In part one of this story last week, we learned about Utah millionaire Franklin Bradshaw, who over the years had gained both a stupendous fortune and a strained relationship with some of his family—in particular with his youngest and wildest daughter, Frances. Frances had for years been pressuring and manipulating her mom, Berenice, to steer some of the family fortune her way, and whenever Frank got in the way of that, Frances would be furious. At the end of last week's episode, we met Frances's own young family, two boys, Marc and Larry, that she was strangely insistent on keeping apart. Marc was the favored son, allowed to stay at home. Frances told him his brother Larry had been sent to a mental institution, but he was in fact just staying with relatives. This was a family of strange pressures and manipulations that would ultimately lead to Franklin Bradshaw being shot dead. This is part two of “The Price of Love: The Murder of Franklin Bradshaw.”Sources:Shana Alexander, “Nutcracker. If you've ever felt like you're riding a menstrual cycle roller coaster of cravings, exhaustion, and mood swings– this conversation is for you. In this episode, I'm joined by leading researcher and women's hormone expert Dr. Sarah E. Hill to unpack what's really going on in your body—and your brain—during your cycle. Dr. Hill breaks down how shifting levels of progesterone and estrogen in the second half of your cycle can impact everything from your sleep and appetite to your mood and libido. We also talk about how this becomes even more complex—and important to understand—during perimenopause, when hormone patterns start to change unpredictably. You'll learn why traditional health advice often fails women during this phase of life, and what to do instead to actually support your body. It's time to rethink your period, reclaim your energy, and finally feel in sync with your hormones! Dr. Sarah Hill Dr. Sarah E. Hill is a researcher and professor at TCU, lead science advisor for 28, and the author of The Period Brain and This Is Your Brain on Birth Control. Sarah's work has resulted in more than 80 research publications, with features in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Scientific American, The Economist, and on shows like Good Morning and Today. Sarah is a well-known speaker, consultant, and media expert in women's health, hormones, and sexual psychology. IN THIS EPISODE Understanding our hormone changes over the course of a cycle Why cycle symptoms can be different during perimenopause How past trauma impacts PMS and your stress response What's really happening with your hormone levels in your cycle Managing your stress response system to feel safe in your body The negative impacts stress has on your reproductive system The critical connection between your brain and sex hormones About Dr. Sarah Hill's newest Book: The Period Brain QUOTES “The week– or for some women, it's even the full two weeks– of the luteal phase can be a really challenging time emotionally as their body is struggling to keep up with those wild swings and hormones. But then also as you go into perimenopause, you're going through a period of intense hormonal change, and unlike what goes on across a regular cycle, it's unpredictable.” “Women are twice as likely as men to have mental health-related illnesses. They're more than twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with anxiety. They're more likely to experience burnout in the workplace. I mean, the list goes on, and it's because there's way too much that's expected of us. And one thing that women don't recognize about it is that in addition to this being bad for things like cardiovascular health… it can also prevent you from even producing sex hormones.” “A big part of The Period Brain is first, just really giving women a roadmap to the second half of their cycle, since it's not something that's really talked about.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Preorder the Perimenopause Revolution and get your VIP ticket to the Perimenopause Solution event http://hayh.site/pr_bl_ap-snyder_a_opt Use code ENERGIZED and get 10% off on your first Troscriptions order http://troscriptions.com/ENERGIZED Order Dr. Sarah Hill's Book: The Period Brain Dr. Sarah Hill's Website Dr. Hill's Instagram Dr. Hill's Facebook RELATED EPISODES 686: Your Second Puberty Explained: What's Really Happening to Your Body in Perimenopause #648: This Changes Everything: The Perimenopause Revolution Every Woman Needs Now #622: How to Feel Prepared for the Massive Hormone Shifts in Midlife with Dr. Taz Bhatia #510: Need to Calm The Estrogen Drama Causing Period Problems? In the last episode we talked about Maria Montessori, her becoming the first female doctor in Italy and her impact on alternative learning methods. Today I'm talking about Lillian Gilbreth who was the first female to get her psychological doctorate in industrial organizational psychology. Lillian is the original “Cheaper By the Dozen” mom who exemplified what it meant to be a successful working mother. Lillian Gilbreth Lillian married Frank, in Rhode Island, in 1904. While growing their family, Lillian and Frank started a company together called Gilbreth Incorporated. She studied how to make the workplace support their workers. She was able to publish many papers about her findings but they were all under Frank's name due to “the times” and women's rights. And I'm sure we don't have some of her work. She was the first person to link scientific management with psychology after earning her PhD in Applied Psychology. There is a large gap of information and I hope to change that with the research I want to do. Unfortunately Frank passes away when she's 46. Lillian's Ideas After studying how we use our homes, Lillian came up with a kitchen design. Remember this was back when food wasn't so “grab and go” and a lot of people made things from scratch. There was an assigned space for your ingredients like flour and sugar. Lillian came up with the triangle between your refrigerator, stove, and kitchen sink. Lillian discovered the proper counter height, the pedal trash can, and shelves & egg/butter storage in the door of the refrigerator. There is a whole kitchen that Lillian designed and most of it didn't get implemented into homes. Why? It baffles me! Maybe that's my next move? I think it's so critical for me to get my PhD so that I can publish information that will live well beyond my life span, for future generations. Greg often wants to bring up our resale value on our home when I come to him with one of my ideas of how we could modify our home to meet our current phase of life. In all reality I don't see us ever moving but also I want to enjoy my house not just preserve it for resale. I think kids rooms should be larger, there should be command central for household managers like I saw in Greenfield Village, and much bigger laundry rooms. We buy these homes before we have accumulated all the things including kids and all of their things. We need to make homes more functional for less modification and more productivity! If money were no object right now, what would you change about your house? 40's? Just Getting Started Lillian was just 46 when her husband passed away. And she was just getting started. Time and time again, I learn about people being 45 plus when they made their contribution to society. And throughout history I have also seen these people live longer lives. Women's spouses pass, they continue to raise children and run the household AND live in their passion. There is no science to back it up…yet. But I believe because these people were doing what they were uniquely created to do, they lived longer. Angela welcomes special guest, Dave Asprey, founder of the biohacking movement, on how unseen, pre-conscious processes in your body, particularly within the mitochondria, dictate your energy, reactions, and susceptibility to emotional triggers. Dave also explains why your body's initial operating system, driven by primal needs—fear, food, and fertility—influences your choices and emotional states before your conscious mind intervenes. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Pre-Conscious Body Decisions: Your body, specifically the mitochondria, processes reality and decides your emotional response within a one-third of a second 'censorship window' The Five F-Words of the Body's Operating System: The body's primal decisions are based on five priorities: Fear (run away from danger), Food (eat everything), Fertility (reproduce), Friend (support community), and Forgiveness (evolution and emotional editing). Suffering as a Choice: People will unconsciously continue patterns of suffering until the pain is great enough to overcome their internal resistance and they actively choose to change Forgiveness as an Altered State: True forgiveness is a measurable, physiological process that happens in the body, which involves finding gratitude for a small positive outcome from a negative event TIMESTAMPS AND KEY TOPICS: 01:06: EMF exposure and its impact on energy, hormones, and recovery. 04:09: The concept of triggers as a 'loaded gun'. 12:53: Explanation of the body's 'censorship window' and the five F-words 23:44: Health and financial challenges 29:10: The scientific difference between loud, reactive Fear and quiet, faster Intuition VALUABLE RESOURCES Join The High Performance Health Community Click here for discounts on all the products I personally use and recommend A BIG thank you to our sponsors who make the show possible: Defender Shield - go to DEFENDERSHIELD.COM/ANGELA and use the code ANGELA at checkout for an exclusive 10% off Supercharge your energy and upgrade your mitochondria with Mitopure - go to timeline.com/angela and enter code ANGELA to save 10% QUANTUM UPGRADE - Go to quantumupgrade.io and use code ANGELA15 to get your 15 day free trial. WARNING, this episode contains adult content. Most wives truly love their husbands, yet still feel confused by what he needs, what drives him, and what hurts him. Most husbands deeply love their wives, yet struggle to explain what's really going on inside. In this episode, John Heinen and Devin Schadt unpack the four deepest needs of men. With honesty, research, and Catholic wisdom, they bring clarity to what women often misunderstand and what men rarely articulate. You'll discover why intimacy is about far more than sex, why beauty speaks to a man's soul, why respect is fundamental in your relationship, and how to move forward in true partnership. If you've ever wanted to better understand your husband, or yourself as a man, this conversation brings insight, compassion, and truth.

" You can't ultimately control what happens in a race. And so you convince yourself you can, right? Or you tell yourself, well, if I control these other things, I might be able to control what happens in the race." Stephanie Reents ran for four years on the Amherst College women's Cross Country team in the early 90s, and is the author of "We Loved to Run" her debut novel. Reents wanted there to be a novel about women's running, stories about the identities athletes hold and how those identities shape and change team dynamics, friendships, and relationships...to themselves, to their sport, and to each other. She didn't shy away from including the full spectrum of a collegiate athlete's experiences—disordered eating, body shaming, navigating trauamtic experiences, and still, continuing to compete. In this episode, Reents shares her own experiences as both a high school and collegiate athlete, and of course, why she wrote the stories of these young women athletes from the perspective of their Cross Country team, on a quest to make Nationals. She sold her advertising agency to write stories about the fierce, overlooked women who built America. CK Van Dam's debut novel, Proving Her Claim, has already won two Spur Awards and immerses readers in a frontier romance as bold and expansive as the Dakota plains themselves. In this episode, CK shares the inspiration behind her “On the Dakota Frontier” series, why she chose to spotlight unconventional heroines like Anna Olson, and how historical fiction can challenge the myths we've been told about the American West. If you're looking for adventure, romance, and action all woven into a powerful story of resilience and reinvention, you won't want to miss this conversation. Quotes: “History is full of women who were strong, resourceful, and too often forgotten.” “Romance on the frontier wasn't just about love—it was about survival.” “Fiction lets us reimagine the past and reclaim voices that history left out.” Resources: Follow CK Van Dam on Facebook Connect with CK Van Dam on LinkedIn On the Dakota Frontier
What if the Bible was written with deep structural patterns designed to echo across generations—economically and theologically? In this riveting episode, Dr. Joshua Berman joins Dru Johnson to reveal how literary design, verbal repetition, and cultural continuity make the Bible not a patchwork, but a carefully composed unity. Through examples ranging from Genesis and Judges to Exodus and Samuel, Berman shows how the same words, images, and narrative arcs—like “sword and bow” or reversal of blessing—carry deliberate echoes and layered meanings across the text. They also explore gendered storytelling in Exodus 2, the function of poetry in biblical prose, and why embedded songs like Exodus 15 don't contradict the narrative—they expand it. Berman explains how ancient readers trained in repetition and orality would have caught these cues instantly, and why modern readers miss them. This episode is also a personal one, as Berman shares how leading Jewish tours in Egypt deepened his faith in the biblical text—and even led to unexpected moments of hope across religious and national divides. What happens to mean girls when they grow up? Some get better at hiding it. Some run companies. And some of us realize we've carried those voices in our own heads. In this episode, I sit down with Erin Gallagher — CEO and founder of Hype Women — who turned one viral post about Jamie Lee Curtis hyping Michelle Yeoh into a global movement. Her new book Hype Women dives head-first into the tangled mess of mean-girl culture, good-girl conditioning, and the patriarchy that benefits from keeping women small.Erin and I get into the psychology of comparison, the lie of “being nice,” and why learning to hype yourself and other women is an act of rebellion. We're unpacking the unspoken rules that keep ambitious women silent, self-critical, and secretly exhausted. You'll walk away seeing jealousy, judgment, and competition through a new lens and start rewiring them for good. What You'll LearnHow Hype Women became a cultural movement (and what Jamie Lee Curtis had to do with it)The difference between mean-girl behavior and “good-girl” conditioningWhy jealousy is often just desire wearing a disguiseHow patriarchy profits from women doubting each otherWhat happens when you stop abandoning yourself to stay likedThe truth about “playing nice” versus being authenticHow to spot internalized misogyny hiding in everyday interactionsThe mindset shift that turns envy into empowermentThis conversation is your permission slip to stop shrinking. When Alissa Quart's 90-year-old mother received a terminal diagnosis, she faced a daunting question: what to do with 400 paintings created over three decades. Her solution was unconventional, distributing the work directly to neighbors, friends, and anyone who wanted to live with her mother's art. The story she shares with host Alyson Stanfield touches on something much larger: what artists actually need to sustain their practice and how we think about legacy when the traditional art world isn't an option. You'll learn: How to approach inventorying and distributing an artist's work when they can no longer do it themselves Why affordable housing is critical infrastructure for artists and what happens when creative communities are priced out The legal and economic barriers that prevent cities from supporting working artists How one New York Times article elevated an artist's work in ways decades of painting couldn't When to stop building an artist's legacy and how to set boundaries around the work HIGHLIGHTS 01:30 Barbara Quart's journey from East Village bohemian to 30 years of daily painting 05:40 The horror story that sparked a mission to honor her mother's wishes 08:20 Looking for external validation through local gallery shows in the Berkshires 10:40 The circumstances that allowed 30 years of sustained art practice 12:50 Why artists need community, not just queen bees but worker ants too 14:40 Legal barriers that restrict housing developments for artists 17:00 How art production creates billions in economic activity 23:10 Starting with an inventory and creating a catalog system 26:30 Women who inherit their husband's art and sacrifice their own lives 29:20 The art destruction party where artists let go of their work 34:10 How one piece in the New York Times changed everything 38:10 Barbara started painting again after the article's positive response 42:00 Collective joy and questioning the myth of individualism 44:00 The promise that consciousness can persist beyond the hand that picked up the brush

We talk about how Seth was convinced by Bootsy Collins to tell his mother and the women of P-Funk's stories, how he initially assumed this tale was going to be told as a documentary, Mallia Franklin's appearance in the Don Letts docuemntary Tales Of Dr. Funkenstein, Seth (at age 6) being taken by his grandmother to go watch his mom perform with Parliament/Parlet for the first time, how he was able to narrow down this immense story from all the hudnreds of characters in this group's varied history, the strgggles with having your Mom be a recording and touring star, how Mallia Franklin brought elements to the band that changed music FOREVER, George Clinton and his initial band The Parliments, how Mallia's vocals are all over their recoridngs from Maggot Brain to Atomic Dog, the vast age diffrerences within the band, Mallia being called "the geiger counter" because her musical institncts were so incredible on who to bring into the p-funk world (like Bootsy Collins & Junie Morrison), how we often take a documentary's storytelling a the truth, being the "Dog & Cat Lady", why you can see so many full concert footage from Parliment's heyday, Neil Bogart of Casblanca Records and the courting of Mallia Fraklin, the genesis of the female-led spin off groups Parlet and Brides Of Funkenstein, why George Clinton put all various bands on diffferent record labels, how Geroge often didn't want his various bands to get bigger than him, how young the members of P-Funk were and how they often were not prepared for the psychological components of being part of it, Seth's thoughts on following up the book with a documentary vs a narritave series, how the women of P-Funk were not being invited to the induction ceremonies of the Grammys and Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, who should play his mom in the movie version of this story and more.So let's celebrate the queens of P-Funk forever on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie.SETH NEBLETT: Book: https://utpress.utexas.edu/9781477332672/Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@sethneblett7268REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss.
