Cette semaine au cinéma, 2 salles, 2 ambiances : en tête d'affiche, Hors Saison, le nouveau film de Stéphane Brizé qui fait un ménage de printemps : terminé le cycle sur le monde du travail avec Vincent Lindon en chevalier pourfendant les injustices sociales. C'est toujours la crise, mais cette fois-ci de manière plus introspective autour d'un vrai-faux autoportrait de Guillaume Canet dans le rôle d'un acteur parti en thalasso bretonne pour faire le point sur sa vie. C'est celle d'avant, via les retrouvailles avec son grand amour abandonné qui va remonter à la surface. On pourrait presque rebaptiser ça Un homme et une flamme. En tous les cas, ça rappelle énormément le Claude Lelouch des grandes heures, y compris dans ses chabadabadas et digressions inattendues. On peut trouver cet esprit de comédie romantique sentimentale suranné, mais le couple Canet/Alba Rohrwacher, tout en atermoiements, fait plus que le job. Brizé a fait appel à Vincent Delerm pour la musique de son film. C'est un choix cohérent : Hors Saison y ressemble dans son humeur lymphatique, mais à la mélancolie attachante. Pendant que Guillaume Canet est donc en thalasso à Quiberon, en Estonie, la communauté Voro entretien la tradition du sauna pour les femmes. Celles de Smoke Sauna Sisterhood en font un espace protégé, lieu où elles peuvent tout se dire, tout exprimer. La parole est encore plus à nu que les corps dans ce surprenant documentaire qui dissipe tout écran de fumée. Ici, des femmes de tous âges, de tous physiques se livrent comme dans un confessionnal bienveillant, où elles peuvent autant se marrer joyeusement en parlant de dick pics que se délivrer du traumatisme d'un viol ou du diagnostic d'un cancer. Anna Hints enveloppe ce choeur féminin souvent brut de décoffrage dans une douceur sensorielle et une abstraction sensuelle, achevant de faire de Smoke Sauna sisterhood une bulle de chaleur humaine qui agit comme un gommage, nettoyant ces femmes de la culpabilité du silence. Ce sauna a été reconnu par l'UNESCO comme un inaliénable lieu d'héritage culturel. Un label que mériterait ce documentaire décrassant autant les yeux que les esprits. Today Anna Smith talks to Oscar-nominated director Maite Alberdi about her new documentary The Eternal Memory, which follows a Chilean couple as they navigate the challenges of Alzheimer's disease together. She then talks to Ella Glendining about her BIFA-nominated documentary, Is There Anybody Out There? which charts her search for individuals with the same rare disability as herself. Journalist Augusto Góngora and actor Paulina Urrutia are the subject of The Eternal Memory, a touching testimony of the couple's bond in the face of Augusto's worsening dementia. ‘La Pauli,' as Augosto referred to his partner, took care of him after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at 62. Maite recalls how the couple had a unique approach to the disease where they saw ‘Alzeimher's as a challenge, not a tragedy'. The film uses a mix of archive footage from Augusto's broadcast days and new material as the couple go about their daily lives, noticing the sensory experience of the everyday and how it interacts with Augosto's condition. The Eternal Memory offers a unique and refreshing perspective on dementia, ageing and coupledom. Next, Anna Smith talks to Ella Glendining about the making of and motivation behind her documentary Is There Anybody Out There?. Today we're bringing you two Sundance documentaries dealing with Women's Issues that we knew we had to cover, Plan C, and Smoke Sauna Sisterhood. Plan C follows Francine Coeytaux and her team of providers as they find ways to distribute abortion pills across the country during the pandemic, as well as after the fall of Roe V. Wade. Director Tracy Droz Tragos shares how she met Francine and gained her trust, and how documenting this story has turned her fear into hope.
