Listen Now to 103 Future Now Show When creating our show, our guests are usually in their home environments, connected to us via Zoom or Facetime. But this week our mountaintop ‘fortress of solitude’ was visited by not one but three live guests in our studio at the same time! First up was a brief but wonderful check in by the Passionate Living TV folks, Catherine Miller and Rifat Chowdhury visiting from Buffalo, NY. They were here in California for a film festival and recording of future stories for their award-winning series on passionate lifestyles.  And author Annelise Schinzinger made it up the hill to chat with us about her new book documenting her pioneering experiences in South America with Ayahuasca, a psychoactive brew used by Amazonian tribes for spiritual and healing purposes. Annelise’s experiences go back to the 1970’s, way before Ayahuasca was known  in North America.  I was particularly fascinated by her understanding of “burracheira,” the field of consciousness created by those sharing an Ayahuasca experience. It is also worth noting that she was the Portugese translater for scientist Dennis McKenna in his field research while in Brazil. She takes us on a most fascinating and insightful journey into some of the deeper mysteries of life and death. Enjoy!

onight, we discuss a shocking true crime case with Sheriff Paula May from her new book called 'First Degree Rage'.   "There was no brown in his eyes at all. They were just two black buttons. I looked in his eyes. All I saw was solid black against the whites. It wasn't natural. It was… creepy, unnerving, demonic." - Detective Paula May Terrifying things are happening to Kay Weden, a forty-something single mom and high school teacher in Salisbury, North Carolina. Despite having no known enemies, Kay's home, car, and peace of mind are under attack throughout 1993. Most chilling of all are the senseless attacks on her only son and the shot fired in the night through a wall of her house, which narrowly misses his head as he sleeps.  Kay's new love interest is the charming Viktor Gunnarsson. He's a handsome Swede who left his home country to seek political asylum in the U.S. after being charged with the 1986 assassination of Sweden's Prime Minister Palme. Viktor was briefly held in custody but subsequently released due to a lack of evidence.  The romantic connection between Kay and Viktor is immediate and intense until Viktor disappears without warning, leaving Kay baffled and sad. Kay leans on her loving, elderly mother, Catherine Miller, for solace until Catherine is brutally murdered inside her home by an unknown intruder.  With nowhere else to turn, Kay reconnects with her ex-fiancé L.C. Underwood, a seasoned police officer, particularly adept at criminal investigations. L.C. assures Kay he will get to the bottom of the incessant and tormenting occurrences. When Viktor's nude body is found two hours away in the snowy Appalachian Mountains, local Sheriff's Detective Paula May is assigned to investigate his murder. What follows is an intense, hair-raising investigation that will shock you from the bitterly cold beginning to the unthinkable end.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio]

Kay was just your typical single mother who was trying to find companionship, love and perhaps a good role model for her son, Jason. In December of 1993, she thought she may have found just that with Victor Gunnarsson. Right when Kay thought the relationship was moving forward though, Victor disappeared. She didn't have much time to worry about Victor's disappearance because just six days later, Kay's mother, Catherine Miller, was murdered. With little to no evidence at the scene, detectives pressed Kay for any information that could help. It turned out she and Jason had been receiving threatening letters and calls, but they had no proof it was connected to Catherine's murder. When Victor's body was found in January of 1994, all signs began pointing at Kay's ex fiance, LC Underwood. Tune in as Savannah unknowingly opens the episode perfectly with the perils of dating (especially with a large age gap). Elysia then gives her emotional whiplash in this unbelievable but true story about how one bad relationship can ruin so many lives. Don't forget to leave us the weekly emoji for your Sunday shoutout! When Catherine Miller became a mum to twins, she decided her hands weren't full enough so wrote a novel with every spare moment she managed to find. By the time the twins were two, Catherine had a two-book deal with Carina UK. There is a possibility she has aged remarkably in that time. Her debut novel, Waiting For You, came out in March 2016.Catherine was a NHS physiotherapist, but for health reasons (Uveitis and Sarcoidosis) she retired early from this career. As she loved her physiotherapy job, she decided if she couldn't do that she would pursue her writing dream. It took a few years and a couple of babies, but in 2015 she won the Katie Fforde bursary, was a finalist in the London Book Fair Write Stuff Competition and highly commended in Woman magazine's writing competition. Soon afterwards she signed with Carina. Soon after that, she collapsed in a heap and was eventually revived by chocolate.Since then she's become an internationally bestselling novelist and hasn't found a week that didn't require revival by chocolate. She is one eighth of The Romaniacs – a group of writing friends who've supported each other since meeting through The Romantic Novelists' Association's New Writers' Scheme. Her latest novel is THE DAY I LOST HER:As I stare at the girl, I feel my heart pound inside my chest. There she is, my daughter, right in front of me after all this time. I have to reach her, to hold her, before I lose her all over again…I have experienced what no mother should: I have lost my child. Many years ago, after my divorce, my daughter moved in with her father, and then went missing…For years, I searched everywhere for my darling girl, but she had vanished without a trace. But even on my darkest days, when my heart felt truly broken, I kept a hope alive inside – a hope that my little girl would, one day, find her way back to me.And now, standing in front of me, so close I could touch her, is a young woman who looks just like my beloved Tilly. I've been reminded of her so many times over the years, but this is different. The curve of her face, the sound of her voice…But just as my heart leaps with unimaginable joy, she disappears into the crowd and I lose sight of her. I can't believe she has gone before I had the chance to reach her.As I desperately scan the faces around me, my heart pounding in my chest, I realise I am certain that she was my little girl, back after all these years. But why would she seek me out now, just to vanish all over again? And how can I find her? Because no matter how much time has passed, she will always be my little girl… And I will do whatever it takes to hold her in my arms once more.An absolutely unputdownable and gripping story about one mother's quest to find her little girl. Fans of Jojo Moyes, Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain will be hooked on this emotional book until the very final page.BUY IT HERE: https://amzn.to/45qfFxyHey! We have spent 3 years using StreamYard. With the release of AI (Artificial Intelligence) applications such as ChatGPT, Dall-E-2, and Runway Gen-2, artificial intelligence has ultimately become mainstream. Today, internet access is virtually all it takes to create AI-generated images, text, and video in the blink of an eye. Even though first effects are already clearly noticeable: The short and medium-term consequences of this rapid development are not yet foreseeable even for experts. In the new episode of the Wuppertal Institute's podcast Zukunftswissen.fm, Catherine Miller, Director of the European AI & Society Fund, and Dr. Holger Berg, Vice-Director of the Circular Economy Research Division and Co-Head of the Digital Transformation Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute, talk about the social and ecological impact of AI: On the one hand, they discuss the resource requirements of AI applications – from the use of rare earths for hardware manufacturing to the energy needed for the operation of AI models to the human labor required for system development. Secondly, Berg and Miller talk about the social aspects of AI, such as the psychologically stressful labor performed by workers in the Global South who train AI models, or the use of AI in determining prison sentences and in credit allocation processes. Miller and Berg raise the question of the extent to which regulation of AI is needed – and whether politics can keep up with the rapid development of AI applications. How AI can help to combat climate change and which conflicts of interest emerge in this context, are other topics discussed in the podcast episode. It's going to be exciting! True Murder: The Most Shocking Killers

From the author of FIRST DEGREE RAGE: The True Story of ‘The Assassin,' An Obsession, and Murder comes the ongoing and chilling true crime saga of L. C. Underwood, the obsessively jealous police officer from North Carolina. Underwood shocked an entire city with his reign of terror in the lives of his ex-fiancé Kay Weden, a woman he refused to let go, her son Jason whom he despised, and her mother Catherine Miller who got in his way. In FIRST DEGREE RAGE, Underwood arrogantly evaded justice for his heinous crimes until Detective Paula May and her investigative team uncovered who he really was. Because of their efforts, he was convicted for First Degree Kidnapping and Murder of Viktor Gunnarsson, Kay's new boyfriend. But was Underwood also responsible for the brutal murder of Catherine Miller that occurred mere days after Gunnarsson's demise?Sentenced to life in prison plus forty years, Underwood has no intention of staying in prison and vows not to stop until he exacts revenge on those he blames for his current predicament. His thirst for revenge will not be quenched until more blood is shed. Underwood rages on, plotting his next move, enlisting others to perform the evil deeds he imagines. Wreaking havoc in the lives of Kay, Jason, Detective May, and others, he sends them all on an emotional roller coaster ride that never seems to end. Will they ever find peace? Will Catherine Miller's murderer ever be brought to justice? Will Underwood's reign of terror ever be stopped? RAGING ON-Paula May

What follows is an intense, hair-raising investigation that will shock you from the bitterly cold beginning to the unthinkable end. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
