On why he chose Washington...Definitely the culture. Coming from Bishop Gorman, they already had all the gear and treats, but it was a family atmosphere here and I always wanted to be a Dawg. On his position growing up...I was always a quarterback in peewees and little league. When I went to high school, I actually played defensive end, I got after DJ Uiongelele in our game against St. John Bosco that year. Eventually I transitioned to wide receiver and it went smooth. I always felt I could get it done from wherever I was playing, so it wasn't that hard. On the top receivers all being out early in the season...It was hard because we all wanted to helpt he team, but we had to keep working and getting healthy. On handling the adversity of things so far...We always talk about adversity and how to handle it. Whether it's the pandemic or the way things have gone this season, we've always worked hard to overcome adversity. On his first TD catch last week against UCLA... I have always felt the pressure to make plays. I wanted that one back on the other side of the field where I misplayed it, but I was able to come back and say "hi mom", so that was cool. I went over and pointed at her. On handling the 2-4 start...It's frustrating. UW has a history of success and we want to amplify that and we have the athletes to do that. It's not ideal, but we still have six games and we're going to keep working hard and building on things and hopefully we'll come out with some wins. On the wide receiver room...We're all pretty tight. It's about lifting each other up and about "being one". You want your brothers to succeed and they want you to succeed. Coach Junior Adams has done a good job of building that culture. On being a Dawg...I'm really happy here. I love it here. I love being a Dawg. It's a test we're going through right now with how the season has started, but we're drawing closer together and we're working as hard as we can to come out of it. On wearing a net over his head during practice...We have glasses too, but we're always looking for new tricks to enhance our game and make things harder so that when we take them off, it's easier. On what the team needs to do to be more consistent...We need to take advantage of our opportunities. We've left some plays out on the field. We need to execute. On lifting Dylan Morris up...He knows he needs to play better and we need to do a better job to go up and make plays to help him. He's a good leader, he is working his ass off to get better and we know he can play better. We know we all can play better. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This one is special for many different reasons and fan bases. Our local Reno and Vegas listeners will absolutely remember how big time of a player he was at Bishop Gorman, whereas our BYU fan base will remember him for his sacrifices to better the team. Jonathan Tavernari is in the house today and we are excited to have him! His mother is a legendary hoops coach who helped push him to be considered as the top high school player to ever come out of Brazil. He moved to America where he starred at Bishop Gorman. He went on to have an outstanding career at BYU where he earned MWC Freshman of the year, and All-MWC Third Team in both his sophomore and junior seasons while also setting a program record both years for three points made. He sacrificed his starting spot to be the team’s 6th man during his senior season where he earned the MWC 6th man of the year. Tavernari finished his career at BYU as the winningest player in school history and holds the school record for 3 pointers made. He has had continued great success playing overseas and for the Brazilian National Team.We loved our time with Tavernari. He shared some great stories about growing up in Brazil, Oscar Schmidt, playing through the legal distractions at Bishop Gorman, State game vs Reno High School, BYU, experience overseas, his love for Vegas and MUCH more. One thing we learned is that he is as passionate as you get both on and off the court. He is a high character guy who always put others and the team before himself. JT always found a way on the court, but of off the court? We know the best is yet to come.Thank you Jonathan Tavernari!

We are starting off the month of September HOT with The Quiet Storm himself. We got C.J. Watson in the house! Our local listeners will remember him first for his days at Bishop Gorman where he absolutely dominated the court and the headlines. He went on to play 4 years at University of Tennessee, leading a nationally ranked Vols team to the NCAA tournament and becoming Tennessee’s second all-time leader in assists and steals. His journey to the NBA wasn’t easy and we got to hear all about it.It was a shock to everyone when Watson went un-drafted in the 2006 NBA Draft. He would spend time overseas and in the D-League before proving to everybody that he belonged in the NBA. Watson then went on to play 10 seasons in the NBA where he didn’t disappoint one bit. He even played in the Big3 and we learn about that too!C.J. was so gracious with his time and we really enjoyed hearing about his basketball journey. Of course we are impressed with what he can do on the court, but what he is doing off the court is even more impressive. Watson does so much for the community and the youth, and it says a whole lot about his character. The message to kids in the books he's making is valuable and uplifting so be sure to check it out at cjpens.com. We know you’ll love this one just as much as we did!Thank you C.J. Watson!
