With less than eight months until the World Cup in France, the Wallabies have sacked their coach, New Zealander Dave Rennie, and replaced him with veteran Eddie Jones, whom himself was fired as England's head coach just last month. Jones was last in charge of the Australian team from 2001 until 2005, during which time he coached the Wallabies to a Rugby World Cup final, and a Tri Nations series win. Host Carl Lewis and rugby punter Neal Hoogwerf are back and they p[review and provide betting tips for the Rugby Championship and NPC in New Zealand. The Rugby Championship has mostly been a New Zealand-led procession in recent years but this season it resembles a genuine competition going into round three with all four teams having notched a win apiece. New Zealand and South Africa would appear best placed to stamp their authority on this weekend's fixtures but the fluctuating fortunes of the southern hemisphere powers this year make predictions a little trickier than usual. New Zealand and South Africa would appear best placed to stamp their authority on this weekend's fixtures but the fluctuating fortunes of the southern hemisphere powers this year make predictions a little trickier than usual. Argentina, so often the tournament whipping boys, top the standings after thrashing Australia two weeks ago but face a tough clash against the All Blacks, who revived their season with an impressive victory over South Africa last time out. The world champion Springboks, meanwhile, would be strong favourites to hand the struggling Wallabies a fourth defeat of the season at Adelaide Oval on Saturday were it not for their woeful record on Australian soil. South Africa have won only four of 29 away tests against the Wallabies since the championship began as the Tri-Nations in 1996, the last coming in Brisbane in 2013. "It's a strange one, it's not that we underestimate them or treat them differently to New Zealand," lock Lood de Jager said. "Maybe it is the style of play, but we have an opportunity to not look back in history, but rather look forward and do something that not a lot of Springbok teams have managed in the past ..." Coach Jacques Nienaber has cut a member from his famous 'Bomb Squad' bench to bring in an extra back but with Faf de Klerk returning at scrumhalf, the Wallabies are expecting the usual bombardment of high balls mixed with stifling defence. Reece Hodge, safe under the high ball and with a prodigious boot of his own, has been brought into the Australia team at fullback in one of six changes to the side that was embarrassed 48-17 by the Pumas. "They've got a good kicking game and a good defence and we've got to win that aerial battle," coach Dave Rennie said. "It's a massive game for us ... the Rugby Championship is pretty even and we need to stay in the fight." While the Springboks will be out to snap a nine-year losing streak in Australia, the Pumas will be looking for a first-ever away win over the 11-times southern hemisphere champion All Blacks in Christchurch on Saturday. Coach Michael Cheika, who was a consultant with the Pumas when they secured their only win over the All Blacks in Sydney two years ago, has unsurprisingly stuck largely with the players who tore apart the Wallabies in San Juan. "We face a situation where we need to change history," he said. "We haven't won here before ... I want to be part of the coaching staff that beats New Zealand for the first time in New Zealand. The opportunity is there." All Blacks coach Ian Foster has retained the team that saved his job with the 35-23 victory in Johannesburg in the last round and he will expect them to get their season back to parity at three wins and three losses. "The recent form of Argentina makes this a test one that we are looking forward to," he said. "And the fact that the Rugby Championship is incredibly even meant this test is vital to us."

Richard Harry was a halfback, who became a flanker and finally a loosehead prop in order to realise his dream of representing Australia. Harry's first taste of representative football came when he attended Scotch College in Melbourne and was selected at halfback for Victoria in the 1979 National Age Championships. In 1980 his family moved to Sydney and he attended Barker College. It was there that his size and speed prompted a shift to flanker. On leaving school he studied for an economics degree at Macquarie University and played for the Eastwood club. He then spent a year in London where he played for Harlequins. On his return to Eastwood, he represented NSW `B' as a flanker before former national coach Bob Dwyer suggested to his dad that Harry consider a switch to the front row. In 1994 he moved to the University of Sydney under the tutelage of Brian Burnett and within a year made his debut for New South Wales against Otago in Dunedin. A strong Super Rugby season in 1996 was rewarded with a Test debut against Wales in Brisbane. Harry went on to play a role in the 1998 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand, the Rugby World Cup victory in 1999 and Australia's first Tri Nations title in 2000. Richard Harry played 37 Tests for Australia in his five-year international career.

Closing the transtasman bubble for at least eight weeks has thrown plans for the Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship into disarray. The All Blacks are scheduled to host the Wallabies at Eden Park on August 7 in the opening Bledisloe with two tests supposed to follow in Perth and Wellington next month.New Zealand Rugby is scrambling to find solutions, working with the Government and their Sanzaar partners, as they attempt to plot contingency plans. After announcing the bubble closure for at least the next two months, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern revealed there was an avenue the Wallabies may utilise to travel to New Zealand within the next seven days.Dave Rennie's team could travel to New Zealand by utilising an economic impact exemption, potentially remaining in the country for an extended period, which could result in the All Blacks hosting all three Bledisloe tests."If there are significant economic issues that are brought up by the closure in that seven-day window that can be resolved, then we have a delegated minister to work through any of those issues," Ardern said."However, it must be in the seven-day window, we are not making exceptions outside of that. Everyone else has to go into quarantine."The bubble pauses from 11.59pm on Friday night, but managed return flights over the next seven days will allow Kiwi citizens and residents to come home.In addition to the Bledisloe matches, plans are in place for New Zealand to host four further tests during the Rugby Championship – two each against the world champion Springboks and Pumas – in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin from September 11 to October 2.Those matches include the All Blacks' 100th test against the Springboks in Dunedin on September 25.In a statement NZ Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson acknowledged the Government's latest announcement presented obvious challenges."We know the uncertainty this creates is challenging for our fans, players and partners, but remain committed to finding a path forward and continuing to deliver world-class rugby in 2021," Robinson said."We are continuing to work closely with the New Zealand Government to explore the option of bringing Australia across the Tasman for the two Bledisloe Cup tests."As we have throughout the Covid-19 pandemic our decisions will continue be guided by the advice of relevant Government and health authorities with the health and safety of our people at the forefront of any decisions. It's important we evaluate all of our options before finalising any plans."Last year the Tri Nations, featuring the All Blacks, Wallabies and Pumas after the Springboks opted out of attending, was originally planned to be staged in New Zealand. After issues with teams being unable to train together as full squads while in quarantine arose, however, the tournament was shifted to Australia. From a financial standpoint alone NZ Rugby's preference will be to host as many matches as possible this year and with full crowds currently able to attend, they have an advantage over Sydney where Covid cases continue to climb.Yet the same issue with restrictive training environments is likely to again cause problems, and the bigger challenge is New Zealand's MIQ spots are booked until the end of November.Rugby Australia chief executive Andy Marinos said: "We are working closely with New Zealand Rugby and the various Governments through different scenarios now. Rugby Australia's position has always been to prioritise the health and safety of its players, staff and fans, and today's announcement only reinforces that. We want to thank the Australian Government as well as the New Zealand Government for their support so far, as we aim for a positive outcome in the coming days."The Wallabies team have been in a secure bubble since the conclusion of the France series, with the squad assembled on the Gold Coast. The players are regularly tested for Covid-19 and have maintained strict bio-security protocols as recommended by...

Sam Cane capped his debut season as All Blacks captain with two honours at New Zealand Rugby's annual awards last night, taking out the overall player of the year as well as All Black of the year. It's been a strange 2020 for the new skipper, from Covid-19 disruptions to being beaten by Australia, losing to Argentina for the first time, but still managing to win the Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations title. The issue of head injuries is also back in the spotlight as former players continue to join a class-action lawsuit against World, England and Wales rugby, which alleges a failure to protect them from the risks caused by concussions. Rugby reporter Joe Porter spoke to Cane about whether or not he feels World and New Zealand Rugby are doing enough to decrease the risk of head injuries and the flow on effects.

He played 77 Tests for South Africa, 75 of those at lock. He twice played loose forward, and it was the two he played at No 8 that might be most remembered. Mark Andrews was a Springbok giant in every sense of the word, but in the space of seven days in 1995 he was asked to do a specific job by coach Kitch Christie, playing out of position in the back row in two of the most memorable and crucial games in South African rugby history. June the 24th marked the 25th anniversary of the Springboks winning the 1995 World Cup with a famous 15-12 victory over the All Blacks at Ellis Park. He won many accolades as a player and has gone on to achieve success in the business world. Mark won Currie Cups and a Tri-Nations title and played 94 matches in total for South Africa, but his name will always be synonymous with the class of 1995.

Springbok lock Mark Andrews, the first person to play 50 Tests for South Africa, experienced the mid to late nineties - a tumultuous time in South African rugby history - like few others. He was there in 1995 - playing out of position in the RWC final - won the 1998 Tri-Nations triumph and played in every one of the record 17 successive Test wins, but also experienced tough times in green and gold.
