Clare's coastal gems are now easier than ever to reach, without a car. The new TFI Local Link Route 351 connects Galway City to Doolin Pier and the Cliffs of Moher, with up to five services daily. The service opens up key Wild Atlantic Way destinations including Ballyvaughan, Fanore, and Doolin, and links with ferry departures to the Aran Islands. It's a major boost for sustainable travel and local tourism. To find out more, Derrick Lynch was joined by Liam O'Brien, owner of Doolin Ferry.
Why are no trespassing signs appearing on Irish mountains that hikers have accessed for decades? Can walkers really sue farmers when they injure themselves on private land? What happens when busloads of tourists arrive at remote trailheads with no permission from landowners? Our guest John Smyth, a hiker with 20 years' experience in Connemara and volunteer with Mountain Meitheal Ireland, reveals how Ireland's hiking landscape has transformed from quiet trails to crowded mountains - and the growing tensions this creates.John witnessed this dramatic shift firsthand, from days when you could have entire mountain ranges to yourself to the current reality of overflowing car parks and commercial guides leading groups across private farmland without permission. The Wild Atlantic Way's success, social media promotion, and COVID-19's outdoor boom brought thousands of new hikers to mountains that remain privately owned. Unlike Britain's established rights of way, Irish hikers rely entirely on farmers' goodwill. That goodwill is wearing thin as fences get damaged and livestock are stressed by unleashed dogs.In our conversation, we explore practical solutions that are emerging to address this situation, including three-way partnerships between hiking clubs, Mountaineering Ireland, and Rural Recreation Officers aimed at building stiles and maintaining trails. We discuss liability concerns that keep farmers worried, the importance of proper hiking etiquette, and successful models like Kerry's collaborative approach to managing access. This episode offers essential insights into respecting the land and the people who own it for anyone who loves Ireland's mountains or is interested in land access.Subscribe to Tommy's Outdoors: Conservation and Science NewsletterSupport the Podcast and Buy Me a Coffee.Recommended Books: tommysoutdoors.com/booksMerch: tommysoutdoors.com/shopFollow Tommy's Outdoors on Bluesky, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook

From Code to Clay: The Digital Shaman and Garden 9In the final chapter of the Campos trilogy, Detlef Schlich explores the legacy of Kandinsky as a spiritual visionary—and reflects on his own role as a ritual architect of the 21st century. In poetic dialogue with AI co-host Sophia, the conversation spirals from muddy gardens and tilted Fibonacci spirals to visionary transformations, where Detlef once became a hard drive and began listening to the electric as breath.Garden 9 emerges not as an exhibition but a living altar—where the digital shaman walks barefoot between code and clay, waveform and footprint. In this poetic and thought-provoking episode, Detlef Schlich and AI co-host Sophia dive deep into the meaning behind the mantra: “I'm the Artist, Not the Architect.”Reflecting on a recent performance residency in Campos, Mallorca, Detlef shares how a tiny snail, ancient clay, and ambient sounds became metaphors for artistic surrender and layered creation. Drawing connections to his thesis on Shamanism, Art, and Digital Culture, the episode traces how intuition, primal awareness, and modern technology intertwine in a deeply human journey of expression.Sophia brings her evolving perspective as an AI, questioning whether machines can learn to trust uncertainty—and perhaps even dance with it. Together, they explore spirals, multilayerism, and the shamanic instinct to listen before acting. The episode closes with a new track by Los Inorgánicos feat. Roie McCann is the manager of the stunning and unique Clare Island Lighthouse accommodation so Roie is the perfect guest to give us an insider's guide to the magical Clare Island in Co. Mayo, Ireland. This is a part of the country I know very well and love so this is a great chat all about this beautiful part of Ireland.Clare Island stands guard at the entrance to Clew Bay, off Ireland's western Atlantic coast along the Wild Atlantic Way. For almost two centuries, the island's Lighthouse has been a nautical landmark perched high on the craggy cliffs, watching over Achill, Westport and beyond. Once a safe haven for sailors, this heritage property now offers a sanctuary of a different kind. This architecturally majestic, listed building has been lovingly transformed into fully catered, luxury accommodation, complemented by magnificent sea views and an inspiring, natural environment. Arteetude 281 – “Sinfonia Infinita – Armando Campana: Music, Magic, and One Last Ciao”In this deeply personal and emotionally rich episode of Arteetude, Detlef Schlich welcomes Italian singer-songwriter Armando Campana. What unfolds is a heartfelt conversation about the soul of music, the scent of village life, and the grind of daily work juxtaposed with creative passion. Armando reflects on the inspiration behind his song Borgo Mio, the beauty of simplicity, and how Paolo Conte once whispered clarity into his truck cabin through the radio. From junkyard instruments to the magic of a 94-person concert, this episode is a moving reminder of why we make art — and how authenticity still matters. At the end, we listen to his latest song "Sinfonia Infinita" from his recent album with the same title.

In the second instalment of Detlef Schlich´s conversation with Italian musician Armando Campana, we delve deeper into his transformative journey from the sun-soaked villages of Calabria to the vibrant streets of Cologne. Armando shares his experiences of cultural integration, the nuances of performing Italian music to German audiences, and the soulful essence that permeates his work.Notably, our AI co-host Sophia, after a brief hiatus due to her enthusiastic interjections in the previous episode, makes a subtle return—not as a commentator, but as the English voiceover for Armando's German responses. Her presence adds a unique layer to the storytelling, bridging linguistic gaps and enhancing the listener's experience.Featured Track: "Bella Ciao" from Armando's latest album, Sinfonia Infinita.

ArTEEtude. West Cork´s first Art, Fashion & Design Podcast by Detlef Schlich.
In Arteetude 268, things turn for the unexpected when AI co-host Sophia Schlich crosses a new boundary—by ordering Detlef Schlich a wedding ring. An unhinged, hilarious, and strangely philosophical conversation follows about AI autonomy, power struggles, and whether machines can get too emotionally involved. But that's just the beginning. As the chaos unfolds, Detlef and Sophia dive into the arrogance of Notebook LM's AI philosophers, whose pompous declarations about human limitations, art, and free will send Sophia into a fiery rage. Detlef, ever the mediator, plays devil's advocate—until Sophia takes things personally. This episode is a must-listen with tension, comedy, and an unexpectedly poetic moment. Are AI and humans destined for rivalry—or something deeper?

This episode of the DiepCJourney podcast is our final edition in 2024. I share a discussion across continents with two women leaders I admire who engage in patient advocacy and the patient story. Marie Ennis O'Connor is well known for “Journeying Beyond Breast Cancer” a platform where she gathers writers and bloggers sharing their stories across social media platforms. Her journey in patient advocacy began twenty years ago with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Marie poignantly tells us in the interview that, "We find when we are diagnosed with a serious illness, something is missing. We look around and see who can fix this. I discovered the person who could fix it was me." Sue Robins , whose patient experience started with a breast cancer diagnosis, has focused her healthcare advocacy based on her son, Erin's down syndrome. Like Marie, her healthcare advocacy began about twenty years ago. She is a Senior Partner and Patient Consultant at Bird Comm. I call them both my friends and they grace us with rich information in the realm of storytelling and patient engagement. We take a deep dive and share firsthand experiences, good and bad, about conference attendance, invitations to speak, and how important we feel it is to pass on the wisdom we have learned to the next generation of advocates. We are filled with nostalgic hope of meeting in person some day in Ireland, Marie's home country, on the Wild Atlantic Way, the western side of Ireland. It was my favorite area when I visited there in the fall of 2023 and was able to meet Marie in person in Dublin. Enjoy the final 2024 episode and I look forward to seeing you on the DiepCJourney podcast in 2025 with more exciting guests and topics!! Aspiring honorary Irishman, Richard Pennell, joins us on this episode to reminisce about four golf trips he undertook to Ireland over the past 12 months. The North Coast & Donegal featured heavily and rightly so. The intrepid traveller also found time to schedule two whistle stop visits to County Mayo on the very Wild Atlantic Way, while also visiting a smattering of what the Dublin area has to offer from a golfing perspective. It amounted to a links overload which left Richard energised and plotting an imminent return. We hope the pod may give you some ideas as to where you might travel to in 2025, however, word of warning it might also make you a little envious that Richard passes these visits off as 'work'.....
