Desde su debut en 1991, Miike ha realizado mas de 60 peliculas para cine y television, confirmando su estado como uno de los directores mas controversiales del cine actual.Es conocido por ser capaz de hacer cualquier tipo de genero, como la trilogia de Accion Dead Or Alive, el controvertido filme gore Ichi the Killer, el drama-horror One Missed Call y la aclamada cinta de culto Audition.BIOGRAFÍANacio en la villa de Yao, a las orillas de Osaka, Japón el 24 de Agosto de 1960. Debido a los movimientos nomadas de su familia, Miike paso la mayor parte de su infancia yendo y viniendo de Osaka.Miike le encantaba manejar motocicletas e incluso tenía la ambición de convertirse en un corredor profesional.A sus 18 años, estudió cine en la escuela de cine de Yokohama, donde aprendio el oficio del mismísimo Shohei Imamura. El ingreso lo logró gracias a que no había examenes de ingreso, lo cual le permitio mudarse de la casa de sus padres y dado que no quería trabajar y sabía que no podría entrar en la universiadad, el estudiar en Yokohama era su única opción.En la universidad era un rebelde, no iba a clases, le iba mal en los proyectos. Una televisora fue a reclutar asistentes y lo propusieron. De cierta forma, realizó muchos trabajos menores por décadas, hasta que eventualmente se convirtió en asistente de director.Durante un tiempo dirigio telefilmes en espera de una oportunidad en la industria del cine.La oportunidad llego a mediados de los 90s con su film de gangsters Shinjiku Triad Society estrenada en 1995 y que llamo la atencion de los criticos y publico.En esta época, era muy común que los directores nuevos quisieran involucrarse en proyectos de tipo B. Esto era un puente para hacer después películas mayores."Shinjuku Triad Society” inicia una trilogía unida por el tema de la inmigración y las operaciones de la mafia china en territorio nipón, que completarían “Rainy Dog” (1997) y “Ley Lines” (1999). Esta última película es la más lograda de las tres y una de las más trágicas e interesantes de su filmografía.INICIO AL CINE DE CULTOAudition fue estrenada en 1999 y fue la cinta que le dio fama mundial a Miike. La película se expandió hacia Occidente creando un culto hacia su trabajo. Esta basada en la novela de Ryu Murakami Directores como Rob Zombie, John Landis y Eli Roth han declarado que Audition es una pelicula muy dificil de ver dado a su contenido macabro. HIPERVIOLENCIAViolencia es una herramienta muy poderosa: shock, lo asqueroso, increíble, incómodo.La violencia puede usarse de forma seria para generar una respuesta en la audiencia.Pero ¿por qué Takashi lleva esto a otro nivel? En parte es la forma en que combina la violencia con otras emociones que son completamente opuestas o que moralmente son incorrectas. Por este motivo, son cosas taboo. Mezcla de violencia con la comedia: matar a alguien y disfrutarlo Mezcla con lo sexual: hacerle daño a alguien y tener orgasmos - masoquismo Incluso suicidarte y disfrutarlo Relaciones familiares - incesto Torpezas - mezcla de una situación gore con algo chusco La violencia tipo gore, matanzas, incesto, temas taboo han sido parte de la literatura de horror por muchos años. Takashi nos entrega no solo las mezclas híbridas entre géneros sino que hace un emparejamiento visual que realza la situación.Viniendo del extremismo francés, si vieron ya algunas de las películas que mencionamos pues éstas muestran la parte decadente de la sociedad. Miike, en cambio, busca sobreponer el placer o la degeneración humana no como un "efecto" de una sociedad fallida, sino como una voluntad humana, como una expresión de los deseos más internos que el ser humano puede llegar a tener.Esto de cierta forma es relvante, por ejemplo, los actos que aparecen en Martyrs, que me parecen terribles y difíciles de sorportar por largos períodos. Si los comparamos a escenas de Ichi the Killer, podrías decir "es peor la tortura que hacen" y es en parte la mezcla de la ficción, con empujar los límites de lo que incomoda y presentarlo hasta cierta forma en una forma cómica, lo que hace posible que uno pueda ver algo terrible.ESTILO DE FILMACIÓNFuera de la hiperviolencia, podemos incluir también otros elementos en los cuales se basa en sus películas: Utiliza mezclas altamente coloridas o contrastes de oscuro con sangre brillante Escenas gore, no siempre se enfocan en ver el acto, sino las consecuencias del acto, esto hace que te imagines lo peor Incluso en escenas más calladas, serias, me recuerda un poco a Dario Argento y cómo pone énfasis en las manos, los movimientos de lo que está haciendo, sin enseñarte tal cual a la persona y solo dejar que tu imaginación y los sonidos generen la imagen que para tí, será lo más terrible. No hay nada peor que nuestra imaginación Incorpora temas modernos: feminismo (audition), represión sexual, toxicidad familiar, necrofilia No siempre utiliza actores en sus películas Busca crear historias en sus personajes, y no quedarse únicamente en la parte violenta o el shock. Ha sido muy prolífico, alrededor de 100 películas en tres décadas.Miike dice que para lograr los efectos que busca, siempre busca confiar en los demás en que van a llegar al extremo y hacer lo mejor. Dice "no puedes calcular la reacción que va a tener la audiencia, entonces, tienes que basarte en los instintos de todo el equipo, en que están buscando crear un efecto y confiar en ellos." Esto es muy interesante porque te habla de la importancia del trabajo en equipo y que a pesar de que el tiene una idea, considera que cada uno desde su rol, debe activamente buscar concretarla.Guillermo del Toro es fan de Miike. Como veía sus películas, la hija de Guillermo del Toro se entusiasmó tanto que empezó a aprender japonés.Incluso dice que cuando voltea a ver las películas que hizo antes, las ve otra vez y el mismo se sorprende... WOW... lo que hice, la violencia. Es un encuentro con el "yo" de ese tiempo.INFLUENCIASEl horror mismo. Vio de niño películas de terror que lo marcaron. Que de adulto dice, wow, no era la gran cosa pero tenía la apertura de niño para disfrutarlas. Ese sentimiento que le dejó el horror de niño, es lo que lo influencia hoy. Dejar ese mismo horror pero ahora a un adulto.Su película favorita americana es Starship Troopers. También dice que admira a Akira Kurosawa, Hideo Gosha (de los 70s, enfocado en yakuza, películas de período y las clases más bajas con alta violencia y explotación sexual), David Lynch, David Cronenberg y Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, Starship troopers).CONTROVERSIASSus filmes estan llenos de controversia, derivado de su violencia extrema, tal es el caso de Ichi The Killer, adaptacion del manga del mismo nombre, que durante su proyeccion en el Festival de cine internacional de Toronoto en 2001, a la audiencia se les daba una bolsa para vomito.La British Film Classification tuvo que cortar 3 minutos y 15 segundos para que pudiera ser proyectada en cines.Ichi fue prohibida en Noruega, Alemania y Malasia.Otro ejemplo es el capitulo para la serie Masters Of Horror llamado Imprint el cual tuvo que ser eliminado de la serie cuando era emitida por Showtime.
