Lancaster, California artist CL Fors is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest earning her a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and her winning art will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. CL Fors—Cherrie to her friends—was born to a mad-scientist and a mad-artist, so it's no surprise she's cultivated lifelong dual passions for art and science that shape her career in writing and illustrating science fiction and fantasy. Cherrie has lived all over the US and now calls the Southern California desert her home, where her family tethers are. She shares her life, love, and creative endeavors with her husband, four clever children, and beloved art family. Marina, California writer Robert F. Lowell is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earning him a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and his winning story will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. Robert F. Lowell's complicated relationship with reality began when he was born between two movie studios in Burbank, California. In previous professional lives he researched and wrote about international relations, weapons of mass destruction, and terrorism. He taught at universities in the U.S., Costa Rica, and Switzerland and was kissed by a dancing horse in Siberia. Now he expands the universe of online learning as an instructional systems designer and writes about swords, sorcery, robots, aliens, and magic rabbits as a member of the Wulf Pack writer's group. He, his wife, and at least one dog live in a town with very expensive weather on California's Central Coast and travel in search of enchantment. Step into his universe at www.worldsofrobertflowell.com. Broomall, Pennsylvania artist David Hoffrichter is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest earning him a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and his winning art will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. David grew up in Broomall PA, right outside of Philadelphia and not too far from several museums that would direct his love of illustration for the rest of his life. David was raised on adventure stories, magical tales of Lions, Dwarves, Elves, and heroes of all ages. The one thing these stories had in common were amazing pictures illustrated by artists who lived very close to where David first learned to love art. From N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, and Jessie Wilcox Smith, to the artistic legends who are alive today. Still brightening the world with every brushstroke they make, David revels in his appreciation of art and how it has shaped his foundation from an early age. Mesa, Arizona writers Ian Keith is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earning him a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and his winning story will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. Ian Keith went to philosophy school to learn how to tell the truth, and to law school to learn how to tailor a story to suit any set of appearances. Both trainings have helped him to write fiction, about equally. He lives with his partner and their two children in the Phoenix area, where he works as a ghostwriter. “Blackbird Stone” is his first professional publication.

What's Happening Over The Skies of New Jersey Part II THE CULLING   Strange things are happening in the skies over the Garden State New Jersey. What are they, Where are they coming from and What do they want?   PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- People from all across the Delaware Valley and up into northern New Jersey have reported seeing clusters of drones in the sky over the past several weeks. Numerous reports were sent to Action News about flying objects in Media and Broomall in Delaware County, as well as in Philadelphia's Mayfair section and in Cherry Hill, Camden County. We've been asking local and federal officials if they can offer an explanation. Simply put, so far, the answer is no. We spoke with Maureen Rush who is a 45-year law enforcement veteran and president of the Philadelphia Police Foundation. She says it's important to note that many of the sightings include commercial-grade drones, some as large as small airplanes, not the kinds used by hobbyists. "My other concern is that there are multiple drone sightings. They're almost in a flock. If they were geese, they'd be in a flock, and that's what's really unnerving for people," she said. Over in New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy has publicly stated that this drone activity does not pose a public safety concern, but he has offered little else regarding an explanation. And State Senator Doug Steinhardt says that's simply not good enough. "I'd be happy with an explanation that we've looked at it, and we don't have information, or for law enforcement to say it's an ongoing something or other, you know, and that's as much as we can tell you, but we're not even getting that which is unfortunate," said Steinhardt. And Steinhardt says he's not just speaking as a lawmaker, he's speaking as a witness. "I walked out of my front porch last night and saw it would look like drone activity to me. I mean, I've seen airplanes cross the sky before and this wasn't that," he says. Steinhardt has since sent letters to fellow lawmakers, including Governor Murphy, requesting they convene a bipartisan panel to discuss the situation. The FBI is involved in the investigation.

Surrey Senior Services President and CEO, Jill Whitcomb discussed the non-profit that provides aging-in-place services to help older adults in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties navigate and thrive in each of the transitional phases of older life.  Founded in 1981 by Jeanne LaRouche on a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” Surrey's mission was to help seniors who needed services and to engage retired seniors in need of a new sense of purpose. T oday Surrey operates centers in Devon, Bryn Mawr, Broomall and Media. Each of Surrey's centers offers a range of exercise classes, health screenings, dental work, activities, congregate meals and social events. We discussed the special needs of seniors living in suburban communities, home maintenance is more expensive, food and social activities are not withing walking distance and public transportation is expensive and infrequent.  Poverty is another problem, many older residents live on fixed incomes and housing and food insecurity are real, but hidden, issues.  Surrey delivers and coordinates critically needed services like transportation; healthy lunches and home-delivered meals; center- based and virtual programs and activities; friendly phone calls and CHORE Services–Surrey's Volunteer Network (yardwork and small home repairs). These services enable older adults to remain in their homes and age well and safely in place. When additional support is needed, Surrey is ready to help with RN Care Management; Medical Procedure Escort Services; Telehealth Services; Personal Finance Management; Live-in Care; Personal Care Services; and Social Companions. She described the Surrey operations led by nurses, social workers, experienced staff in the field of aging services, and a loyal volunteer corps, many of whom are older themselves.   Jill explains that Surrey is primarily supported through private donations, grants, volunteers, community partners, and a small percentage of government funding, so community support is needed.  They host two fundraising events each year, their annual Garden Party, this year celebrating Paris on June 12, and an annual Holiday House Tour and gift bazaar in December.    Tickets for the June 12th party will be available – while they last – on their website. For services, volunteer opportunities and information about the annual garden Party, visit SurreyServices.org.

Eight-year-old Gretchen Harrington leaves home, walking to vacation bible school at a church just a half mile from her home. Usually, Gretchen is accompanied by her two sisters, but this day, she walks alone. The older girls stay home.  It was just after  9 a.m. when Pastor Harold Harrington waved goodbye. Two hours passed before he found out Gretchen never made it to VBS. Hundreds of people took part in the search for the little girl. A police helicopter continuously flew overhead.  Teams of searchers combed the hillside of the community.  Friends and family hand out fliers with Gretchen's picture on it. Some witnesses said they had seen Gretchen outside a car, talking to someone, but nothing came of the lead. Two months later, a jogger found the skeletonized human remains of a little girl. The Harringtons confirmed the clothing found with the body as Gretchen's. It was only 20 minutes from her home.  Gretchen's manner of death is ruled a homicide. The girl's skull has been fractured by multiple vicious blows. An autopsy does not reveal sex assault, but police believe that was the motive.  Now, years later, a new book leads to the capture of a murderer.  Joining Nancy Grace Today: Joanna Falcone Sullivan - Co-author: ‘Marple's Gretchen Harrington Tragedy: Kidnapping, Murder and Innocence Lost in Suburban Philadelphia', Editor in chief, Baltimore Business Journal; Facebook: Gretchen Harrington: Innocence Lost in Suburban Philadelphia    Jarrett Ferentino - Homicide Prosecutor, Facebook & Instagram: Jarrett Ferentino   Dr. Jeff Kieliszewski - Forensic Psychologist, Author: “Darksides;" FB: forensicsandmediapsychologist/TikTok: Dr. Jeff Kieliszewski   Brandon M. We met near the monument of the 111th Pa on Culp's Hill, in the shade, with a nice, gentle Pennsylvania breeze which seems to be a rarity for these in-the-field recordings in 2020. Anyway... How did the Civil War, emancipation, and Reconstruction shape the masculinity of white Confederate veterans? As James J. Broomall shows, the crisis of the war forced a reconfiguration of the emotional worlds of the men who took up arms for the South. Raised in an antebellum culture that demanded restraint and shaped white men to embrace self-reliant masculinity, Confederate soldiers lived and fought within military units where they experienced the traumatic strain of combat and its privations together--all the while being separated from suffering families. Military service provoked changes that escalated with the end of slavery and the Confederacy's military defeat. Returning to civilian life, Southern veterans questioned themselves as never before, sometimes suffering from terrible self-doubt. Drawing on personal letters and diaries, Broomall argues that the crisis of defeat ultimately necessitated new forms of expression between veterans and among men and women. On the one hand, war led men to express levels of emotionality and vulnerability previously assumed the domain of women. On the other hand, these men also embraced a virulent, martial masculinity that they wielded during Reconstruction and beyond to suppress freed peoples and restore white rule through paramilitary organizations and the Ku Klux Klan.  James J. Broomall is assistant professor of history at Shepherd University and director of the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War.    Get Private Confederacies from UNC Press here

She's also a noted activist for gun violence reform, Black Lives Matter and equal rights for women and the LGBTQ+ community. Her wife, Aleshia Ocasio, is a professional softball player.Calling herself an underdog in the early part of her career, Cloud said she sacrificed fun, friends and even her graduation to focus on basketball. "That 11-year-old girl from Broomall, Pennsylvania - those dreams all became a reality," Cloud said, speaking of her professional sports career so far.In this episode of the Conversations podcast, Linda Duncombe, City National Bank's chief marketing, product and digital officer, speaks frankly with Cloud about the emotional and physical challenges she faces as a professional athlete, being a biracial and bisexual woman, and her phenomenal work in the community.Concentrating on activism after George Floyd's murder in 2020 helped Cloud turn her life "under a microscope" into a chance to "become a microphone" by using her voice and platform to champion reform, she told Duncombe. This presentation is for general information and education only.
