EX05 - Anysley Lister UK's hottest contemporary blues guitarist with two songs, Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) and Free In this episode of the Add To My Playlist Podcast we feature Aynsley Lister. Aynsley Lister is one of the UK's hottest contemporary blues guitarists – many consider him to be among the best in the world. His unique brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary songwriting fueled with the kind of heart and soul that's missing from so much modern music. Whether passionately writing and recording his own material or mesmerizing audiences at his live shows, one thing is abundantly clear: music is hard-wired to his DNA and flows from his fingertips like sonic bolts of lightning. With over 100,000 albums sold, lashings of critical acclaim and years of high profile touring, Lister's resumé speaks for itself and firmly secures his position as a leading light in the resurgence of British blues-infused music. Lister started playing guitar at 8 and played his first concert in a bar band at the age of 13. He had learned guitar by playing along to his father's old 45s of Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton. By the time he was 18, having already been in several bands, he formed his own, which recorded two albums - Messin' With The Kid (1996) and Pay Attention! (1997). “Music is a release for me. When I play I get lost in it and it's a very happy place to be” - Aynsley Lister Aynsley Lister - Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) As a fender strat guitar player, I really enjoyed Aynsley's version of Prince's Purple Rain - Spotify suggested it to me awhile back and i fell in love with his version! Another great song I am playing over and over is his song Free - check it out… I love the solo portion from 3:49 - 4:59 4:06 - 4:30 sounds like an Ebow - I will have an episode soon on 2 of my favourite songs featuring an ebow… Take a listen to Free - a great example of a song with dynamics. I just want to get my guitar out and play along, here it is - consider adding to your Spotify playlist…. Aynsley Lister - Free Please add Aynsley Lister's cover of Prince's Purple Rain and his tune Free to your playlist - if you are a bluesy guitar fan - check out his entire catalog! Sponsored by Cathead Distillery Sponsored by Drinkmate Theme music provided by Peter Perkins Special Thank You to Lucy Piller/ARN Entertainment for providing the talent   Born Healer Bio Born Healer have been bringing their soulful, heavy, groovy blues-rock to enthusiastic audiences since 2015. Now with a rebooted mojo, they're moving up to festival main stages in 2020. And with well-received support slots recently for Aynsley Lister, Skinny Molly, Focus and more, Born Healer are hitting their stride. Helen Turner, on vocals, from Glasgow, Scotland, is "the real deal" according to Classic Rock magazine, "brilliant" and "in a different class" according to Classic Rock: The Blues, and simply "wonderful" according to Blues Matters. Beautiful vocals on record and even better live. Iain Black, on guitar, has been Helen's musical partner for several years, including in the Bare Bones Boogie Band, whose third album, Tattered & Torn, was one of Classic Rock Blues magazine's top albums of 2013, and whose gigs were attended by Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. Marek Funkas, on bass, hooked up with Helen and Iain to form Born Healer in 2015. Originally from Poland, Marek has lived in London for 20 years and plays most of his music in the UK. Marek also plays with his own band, Laba, and regularly deps for major international touring artists including live performances at London's Scala and Wembley Arena. Steve Weaver, on drums, joined Born Healer in January 2019 and brings a wealth of live performance experience from tours with original bands, tribute shows, function and cover bands. Steve fitted in super quickly to the Born Healer family and brings real spark and energy to live performances. He even fronts his own AC/DC tribute band! Andy Jones played drums in Born Healer from the start until 2019. Andy was also in the Bare Bones Boogie Band with Helen and Iain. We wish Andy all the best   http://www.bornhealer.com/

In this episode, Gareth chats with established touring artist Aynsley Lister. Having toured extensively for 22 years, Aynsley is built up a highly respectable following, particularly across the continent, with an impressive album catalogue and, in normal circumstances, a very full show diary! Aynsley and Gareth discuss, among other things, how the loyal and growing fanbase have kept him going all these years, how you grow as an artist and change with each new album release, his beginnings as a young blues-rock singer-songwriter, the double threat of Covid-19 and Brexit for touring performers, the enjoyment he's gained recently from working as a writer and session musician outside of his own music, and much more. The songs chosen for this episode are 'Straight Talkin' Woman', and 'Broke', both from Aynsley's 2013 release 'Home', as well as Ffion Rebecca's 'Love Again' in which Aynsley accompanied her on guitar, released through the HQ Familia label earlier this year. As always, you can stream all of the commercially available music from the show via the 'On The Road With Featured Songs' playlist on Spotify.

After a bit of a break for the past few weeks, it's good to be back in familiar territory. And, with new releases stacking up, I feature more new music than perhaps any other single edition of The Roadhouse. Rob Paparozzi, Aynsley Lister, Mike Zito, Boo Boo Davis, and Eddie C. Campbell step forward to testify that the blues is alive and well in 2009. And a younger generation steps into the spotlight with several other new releases. It's the newest hour of the finest blues you've never heard – the 241st Roadhouse.
