. Yeah, it really depends on the person and how ripe the idea is.Molly Mandelberg 40:29Yeah, and I suppose how they like to... well I guess it is going to be a matter of trying, trying, trying until you find the till you find out how to connect your message with your...Molly Mandelberg 41:14And you will find that so much faster if you try. Yeah, the one thing I like to remind people of is, you cannot easily cognate your way to clarity. But if you start testing and trying and exploring and actually putting things out in the world, you will get clearer a lot faster.Mischa Zvegintzov 41:36This is a random question. But how many how do you have success selling your tarot cards?Molly Mandelberg 41:43I have sold about 300 decks? But I would say 150 of those were when I launched it. Oh, okay. Yeah. When I did an Indiegogo campaign to fund the initial printing of 500 decks. Yeah. And that was successful. And then I haven't pushed it a whole lot since then. But the people who love the deck, post about it on Instagram and share about it a lot. And I have a friend who's running a whole group program where he's using my deck as the topic for each of his classes. He pulls a card and then teaches about that energetic thing. And then yeah, one of my friends just texted me today that she gave another one of my deck away. So she buys them in five packs now.Mischa Zvegintzov 42:23Nice!Molly Mandelberg 42:24Yeah. So there's people who are really sharing it on my behalf. And then there's been a few podcast episodes where I just talk about my deck and that's helped too.Mischa Zvegintzov 42:32Yeah, cool. Um, when a previous conversation we had, I wrote down some notes van broke down, reclaim your power coincidence shifted relationship with your father, uh, you have a really sort of great...you know...Molly Mandelberg 42:48One of my Bitch slaps from the universeMischa Zvegintzov 42:50Yeah, bitch slaps from the universe. Why don't you? Why don't you tell me about that?Molly Mandelberg 42:54yeah, so I bought my van, three and a half, almost four years ago. And I started traveling it before I built it out. So it actually took me about two and a half years to finish the build inside because I didn't want to stay in one place and finished building it. I would just sort of drive to Colorado and build the bed and drive to Minnesota and put the solar panels on and drive to North Carolina and figure out the wiring of the solar panels. And so I was building it as I traveled around the country and did workshops and attended conferences and had speaking gigs and also just traveled to see friends and family. And on that first trip. Right after I left Oregon where my mom lives. I was about 1000 miles in and my turbo went out. I it was I didn't know it was a turbo yet they tried to fix the resonator. I made it on another 1200 miles. And what's interesting is the second time it went out I was listening to this book called busting loose from the money game. And if you look you have it.Mischa Zvegintzov 43:58I do I have it and I need to read it. Someone gave it definitely read it. Oh my books. What's that?Molly Mandelberg 44:02Read it? Yes. Okay, read it with caution after I tell you this story. So there's a process in that book. Basically, it's telling you how to step out of the matrix and recognize your the infinite being and take your power back from all the trauma and drama of this reality. And it tells you when you do this process, it's very likely that life or this reality, or the universe is going to hand you an opportunity to really walk your talk with this stuff. It's going to give you something to try and convince you that you are human and you're limited and this reality is real, and that you're a victim of it.Molly Mandelberg 44:43And so I'm listening to that process and he's basically telling me that and boom my turbo goes out again, or my van giant turbo dial diesel van goes into limp mode, and I'm on the highway and I'm just barely in Santa Fe New Mexico. So I limp off the highway I make it over a little crest and coast down to where I say there's a shop. And part of me is like, I'm doomed. I'm stranded. This is terrible. What am I going to do? And another part of me is like, wow, that happened real fast. So long story short, it's like $5,500 to fix the van, I don't have it. I, my mother, who I would normally borrow money from in a crisis is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on a ship, teaching her screenwriting class on a cruise crossing the Atlantic, unreachable. My father, who I had never asked for money for before, who's not a financial supportive person historically, in my life, I call him just to let them know where I'm at, and that I'm stranded and that I'm trying to figure this out. And he ends up being able to, like Pay Pal the money from a credit card to make it possible for them to start the repairs. Hmm. And so that's underway.Molly Mandelberg 46:01And I have this epiphany of like, Oh, I could email my list. My list was really small back then. But it was not tiny. And so this is an opportunity, I need money right now, why don't I put a flash sale out to my audience and see what happens. And so I sent an email. And within a few days, a couple people had bought a half price VIP day with me so that we can get a lot of work done on their business.Molly Mandelberg 46:24So those two things made it possible for me to get back on the road, I ended up having an awesome few days in Santa Fe going to 10,000 waves going to meow Wolf, which is why I was passing through Santa Fe in the first place. And my relationship with my dad completely changed. I now saw him as somebody who could support me in some way. And that was a shift, our relationship has been totally different. Since then, we're much closer and much, I don't know, I feel like more seen and held by him in a way that I didn't before that.Molly Mandelberg 46:58And I also got to know that, again, my email list is an amazing resource that, especially when I need to generate money really fast, it's there. And I can do that. And that's the whole point of having an email list and nurturing your audience is so that when you need to, you can press the button and find more, hopefully, create more income right then.Molly Mandelberg 47:21And in the process. This big scary upset of my van is broken and it's new. And I thought I was doing this big adventure. And now I'm screwed. And it's like, no, wait, I took my power back from that. Not only did I get these beautiful silver lining gifts, but I got my van fixed and back on the road and I am the infinite being creating my reality. Look at that. So it was a huge big lesson, which looks like to an outsider, A Bitch Slap From The Universe, but it ended up being a great thing.Mischa Zvegintzov 47:52Yeah, like what was a heavy, potentially gnarly time and probably very stressful in the moment scary in the moment. Yeah. Yeah. To just new, blossoming relationship with Father or new perspective for you and an opportunity for him to maybe do what he hadn't done before in a new way or whatever. And he took advantage, right. Like, how amazing is that? Yeah, seize that opportunity for your dad. God bless him. Right?Molly Mandelberg 48:20Yeah, totally.Mischa Zvegintzov 48:21And then, I think you told me if you don't mind me saying how big your list was at that time, is that al right?Molly Mandelberg 48:27It was like 600 or something.Mischa Zvegintzov 48:30Yeah. So what was the offer that you made them? Do you remember? And is this...Molly Mandelberg 48:33It was a half price VIP day? So at that time, my VIP days were like 2500, I think. And so I was selling an eight hour package basically for 1250.Mischa Zvegintzov 48:45And this is like, this is post Karen. And so a few years post Karen...Molly Mandelberg 48:50yeah,Mischa Zvegintzov 48:51yeah, so you're at this point, likeMolly Mandelberg 48:53I had started to make a name for myself in the niche that I was in. And there were enough people on my list that were waiting for cheaper opportunity to work with me. Mischa Zvegintzov 49:03(Mischa cackling maniacally)Molly Mandelberg 49:03They took advantage of that, and I don't even do VIP days anymore. But if I did, they would be more than that. For sure.Mischa Zvegintzov 49:09That's amazing. Tell me tell me how do you nurture that moment? Because I think it's so beautiful and poignant and to see your father in a new light? And you know I have kids you know. and so when they were born I'm like, Oh, I knew aware... knew appreciation for mom and dad right? Oh, my kids are now you know, smelly 10 year olds. new appreciation for my parents, right whatever. This moment for you. How quickly do you... are you like that was that was a powerful moment? or was this like a year later? Or in the moment? Are you like, "oh my gosh!"?Molly Mandelberg 49:59No. I sobbed a lot when that happened, because in my story in my head was that my dad doesn't have my back in that way that my dad is more of a Brother Uncle figure than like a father who can support me. So, yeah, it was really big in the moment. And I recognized it right away. It was after the fact I think that I noticed my energy toward him had shifted to, over time, in the times that we've hung out since then.Mischa Zvegintzov 50:31Did you try to nurture that in a different way now?Molly Mandelberg 50:35I think I'm more forgiving of him as a person, more in allowance of him. I mean, I've also undergone another, however many years of personal development work and healing on my own to help that relationship. I won't say it was all from that moment. Yeah, he gets he's grown up more in the last few years to. In his mid 70s.Mischa Zvegintzov 50:56(Mischa babbling for a couple seconds)Molly Mandelberg 50:57It was hard and, and, like challenging, especially when I was younger, and it has become more beautiful and better over time. And that was definitely a turning point for us.Mischa Zvegintzov 51:09It's beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. I can't let this one little thing that you said go by either. Mom was on a cruise. Great writing class. What?Molly Mandelberg 51:21Yeah, my mom is a wildly successful screenwriter. She's had a, like 40 plus year success as a writer. And she teaches she used to teach Screenwriting at UCLA Film School, and she moved to Oregon, when I was like seven. So that was like 28 years ago. So she's been teaching at PSU and out of her living room in Portland, Oregon for the last 20 years or so. And about 12 or 13 years ago, she decided to start doing it as a retreat. So she always takes a transatlantic cruise liner. And there's always at least six or seven days at sea before you get to Europe, and people right and take her class in the morning and write all afternoon on the at sea days. And then everybody goes in frolics around Europe on the days that they're in Port. Yeah it's a pretty awesome retreat, especially for anybody who wants to be a writer. And if you decide to go on that retreat, tell her I sent you. And I've gone on it five or six times myself, and I always get a lot of writing done.Mischa Zvegintzov 52:20Wow, that is amazing.Molly Mandelberg 52:23That quiz started on the ship, or at least got a lot of creation done the quiz that I made, a lot of that writing happened on the ship. And when I was in my 20s, I was writing a novel a ton of that novel got written on the ship. And last two years ago, I started writing a book about my life as an entrepreneur.Molly Mandelberg 52:43And a lot of that got written on the ship too. It's a really beautiful way to get a lot of writing done because you don't have to cook anything. You don't have to go anywhere. There's nothing to do on a cruise ship. That's actually fun. So you're sort of forced to sit there and get things done.Mischa Zvegintzov 53:02And what a great conduit your mother. sounds like she is. and then also just being in the space with others to where like minded and...Molly Mandelberg 53:09collective consciousness of creation.Mischa Zvegintzov 53:12Beautiful. What do you think? Tell me the top three things you've learned from your mother over the years.Molly Mandelberg 53:20I've learned everything from my mother. I mean, I am most grateful for getting to witness her living a creative life successfully, that she was never someone telling me I should get a real job or I should pigeonhole myself into something that wasn't for me. She's been my biggest champion and supporter of living a very creative and, and conforming lifestyle. Which I'm sure was harder when I was younger and more crazy than the van life is really a stable life for me compared to who I used to be.Molly Mandelberg 53:55Yeah, a writer. I mean, I know so much about story crafting and about the process of letting a project come to life because of her. And most most grateful for the, the way she sees the world. I was raised believing in the law of attraction. believing in many lives and believing in like a higher consciousness, then religion would give me a view of. and so I'm really grateful for the spiritual understanding that I was raised with. And I think that's shaped me into a lot of the person that I've become because I had those as answers when I was asking questions as a kid.Mischa Zvegintzov 54:34That's unbelievable.Molly Mandelberg 54:35Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 54:37Any tension points with you and your mom over the years?Molly Mandelberg 54:40Oh, sure. Yeah, I mean, we have to rebel against something. It's so much more confusing when you're rebelling against just too much love but yeah...Mischa Zvegintzov 54:48OMG! that's amazing.Molly Mandelberg 54:50Yeah, she also remarried. When I was six she married very verbally abusive alcoholic who was her high school sweetheart.Molly Mandelberg 54:59So if You didn't see it at first. So a lot of my resistance with my mom was just resenting her for bringing that into our lives. But as I got wiser, I recognize that there was a part of me that chose that as my path so that I could arise from that. And that we were all... in my opinion... we all chose that dynamic coming in so that we could learn what we need to learn from it. which is pretty far out for some people who have been through trauma to try and recognize like, oh, I chose this, that there's been a lot of freedom and taking responsibility for that part of my life having gone like that. and then getting to choose to evolve from it. And so I stopped blaming her for that being a hard childhood.Mischa Zvegintzov 55:40Hmm. Hmm.Molly Mandelberg 55:41Yeah.Mischa Zvegintzov 55:43You remember, when that shift started taking place?Molly Mandelberg 55:47Yeah, I was like 28. 29. When my business started is when I started seriously, doing a lot of personal development work and healing, and taking my power back and giving up blaming other people for my life. And that was part of that process.Mischa Zvegintzov 56:12What was your entree into that? Was it like Tony Robbins? Or was it like, I mean,Molly Mandelberg 56:18I forget, but I was going, I've been to so many conferences and workshops and read hundreds of personal development books on healing and transformation. So it was the process of all that.Mischa Zvegintzov 56:30Hmm.Mischa Zvegintzov 56:33Just quick question, just for fun, like, somebody who's in that space, right? And we all come to that point, I believe. well, I don't know. Maybe not everybody. But I definitely come to those points have got to find forgiveness. Gotta take accountability. gotta... Right? And that's sort of some of those.Molly Mandelberg 56:51Yeah,Mischa Zvegintzov 56:52Bitch slap moments. And I think there's a difference between reading and then applying. Right? So I can keep reading about the things that you're talking about. reading these books, going to these conferences. But like, which, what, you know what I mean, like some people get stuck...Molly Mandelberg 57:10get some of the tools that have worked best for me, the work by Byron Katie, which is books that I've read, "Loving What Is" is a great book by Byron Katie, which covers the work. I had a lot of personal development and growth stuff happened at Thrive Academy, which is a business training program. But there's a lot of transformational development that comes in there. Access Consciousness is a entire modality school of thought that has dramatically changed my life and helped me see my point of view and question it on a regular basis that most of the big shifts in my energetic and like emotional body, life space has happened through Access Consciousness, and I won't go into what that is because it's so hard to define. And it is limitless. But if the words Access Consciousness resonate with you at all, I highly recommend looking it up watching YouTube about it. I'm reading some books. Dain Heer wrote a great book called Being You Changing the world, which is about Access Consciousness. And then,Mischa Zvegintzov 58:11Quick side note. I did a thing called tools for a Good Life Summit, where I brought in all these different modalities. And I reached out to I want to Dane, I was like, I want Dave to be your guide, but whatever he was, he was like, yeah, yeah. Anyway, but go on. So... Molly Mandelberg 58:28Yeah, totally, um... NLP was out as a lot of great healing and tools. And hypnotherapy was hugely transformational. For me too. IMolly Mandelberg 58:35think the main thing is, if you're aware that you could be happier. that your life could be greater. that your relationships could be more deep, or connected or communicative. You are the only one who can change any of that. And so when you start to recognize that... if your life is hard and struggling, and you're willing to take responsibility and be at cause for that changing. then you become the dowsing rod for the tools you're meant to use to get to where you want to go.Molly Mandelberg 59:03But staying in the stuck and staying in the story. And staying in the woe is me, everything's wrong, is just a continuation of the same wrongness on and on and on. And if you start to say, Okay, I'm willing to take charge now I'm willing to choose to change this, I'm willing to be aware of whatever I need to be aware of to make my life better or greater, or happier or more whole. Or stop being broke and have money now, whatever that looks like. You will b

*Warning. Today’s podcast contains details of parental bereavement. Caution advised* Today I feel like I’ve had one of the most impactful conversations on a personal level. I vividly remember watching Mo Gawdat’s interview on channel 4 news back in 2017 when he was touring and promoting his international bestseller “Solve for Happy”. His story of loss deeply touched me and changed my perspective on happiness and how to attain it. Mo wants you to achieve happiness and wants you to understand that “Happiness is easier to achieve than we’ve led to believe“. For me to have the opportunity to interview him 4 years later is just such a surreal privilege I cannot explain.Mo Gawdat is the former Chief Business Officer of Google [X], author of the international bestselling book Solve for Happy and founder of One Billion Happy. After a long career in tech, Mo has made happiness his primary topic of research, diving deeply into literature and conversing on the topic with some of the wisest people in the world. Mo is also the host of Slo Mo: A Podcast with Mo Gawdat, where he has the most wonderful conversations with the greatest minds of our time, including Dr Tara Swart, Alain de Botton, Mark Williamson. I highly recommend you dive into this library and if you find Mo’s voice as soothing and rhythmical as I do, you’ll love listening back to his episodes.A bit of back story to Mo, in 2014 he endured the tragic loss of Ali, his 21 yr old son, after routine surgery. Motivated by his loss, Mo began pouring his findings into his book, Solve for Happy. His mission to help one billion people become happier, #OneBillionHappy, is his attempt to honor Ali by spreading the message that happiness can be learned and shared. And this is exactly what you’ll hear about in today’s podcast. We talk about:Mo’s intention for the yearFlow and the various definitions of ‘flow state’The inability to sit with ourselvesThe tragic loss of Mo’s son and how that pushed his mission to ‘solve happy’A midlife crisis at age 29How his happiness equation is received cross culturallyDeath and a perspective on the pandemic that everyone should try I sincerely hope you enjoy it and that it inspires you to listen to more of Mo’s work including his own podcast and workshop videos on YouTube recorded at Stamford university, the links to which are on the podcast show notes found at www.thedoctorskitchen.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Angles of Lattitude Podcast: Learn from the Successes of the Creatively Self Employed
Believe it or not, but there's a lot of people in this world who are afraid to think big. The reason for this is pretty simple... at least to them. Why think of making a huge impact when you can't even get your own life straight? What I've learned is that having big goals and dreams actually helps one deal with the now. If we have a worthwhile goal, it allows us to prioritize it. And that, allows us to not prioritize what's good now... or at least the actions that might self sabotage us in the long run. In other words, if you have an elephant to eat, that's how you eat it - one bite at a time.In this session with friend of the show, with newly married Ya'el Johnson, Andy and I chat with her about what she's learned about life and success as she's taken control over her own life and destiny. This is a great lesson if you're new to the self development world, but also a great reminder for those of us who might feel down due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19. Enjoy! SPECIFICALLY, YOU'LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: How does Ya'el remember getting into the personal development space? 10:46According to Ya'el, why is it necessary for people to control what they can in their lives? 12:10What tips does she have for someone whose been living a horror story and are trying to get out? 19:25What got her interested in aiding in homelessness in the town she's living in? 23:33How can someone tackle a big project like homelessness in their own community? 27:48What can we expect to hear from Ya'el's podcast? 35:01What's going on for Ya'el in the not too distant future? 39:43Who are her three influencers or teachers who have helped launch her to where she's at today? 41:25What is the most powerful question she likes to ask her coaching clients? 41:59What message is out there that's a disservice to youth? 43:29How does Ya'el deal with getting overwhelmed? 46:22What's it mean to live a life of abundance? 47:50 ITEMS and PEOPLE MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Ya'el Online: Website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTubeCohost: Andy DixPowered By: Uncover Personal MissionBrendon Burchard - Millionaire MessengerRegis Philbin's passing and effect on the South Bend Community Right click here and save-as to download this episode to your computer. There's a lot of raw files on 02:06A lot bombs and and not to laugh, but it's again just giving us the opportunity to bounce back. And so our spiritual resilience and what that but that kind of shine. 02:15But they kind of shy so I like to start these off with, like, you know, the idea is that the creator speaks through us right and 02:25Universe energies, energy, whatever speaking through us today and it's delivering a message to one of our listeners that can only come through this instance right so what is that message that you would deliver to that person today. Spirit Guides02:40This is man, this is interesting because right before this, I got on. And I do this typically 02:45Every once in a while. I forget, but it's kind of my routine to get to 02:48Get into meditated mode. Before I go on, either my podcast or somebody else's and say, 02:54Let's let the message come through that needs to be heard the most that helps the most amount of people 02:59You know, it's interesting. I've never been asked to to pick what that message is. So you put me on the spot, but um you know i i think that maybe the messages. What you kind of 03:12You said spiritual resilience. I think that that's the message of this year. And that's the message, maybe of this podcast, because that's where we started going right away. And I think just 03:24The fact of the idea that human hearts are so resilient were built in Phoenix's were born to burn and we're born to rise. And I think that it's really 03:33Really important to remember that right now, when everything is burning down metaphorically or literally, you know. So I think it's really important that we remember how resilient. We actually are. brandon handley03:46Built in Phoenix is built on Phoenix's and Spirit Guides03:49I don't know where that came from. That was 03:52That was like our archangel brandon handley03:54Was it right that's it 100% you open yourself up to it and just allowed to kind of kind of come through. 04:02And that's exactly what it is. So, whoever's out there. Just know that you have this built in Phoenix, whatever is kind of sparking you right now. You can kind of fan that and rise up out of the ashes into something more boys than you ever were before. Right. 04:18Totally. Um, so let's let them give some background, right, who is Arizona bell 04:26Yeah, are you 04:27Doing here. Um, you know, give us the lowdown Spirit Guides04:30That's literally what I've been asking myself all year. Who am I, why am I here. No, you know, I 04:37I would have said, you know, for most of my life. Arizona bell is a writer, like, that was my identity that's that's who I showed up as and then a little, little bit over five years ago, about five and a half years ago. 04:50My mother passed away. She was my best friend. 04:53She was 59 when she passed away. I was 30 so that's pretty young, relatively speaking for both of us. And we were very, very close in it. It ripped my world apart. And that was my burned down moment and 05:05And eventually became my Phoenix moment, and it gave me, like I said, the fire under my butt to really step into my full 05:14Purpose and alignment, whereas before I was just sort of dabbling, you know, I was like dabbling one foot into my spiritual purpose and the other into really messing around, and not really committing to anything and 05:27You know, just that kind of stuff. And so, you know, after my mom passed. I did the grieving thing for her, you know, I'm still doing the grieving thing, but I did that pretty hardcore. And then I woke up one day and I said okay like 05:39I'm going to do this, I'm going to do what Spirit wants me to do. So I basically surrendered to that to spirit to source to God to divine energy, whatever you want to call it. I said, All right, listen. 05:52I get that I'm here for a reason. Show me what that reason is. Bring it to me every day and I'll do it. So you know I stepped into service mode. Basically, which I wasn't able to do before I hit rock bottom. And with that. 06:05Came the starting of my company, which originally. Like I said, my background. 06:09Background was in writing. So I started a little digital magazine called spirit guides magazine, because I 06:15I was young, relatively young in the spiritual world and I saw that there was a huge void of spirituality being targeted to younger generations and therefore there's a huge disconnect because 06:26People my age millennials and younger weren't really connecting with 06:31The kinds of websites and graphics and conferences and kind of that that were sort of felt a little bit outdated, but we were hungering for spiritual knowledge so that was kind of the reason I started it. 06:42And that little Instagram magazine has now evolved to a media company we're called spirit guides media and within it. We have podcasts. We're starting a radio station books. 06:54Everything courses and thrown a festival with my good friend from conscious living PR Mona. So we just got everything going on. So that's kind of a hope I answered the question. I don't, I don't know how to fully say who I am or why I'm here. But that's a star, I guess. brandon handley07:09Sure how that that it's a lot for us to work with. Right. So, that is how you and I connected we connected through Mona, Lauren, who was one of the first guest on this podcast. 07:20And you know so super glad that we were able to get connected through her 07:25Checked out spirit. Guys, you've got a lot going on there. Looks like it's kind of a community right of built up around spirituality and. Is that what the intention is just kind of a community for, like, you know, will say for a younger generation. Is that what you're saying. Spirit Guides07:43You know, absolutely. The intention was to build a spiritual community. And even though we are gearing towards gearing it more towards 07:52Visually towards younger people. I mean, spirituality is for everybody. So I have people across the board, you know, but we did. We did kind of dominate that you know 08:0318 to 34 demographic. I mean, that's, that is what our demographic is. And of course there's outliers and the young at heart, and all that. But we did want to make it fresh and hip, you know, and that that was an intention and definitely 08:17The spiritual community aspect of because for me. My personal story is, I was the lone wolf on the spiritual path. I didn't have, you know, I wasn't raised religious I didn't have a spiritual community, as in the spiritual closet, to be frank, so 08:30I did this year I did the spirituality thing by myself. And so I really did want to create a community. 08:37For those that might be feeling the same way. And luckily, with the world that we're living in with technology. It's easier to do that, you know, like we're doing this on zoom right now and and so I'm able to hold courses and 08:49workshops and the festival, even now online and as membership community, so it's it's all able to be done online and it's it's absolutely to have a spiritual community in such a weird time brandon handley09:03And there's no no better time for us so funny you mentioned your demographics, because you're pulling off is right where I started on my demographics. Right. 09:12Right on. And that's and that's simply because I speak to my generation, right. So you're speaking to your generation, you know the language you know on the spiritual connection. 09:21From that perspective. Right. And that's not to say, like you said, there's gonna be there's gonna be people. There's going to be the outliers that you attract but like you're able really well able to speak to that specific group. Spirit Guides09:33Right but but it ends there because I don't do Tick tock. So I don't know. 09:37I don't know how much younger. I can get that brandon handley09:40Tick tock. Tick tock. Some is Spirit Guides09:43For sure. brandon handley09:44Somebody platforms right I'm and I'm doing I'm doing what I do. 09:49Exactly. 09:50So, so I get it, I get it. 09:53When you know I want to give also this kind of premise of what you were into before you got into the spiritual realm, who and what type of content. Were you writing before you got in the conscious 10:08Conscious right Spirit Guides10:09Sure. You know, I think, well, I was doing a couple things. There was what I was doing for work. I was very fortunate to get paid to be a writer. I know a lot of people in the writing world. 10:21seek that out. And what that I was writing for what pays. I was writing for medical journals and medical magazines and medical medical medical I was writing for universities, things like that. 10:34But the big bucks were in the medical field. I was the editorial director at a magazine for physicians and an assistant assistant editor at a magazine an international magazine for doctors and dentists so 10:49And, you know, with my mom passing away, she had cancer. So I was all up in the medical industry going through it with her and I just found myself writing things that I didn't agree with. And so, it hit me. 11:01For a while, I mean, I don't want to get to the specifics, but 11:06Yeah, just 11:09Just the sick, I would call the sickness industry of the of the medical industry and just a lot of things that there were ignoring about actually keeping people healthy and I had to start to believe that maybe there was a an ulterior motive to keep people sick. 11:26So I and I was publishing stuff like that, you know, and that's all up for a matter of opinion, but from what I saw firsthand. 11:35In the medical world with my mom and the unfairness. I will call it of that world I it wasn't jiving for me on a soul level to be writing those things anymore. So there was a there was a pick on my soul that was like, ding, ding, ding, like, hey, you can't 11:49This doesn't feel right and you care about integrity. Don't forget that you care about integrity. Now, on, on the flip side, in my own personal selves. I was always drawn towards I guess soul centered content. 12:03I called it love I called it like I was thinking more romantic love than spiritual, but I, I was always wanting to write about love and like 12:11That kind of stuff. And like relationships and things like that, but um I so I was doing that on the side as well. I was writing for literary magazines and things like that. brandon handley12:21That's fun. That's fun. But I'll tell you what I can. I know what you're talking about with that little prick in the soul resonates with me real hard. I was in the insurance industry. 12:32For a little bit. Right. And I was like, well, you know, you would you do demographics and you would do. 12:40Do a risk assessment on the group as a whole. Right. And there's a sick person or two in there. 12:45You're rich got jacked up with this doesn't make much sense you know these people need the insurance. We're going to raise the rates on them because they need it because they are sick because they are going to use it. 12:53Or industry codes right same thing happens with industry codes. If they're in of, you know, riskier business type 13:00Their insurance rates are going to go up because they've got the they're going to get the most well this person's gone in here. So we're gonna have to race, the race to cover that. So, um, I left, I left. 13:10For very same thing. I was like, for a couple reasons. Actually, one was because of that soul prick right to was because and nothing wrong with people getting off on work every day you know into an office, but I couldn't stand it. I was in my 20s and watching people that were zombies. 13:27Right. What are these these these a tweet covered offices, you know, walk right. I was like, I was like, if this is gonna be my toys. Spirit Guides13:35Yep. Oh, I completely relate to that. Yeah. I mean, look at me, I'm like, 13:40There's no way I can sit in an office. I mean, 13:42I gave it my go you know I gave it my best go but somehow every job i got i ended up 13:48And again, I told you this before. My mom was German. So I was raised with good work ethic. I know how to work hard and so I'd like work hard, prove myself, and then I'd be like, Listen, I gotta start working from home like this isn't working for me. 13:59You know, and somehow I always talk them into it. I guess that's a skill I have but 14:04But yeah, I wasn't meant for that either. I totally hear what you're saying and you know that that unfairness. As I said in that you as you just so eloquently described in the insurance industry. It goes, it goes in every, you know, it's like in the banking industry like brandon handley14:17Somebody who Spirit Guides14:17More like living paycheck to paycheck has to pay the fee to like have a bank account and then you know somebody who has loads of money doesn't have to pay a fee doesn't make sense that brandon handley14:28You know, you know it does. In the end, right, like, but you know we're not going to get into it. Right. 14:34But it's like, Come on, man. Um, so, so you're writing for like medical journals and all this other stuff. You have this kind of bent 14:45You go through this and they jump into the spirituality, his face. I want to want to share with kind of 14:51Peoples. And what was it like for you to begin to lead with spirituality. After what you've been doing your entire life and the Jeff overcoming fears deal with anybody was like, What are you thinking that type of thing. Spirit Guides15:05Oh, big time. Yeah. As far as overcoming fears. So I'll just say a couple things I had the idea for spirit guides 15:14In my head tagline AND EVERYTHING FOR YEARS. YEARS. YEARS. YEARS BEFORE. My mom passed away years I knew I wanted to do it and not even that I wanted to. It was like it was just implanted in my mind my spirits like you're gonna you're going to need to do this. 15:28And I started to get worried when the because i'm a i'm an idea person. So I get lots of ideas. I was starting to get worried when the idea didn't go away because 15:35It doesn't go away. Dang, it's meant for you, you know, brandon handley15:38So, Spirit Guides15:39But I was too scared I was making pretty good money to be creative, you know, who am I to do this. And also, like I mentioned, I'm in the spiritual closet. Okay, I'm a party girl. 15:50On one on one hand, and then I'm a spiritual girl when I go home like it. I did not have spiritual friends. You know what I'm saying. 15:58So there's a lot of fears to overcome. But again, when I got that asked my ass kicked by grief and loss and seeing death firsthand. It was like, all right, you got to live your life and you got to do this. So I basically like 16:13I just kind of like came out of the closet and like didn't like I didn't even make a thing of it like I just was like one day I owned a spiritual media company. 16:22And, you know, some people were like, what are you getting up to these days, you know, but it was it was a leap that I took private privately and probably shocked. Some people when I did it, but I didn't want to go around having to explain myself to a bunch of people so brandon handley16:37That makes a lot of sense. Um, and you're a lot of different types of coaching business Christians question spiritual around to like you know don't have to go share your ideas with others. I'm just go do it right again. Good. 16:51And that was Spirit Guides16:51That was what I chose to do in that moment, because it honestly it made the most sense. brandon handley16:56Of it and then so 16:59You start, you know, I don't know how somebody just goes to earning a 17:04media company, right. So what was that process like did you have to get investors or she is fired off like 17:10On to the Instagram bit or did you find some people to back you, that type of thing. Spirit Guides17:15Now it was completely driven by spirit. And again, I was in surrender mode by that point. So I was like, 17:22I had an arrangement with spirit is like if you want me to do it. You got to bring it to me because I'm not going to go around. 17:28Chasing after all this stuff. So I'm very fortunate that my brother and business partner is a tech developer. So I had that 17:37And I basically called up one of my friends who was a another co founder who became another co founder with us, who I knew was into spirituality and could handle you know some of the things like social media all this stuff. And we just got together as a trio and and literally it was 17:54You know, like guerrilla style startup and 17:58And now the third party left, and it's just me and my brother and we're still we're still running it in that way. And I like that way. I mean, I wish I could sit here and tell you that I had some 18:08Big plan, you know, I, my German mom would have wanted me to have a better laid out plan. But I went with it. You know, I just, we just started on Instagram and started hyping it up because that's where all the kids were and we were trying to, you know, 18:24That's where the kids Billy says where they used to hang out with. So that's where we were talking to, at that time, and 18:30We started to get a following. And then we just launched and and honestly all all I had in mind was to launch a digital magazine. 18:39And because I was a writer. That's all I wanted. You know, and I eventually wanted to write books and stuff. But from that is like all this stuff because I made that arrangement with spirit. 18:48Now I'm like podcast Aston radio station and festival. All these things were like, not my ideas are now they've overrun the thing. So now it's like it's got a mind of its own. brandon handley19:00Reminds me of the Michael singer. Yeah, sort of experiment right um 19:07So talk about what is surrender. Spirit Guides19:11What is surrender mode. Well, I think there's two kinds of surrender mode. There's a surrender mode where we think we're surrendering 19:19Where we say we're surrendering which was me a lot. I mean, I was 19:23I've always been drawn towards spiritual and esoteric stuff so I knew I was writing before my mom that I was writing you know happiness is surrender. That's where you find happiness, but I wasn't doing it. 19:34I wasn't doing it fully. And I only realized that when I did it fully in that was when I had to when I had to fall to my knees. 19:43Because there was nothing else there and, you know, Marianne Williamson, I'm probably going to butcher the, quote, but she says something along the lines of 19:51There's a certain desperation that's required before you're ready to face God and something like that. And that's how I felt. And so to me, that is surrender mode where it's 20:02I am here to serve. 20:05Your like basically I'm using my free will to serve your will spirit. 20:12So it's 20:13To me, that's true. Surrender mode, not just like, Oh, it's okay. Let it go. That bad thing, you know, but actually surrendering to a will, that's greater than your own that's greater than your own ego as well and showing up for it every day reliably brandon handley20:29How do you show up for every day, right, like so. I get it. I love this. I love that. I love the idea of 20:36You know surrender. And it's really kind of how we started the podcast right now less fear talk through you to the listener. Right. And then that Phoenix between now and then there's a. It's kind of like the let go and let God right 20:50Right. brandon handley20:51But to actually, you know, to say it's one thing Spirit Guides20:54How to do it. brandon handley20:55How to do it without freaking out, man. Right, without freaking out because Spirit Guides21:00I never said I didn't freak out. brandon handley21:03I love it. So, um, Spirit Guides21:04But I will say this, I will say this. I mean I I wake up every morning and I meditate and I pray, basically I do that combo and and part of my prayer in my meditation is to say 21:19You know, use me how you want to use me today. 21:22And so that's a way for me that's like a action point for me every morning to state my intention which matters a lot that I'm here to be used for spirits will basically. And so whatever shows up for me that day. 21:38I'm going to do it. brandon handley21:40Yeah assessments. Nice. Right. Um, and then the other part two is 21:50Just the idea that these things keep opening up for you. And I mentioned kind of the surrender experiment from 21:56Michael singer. And the reason I mention it because once you kind of open yourself up to it to be used to be used in service through this universal power. 22:05And I love how you said you know I'm not going for it. It's going to have to come to me right 22:11You said you know what you want. This is what I want. But you know what, I surrender for you to show me the way type of thing, you know, talk a little bit about that because I think that that's 22:21That's very important. Right. I'm a big fan of the idea is like its first of all, most people won't like you said, you know what you want it right you know what you want to do you want to be a writer. 22:31You wanted to start this media company and dig into it, but you didn't know how, but now you got it. Is it fair to say Spirit Guides22:39Yeah, definitely. brandon handley22:40And so this is the point that I'm trying to drive home is that you don't have to know how, but you do have to make the decision that that's what you want a life and that's what I feel like you've done Spirit Guides22:51Right. But I agree with you. You don't have to know how I am living proof of that. You do have to know what what I will say is that asked 23:00For what, when I sit in prayer and meditation every day. I mean, I feel like that's a crucial point 23:07Because we're 23:09I had to. I had to. I didn't know that I always wanted to be a writer because I have that God given skill. 23:16You know, so that's a, that's a natural way for me to go but 23:22I didn't know. I didn't even know what necessarily either. I had to listen in meditation, like I didn't know that I was going to start a media company. 23:30Or a you know that I was gonna, I didn't even know was going to do a podcast. I didn't know the podcast was going to turn into a an internet radio station. I've got those downloads and meditation and prayer. You know what I'm saying. 23:42So, but, and I will, I will circle back to the one thing that I did know is I knew I wanted to be a writer, and I knew that starting this digital magazine basically 23:53would grant, grant me a following. And I knew that in the publishing world today because I had been told this by writers by published writers that you have to have a following to even get looked at basically 24:04Well, and the magic numbers like 10,000, you know. So what we hit 10,000 and then it just kept expanding and expanding and expanding and I was so damn busy. Next thing you know, we're at 50,000 followers and I'm saying to spirit, listen. 24:20I still haven't written the book actually haven't even written 24:23So I'm not going to go around chasing a book deal if you want me to write a book you bring it to me. Now that sounds absurd. 24:29But three months later I had an email in my inbox, saying, hey, we have this book. It's already sold to this major publisher and we think you're great to write it, do you, what do you think brandon handley24:40So they have the concept of the book. 24:42Yeah works on a writer and they needed a writer. 24:45And you read it. Yeah. Spirit Guides24:47And that's the thing these days, they already sell the concept of books, but you know now that sets me up to write the book that I want to write to write the books that I really want to write, you know what I'm saying. So 24:56It's a pause for a second, though, because you know brandon handley25:00There's also the again. 25:04There's, there's the idea of, you know, feeling a little bit of a law of attraction space, making the demand was fear, right, or like the idea of you asking it is given and just let it come to you. 25:17Right right hand to me right if I'm coming from a law of attraction space. I'm like, Hey, I'm here, how to end up here. You're living example of this right and or of 25:28Trusting the universe is another right as like your benefactor, you're like hey universe. This is what I like. You can just go ahead and have that show up. I'm not going to go chasing it 25:40But then it shows up, and you're like, Well, what's next. Spirit Guides25:43Right. And that, that means that means it's for you because you you can go out there and say hey universe. This is what I want. 25:52I'm not going to chase it bring it to me and you're not, you might not get it. 25:57Because it's not meant for you. brandon handley25:58And that's great too. Right. Like I make the lines of, you know, if I would have had a lot of money. When I was younger, or like an open like have liked it. Like, I felt like I wanted, I probably would have died. 26:11Like, I mean, right, it would have been a bad. So the universe is like no 26:16No, no bad idea, right, you're not ready for that. Sorry. 26:20Yeah, and or we don't want you right now, right, you've got more things to do. And that's, that's another thing that I kind of look at this as like if you made it this far in your life and like you're 26:28Still kind of wandering around. I like you know for the for the person that is 26:33So meaningful life, you know, perhaps there is and you know you guys start figuring that out because there's no reason for you still be here. 26:40One 400 what a trillion to be born and make it through like not get hit by a car or a bus eaten all that crazy crappy thing that G and just in some of whatever we know what you're doing out there. Right. But you've lived 26:52And and and and so you've got a purpose and to live it. So one of the purposes that you found is by going through, you know, kind of hitting this rock bottom right, I want to just 27:03dive off dependency the grief coach and afterlife expert aspect of it because we haven't yet. Um, let's talk about how you ends up even there. Spirit Guides27:12Sure. I mean, it's kind of a wild story, um, 27:17Because I, I didn't want to end up there that wasn't I joke. I never thought in my life. I want to be a grief and afterlife expert. 27:26Can can promise you that. But, you know, after my mom passed away. And after I did the really hardcore grieving for for a while. 27:36I just, I think, you know, I had already started spirit guides and I was like, you know, 27:41Like, I want to go train to be a grief coach and it just kind of came to me and I was like, all right, I'll start looking into programs and I did and I found one. And I went and I liked it and i and i just got trained. You know, I just did it, but 27:55But, and I wasn't even 27:57I didn't even know what I was going to do with it. I just felt intuitively intuitively nudge there. So I did it. And then shortly very shortly after I had a medium ship reading 28:09And the medium. Then in the middle, in the middle of it. She's like, and she's a very, very, I had to wait a year to get a meeting with her. She's a very, very popular medium and 28:23In the middle of that she's like, What are you doing, I need to 28:27And she's like, I'm so I'm not gonna take up your time of your reading. But after this. I need to talk to you what you're doing. Like my spirit guides are telling me I need to talk to you. 28:34So we end up having a chat and she's like, Oh, I told her about spirit guides, like I've been trying to reach younger people, and she's like you and then a week later I got an email from her. And she said, I want to invite you to be to speak at this afterlife conference. 28:49And I was like, 28:51I'm not 28:54Know that, like, I'm not qualified to be here and she wrote back, I'll never forget it. And she's like, Arizona, my dear, I have been told that you are going to be a very profound afterlife researcher and you need to be at this event. And I was like, what 29:07So I went to this event to and I sat on a panel talking about spirituality, like in younger generations and my mind blew way open because I didn't know much about the afterlife, other than 29:21My mom had died. I hope she was still alive and I went to a medium to find out, you know, 29:26So I guess the, the, that's the long answer. The short answer is, like, Spirit just drove me there and And ever since that first conference, it was just so obvious that that's what I was going to be doing that I had a place in that world for whatever reason. brandon handley29:43So along with being a CEO media company you're also doing like this grief coach. Is that right, Spirit Guides29:51Yeah, you know, and you know, I hadn't dove into the coaching part as much as I wanted to. Originally, just because I have been so busy now with 30:03And and people grieving everything because grief, you know, grief, there's a misconception. That's grief, just for 30:11a loved one who's passed away grief is for any change dramatic change in your world, which we are collectively experiencing like all of the changes right now, so I am 30:24Drawing more back into that coaching aspect and I'm starting to get some things lined up in that way because I think it's so important and and I've been basically advised by all of my spiritual advisors that that's something that I need to get going on right now too, so brandon handley30:40I love it. Right. So just a little bit about what it means right to 30:45Examine death and use this kind of as a catalyst to live our riches, the most meaningful lives. Spirit Guides30:53Sure. So what people don't know is that there's so much afterlife research out there. 30:59It's not mainstream so we don't hear about it or you know it's not it's doesn't get MAJOR FUNDING so we don't hear about it, but there's so much independent afterlife research outfit out there and there's so much documentation that to me proves that consciousness exists beyond 31:18beyond physical death right i totally spaced out your question, though. I'm gonna go go off on a tangent 31:24Oh, Spirit Guides31:27I get into my afterlife brain. And I'm like, Okay. brandon handley31:30So before I let you go into the next piece of what would it so somebody wants to go buy some information for themselves in the afterlife research. Where's the first place that you would direct them. Spirit Guides31:43So there's an. There's an organization called the afterlife. Research and Education Institute AR e AI and they are great starting off point. 31:53I feel bad because I didn't fully answer your last question, but my mind. brandon handley31:56Told me Spirit Guides31:58But, uh, anyway. So that's a great place to start off at 32:02And they, you know, they are doing research, their funding researchers, all kinds of stuff and and they're just signing up on their newsletter. There's also 32:11There's a newsletter that is run by a couple in Australia. That's really famous. It's called the Friday afterlife report and every Friday, they send out a newsletter of all this afterlife research that's either 32:23From the past or that's come up in the past week there's tons of it out there. So those are the two places I would start the afterlife report. It's with Victor and Wendy's dammit, and then AR e AI afterlife. Research and Education Institute or brandon handley32:38So the question we had was, um, how's examining death. And what happened was the absolute best way to move on. Spirit Guides32:48So, yes, yes, yes, yes. See, now that's a very important question. That's why I was having a hard time letting it go. Um, it's so important because of all the research that's out there, which is what I was getting into. 33:02It proves beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind, from what I've seen. And what I've learned and what I've experienced and what I've researched that 33:10our physical bodies dies die, but our souls. Do not that we continue to live in the afterlife. Okay, so with that being said, the information that our loved ones that spirit guides 33:23That Spirit Guides33:25That arc angels, all of these beings and entities that are in on the other side, the information that can be channeled through them is so vital. 33:37To how we live our best lives. So it's, it's an interesting paradox because we don't tend to think about death or the afterlife until we're faced with it because we're so busy thinking about life and 33:47How we can live our best lives, but from what I've learned is that we can learn a lot about living our best lives from that wisdom that comes through the other side. 34:00And it's a shame that people I feel it's a shame that people my age don't get to do that very often because I'm the youngest one at these events. Okay, like 34:09I still don't know many people that have lost their primary you know parent or something like that, that in my age group, and my peer group so they feel like they are 34:19getting robbed of that wisdom because they're not going to go looking into the death or the afterlife. So I do kind of feel like 34:26It's my job to sort of bridge that gap because there's so much knowledge about how we can best live our lives that comes from looking at those more taboo topics. brandon handley34:37You know what's funny to me is just this morning I was listening to a song, ya know which one I listened to so many um I got a Swami the chain. I'm the 34:49But the idea is that, like, there's one in 1000 that's capable of kind of taking this information right that the what you got. Right, so 35:00You're kind of the light is lighting all those around you, as it were, with what you do. So I think that that's kind of the challenge, no matter what age group is 35:09Right when you when you kind of stumble across this you know it's like you're saying you're like everybody needs to know that you can live this magnificent way. Let's follow me. We're gonna sneak in and and 35:20Rightfully nobody's like I was like, no. 35:23Um, but what I want to hit on though is that, you know, when you experienced this grief when you experienced though your mother's passing 35:36I guess like ripping the veil right between you and the spirit world and 35:42Would you, would you explain it like that. Would you describe it like that. And would you 35:47Would you describe your experience with trying to share this information with other people is being challenging and not being able to accept it. Spirit Guides35:56Um, 35:59Yeah there it was totally an unveiling will say brought me so much closer. I mean, it was even the night, my mom passed away I her apparition came to me and I was awake, like, and she came and hugged me so the veil yeah it thinned an immensely immediately. 36:20Has the information been hard for me to get out and for people to accept. 36:27I want the answer to be that it's been really difficult. Like for dramatic effect, but it hasn't it hasn't. And I think that's because 36:37I'm attracting the people that want it. I'm not, I'm not trying to go out there and be a missionary or 36:44Or an evangelical about anything, you know, and I have zero religious ties or affiliation, which is interesting with afterlife. I mean, every, every 36:53Every serious spiritual or I'm sorry, every spirit serious religion has believed in the afterlife and has after life. 37:01Philosophy and I think that, you know, obviously, a lot of people thrown out religion in their lives. And I think that was kind of like we threw the baby out with the bathwater, kind of thing. 37:10So I'm not, I'm not attached to any religion or anything like that. So I don't think that I come off as missionary. I just think I, I tried to share my authentic experience and people who are looking for. 37:23Some answers to their own grief. They find me and it's so far the. The result has been one of comforting for them, rather than 37:34You know, combative or I don't believe what you're saying. So I maybe I'm fortunate in that but you know it hasn't it hasn't been too difficult. It's actually been very rewarding. I think brandon handley37:44I can see that, especially online. What about a person Spirit Guides37:48Well in person. It's like I'm 37:49Preaching the choir, you know, I'm going to 37:52But I will say this, I will say, even in my because I told you about my history as a, you know, being in the spiritual closet and everything, even the people in my life who like my family who's known me forever and 38:02You know weren't into these things at all. They just by osmosis have 38:07By coming to my events by hearing my podcast, things like that. And now they're there, you know, exploring their own stuff and their own afterlife. And now they've 38:16Had certain people passed away and they're reaching out to mediums and investigating like oh yeah I remember Arizona said this, so let me invest it on my own. So it's kind of like planting the seeds, you know, brandon handley38:27Not 100% i think that what you've done is, is by your by leading by example you've given them permission. Right. 38:33Yeah, showing them that you can step into the space without going on claims. 38:39Right, right. That is a good that it can be a good thing. Um, I like that you kind of touched on, you know, kind of these religions and throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and 38:51As far as I can tell right religions are kind of like this. 38:56Again, just like one of the thousands going to kind of understand this information right and then my kind of wants to do this just the whole 39:03You know, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear right and then does you like Panda hated that lines real 39:11Quick. Um, but the thing. And I think that's the attraction of some of the Eastern philosophies right because they've been so the console like 39:19Christianity bad, you know, the pope did this and you know those priests did that and all these things so that like they just won't accept it, even though, like the exact same thing as being in 99% of the same 39:30thing over here and like these Eastern religions and they're all if you got a contract is out, man. Look what I found, like 39:36You know, so I think that it really gives us people the opportunity to framework right for for their space. 39:43And for everybody else is kind of rejected if there's people like yourself, and I don't like, well, there's this other space. We can hang out into what's been said and all these other places, but you just want to have this different same conversation. Let's do it. 39:54Right, right, right. Um, 39:56Let's talk about 39:57The fest coming up. So this is podcast, I'm probably you know this weekend, which will I know the dates are like 928 or something like that. 40:09But you know what's the festival. Let's talk about what you got a Spirit Guides40:12Spiritual brandon handley40:13On 2020 Spirit Guides40:14Cool. Yeah. So it's the conscious spirit fest. It's a collaboration between myself. 40:20And my company spirit guides media and Mona Loring and her company conscious living PR and so it's conscious spirit fest. It's on October 10 or no, it's not. It's on October 18 I was thinking 10 for October is on October 18 2020 40:36It's a Sunday, and it's basically it's an all day online virtual festival, because that's what we're doing now virtual all day long and 40:45We're so excited about it. We basically curated the event that we wanted to have right now. 40:51You know we are lonely and isolated and we do need spiritual community, one way or another right now. And so we wanted to build something for people to 41:02Unite and people who who are want to focus on Unity right now in this crazy polarized role. And so we've. We have everything from yoga in the morning to guided meditations to sound healing to breath work. And then we have amazing speakers that are talking about everything from 41:21How to deal with this pandemic burnout to energy protection for light workers, we're going to have a medium come and do live medium ship readings and we our keynote speaker is column Adele, who's an astrologer, and he's going to be talking about 41:38You know the astrology coming up, you know, for 20 2021 and all that. And in astrology in these uncertain times and what what what we might have to look forward to, you know, the good, the bad, and the ugly or whatever. 41:51So, so, yeah. It's basically a day for everybody to come together and do all things mystical and create a spiritual community and 41:58And hang out together. So we're really, really excited about it. brandon handley42:02Now this sounds exciting. Like I said, you know, I think I saw Mona's paying off on Instagram. I saw start following it, and it seems like you know 42:10I love what you guys are putting together their talk to me a little bit about the astrologer, I think he's got like a little bit of a baton. What's his What's his Spirit Guides42:17So called Collins handle on Instagram is queer cosmos. And so he has he's he's and he is 42:24He's an amazing gay man and he started doing astrology for the queer community and which is was novel at the time, you know, and but more than that. I mean, he is 42:35He's one of my favorite guests have on my podcast. I'll say that right now. He's so enjoyable. He's brilliant. I mean IQ off the charts and he's he's so fun. So anytime that he's around. It's a good time. And I definitely recommend following him on Instagram at clear cosmos. He's great. brandon handley42:55So yeah, I remember that you're seeing them and chocolate. 42:59Yeah. brandon handley43:00Funny Guy when I grew up. I grew up, like in the gay community, you know, was out in San Francisco, San Francisco in the 80s right and and the one thing that happened out there was like my mom was an altercation with 43:16Her significant other, at the time, and he ended up by children and stuff. And so I ran across it, you know, the neighborhood and got these guys on the bed and they came. I can't rescue my mom so 43:28Oh wow, for the rest of my life, you know, gay guys have a 43:30Have a soft spot in my heart. Right. And it's just been in that community. It's, it's fun, right. Like, I mean, Spirit Guides43:36Oh, there's no doubt about that. brandon handley43:37So it's always a good time. 43:39See on 43:40Where, you know, should I send people to come check out more actually know what before I do that, 43:45I've done this for a minute, just because you know so the idea to have spiritual though. 43:48Is that you get this kind of you for high thru spirituality. Right. And that's like on the on the take us a spiritual dope is about that and then like 43:58You know, what's your spiritual hit right like and it talks about meditation, but when you when you're connected to source where, what does that look like Spirit Guides44:08Whoo. Yeah, there's, there's two for me. So definitely meditation. I'm a avid meditation or 44:15But their original Oh gee, writing, man. That's my space. That's my timelessness, that's the 44:20One place where I don't care if I haven't eaten and that's saying a lot. I love to eat. You know what I'm saying. Like that's that's the time where time flies and I just 44:30I'm in so much joy and I'm so inspired. I'm in spirit. You know that's that's where it is for me is when I'm writing. And so this man I'm preaching to myself right now. I got to clear it more time in my schedule to do it. 44:43But yeah, that's my spiritual dope for sure is is being in that creative zone. 44:50I love that question. brandon handley44:52Thank you. So the idea that too is like i mean i would i would i would say that 45:00You know, create you are creators right 45:03Yeah. And then when you surrender to that creativity. That's 45:08within you, right, that is source flowing through you. Is that fair to say Spirit Guides45:13Oh yeah 100%. I mean, we would we call God the Creator. And if you look at metaphysical principles as above, so below. We are here to create 45:26You know, and that's why that nine to five working somebody else's dream and fluorescent lit room didn't work for me because I felt that called to be creative. I felt, what am I doing here, if I'm not creating brandon handley45:37Something Spirit Guides45:38And now you can be creative, creative doesn't mean writing or painting all the time, creative can mean coming up with a scientific cure for cancer or whatever, you know, using your creative brain. You're in passionate about it. And so I absolutely agree with you. brandon handley45:52I love that you hit on life because 45:55People don't always recognize that they feel like creativity has to be writing painting singing, dancing. Spirit Guides46:02Brain, the arts. brandon handley46:03The classical arts 46:05Yeah, right. But 46:08And I know as somebody one day. 46:11You just got it. What is it that you'd like to create and I'm like, Well, I'm not very creative like 46:14You know you're raising kids are doing this that the other than your training things right, you're making moments, you're creating moments I mean creativity is more than, you know, put a pretty picture right so I love that you hit on that. Thanks for hanging on that. 46:29Yeah, what type of meditation do you do it, you Spirit Guides46:34Got just you didn't do not asked me that question. 46:37I am I am not. 46:39Trained in meditation at all. I'm self taught and 46:44For whatever reason, I'm pretty good at it. I just I lay down you can see my bed back there. I lay down horizontally. I don't sit in lotus position or anything I lay down on my bed. 46:54I play some Native American flute music and I go in 46:57Los brandon handley46:59That's great to write in terms of meditation or a feeling it's got to be done a certain way or like, yeah, I did a really shitty meditation this morning. Spirit Guides47:09I i think 47:11I think I you know it's the keep it simple, stupid like that's that's been my philosophy for 47:17My spiritual path and it's what's worked out for me. Like I and I you know in my company I've seen it all. I promote people that do it all. I'm talking like all the all the modalities and the 47:29Divination tactics and all this stuff and I'm Oh gee prayer and meditation and you know we all just got to do what works for us. brandon handley47:38To so they 47:40Just show us what your prayer. Looks like I always say this because I think of this Norman Vincent feel kind of skip 47:49It's not as good. It's like when he's doing his own in power positive thinking thing. 47:53And talks about this lady testing because you when you pray you don't like out there like a beggar. 47:59You know, you're like oh please give me all these things would you like you demand you know much very somewhere, come what you're talking about, like, 48:07I'm not going after it. It's got to come to me like these are things I want you know. So what's your, what's your prayer look like. Just out of curiosity, Spirit Guides48:13Yeah, I mean it's it. That is a good point it start, the only it starts always with gratitude. 48:20Always with gratitude and and then I do go into my demands. I do feeling that I've, I've had the shift from beggar to 48:30You know, this is, this is what I this is what is going to be brought to me and I, and I've learned that over time through spiritual mentors, saying, you know, you 48:38This is yours for the taking. You can you demand that so I start with gratitude and and I pray for you know what I need. In most of the time that's to take away my 48:50Worries and stresses and concerns because that's the only thing in my way. So I do pray for that to be taken and I pray for the people that I love and I pray that 49:02You know that love walks before me wherever I go. And then I pray to be used, how spirit needs me. And then I say, thank you. 49:11Yeah. brandon handley49:12Um, this will be like my last question. 49:17So when you. I like the idea of writing when you write 49:24With a pen in hand right or doesn't have to be. But I feel like that's what I'm most connected. I like to call it cosmic record player. This is my cosmic needle right 49:36You know, do you have a preference of writing by hand or typing. Spirit Guides49:41I'm 49:43I'm right differently. I write, I write both ways. And I write for different reasons I I write. I typically write 49:52Pen in Hand in my journal when I'm writing for myself and nobody else if that makes sense. And for my own clarity and my own as you say connection. 50:03But it's all about the computer for everything else. 50:07My hand hurts too much. brandon handley50:10Out of out of curiosity, right, like yourself. Once Spirit Guides50:13I do agree with you though there's there's different 50:16A whole different vibe. When you got the pen in your hand. Right, right. brandon handley50:20Now, and look, I mean, it takes a lot to to write Tom by paper. 50:27Pretty fast, man. Spirit Guides50:28Yeah, exactly. brandon handley50:31Okay, so where we're gonna need to go a couple places or warm place. So we're gonna go to find you and the spirit fast. Spirit Guides50:39Sure, I'm okay. Ultimately, you can go to spirit guides media.com for everything that I do. And on top of the navigation. 50:48At spirit guides media com you will see a link that says festival and that is where you can learn more about it. You can see the lineup. The full lineup. I didn't touch on everything. 50:58And also purchase tickets and we are offering a sliding scale pay what you can because times are tough and that is 51:05I feel the responsible thing to do. So we have that offered and other than that, you can find me on instagram at spirit guides media or my personal one is at underscore Arizona bell. I think that covers everything brandon handley51:20No. 51:22Um, well, this event view digitally after the past Spirit Guides51:28Great question. Can't believe I forgot to say that. Absolutely. So if you are able to catch none of it live or half of it live or all of it live and want to watch it again. We will send out a replay of the entire day video. So you'll get to see it all. brandon handley51:43Awesome, Arizona. Thank you so much for stopping by. Spirit Guides51:45Thanks, Brandon. It's been a joy and a pleasure.

Transcription:James Linder 0:03Every health system is looking at their labor stack if you will. Who does what work? How is work getting done? How's the care provided? So I do believe we will get to a different care delivery model than we had in December of 2019. And hopefully, that will be better for the patients and be more efficient economically.Gary Bisbee 0:23That was Dr. James Linder, CEO of Nebraska Medicine, discussing how the COVID crisis will lead to a new delivery model to provide more convenient and efficient care for the patient. I'm Gary Bisbee. And this is Fireside Chat. Dr. Linder has a storied career at the University of Nebraska, including being interim president, a long term faculty appointment as Professor of pathology and microbiology, and his current appointment as CEO of Nebraska Medicine. Dr. Linder is a long-standing entrepreneur with a broad range of interests. Let's listen to Dr. Linder respond to a question about the public health infrastructure and its importance to national security.James Linder 1:05The pandemic has illustrated the fact that robust public health infrastructure is essential for not only the health of individuals but the health of the economy. It's not nice to have, you really need a strong public health infrastructure. And I think every city-state and the federal government has underfunded that for many years because it's not a glamorous activity. Hopefully, people have learned from this pandemic that proper investments and public health are essential.Gary Bisbee 1:37Our conversation includes Dr. Linder discussing a leader's most important characteristic in times of crisis, Nebraska medicine, economics, what he likes most about Nebraska, and the role of the Nebraska medicine biocontainment unit that received early COVID patients from the west coast. I'm delighted to welcome Dr. James Linder to the microphone.Well, good afternoon, Jim, and welcome.James Linder 2:03Thank you very much, Gary, I'm delighted to be with you on this podcast.Gary Bisbee 2:06We're pleased to have you at the microphone for sure. It's always interesting to learn about our guests. You're Midwesterner born in Nebraska and have been at the University of Nebraska in one form or another for quite a while. What do you like best about the Midwest?James Linder 2:21As you say, I was born and raised here. And I guess I could say I like the seasons to some extent, and I certainly like working with the people. I've had just great professional interactions since I joined the faculty here in Nebraska in 1983.Gary Bisbee 2:37For those of us that aren't familiar with Nebraska, how would you describe Nebraskans?James Linder 2:43Well, I would say we're the well-deserved brunt of many jokes. You know, it's like a study, in contrast, it's a very agricultural state with expanses of land with very few people. So we've been practicing social distancing since 1869. Then we also some major metropolitan areas with huge businesses with Fortune 500 companies. So it's a nice contrast that appeals to many people.Gary Bisbee 3:12What would be the distinctive feature of Omaha as a city other than there are these four companies and Nebraska medicine and so on, but how would you describe Omaha to somebody that was not familiar with it?James Linder 3:25I'd probably still describe it as a big town as opposed to a city, which is a little unfair since the metropolitan area has close to seven or 800,000 people, but it's a community I think, where people do still know each other, they interact a lot of farmers markets, cultural events, and everything is accessible. And I lived in the Boston area for a while for work. It was very hard to go to a show because of just the logistics of traveling and parking, whereas in Omaha, you can still enjoy those things.Gary Bisbee 3:57Now our listeners wouldn't forgive me if I didn't ask the obvious question. Do you know Warren Buffet? And do you run into him at all?James Linder 4:05I do know, Mr. Buffett. We have run into each other on a few social events. And he's a very private individual. And I think everyone in Omaha respects that. I've been in restaurants where he's been at a table and no other people walk up to him to start conversations. They're very grateful for what he's done for the community and for all the investors in Berkshire Hathaway, but he enjoys his private life. And a favorite story about Mr. Buffett, I actually when I was a younger person, saw him in a hardware store looking for a part on his own, and walked around some aisle and there's Warren Buffett. I didn't have the foresight then to ask him for investment. My wife Karen actually did write a book on the women executives who served Berkshire Hathaway for many years. And in doing that, we learned quite a bit about the company and its success.Gary Bisbee 4:59That sounds like a must-read and maybe the next podcast interview would be with Karen, but on to you. When did you decide on medicine?James Linder 5:07Well, I was an undergraduate biochemistry major Iowa State and was actually pursuing a PhD program in the 1970s. And unfortunately, that time, getting a PhD in biochemistry was a ticket to the unemployment line. And I decided that I could be a very good researcher with a MD degree, as well as a PhD degree. So that really drove my choice of medicine. And some of you may know that I'm a pathologist by training. And pathology is more of basic science. So that was kind of in line with my research interests.Gary Bisbee 5:40You've held a variety of positions at Nebraska, including interim president in the university and certainly been a professor of pathology microbiology for quite a while and currently CEO in Nebraska medicine. What were the circumstances that resulted in your being appointed interim president?James Linder 5:58I was working in the university prior to that time leading to technology development. And that was because I had worked in industry for about 12 years. And so I had a good sense of tech transfer. And when the president of the university took a position at the City University of New York, he recommends that I'd be one of the candidates for that consideration, simply because we had worked together at the system level. The University of Nebraska has four different campuses. So it has quite an expanse throughout the state.Gary Bisbee 6:31How long were you interim President, then?James Linder 6:33So luckily, I had to get out of jail free card. My agreement specified that I could not be a candidate. The search concluded after one year, and so I had a full year of all the things that you would have as a university president, including an occasional athletic department, controversy or two, but then when the year ended, they had a good candidate who followed me who was dedicated to being a university president. He took that job on.Gary Bisbee 6:58If you could focus on one thing that you learned as President of the University of Nebraska during that year, what would it be?James Linder 7:05I would say that it is a learning that I've tried to carry all my life is that if you have people who are working for you or with you, let them do their jobs, don't try and do their jobs. Because the reason that they are a dean or department chair or Chancellor is to lead their faculty and their employees. And I think that's always been a valuable lesson. I've applied in different roles. I was the Dean of medicine for a while and I left the chairs to do their job. And as CEO, I let my chiefs and divisional leaders do their jobs, that's why they're there to do the best job possible.Gary Bisbee 7:43That's a good transition to the current role you're holding, which is CEO of Nebraska Medicine. What were the circumstances, Jim, to your being appointed to Nebraska medicine? You were sitting on the Nebraska medicine board at the time. But what were the circumstances underlying your appointment?James Linder 8:01I was on the Nebraska medicine board and clearly had no aspiration or even concept that I was qualified to be the CEO of the health system. But the board asked me to assume that leadership role and I talked to my wife and she thought I was being a little underutilized at that time since I had finished the university presidency. And I thought it'd be a good experience.Gary Bisbee 8:26So you agreed to do it. And you've been CEO now for about two years. What have you learned as CEO that you didn't realize when you were sitting on the board of Nebraska medicine?James Linder 8:39I think the greatest thing I came to realize both as a board member and as a physician practice at this hospital for decades, was how incredibly complex it is to deliver patient care at a high level. It's really, as all the other CEOs listening know, you're running basically a hotel, restaurant, Critical Care Service and emergency room. It's a very complex business. And each day when we have our daily shout out here 30 different departments report. And if anyone of them has a problem, say pharmacy, it dramatically impacts the rest of the health system.Gary Bisbee 9:17Most people don't realize that you're also a highly successful entrepreneur. When did that interest develop?James Linder 9:25It probably grew mostly out of my experience in the industry. I began working for a company part-time, and in the mid-90s. That was based on some of the academic work I'd done. And at the same time, I retained my faculty employment. But in doing that, we were forced to innovate new products, we had the opportunity to look at partner companies for either acquisition or other relationships. And it really gave me direct exposure to business and business development. So when I came back to Nebraska. I was actually leading the technology transfer office at the Medical Center for a while. And in doing that was active and trying to build commercial activities out of some of our intellectual property.Gary Bisbee 10:14So what are your current entrepreneurial interests, Jim?James Linder 10:17Well, for 10 years my wife and I have operated an angel investment fund called Linseed capital. And I think we invested in about 30 companies. And all of those have been great experiences because we live vicariously through the founders. Clearly, not all of them have been successful. But we've had great learnings from dealing with those people. And then for about the last five years, my wife and I have been operating, she more than me, a company that does ceramic 3d printing. And we were attracted to that because of potential medical applications. And that's been true, but then there are also great uses for ceramics and other industries.Gary Bisbee 10:59A very Interesting life you live, Dr. Linder. Why don't we move to Nebraska Medicine? Can you describe Nebraska medicine?James Linder 11:07Well, at Nebraska medicine we are the primary teaching hospital for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. We are a free-standing entity that has its own governing board. We don't report directly to the state of Nebraska. We operate to hospitals, approximately 800 licensed beds. And during the course of a typical year, we'll have around 34,000 visits, 95,000 emergency room visits, and 74 clinics that accommodate probably a million clinic visits. So we're small compared to many larger academic medical centers and health systems, but really ethically share some of the same opportunities and problems.Gary Bisbee 11:47What about the culture? How would you describe the culture of Nebraska Medicine?James Linder 11:51I would say it is targeted toward getting things done doing the right thing. Innovation, teamwork, the pursuit of excellence. wants courage and healing which are embodied in our values. People work really well together.Gary Bisbee 12:05Nebraska medicine received one of the early COVID patients, as I recall, share with us why Nebraska medicine would have received those early patients?James Linder 12:15It's a very good question. And it underscores a comment that Steve Jobs made and a commencement address at Stanford, that you can only connect the dots backward. And if you look back to 2004, a decision was made to establish and biocontainment unit at the University Nebraska Medical Center. It sat unused for 10 years, but every month, the staff in that unit practiced donning and doffing and taking care of highly infectious patients. Then in 2014, we had of course, the Ebola crisis that led to people receiving care in the US, and Nebraska medicine took care of the majority of those patients. After that, experience it was recognized that the country in the world needed training and dealing with highly infectious diseases. So over the next five years, we participated in training thousands of military and civilian personnel in the country and actually established the global center for infectious disease on our campus. And it was that center that was activated when the patients from the diamond princess cruise ship, were returned to the US who were COVID positive. And we monitored some of those who are not too ill in isolation and then provided care for the others.Gary Bisbee 13:35Definitely an interesting story. Let's move to COVID a little bit more in a moment. There's been obviously social unrest around the country. Sounds like Omaha has had its share. How would you describe that Jim and how has it affected Nebraska Medicine?James Linder 13:53Omaha has had a share of an appropriate share, I would add of concern over the disparities that exist both economically for people of color and in healthcare access. And our physicians and nurses have stood with those individuals. There was an event just on Friday, where hundreds of healthcare professionals knelt in a moment of silence to recognize the problems that our country is now dealing with. When I communicate to our staff, I emphasize that we cannot solve problems on a national level. But locally, we can do a lot to impact in a positive way the lives of people who would like education and healthcare, would like to add this as a career. And certainly dealing with the healthcare disparities, making sure that everybody has access to screening and care in the state.Gary Bisbee 14:47Well said let's turn if we could to the COVID crisis, how has the surge progressed in Nebraska and particularly for Nebraska Medicine?James Linder 14:57if I had to use a term, I would say a Rising Tide as opposed to a tidal wave. We began preparing for a surge, probably in February, maybe March. And that was based on some of the modelings we had seen, that could affect our estate. And either because of social distancing or other factors, we didn't see that spike in impatience. But we've seen a steady climb and the number of COVID-19 patients we're caring for, typically 10% to 15% of our inpatient census, I pointed out to people that during this entire preparation for the surge, more than 90% of patients that we care for either in our ambulatory clinics or the hospital are the routine issues of heart attacks and cancer and neurologic disease that require our attention. So you're ramping up to do something totally different taking care of patients, while at the same time you have to deliver excellent care for everyone else.Gary Bisbee 15:55Shortage of PPE has been all around the country, particularly those in the midst of the surges, how has PPE been for Nebraska medicine?James Linder 16:07In general, we had adequate supplies. And that is partly because of the position we sat in the country of being prepared to take care of large numbers of patients who might be ill with an infectious disease. We did pioneer early on the UV decontamination of N95 masks, which allowed an individual to use his or her mask over say three times. We also thought a lot about innovation. Our teams put together ways for droplets that might arise from having nasal canula in place, using shields that could protect anesthesiologists and a lot of environmental controls to make sure that health care workers are not affected.Gary Bisbee 16:52There's been a lot of discussion about the role that the federal government ought to play for stockpiling PPE. How do you think about that, Jim?James Linder 17:02Well, it's a question of when you're doing it. If you're doing it prior to a pandemic, it's a wonderful thing. That way, health systems can equitably access those resources. Yes, the federal government is competing against health systems to buy PPE during a time where you're trying to secure for your own patient care needs, and there isn't a system to equitably distributed and that can cause problemsGary Bisbee 17:29How about the state of Nebraska? Is the state of Nebraska have any stockpiling of PPE?James Linder 17:35The state of Nebraska has been a very good partner for Nebraska medicine from the onset of the pandemic. Our staff here at UMC have worked with the six different regions in the state to try and make sure that people were educated on protocols and as much PP was available as possible. So we did have some state resources we drew on some of the resources that existed at Nebraska Medicine to make sure that the hospitals and nursing homes could actually deliver the care in a safe way. pp is just an amazing tool for controlling the pandemic. We have had no health care workers that have become infected when properly using PPE that's since January of this year. Now I'm knocking on wood here because we could always have a mistake tomorrow. But we made use of PPE extenders to make sure that our individuals were in the care setting or properly putting on and taking off their PPE so that did not accidentally contaminate cells.Gary Bisbee 18:39Jim, how about telemedicine? It has exploded in virtually every health system in the country. How about Nebraska Medicine?James Linder 18:47It has likewise seen a dramatic increase. In the last month, we had some days where there were more telemedicine visits than there were in-person visits. And so if there is ever a silver lining from this pandemic It is illustrated that patients like telemedicine. Physicians can practice high-quality telehealth remotely. And it is a real plus for healthcare Also consider the fact in a rural state like Nebraska, it can enable care to populations that otherwise may not get it. So I think that organized medicine should work hard with the federal government and insurance carriers to make sure that the reimbursement for telehealth services is appropriate.Gary Bisbee 19:29If the reimbursement is appropriate, do you think that this increased usage will continue or even grow?James Linder 19:35I think it will continue. I think it will require our health systems to rethink how they engage patients. So we may have diagnostic centers where blood draws could happen. And imaging studies could be done here, before or after the telehealth visit. So all that information is there. And then I think you'll see some services that have not been adequately served in the country such as in-cancer screening, that will grow tremendously because the paucity of dermatologists and many communities has led to a deficit in screening for skin cancer. And I think that can be resolved by telehealth. So the CMS and the states issued waivers pretty early on. Was that particularly helpful? I think that the waivers that were issued were helpful, and I think that we should look carefully at how that has impacted care. And when it's improved care, we should look for those waivers to be made permanent so that it is part of the ongoing provision of care. how do you think about social distancing with let's say your amatory care,Gary Bisbee 20:40How do you think about social distancing with let's say your ambulatory care, waiting areas will there need to be new planning to accommodate social distancing?James Linder 20:51The point you bring up is very important. A lot of the ambulatory care areas if you think of how they were historically patients would come in, they would be given a clipboard and they'd fill out several pages of answering questions. And that does not lend itself to good social distancing. So with the digital front door, if you will, that we've developed with our Nebraska medicine app, which is similar to what many other health systems use, those questions can be answered before the patient comes in. So literally, they show up for their 10 o'clock appointment can be seen immediately in the exam room where they're scheduled to be seen. We've taken the position that all of our providers in the ambulatory setting do wear masks. We provide masks to patients when they come in if they don't have their own. We think that the physical barrier the mask is essential for limiting the spread of the virus.Gary Bisbee 21:45How about rebooting surgeries Have you begun to institute surgeries now?James Linder 21:52We began doing "elective surgeries" when it was permitted by the state surgeries that were required for life and limb, even during the onset of the pandemic we did. The things that could be postponed for four to six weeks were postponed. And we began doing those largely limited by the availability of staff as opposed to our time. Then we found, as I'm sure many other CEOs have taken care of patients who have COVID-19 infections as a significant burden on your critical care, faculty, and staff, whether they're anesthesiologists or pulmonologists and that has limited our ability to staff some of those procedural areas. But we're gradually getting back up to the neighborhood of 80%.Gary Bisbee 22:42COVID has accelerated the timeline for discovery in many cases, vaccines, drugs, devices, as you've pointed out innovations that Nebraska medicine will that accelerate to provider delivery cycles in a commencer Why do you think Jim?James Linder 22:59I think every health system is looking at their labor stack if you will. Who does what work? How is work getting done, how's the care provided? So I do believe we will get to a different care delivery model than we had in December of 2019. And hopefully, that will be better for the patients and be more efficient economically.Gary Bisbee 23:20Let's go to the economics of this, which is not a pretty picture for any of our health systems. How will this COVID outbreak affect and Nebraska medicines finances in 2020?James Linder 23:33Well, for fiscal year 20, we will incur probably a modest financial loss. We were in a fairly strong position, coming into say April this year, but April, May, and June will all be actual negative, if you will. We made the decision early on to not furlough any of our employees. And we had the luxury of doing that because we had sufficient days of cash on hand that we felt we could absorb that law. We also thought that those colleagues would be essential for the recovery of our activities in June, July, and August. But still, it's going to be a difficult year. And it will require some innovation and work on part of everyone to make sure that we can deliver care in an efficient way and make sure patients feel comfortable coming back to the clinics in the hospital.Gary Bisbee 24:23There's a lot of fear out there. Probably 40% of individuals are reluctant to come into a healthcare setting. How are you dealing with that? Are you trying to communicate with the community about that, Jim?James Linder 24:35I believe that the most effective way is direct conversations with the individuals who normally would schedule those patients, making sure that they are aware of the safety precautions in place for their well being. And I make the point that Nebraska medicine was one of the most advanced facilities in the country or the world in dealing with the patient who had an infection. Likewise, the safety protocols we put in place, I think are strong, supportive, and safe for the patient. Fear is fear though. And it does take repeating that message many times over.Gary Bisbee 25:11Yeah, I'm sure. Well, let's hope we don't have another wave in the fall as some are predicting. How are you expecting the payer mix to change?James Linder 25:19Well, I think the payer mix will change in a couple of different ways. In Nebraska, we're finally getting to a point of Medicaid expansion. So we will be reimbursed for Medicaid from sources we did not have access to before. And then I think on the national scene, there will probably be the ongoing juggling of different payers. They probably had a very strong third and fourth quarter because of the fact that many elective procedures were postponed, but there'll be rethinking about how they want to support healthcare and there could be federal legislation as well that affects the payment of services.Gary Bisbee 26:00Turning to leadership. I think we all agree leadership is always important, particularly in times of crisis. What characteristics do you think a top leader ought to have during a crisis?Jim Linder 26:12Calm. That answer may be too brief, but I think it's essential. I think you have to analyze the situation you're in, get input from people who are at the front line and be calm as you'd help guide people through the decision making.Gary Bisbee 26:25Yep. As I've asked other CEOs, that's a frequent answer. So you all have that experience. Let's go to the health infrastructure, it seems clear that public health is more part of the national security than we might have thought in the past. How do you think about that, Jim?James Linder 26:45I think that the pandemic has illustrated the fact that a robust public health infrastructure is essential for not only the health of individuals but the health of the economy. It's not nice to have. You really need a strong public health infrastructure. And I think every city, state and federal government has underfunded that for many years because it's not a glamorous activity. Hopefully, people have learned from this pandemic that proper investments and public health are essential.Gary Bisbee 27:17I totally agree with that. And it seems like it's up to us to continue to push that ball forward, or it runs a risk of being forgotten. Again, Jim, this has been a terrific interview. I'd like to ask one last question if I could. We've been talking about the new normal, off and on now for a couple of months. What do you think would characterize a new normal?James Linder 27:40I think we have to acknowledge the fact that the diseases that plague people before the pandemic continue to exist. And we have to figure out a way to deliver care to those individuals in a way that's safe, while at the same time meeting our challenging requirement of providing care for Cova 19 patients for at least the next year. We think that probably 10% of our hospital occupancy will be of that realm. Then, relative to your public health question, I think the more that we are engaged in communities, making sure people are healthy, making sure that there are not health disparities and access and care. I will have a healthier community overall, and just make the country a better place.Gary Bisbee 28:25Jim, excellent interview. As we grow more successful, it can be easy for power to go to our heads. We can start to think we're unstoppable. This is especially true on the grand scale when we see ethical issues in business headline the news. One right now, for example, is the rehabilitation of the Boeing 737 Max line of aircraft. It has turned into an epic crisis in the last couple of years for them as they simply have not done well in addressing the issue. Nor did they really do a great job of mitigating it either. Whoever made the decision to cut corners and create the software which caused a couple flights to crash, obviously shouldn't have cut those corners.Another example was back in 2008 when Lehman Brothers had to file for bankruptcy. Out of all the things that went on that year, I still remember watching the news as the threat of that particular crisis grew more inevitable. When it finally did, the market plummeted... as well as the savings and lifestyles of many people who thought they had done things right.Today's guest, Michael Ainslie, was one of the group of people that had to make the decision to file for Chapter 11. Sure, making the decision was tough, but it was the right thing to do.Being part of that board hasn't been his only rodeo, however. He was also the CEO of the internationally known auction house Sotheby's. Let's just say they had a few things they had to deal with during his time there as well.In his new book, A Nose for Trouble, he shares with us how he's been able keep his head through all the adversity in his career. In this chat, Andy and I get the chance to learn a few things you won't hear on any other interview of his!Enjoy! If you've been following the show for awhile, you're probably aware that I'm a big fan of Fizzle. Personally, I think they're one of the best resources I've seen out there for the lifestyle entrepreneur. Why?Well, there's a couple of reasons for that. For one, their library of courses available to their members are geared for those who need an Entrepreneurship 101 or 201 course. They cover all the fundamentals. But that's not all that's there. In fact, the creators joke with the idea that people come for the courses, but stay for the community.Which is so true. In fact, I'm still interacting with several people I met on there 4 years ago. Including Veronica. In today's interview with co-founder of Fizzle, Corbett Barr, Veronica and I talk to Corbett about the founding of Fizzle and what he thinks about the online entrepreneurial space 10 years after he started his first blog Think Traffic. It's my hope that you get a bit of an understanding of why Veronica and I both believe Fizzle is such a great resource.Enjoy! Transcript: If you commit a crime and are convicted in a court of law, you will get punished, you might end up in jail. If you are caught on the same offence the second time, your punishment will be worse. Many Christians believe the lie that Jesus paid it all. He paid for your sins and if you believe in Jesus, that He forgives your sins, past present and future and that you can keep on sinning and will still get into heaven. We read in Hebrews 10:26 " 26For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. 28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30For we know Him who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” 31It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Dear friend, if you keep on sinning, Jesus Himself will cast you into hell. If a worldly court will not excuse you for repeat offenses, what makes these people think that Jesus will pardon them? Another crazy lie that many Christians believe is that of once saved, always saved. They will quote you Bible scripture to prove it. John 10:28 Jesus said:"and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29“My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand." However, these people do not read John 10:27 "“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;" These people do not hear His voice, they do not follow Him, they are not His sheep! Just believing in Jesus, does not save you. You have to follow and obey Him, then nothing will snatch you out of His hand, but if you stray from Him, go your own way and run after the wolves, you will be destroyed. You will end up in hell. Jesus guides those who willfully follow Him, but He will not hold us back if we refuse to listen to Him, follow and obey Him. He said that those who endure with Him until the end, will be saved. He also said:"For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”Mark 8:38. Many Christians choose to believe lies. The Truth is written in the scriptures but many twist the scriptures to their own downfall and that is why they will end up in hell. The way to eternal life is to follow and obey Jesus as He spoke and His words, the TRUTH, was recorded in the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Obey Jesus, repent, stop sinning, be holy, be baptized in water as Jesus commanded. accept Jesus and He will make you NEW inside, BORN AGAIN to be a child of God. Obey the words fo Jesus, seek Him with all your heart, always, and He will teach and guide you into all truth, He will keep and protect you, but if you stray and go away from Him, you will perish. Stay with Jesus, until the end, and you will have LIFE May Jesus bless you.
This is the fifth class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas. The following is the outline of the class. Son versus the prophets Hbr 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son Hebrews 1:2-3 He appointed heir of all things 2. He made the worlds 3. He is brightness of God’s glory 4. The express image of God 5. Upholding all things by the word of his power 6. Purged our sins 7. Sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high Jesus is greater than the Angels Chapter 1:4-2:18 Angels God has used angels to carry messages from Himself to man. communicate with us outside our five senses • God has used angels to arrange blessings for humans. • God has used angels to deliver us from harm. • God has used angels to answer prayer • God will use angels to escort me to Heaven when I die. Comparing Jesus with the angels Jesus: • Only begotten Son • Direct lineage to God • Worship Him • Sits on the throne • God the father calls Him God Angels: • They're not • They never • Never worshipped • They serve • Ministering spirits Hebrews 2 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Drift also Leak Out Acts 13:52…. filled with joy • Ephesians 5:18… filled with the Holy Spirit • 2 Corinthians 7:4…filled with comfort • Matthew 5:6… Hunger and thirst • Romans 15… filled with knowledge Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. Hebrews 10 (NIV) 28Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Outline for chapter 2:5-18 Another problem associated with angels In the first chapter the writer emphasizes the Son’s deity now, he emphasizes Jesus humanity to complete the picture of why the Son is greater than the angels. • Not only God but man and He can bridge a gap that the angelic host could not. 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: • “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet.” • In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present, we do not see everything subject to them. •[9But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.10In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, Not only did Jesus become flesh • Not only did Jesus live in the flesh • Not only die in the flesh • But He was raised in the flesh • He assended in the flesh-He is still a man, He kept His humanity Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: • “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet. SIDE STUDY ON THE DESTINY OF CHRISTIANS James 2: 26 for as the body without the spirit is dead, Philippians 1:21-24 21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me, and I do not know which to choose. 23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. To depart and be with Christ for that is very much better. YOUR RESURRECTED GLORIFIED HUMAN BODY - God’s extreme makeover. Resurrection of mortal body Romans 8:10-11 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Resurrection Mar 12:24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 1Cor 15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? The scope of our redemption demands it. The Biblical view of man. (Gen. 1:12, 18 &25) 2. Death - the enemy of God. (I Cor. 15:26) 3. Salvation means, literally, to be made whole. Heb.10:39 Salvation of soul. 1Cor. 5:5 Salvation of Spirit. Rom 8:23 The redemption of our bodies. Our destiny demands it. God became a man with a body. (John1:1, 14) 2. Jesus’ destiny is our destiny. (Rom. 8:17) 1Cr 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the firstfruits of them that slept.3. He promised we would never die. (John 11:25-26) Our new environment demands it. 1. “New heavens and new earth” (II Pet. 3:13 - Heb. 1:12) 2. Powerful unimaginable changes. The ultimate makeover (I Cor. 15:37) 1Cr 15:35-38 But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come? “You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own Incredible Change Our new environment demands it. Powerful unimaginable changes. Actual changes no digestive system - (I Cor. 6:13) no sexual relationship - (Mt. 22:30) no aging - (I Cor. 15) glorious - (I Cor. 15) powerful - no handicaps - (I Cor. 15) perfectly fitted for our new home - (I Cor. 15) I John 3: 1-3 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure 2 CORINTHIANS 5:1-4 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile, we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-17 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, Romans 8:17-18 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. IT WILL HAPPEN AT THE 2ND COMING OF CHRIST There will be 3 great signs. (I Thess. 4:14-18) 1. The last great trumpet. 2. The shout of Michael. 3. The appearance of Jesus with all the spirits of the saved who have died. Then the resurrection of dead Christian bodies & then the changing of all our bodies. All in the blink of an eye Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: • “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet. The Jews spoke of 3 worlds The world that was = the world before Mt Sinai 2. The world that is = as the Jewish nation 3. The world to come = when the Messiah comes Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet. In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present, we do not see everything subject to them 9But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10For it was fitting for Him, for who are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Speaker or Performer: John Mathis Scripture Passage(s): Ezekiel 11:14-25 Date of Delivery: December 29, 2013 I. IntroductionChristmas has come and gone again, and the Lord continues to begracious to each one of us. In the hustle and bustle of buying gifts andvisiting family and friends, I pray you all had time to quietly reflect on theunspeakable gift given to us by God in His one and only Son. Today’smessage is not a “Christmas sermon” per se; I will not be examining anyof the texts related to our Lord’s birth nor his early earthly life. What I dowant to do this morning, Lord willing, is expound from this text thecovenant mercy and faithfulness of God toward us- His blood-boughtpeople. I want to show you also from this text God’s righteousness indealing justly with rebels who scorn His covenant and mock His grace. So I hope to show you today both the preserving love of God and Hisjustice. May God help me in this enterprise.II. Background- First, I want to take a few moments to give you somebackground and context for this text.A. When Where? The events our text take place in a vision of Jerusalem, not manyyears after the first deportation of Israelites to Babylon- around theyear 592 B.C.. As God had promised through His prophets, theChaldeans, led by King Nebuchadnezzar, laid siege to Israel’s cities, taking thousands captive and killing many more. This vast judgmentcame upon Israel because of its rank idolatry and because of itsrefusal to abide by the Law of God. It is in this period that God sendssome of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament: Jeremiah,Daniel, Habakkuk, Zephaniah , and the writer of this morning’s text, the prophet Ezekiel.B. Who was Ezekiel?Ezekiel, son of Buzi, was born about 622 B.C., into the priestlyline of Aaron’s son Ithamar. He grew up during the reign of thereformer King Josiah, one of the rare godly kings in the long line ofwicked rulers of Judah. In fact, just about a year before Ezekiel’sbirth, Hilkiah the priest had found the lost book of God’s Law- theLaw that caused Josiah to tear his clothes in righteous fear andthat caused him to publicly renew Israel’s covenant with God. This brought about a brief era of national repentance, especially inJerusalem, but it was not to last. When Ezekiel was about fourteen,King Josiah was killed in battle, and the king of Egypt installed Jehoiakim as king over Judah and Jerusalem, and in his elevenyear reign he “did evil in the site of LORD” and returned the peopleto their former abominations. When Ezekiel is twenty-four and a priest in Jerusalem, KingJehoiakim dies, and his evil son Jehoiachin becomes king inJudah. This is a time of great wickedness in Judah generally, andin Jerusalem in particular. The Word of God tells us that even thepriests and higher officials defiled the Temple with idols and otherdetestable things. The next year, King Nebuchadnezzar returnedand took 10,000 more captives, including Ezekiel and his wife, back to Babylon. It is in Babylon that God gives Ezekiel visions of Jerusalem’s utter destruction and restoration, and that brings usback to our text. I want to concentrate now on three major truthsfrom this passage.II. First, even in the midst of exile, God is the “Sanctuary” of His covenantpeople (vv.14-16):A. Look back at the beginning of chapter 11, to the beginning of thisvision given to Ezekiel:1 Moreover, theSpirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gateof theLord’shouse which faced eastward. And behold,thereweretwenty-five men at the entrance of the gate, and among themI saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur andPelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.2He said to me, “Son of man, these are themen who devise iniquity andgive evil advice in this city,3who say,‘The timeis not near to build houses.Thiscityis the pot and weare the flesh.’4Therefore,prophesy against them, son of man, prophesy!”On the eve of destruction, these foolish rulers had convincedthemselves and the people that they were safe in the midst of God’sjudgment of Jerusalem. In their arrogance, they pictured themselves aspieces of flesh floating safely inside the brass walls of a caldron, and inthis protective pot they would continue their idol worship, their law-breaking, and their mockery of God’s prophetic Word. The parallel to our own time is not hard to find. Even within what callsitself the “church,” we see all too regularly those who have convincedthemselves they are safe with their idolatrous beliefs, their calling whatis evil good and what is good evil, and their scorn for God’s Word. Just as the inhabitants of Jerusalem were encouraged in their wickednessby false prophets and blind guides, so too are millions of people whocall themselves Christians. And just as those doomed citizens ofJerusalem, they have made for themselves gods to their own liking-gods who wink at their peccadillos and close their eyes to theirsinfulness. But God is not mocked. Look at verse five:5Then the Spirit of theLordfell upon me, and He said to me, “Say,‘Thus says theLord, “So you think, house of Israel, forIknowyour thoughts.6You havemultiplied your slain in this city, filling its streets withthem.”7Therefore, thus says the LordGod,“Yourslain whom you have laid in the midst ofthe city are the fleshand thiscityis the pot; butI willbring you out of it.8You havefeared a sword; so I willbring a sword upon you,” theLordGoddeclares.9“And I will bring you out of the midst of thecity and deliver you into the hands ofstrangers andexecutejudgments against you.10You willfall by the sword. I will judge youto theborder of Israel; so you shall know that I amtheLord.11Thiscitywillnot be a pot for you, nor will you be flesh inthe midst of it,butI will judge you to the border of Israel.12Thusyou will know that I am theLord; for you have not walked in Mystatutes nor have youexecuted My ordinances, but have actedaccording to the ordinances of the nations around you.”’”At this point you may be asking yourself, “I thought he was going toshow us how God is a sanctuary to his people in exile?” I’m getting to it- bear with me. Look at verse 13:13Now it came about as I prophesied, thatPelatiah son of Benaiahdied. Then I fell on my face and cried out with a loud voice andsaid, “Alas, LordGod! Will You bring the remnant of Israel to acomplete end?”So while Ezekiel is prophesying about the soon judgment of Jerusalem, one of its leaders, Pelatiah, dies. This is the same Pelatiah that Godindicted earlier in the chapter as a deviser of iniquity and an evil adviser. Ezekiel is obviously distressed by his death, falling to the ground andcrying out to God. But why? Why would the death of this wicked leadercause Ezekiel to ask God if He was going to destroy even the remnantof Israel? We get a hint in the next verse; look at verse 14:14Then the word of theLordcame to me, saying,15“Son of man, your brothers, yourrelatives, your fellow exiles and the wholehouse of Israel, all of them, are thoseto whom the inhabitants ofJerusalem have said, ‘Go far from theLord; this land has beengivenus as a possession.’So those in Jerusalem not only had convinced themselves that theywere safe within their pot- within the walls of the city, but also theydeceived themselves into believing that the reason so many were takeninto exile was to show that God had given the land to those whoremained! At some point, Ezekiel- the same Ezekiel who had seen thevisions of God’s glory and who was sent to comfort his fellow exiles and warn those in Jerusalem- even he was deceived by this lie. If evenPetaliah, a leader of Jerusalem, died under God’s judgment, what hopewas there for the remnant? If God had not spared one who ruled in thecity where God’s temple stood, would He spare the Israelites exiled in Babylon? Is this not the way we often think? We see churches, particularly in thiscountry in doctrinal freefall. Heresies long ago condemned are taughtopenly from pulpits with the greatest of pride. We see churches allaround us capitulating to the world’s redefinition of marriage, and on,and on, and on. Are we not tempted to doubt that God is still about the business of preserving His exiles and bringing glory to His name? So how does God reply to this doubt? (read v.16)Thus says the LordGod, “Though I had removed them far away among the nations and though I had scattered them among thecountries, yet I was asanctuary for them a little while in thecountries where they had gone.”The answer to Ezekiel’s impassioned question is “No”! God will notmake a “complete end” of His remnant. On the contrary; God removedthem from Jerusalem to SAVE them from the impending calamities. Thewicked people of Jerusalem had it backwards; they were left in the cityto be destroyed- not to inherit the land. Once the land was cleansed oftheir abominations, the REMNANT would be brought back to possess the land and the city. And even more than this, God says that He was the remnant’sSANCTUARY during its captivity. When we read the word“sanctuary” we often think of safe place- a place where we can escapeharm- a REFUGE. This what God was to His people in their exile. Jerusalem had the Temple, with all its grandeur, but it was doomed tosoon destruction. The exiles had something infinitely better- the actualpresence of God among them. His glory would soon leave the Temple, but He did not leave His remnant; He was their SANCTUARY.Brothers and sisters, we are but a small flock. We are having services ina store front, and we are thinking of moving to a house. As we see themega-churches and the grand cathedrals, we may be tempted towonder why it is not so for us. We may even wonder if this church will survive, or if we will slowly dwindle and eventually disband. Let this textremind us not to judge by outward appearance. As long as God is ourrefuge, our SANCTUARY, it does not matter where we meet. Godknows how to preserve His remnant in exile, and He does it by beingtheir sanctuary.III. The second truth I want you to see in this text is that God will gather His exiled covenant people. Verse 17:Therefore say, ‘Thus says the LordGod, “I willgather you from thepeoples and assemble you out of the countries among which youhave been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”First, notice Who is at work here. God says He will gather and assembleHis remnant out of the peoples. God had scattered them among thenations, and He would unscatter them. The same God that haddelivered His people out of Egypt with a mighty hand would deliver Hisexiles out of captivity in Babylon. Also notice that this promise was unconditional. God does not here sayif the exiles do such and such, I will gather them. No; it is by His grace that He will gather them. God is under no compulsion to gather them;they had done nothing to deserve God’s favor. So why then does Hegather them? Though we are not told explicitly here, God makes itabundantly clear later in this book. Listen as I read from chapter 36,starting in verse 22:22“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the LordGod, “It isnot for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but forMy holy name, which you have profaned among the nations whereyou went.23I willvindicate the holiness of My great name which hasbeen profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in theirmidst. Then thenations will know that I am theLord,” declares theLordGod, “when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight.24ForI willtake you from the nations, gather you from all the lands andbring you into your own land.God does not gather His people because of their deeds; He gathersthem IN SPITE of their deeds. They- and yes, WE- have profaned Hisholy name among the nations, but yet in His grace He gathers us. Hedoes this to bring glory to Himself. One glorious day, God will gather ALL the His people scattered abroad. With the voice of the arch angel and the trump of God, the mighty Lordwill call forth all those He has redeemed by the sacrifice of His Son. Hewill start with dead in Christ, and then He will gather those who are aliveand remain. No good work of ours will compel Him to do this; He will do itof His own free grace, and He will do it to bring glory to His holy name.As if this not enough, God pours grace upon grace. Not only does Hegather the exiles from their captivity, but He also GIVES them the land ofIsrael. Again, they had done nothing to deserve this. They werecovenant breakers just like those haughty souls left in Jerusalem. Theyhad done the very things that God had warned them would cause themto lose possession of Israel. Yet God, in His loving kindness for Hisexiles, gives them back what they deserved to lose. This leads us to thefinal truth I want you to see in this text: God will restore His exiledcovenant people.IV. God will restore His exiled covenant peopleLook back at verses 18 through 20:18When they come there, they willremove all itsdetestable thingsand all its abominations from it.19And I willgive them one heart, andput a new spirit withinthem. And I will take theheart of stone out oftheir flesh and give them aheart of flesh,20that they maywalk in Mystatutes and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will beMypeople, and I shall be their God.What kind of restoration will this be? It will not be a return to the sinsthat led to the exile in the first place. When His remnant returns to theland, they will put away the idols and the graven images. No more willthey offer their children as sacrifices to false gods. No more will theyworship them in the high places. God will use His returned exiles tocleanse the land of these abominations. They will have “no other godsbefore Him.” Again their confession will be, “Hear, O Israel! Yahweh isour God! Yahweh is One!”God foretells how He will accomplish this feat- how He will transformthese covenant-breaking, idolatrous Israelites into faithful servants whowill keep His Law and cleanse the land. The language is all too familiarto us- at least it should be. He will give them a heart transplant. God willremove the dead, stony heart that is at enmity with Him and His Law,and He will replace it with a living heart- one that loves God and HisLaw. He will change their very nature. He will not force them to obeyHis Law against their will, but He will change their disposition so thatthey willingly obey. They will be “willing in the day of His power.”God gives them the ability, through this heart transplant, to do His will. By giving them new, living hearts, God frees them from their slavery tosin. Notice again that it is God ALONE at work here. None of the exileswill change the disposition of his own heart. This must be accomplishedby God Himself. He will change their nature, and THEN they will walk inHis statutes and keep His ordinances. He will not save them because ofgood works, but He will save them TO DO good works.8 Forby grace you have been savedthrough faith; andthat not ofyourselves,it isthe gift of God;9not as a result of works, so thatnoone may boast.10For we are His workmanship, created inChristJesus forgood works, which Godprepared beforehand so that wewouldwalk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NASB)At the end of this promise, God declares “THEN they will be my people, and I will be their God.” But wait a minute; weren’t they already Hispeople? I mean, these were Israelites- the physical fruit of God’scovenant with Abraham. How were they not His people? For they are not all Israel who aredescended from Israel;nor arethey all childrenbecause they are Abraham’s descendants…. (Romans 9:6-7 NASB)Outwardly, these exiles were Jews- they were the beneficiaries of God’scovenant promises. But inwardly, they were still rebels, kicking againstthe goads and at war with the God who preserved them. But this willchange when God circumcises their hearts. THEN, and only then, willthey truly be His people, both outwardly and in the inner parts. THENthey will be truly restored. As wondrous as this restoration is, God has something even moreglorious prepared for us in the New Covenant. Just as the exiles, we toohave been given a new heart to serve God. God has raised us to newlife in Christ, but we still have the old nature. Though we are “bornagain” by God’s Spirit, our flesh still wars against the new spirit. But Godwill grant us restoration. When Christ returns in glory, we will betransformed into His image. The fallen image we inherited from Adamwill be done away with forever. The work God began in our hearts, Hewill finish when He totally conforms us to the likeness of His dear Son.THAT is complete restoration, and it is ours by grace, through faith inChrist Jesus.V. ConclusionAs I close, I want to leave you with a warning and a challenge. First thewarning. Look at verse 21:21But as for those whose hearts go after theirdetestable things andabominations, I willbring their conduct down on their heads,” declaresthe LordGod.The promise of restoration is not for those who continue in their sin. For them, the only promise God gives is judgment.26For if we go onsinning willfully after receivingthe knowledge ofthe truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,27but aterrifying expectation ofjudgment andthe fury of a fire which willconsume the adversaries.28Anyone who has set aside the Law ofMoses dies without mercy onthe testimony of two or threewitnesses.29How much severer punishment do you think he willdeservewho has trampled under foot the Son of God, and hasregarded as uncleanthe blood of the covenantby which he wassanctified, and hasinsulted the Spirit of grace?30For we know Himwho said, “Vengeance is Mine, Iwill repay.” And again, “The Lordwill judge His people.”31It is aterrifying thing to fall into the handsof theliving God. (Hebrews 10:26-31 NASB)Finally, I would challenge you, if God has spoken to you through thistext, do what Ezekiel did! Proclaim it to your fellow exiles! (vv.24-25)24And theSpirit lifted me up and brought me in a vision by theSpirit of God to the exilesin Chaldea. So the vision that I hadseenleft me.25Then Itold the exiles all the things thattheLordhad shown me.
