Zeitmarken spoilerfreier Teil 00:00:00 - Begrüßung 00:01:47 - Erwartungen 00:03:50 - Rolle in der Hohen Republik 00:05:49 - Toss a Coin to your Witcher 00:08:58 - Eine Augenweide! Allen Hall: We're back with Lene Hellstern, the Director of Engineering at PEAK Wind, and we're talking about onshore wind siting, which is a really critical issue that a lot of operators have difficulties with. And I've seen it in the United States and it's not good. And I'm wondering from your perspective, what are some of the problems, Lene? Well first, welcome back to the podcast. Lene Hellstern: Thank you. And thanks for having me repeat experience last time, so I hope so. I thought I'll pop in again. Allen Hall: Well, it's good to have you back and thanks Lene Hellstern: for coming to Copenhagen. Allen Hall: Yeah, well we love Copenhagen. It's great. Uh, I just wish it was a little bit warmer. Yeah, the sun is terrific. Yeah. When you're in it, well, at Lene Hellstern: least I fixed that. Right. Yes. It's not raining. It's not raining. Yes. Allen Hall: We, we quite enjoyed it. Uh, but I'm trying to get an understanding of what the underlying issues are with onshore wind siding and why some of the operators have difficulty later on. Let's just start with the sighting [00:01:00] itself. Yeah. Is usually, we'll see a wind mast out on site for several months, maybe a year, maybe two years. To try to get some wind data. We would Lene Hellstern: really like that. Yeah. Okay. But, uh, the preferable measurements are lidars. Allen Hall: Oh, lidars. Yeah. I have not seen a lot of lidars in use. Lene Hellstern: No. You, you need to get some more. Allen Hall: Why? Lene Hellstern: Um, because they reach higher. Allen Hall: Okay. Lene Hellstern: Um, and you can, uh, you can, you can move them around. Right. And the hassle of installing a Met Mass that's a hundred meters tall, is, uh, is it a problem? Quite, uh. Quite it, it cost a lot more. Yes. Um, and, and the lidars, they, they just, they're better and they measure higher. And you can, you can have one sort of mother lidar and then you can move the other around and you can cover your wind resources and site suitability much better on the site. So I would definitely recommend Allen Hall: lidars. Okay. How the lidars use a [00:02:00] good bit of power to make them run, correct? Yes. So you need a decent power source? Yes. Lene Hellstern: You do? Yes. Allen Hall: Okay. Yeah. I, is that one of the difficulties why they don't use a lidar? Is it just in a lot of remote areas, they don't have the power source to run it? Lene Hellstern: It could be, or it could be the, the lack of knowledge. Right. Traditionally we have used med masks, yes. Allen Hall: Forever. Lene Hellstern: Uh, so, so it could be, and then there are also some, um, uh, some issues with uncertainties because the lidar is the, the standards are not up to date. I would say that's the political way correct way of saying it. So. Eh, the standard actually introduces more uncertainty on the lidar that's really not necessary to, due to a calibration with a me mast. Um, so that there's some, there's some things that needs to improve in that area Allen Hall: because a lidar should be a lot more accurate than a met mast. Lene Hellstern: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. But, but the, the downside of the lidar, so that, that is not often we see that, is if you don't have enough particles in the air,

Lene Hellstern, director of engineering at PEAK Wind, discusses the critical importance of thorough technical, commercial, and financial due diligence before investing in wind farm projects. Email us! Allen Hall: Wind farm developers often face a challenging reality. Projected power output doesn't match actual performance. This gap can mean millions in lost revenue and unexpected challenges. This week we speak with Lene Hellstern director of engineering at PEAK Wind. With over 24 years of experience analyzing wind projects worldwide, Lene brings crucial insights about what developers need to know before investing millions in wind farm development. This is a great interview. Stay tuned. Welcome to Uptime Spotlight, shining Light on Wind Energy's brightest innovators. This is the progress Powering tomorrow. Allen Hall: Lene, welcome to the program. Lene Hellstern: Good to be here. Allen Hall: We've been wanting to talk to you for a long time. So I'm glad you're on the podcast because your interaction with developers is remarkable and the process that you go through I think is eye-opening. 'cause I don't see that process happening at all wind sites and in Europe I think it happens more commonly. But in the United States not so much. Why or when developers not consulting experts like you before, they spend hundreds of millions of dollars. What is the problem with that? Lene Hellstern: It actually, it does happen, but yeah, sometimes it don't. And yeah, I might not be the right one of asking to ask this question. Maybe you should ask them as well why don't you do it? But I, so for some it's it's budget constraints, right? Because you're a consultant and then they don't immediately see, how this money that I'm paying the consultant, how does that convert into a gain? Profit. It could be seen as some loose and money just because they're asking a lot of questions on technical stuff. It could also be that they are unaware, many are more into the financial part of it. And they have this perception that it's not needed, the the technical due diligence or the commercial due diligence as the financial, because it's like buying a car. It is really not like buying a car. So maybe that is, that's the reason. And that they think, the wind always blows, so it's gotta go the turbine. But that's just not how this world. Joel Saxum: Would it be fair to say that some of your customers have felt the pain or they've gotten burned and that's why they're there? Lene Hellstern: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And you also, we can ask a lot of questions in the process before you buy the turbines. And then we can cover a lot of risks and you can mitigate before everything falls apart. Right. And that gives them a really good advantage, right? They can cover their themself and take all kind of scenarios into consideration, right? And you get a much, if you ask kindly to the OE em, you do get some answers and you get a better collaboration with the OEM. If you conduct these technical due diligence, if you yell and scream at them, it's not gonna go well. No. Kill with kindness. That's much better than threats. And I want this, and demand that and just ask, right? Allen Hall: So what are they missing? Generally,

This is very understandable. Sinn Féin's access to successive US administrations was won after decades of very hard work by many people across North America. Understandably they do not want to jeopardise or lose that influence. It is worth noting that in the past Sinn Féin has always attended White House events when invited, including during President Trump's first term in office. So the Sinn Féin decision was taken after much deliberation. The catalyst for this was the recent statements from President Trump in which he calls for the expulsion of over two million Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip, his refusal to countenance their return and his proposal that the United States of America will take over the region. As Donald Trump returns to the White House, many American citizens are willing to tear everything down. Where did these destructive inclinations come from? Might they partly reflect the way that voters learned history back in school? How well are we teaching history through the eyes of people living then so we can learn from their experiences? To what extent are we introducing students to their culture's proud traditions so they feel inspired to defend them rather than throw everything away?In this episode of How My View Grew, we explore these questions by hearing from someone from outside the United States. Lene Rachel Andersen is a Danish author, futurist, and economist. As a student, she knew history was important. However, when challenged by a classmate, she couldn't explain why. Lene sensed the disjointed nature of the history curriculum but couldn't pinpoint what was missing. Years later, as the result of a TV series she created that went awry, she discovered answers to both questions. Then postmodernism entered the scene, and Lene wondered: should we be teaching deconstruction to third graders—or can this wait until later?Lene's story reveals deep lessons for avoiding authoritarianism and meeting other challenges of our time.**Key takeaways**8:00 A classmate's question about history stump Lene12:00 Put yourself in the shoes of people in history14:00 To avoid authoritarianism and stupid wars, understand history and humans18:00 Pitfalls of the postmodern approach to history24:00 An exciting pilot project in a Danish public school27:00 Third grade teachers shouldn't be teaching deconstruction32:00 Amiel's reflections**Resources**Lene's web site"The Surprising Lesson of History"—from season one of this podcast**Subscribe to the podcast**To hear the origin stories of more big ideas, subscribe to How My View Grew on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.**Share the love**Leave me a rating or review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.
