Gearing up for a Super Week with the Big Game coming this Sunday and everything else that's happening in sports, I've got you covered as Episode #237 packs a big punch. On deck: (4:33) I kick off the podcast with a sincere apology for some sloppy 'play' last week as I own up to a few mistakes that took place in Episode #236. (7:37) With the Super Bowl just six days away, you know what's coming? The Sports Dead Zone #1 is on the horizon. I'll share some thoughts about that and enjoying this upcoming week ahead as we lead into Super Bowl LVI. (11:41) All of the storylines, key matchups, the point spread, over/under number, the Halftime show, even the commercials are full game during this segment as I get into everything about this Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals, which'll include my prediction of who'll win. I'll also get into the following: the 2022 Hall of Fame Finalists, the retirement of Tom Brady (Is he the GOAT? Is he the greatest athlete of all time?), Brian Flores's lawsuit vs. the NFL, the latest head coaching vacancies, the Rooney Rule and the new name for the Washington Football Team. (56:32) The NBA trade deadline is upon us. There have been a couple of moves in the past week (in particular Cleveland acquiring Caris LaVert) but the rumblings throughout the league have centered in Brooklyn and Philadelphia as both James Harden and Ben Simmons may be shipped between now and Thursday. It's quite possible they may be traded for each other! Is there potential for a deal between the two teams? Is there a fit for each player in their possible new destination? I'll have the low down of the pros and cons of each player if a trade is made between the Sixers and Nets. Also, why the Nets may not trade Harden by the deadline? And is it time to push the panic button if you're Steve Nash & co.? (1:10:33) The NHL looks to get back on track to make up games that were lost in the first half due to COVID. I'll have a synopsis of some surprises (i.e. Rangers & Kings) and disappointments (i.e. Oilers & Islanders) and look ahead to the second half as we're past the All Star Break heading into the deeper part of the schedule. To wrap up, the Winter Classic in 2023 will be hosted in a familiar place. Hint: it'll be in a baseball stadium in the Northeast. (1:20:27) Armageddon has come in MLB as the owners and players will be in a complete royal rumble to hammer out a deal as spring training isn't too far away. Is it too early to say that the season is in jeopardy? Baseball is playing with fire at the moment as they avoid being obliterated off of the sports map. I'll explain why. (1:30:40) I'll have a quick update of the college basketball scene as Auburn is still #1 in the country. (1:31:53) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Well the NBA might have just had one involving the James Harden mega trade, we discuss the story of Caris LaVert and his medical discovery after getting traded. On this episode of Chasing The Ring, presented by Lammons Fine Jewelry, Neal McCready and Carson McCready discuss all things NBA, leading, of course, with reaction to the four-team trade that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, Caris LaVert to the Indiana Pacers and Victor Oladipo to the Houston Rockets. In this episode we have JR make a special guest appearance to get in on the fun and discuss the big trade that sent James Harden to the Nets, Caris LaVert to the Pacers, and Victor Oladipo to the Rockets along with 4 1st round picks and 4 1st round swaps. Discuss which 2 cities we would like to see for the potential NBA expansion and what could a potential Draymond Green trade to the Blazers look like after Dame has campaigned to get Green to the Blazers.
Dev and I looked at the shocking news of the James Harden trade to the Brooklyn Nets, Victor Oladipo traded to the Houston Rockets, Caris LaVert traded to the Indiana Pacers, and Jarrett Allen was traded to the Cleveland Cavs. A slew of 1st draft picks and draft swaps also went to the Rockets- the farm went to the Rockets from the Nets - a clear heist. What is up with Kyrie? Who comes out the Eastern Conference? And the NFL picks brought to you by Scriberr News and Anchor Media. Let's get it and Let's go!
Wednesday morning, we thought we'd hit two of the bigger stories of the NBA this week with guest, Jared Weiss of The Athletic. First, his great feature this week on how COVID-19 has hit the NBA hard, forcing cancellations and changes in the league's virus protocols. Are they giving enough attention to the possibilities of on-court transmission between players? And while we had him, we figured we'd talk a little Kyrie Irving, currently on what is being described as personal leave with the Nets. Weiss, after all, covered Irving in Boston Then... James Harden was shipped from Houston to Brooklyn. So change of plans! We break down the trade, asking all the important questions: -What was your initial reaction when the news dropped? -Can Brooklyn integrate three gigantic talents who are also three potentially challenging personalities? What about playing style? Can Harden change his game enough to fit in alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie? -Is Kyrie coming back anytime soon? Does the trade make it more likely or less that he'll get back quickly? Were the Nets hedging against him perhaps not coming back at all? -How valuable could those draft picks be for Houston? Potentially, very. And even if things go well for Brooklyn, Weiss says, some of those draft assets near the end of the deal (2024-27) could be very valuable. Finally, we get back to focus on his excellent COVID breakdown. The league has already cancelled eight games this week. Where did this all start? Is there anything the league can really do to stop it, short of stopping the games? (Which, it should be noted, wouldn't necessarily prevent the virus from spreading among players.)
James Harden was traded to the Nets today in part of a 4-team mega deal! The deal sends Caris Lavert to Indiana, Victor Oladipo to the Rockets, Jarrett Allen to the Cavs, and many more. What this move means for each franchise this season and moving forward is a major topic this week. The White Sox land Liam Hendriks in a record breaking deal for a relief pitcher. NFL Wild Card round is in the books and there were many upsets! Brady v. Brees is going to be a must watch game! We give our predictions for the loaded divisional round.
In this episode, we go over what's next for the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. We go over this past season with Caris LaVert and Jarrett Allen standing out. Also, we talk about the new coaching changes with the addition of Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire, and if Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving can take the Brooklyn Nets to the NBA Finals. Mark Medina from USA Today joins us to discuss why the Lakers possibly playing the Blazers in the 1st round might not be such a bad thing.

The Nets were one of the big winner this offseason using two maximum contract slots to lure Kyrie Irving and an injured Kevin Durant to Brooklyn. They have been a darling of the league the last few seasons punching, at times, above their weight with a combination of a solid culture and ascending players such as Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LaVert. Now that they are talented as, basically, any team in the league will they be able to put it all together in year one and be a real contender? The Pelicans won the Zion lottery (literally), traded a no doubt top 10 player in the league and added veterans such as JJ Redick and Derrick Favors. Will they have a singular objecting on the season (win as many games as possible?) Or will there also be a developmental objective that at times takes a higher priority? All of this and more.@LawtonWillis@willis_glen Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
