A popular bus route connecting West Clare and the county town will be altered for the next two months. Due to ongoing works being carried out by Uisce Éireann, Local Link's C12 Ennis to Miltown Malbay route will be unable to service Coore Church until December 19th. Passengers will instead have to board at either the Hand Hill or the Crosses of Annagh. Quilty Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Shannon says while there will be some disruption, the works will be worthwhile.

The National Transport Authority is expressing confidence proposed changes to a bus route in West Clare will significantly reduce journey times. Public consultation has opened on planned bus enhancements in the west of the county, among them being a pledge to increase the frequency of Route 350 to every 90 to 120 minutes. It's proposed that the bus will be re-aligned to operate between Lisdoonvarna and Ballyvaughan along the N67, while to complement these changes, Route 350C will operate along the R477 via Fanore and onto Kinvara, serving Ballyvaughan, New Quay and Nogra. Senior Transport Planner with the National Transport Authority Conor O'Donovan has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons the typical time a passenger spends on the 350 bus could be cut by 15 minutes.

Students Siofra McGuire and Aoibhín Twomey from North Clare both go to college in Galway and rely heavily on Bus Éireann's Ennis-Galway service. Siofra lives at home and uses the bus to commute to college, while Aoibhín lives in Galway, but needs the bus to return home. They have encountered issues with the 350 service and wanted to highlight their frustration at the ongoing situation. On Thursday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey spoke with Siofra and Aoibhín who highlighted some of the issues with the 350 local public transport route.
A major bus route running from Galway to Ennis has been deemed a "source of anxiety" for those who have to use it regularly. The 350 bus service, which runs six times daily and connects Galway, Kinvara, Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher and Ennis, has been frequently criticised for poor punctuality and insufficient capacity among other issues. Two students, Aoibhín Twomey and Síofra McGuire, have launched a petition which has garnered over 1000 signatures calling from frequency and capacity on the 350 to be boosted. Aoibhín, who lives and studies in Galway but relies on the bus to return home to Kinvara, believes the Government and National Transport Authority should shift their focus from tourists to local people who need dependable transport.

An overly ambitious redesign of bus routes for Louisville's school district turned into a logistical meltdown on the first day of classes, forcing schools to close. Administrators said that students may have to stay home until the mess is untangled. Parents were fuming and state politicians demanded answers after some of the district's 96,000 students didn't get picked up for school in the morning or got home hours late, with some arriving after dark. Beau Kilpatrick has five kids attending schools in the district but said the only major transportation problems were with his elementary-school-aged children, two girls in the first and third grades. The morning bus was supposed to arrive at 8:38 a.m. but never came, he said. After half an hour of waiting, he drove them to the school a few miles away. In the afternoon, the bus was almost two hours late for pickup. Kilpatrick said the children had to sit in a school hallway while waiting for the bus to arrive because the cafeteria was already full. Then the children weren't dropped off until three hours later, at 9:15 p.m. Berkley Collins, a mother of two students in the district, said her younger daughter was never assigned an afternoon bus and was left at her elementary school for hours. Collins said the district had plenty of time to implement its new bus plan, but failed. It took just one disastrous day for Jefferson County Public Schools, a sprawling urban district and the largest in Kentucky, to reexamine the new bus routing system. The plan was designed by AlphaRoute, a Massachusetts-based consulting company that uses computer algorithms to map out courses and stops. It could take a couple of days to resolve the problems enough to resume classes, Superintendent Marty Pollio said, promising to give parents plenty of notice before the start of the week. The district has 65,000 bus riders, according to its website. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

A Clare Fine Gael Councillor is hopeful of securing a significant expansion of the proposed Ennis town bus route. The service is set to become operational in the next 18 months with the aim of enhancing public connectivity to focal points in the town. Nearby Barefield, currently has just one weekly TFI Local Link route offering transport to Ennis, triggering calls from residents to see the town service extended to the Mid-Clare Village. The National Transport Authority has since committed to carrying out a feasibility study of the ammeneded schedule. Former Mayor of Ennis, Mary Howard who proposed the motion at yesterdays Municipal District meeting believes the extension would be transformational for the town.
