We try and pack a lot into every episode but this week we've outdone ourselves. First up, Neil Rosen tells us about "The Offer" which is Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy's never-before-revealed experiences of making The Godfather. He's pretty excited about it. Bill Bregoli, who still goes to movie theaters, fills us in on "The Northman" which is an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father's murder. Bill McCuddy tells us about the new series "We This City" which tells the story of the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it. But we haven't even started. We've also got "The Survivor" which tells the story of Harry Haft, a boxer who fought against his peers in concentration camps. Based on a true story! Then there's the Netflix series "Anatomy of a Scandal" staring Sienna Miller. But wait, there's more. Neil saw the new Broadway production of "Mr. Saturday Night" starring Billy Crystal and he's hyperventilating about it. Bill Bregoli has a teen romance called "Metal Lords" and Bill McCuddy fills us in on the second season of "The Flight Attendant" as well as the new series "Tokyo Vice." There's even more but we're running out of time. Just go listen already!

Welcome back to the Rock 'n Roll Ghost Podcast. On this week's episode, the Ghost speaks with actor Michael Rispoli (The Sopranos) about his new role in Paramount Plus' series, The Offer, about the making of the historic gangster film The Godfather. In the film, Rispoli plays real life crime boss Tommy Lucchese, who was central to the film's producer Albert S. Ruddy's needs to film in New York City. Rispoli discusses his role in the series, but digs deeper when discussion hits on his time on The Sopranos, including his nearly being cast in the role of Tony Soprano and his friendship with James Gandolfini (who, of course, was Tony) that predated the series. Episode Summary: You cannot assess the history of cinema without assessing the history of mob films. Filmmakers discovering that crime offered a new narrative form changed the direction of movies to come. Today, the guys discuss two of the most celebrated mob movies in history. The Godfather is in the constant rotation of films that are considered “Best Of All Time”. Goodfellas builds on the modern formula that The Godfather builds by giving the “Behind The Music” of running an organized crime organization. Also, these films don't lack star power. When we analyze the cast of each film, it reads like the yet-to-be-realized youth of The Godfather versus the tenured De Niro/Pesci cast that Scorsese had perfected chemistry with. Al Martino - Look Around (You'll Find Me There) (1972) From the film "Love Story". Al Martino - Torero (1979) Ah, that Disco monster kept devouring old showbiz. Al Martino - She's Almost Gone (1980) From Wikipedia: Apart from singing, Martino played the role of Johnny Fontane in the 1972 film The Godfather, as well as singing the film's theme, "Speak Softly Love". Martino had been notified of the character Johnny Fontane by a friend who read the eponymous novel and felt Martino represented the character of Johnny Fontane. Martino then contacted producer Albert S. Ruddy, who gave him the part. However, Martino was stripped of the part after Francis Ford Coppola became director and then awarded the role to singer Vic Damone. According to Martino, after being stripped of the role, he went to Russell Bufalino, his godfather and a crime boss, who then orchestrated the publication of various news articles that claimed Coppola was unaware of Ruddy giving Martino the part. Damone eventually dropped the role because he did not want to provoke the mob, in addition to being paid too little. Ultimately, the part of Johnny Fontane was given to Martino. He played the same role in The Godfather Part III and The Godfather Trilogy: 1901–1980. He later returned to acting, playing aging crooner Sal Stevens in the short film Cutout, appearing in film festivals around the world in 2006. Engelbert Humperdinck - The Last of the Romantics (1978) I remember seeing him sing this on Mike Douglas. Engelbert Humperdinck - Les Bicyclettes De Belsize (1968) Engelbert Humperdinck - Love's In Need Of Love Today (1976) Dean Martin - By The Time I Get To Phoenix (1969) Dean Martin - Detroit City (1971) One of the few songs covered by both Martin AND LEWIS. Never released in Ruffin's lifetime. David Ruffin - Bring Her Back (1971) David Ruffin - The Finger Pointers (1975) Or "The Backstabbers" Part 2. Eddie Kendricks - He's A Friend (1976) Eddie Kendricks - Keep On Truckin' (Album version) (1973) From Wikipedia: Upon its release in the summer of 1973, the song would finally bring Kendricks out of the shadow of his former band as the song's catchy beats and melody became a crossover hit. By late fall, the song had reached number one on the US pop and R&B singles chart, matching the performance of the biggest singles released by his former group. When "...Truckin'" became a hit, the Temptations' hit luster was waning, with "Hey Girl (I Like Your Style)" barely reaching the Top 40, and the follow-up funk song, "Let Your Hair Down", becoming only a modest hit (although an R&B #1). Much like their "Superstar", which would notably be covered by David Ruffin, Kendricks included a jab at his former bandmates with the lyric: In old Temptations' rain, I'm duckin' For your love through sleet or snow, I'm truckin' Eddie Kendricks - Shoeshine Boy (1974) The Spinners - Love Don't Love Nobody (1974) Genesis - Duchess (1980)

This week, Zach makes and offer you can't refuse - discuss Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather, or else. The Godfather is a 1972 American crime film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by Albert S. Ruddy from a screenplay by Mario Puzo and Coppola. Based on Puzo's 1969 novel of the same name, the film stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a fictional New York crime family. The story, spanning the years 1945 to 1955, centers on the transformation of Michael Corleone from reluctant family outsider to ruthless Mafia boss while also chronicling the family under the patriarch Vito Corleone. The Godfather is widely regarded as one of the greatest films in world cinema—and as one of the most influential, especially in the gangster genre. Now ranked as the second greatest film in American cinema (behind Citizen Kane) by the American Film Institute, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1990. http://youtu.be/sY1S34973zA Show your thanks to Major Spoilers for this episode by becoming a Major Spoilers VIP.
