Tað hevur hon gjørt í mong ár og tað ger hon framvegis, sjálvt um hon 1. jaunar í ár fylti 100 ár og kundi halda stóran føðingardag. -Tað er gott at fáa at vita, at tey sum fáa bundnu pløggini eru glað fyri tey. Tað er ein góð kensla at kunna gleða onnur, eisini langt úti í heimi, tí tað eru nógv sum treingja tað, heldur Jóna Hammer. Hennara fulla navn er Jóna Apolonia, Marjun Hammer. Ikki minst tá sonurin Jógvan sum lítil fekk meningitis og bleiv brekaður, tí hann ikki fekk rætta heilivágin, og doyði bert 35 ára gamal.   Í 1938 var Jóna í Danmark saman við hundrað øðrum skúlabørnum úr Føroyum at vísa føroyskan dans fram.

In this episode, Apolonia is joined by Andrew Boyd, a former cybersecurity consultant who ditched his desk job, strapped on a helmet and a harness, and found a more fulfilling career in the trees. What can safety professionals learn from a man who prunes trees, chops down trees, removes deadwood and trees, and grinds tree stumps? A lot, apparently! Listen to this episode to find out! Today's topics include: * Andrew started in software engineering but found the desk job isolating, leading him to explore tree climbing as a way to combine problem-solving and physical activity. *Andrew's transition from a desk job to tree work, and how his analytical mindset has helped him in this new field. * How many tree workers lack proper training and safety practices, leading to injuries and bad habits. How Andrew started his own business to prioritize safety and best practices, despite potential slower work rates. * Stories of unethical company cultures and near-incidents, highlighting the importance of setting one's own rules and regulations. * Andrew recounts a dangerous tree climbing experience with a colleague who made multiple mistakes, including not tying the rope properly and not paying attention. * The importance of building confidence and comfort level in a safe manner, while also respecting individual boundaries and not pushing people to do something they're uncomfortable with, even if it's not a safety issue. * Safety protocols and leadership in a tree service industry, including how layered safety measures, such as wearing chaps, are important for preventing accidents. * How leaders set the tone for their organization's culture by their actions and behaviors. * If leadership doesn't prioritize safety standards, it may be a sign that the company doesn't truly care about its workers. * The importance of standing up for safety and leading by example, even if it means pausing a project or speaking up when someone is not following safety protocols. Safety is at the core of the culture of every business. Sometimes it's in direct ways, sometimes in indirect ways, but safety is always at the core of the work people do.   Apolonia Rockwell is the Founder and CEO of True Safety Services, a company that specializes in on-site safety consulting and in helping employers with Safety/CDL Training local to Colorado, as well as nationwide.   With a front-row seat to the dangers and harsh realities of hazards in the workplace in her childhood, adult Apolonia was fascinated and relieved to learn about federally mandated safety requirements. She now works to bridge the gap between a company's safety director and the employees they work to protect.   As a strong female in a male-dominated field, Apolonia has taken an effective approach to getting employee buy-in, connecting with the unspoken leaders, and using curiosity to invoke respect.   Safety is often disregarded or minimized, but effective safety practices always start with leadership. Effective cultural change can only happen when leaders exhibit the behavior they want to see in their team.   Apolonia shares a variety of incidents, insights, and experiences she has had over the years, and the ultimate safety that leaders in every field need to focus on — the mental and emotional health of their employees.   Interview Links: Apolonia Rockwell   Resources: Growth Navigator Coaching Scaling Up Summits (Select Bill Gallagher as your coach during registration for a discount.) When Danish filmmaker Lea Glob first met Apolonia Sokol in 2009, she appeared to be leading a storybook life. The talented Apolonia was born in an underground theatre in Paris and grew up in an artist community — the ultimate bohemian life. In her 20s, she studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, one of the most prestigious art academies in Europe. Over the years, Lea kept returning to film Apolonia as the latter sought her place in the art world, grappling with the agonies and joys of womanhood, the relationships with others and her own body and creation. The result is a fascinating portrait of the young woman's trying voyage into the art world. Apolonia is confident in her talent, but her path is not always an easy one to tread. Life is not a storybook, and Apolonia learns that women painters have to make more sacrifices and overcome greater obstacles than their male counterparts. This also applied to the friend she lived with for a long time, Oksana Shachko, one of the founders of the feminist action group Femen. Apolonia's resilience is put to the test. As time passes and a special bond grows between Apolonia and Lea, we witness a film being born and a painter rising to fame. 13 years on, the two women continue to reflect on each other's paths in this mesmerizing film about art, love, motherhood, sexuality, representation, and how to succeed in a world dominated by patriarchy, capitalism and war, without losing oneself. Director Lea Glob (Olmo & the Seagull) joins us for a conversation on how and why her first meeting with Apolonia propelled them both on this complex and meaningful journey, how she navigated the line between director and subject during the 13-year long duration of the project, the impact that Oksana had on Apolonia, and where are Apolonia and Lea today.  Surrounded by a Bohemian cast of characters, she was conceived and grew up in an avant-garde theater in Paris; she aspired to be a painter. What could be more romantic than that? In “Apolonia, Apolonia”, director Lea Glob's epic and fascinating portrait of Apolonia Sokol, romantic ideals intermingle with the hard realities of what it takes for a talented young woman without a trust fund or family connections to make it in the art world.   Joining Ken on the pod, Lea describes how, as a Danish film student, she became intrigued by Apolonia, so much so that she continued filming with her off-and-on for 13 years. What was it about Apolonia and her life that grabbed Lea's attention and held her focus for so long? What was the key moment in Los Angeles when Apolonia, facing a personal crisis, called on Lea's camera to make a bold statement of freedom? And how did a health crisis in Leas' life widen the film's lens and help save her own life? It's a story as captivating and complex as any painting.   “Apolonia, Apolonia” is shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film.   Hidden Gem: ”The World is Family”   Follow: @apolonia_apolonia_film on Instagram @topdocspod on Instagram and twitter   The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.

Cognitive hardiness is a concept in psychology referring to a set of attitudes and beliefs helping individuals cope with stress and adversity. Considered part of the field of positive psychology, it studies factors contributing to human flourishing. Dr Kenneth Nowack is author of the 2021 paper, "Cognitive hardiness in coaching: Personality trait, skill, or outcome?" * Cognitive hardiness, often viewed as a personality trait, is related to resilience, the ability to bounce back from difficult experiences. Psychologist, Suzanne Kobasa, first developed the concept, based on 3 core beliefs or attitudes: 1.      Commitment: The belief that one is invested in, and engaged with, the world and has a sense of purpose and meaning in life. 2.      Control: The belief that one can influence and shape events in one's life, and that external factors do not solely determine outcomes. 3.      Challenge: The belief in post-traumatic growth; that change and adversity, instead of being insurmountable obstacles, are opportunities for growth and development. Overall, cognitive hardiness is an important concept in the study of resilience, coping, and mental health.
