An exclusive interview with one of the most thoughtful and interesting superstars in sport - Maro Itoje - joins Gabby and Mark in studio as a special Christmas treat from The Sports Agents... The England & Saracens lock reflects on a disappointing Autumn Nations series, praises the culture head coach Steve Borthwick is building and what the England captaincy would mean to him. A keen Arsenal fan, Maro speaks brilliantly about the differences between fan culture in rugby and football and where the two sports can still learn from one another. Plus, Maro opens up about the charitable projects close to his heart, why his interests outside of rugby actually help him stay at the top of his game and on becoming a role model in a sport that lacked diversity when he was growing up. We're delighted to be joined by Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu to discuss the big result of the weekend as Scotland saw off a resurgent Wallabies to end their Home Grand Slam dreams. We hear all about the surprise appearance of Scotlands newest star.... Sione's granny, who flew in to surprise him. Also what about that hit from Joseph Suaalii.... "felt like someone had climbed through my body" and there was a serious load of spiciness out on the pitch with serious amounts of niggle.Whats it like for Sione to play the country where he grew up and how did he become the chatter in chief against many of his friends on the Wallaby side.We hear from Ryan who was at the game as a pundit and the celebrations after the match. We round up all the Autumn Nations matches from the penultimate weekend and provide a state of the union for the different countries... South Africa are the worlds most dominant team..... what about a hypothetical match with France? What can Wales do next? Fiji feelings after a the tour... Sam Cane's last match, the most passionate captains, Australia's stand out performers and plenty more.....And what about England? What have we learned, let's see how Max can describe their current status in the most eloquent way of course...Above all thank you for listening and watching and don't forget to like and more importantly comment!!! Brett McKay and Harry Jones are joined on The 8-9 Combo by Irish sportswriter and playwright Patrick McCarry to look back over the final full weekend of the Northern Spring Autumn Series Tour, and then to cast an eye forward to the final international fixture for 2024 this weekend coming, when Ireland host Australia at the Aviva in Dublin this Saturday. The Irish haven't had the smoothest of time through this Autumn Nations, and have had to make adjustments to the new Law Variations in play, but this weekend, there is also a much revered character to deal with: the return of Joe Schmidt, with his rebuilding Wallabies in tow. Class is in session as Hugh Woozencroft, Rachael Burford and Alex Goode grade the Autumn Nations Series for key teams. They are joined by South Africa captain and legend John Smit, who assesses an incumbent Springboks side ahead of their World Cup defence in 2023, as well sharing his views on Rassie Erasmus. The team also pay tribute to the late, great Doddie Weir and his legacy on and off the pitch, discuss England's capitulation at the weekend, Australia's 21 point comeback against Wales and also nominate the hardest lads across all the international sides. Plenty of thunder and lightening in this episode (literally) where James and myself look at: -The passing Autumn Nations games -The Team of The Year, as well as making our own But, most importantly, welcoming back the Gallagher Premiership and the international stars too!
It's a big episode of TFRY and we've got a lot to talk about with lots of feelings attached to the things to talk about. On this episode we are talking World Rugby Awards, primarily the winners and how much we enjoyed them this year. Yes, we spend a large amount of time on the debacle and sham that is USA Rugby, what happened and where to go from here (not towards Edward Jones). Fair warning, we didn't really pull any punches in the subject matter, both at the upper levels and right down to the local level. We also talk about the suspension of the South African DOR and of course dive into this weekend's Autumn Internationals. Grab something to drink, you might need it and join us!
Mark Reilly and Benjamin Geary return for the latest instalment of The Breakdown Podcast! The duo dive into Ireland's triumph over the New Zealand All Blacks at the Aviva Stadium last weekend, as well as previewing Ireland's final Autumn Nations test against Argentina!
Big Jim and Goodey are joined by former Ireland international and friend of the show Stephen Ferris to dissect Ireland's phenomenal victory over the All Blacks.
