Listen Now to 103 Future Now Show When creating our show, our guests are usually in their home environments, connected to us via Zoom or Facetime. But this week our mountaintop ‘fortress of solitude’ was visited by not one but three live guests in our studio at the same time! First up was a brief but wonderful check in by the Passionate Living TV folks, Catherine Miller and Rifat Chowdhury visiting from Buffalo, NY. They were here in California for a film festival and recording of future stories for their award-winning series on passionate lifestyles. And author Annelise Schinzinger made it up the hill to chat with us about her new book documenting her pioneering experiences in South America with Ayahuasca, a psychoactive brew used by Amazonian tribes for spiritual and healing purposes. Annelise’s experiences go back to the 1970’s, way before Ayahuasca was known in North America. I was particularly fascinated by her understanding of “burracheira,” the field of consciousness created by those sharing an Ayahuasca experience. It is also worth noting that she was the Portugese translater for scientist Dennis McKenna in his field research while in Brazil. She takes us on a most fascinating and insightful journey into some of the deeper mysteries of life and death. Enjoy!

Religions emphasize, in different measure at different times and for different reasons, belief/theology and practice/ritual/tradition. Judaism, in general, is a religion that focuses more on practice than belief. And it famously has multiple ways to remain “tied in” to the ethnoreligious tribe: To be Jewish is to do Jewish religion, to be Jewish is to be a part of the tribal nation of Israel (as differentiated from the secular state today), and to be Jewish is to be a part of the tribe of Jewish people. Religion. Nation. Tribe. Traditionally, you are a Jew whether you believe in God or not, but other religions aren't so forgiving on the point. Can you be a Christian without believing Christ is Lord? Can you be a Muslim if you don't believe Muhammad was a prophet? But you can deny God and remain in the Jewish people. All that to say, when I was studying for conversion more than 20 years ago, one of my favorite books was not about the practice of Judaism, but the range of belief systems available to those under the umbrella of Judaism: Finding God by Rabbi Rifat Sonsino. When a student of mine said she was questioning the existence of the Jewish God, I offered her parents a few books to read with her, and one of them was this one. I was happy to see Rabbi Sonsino had updated the book as well as written others. When I reached out to him, and this was me really reaching for the stands, I was thrilled to hear he'd talk to me about theology and his books. This podcast episode is the result. If you're interested in Jewish theology and thinking about God in general, our conversation will be interesting and enlightening. If you, like Rabbi Sonsino, find the rational/scientific/modern world is quite impressive, and your ideas about God are flavored or curtailed by that, Rabbi Sonsino is your jam. In the ideal world, you'd want to read more after hearing this. Great! Start with Rabbi Sonsino himself. His blog is free and updated at least monthly. Want to dig into books covering the wide range of Jewish theology in Rabbi Sonsino's bibliography? Consider: Finding God: Selected Responses (Behrman House); or The Many Faces of God (Behrman House), which relies on wonderfully chosen direct excerpts from modern thinkers. Interested in Rabbi Sonsino's own exploration of theology and the God-wrestling he describes in this episode? Try: 6 Jewish Spiritual Paths: A Rationalist Looks at Spirituality (Jewish Lights); And God Spoke These Words: The Ten Commandments and Contemporary Ethics (Behrman House), a perfect one for Christians and Jews who draw from these teachings; or, last but not least, his most recent book, A God We Can Believe In, co-written with Rabbi Richard Agler. This comes with a lengthy, free book-club-like set of discussion questions to put the book's content to work for you in rolling the idea of God around in your own head. Whether you believe in God, believe in something god-like, or think the idea has outlived its usefulness, well, hear what Rabbi Sonsino has to say first ...

The sons of Ra'mah were Sh'va and D'dan.8 Kush fathered Nimrod, who was the first powerful ruler on earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before Adonai — this is why people say, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before Adonai.” 10 His kingdom began with Bavel, Erekh, Akkad and Kalneh, in the land of Shin'ar. 11 Ashur went out from that land and built Ninveh, the city Rechovot, Kelach, 12 and Resen between Ninveh and Kelach — that one is the great city.13 Mitzrayim fathered the Ludim, the 'Anamim, the L'havim, the Naftuchim, 14 the Patrusim, the Kasluchim (from whom came the P'lishtim) and the Kaftorim.15 Kena'an fathered Tzidon his firstborn, Het, 16 the Y'vusi, the Emori, the Girgashi, 17 the Hivi, the 'Arki, the Sini, 18 the Arvadi, the Tz'mari and the Hamati. Afterwards, the families of the Kena'ani were dispersed. 19 The border of the Kena'ani was from Tzidon, as you go toward G'rar, to 'Azah; as you go toward S'dom, 'Amora, Admah and Tzvoyim, to Lesha.20 These were the descendants of Ham, according to their families and languages, in their lands and in their nations.Lineage of Shem21 Children were also born to Shem, ancestor of all the descendants of 'Ever and older brother of Yefet. 22 The sons of Shem were 'Elam, Ashur, Arpakhshad, Lud and Aram. 23 The sons of Aram were 'Utz, Hul, Geter and Mash. 24 Arpakhshad fathered Shelach, and Shelach fathered 'Ever. 25 To 'Ever were born two sons. One was given the name Peleg [division], because during his lifetime the earth was divided. His brother's name was Yoktan. 26 Yoktan fathered Almodad, Shelef, Hatzar-Mavet, Yerach, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28 'Oval, Avima'el, Sheva, 29 Ofir, Havilah and Yovav — all these were the sons of Yoktan. 30 Their territory stretched from Mesha, as you go toward S'far, to the mountain in the east.31 These were the descendants of Shem, according to their families and languages, in their lands and in their nations.32 These were the families of the sons of Noach, according to their generations, in their nations. From these the nations of the earth were divided up after the flood.
Producer of the documentary The Truth: Lost at Sea, and survivor of the Freedom Flotilla massacre, Rifat Odeh, takes us through his experience on the boat that attempted to break the siege and deliver much needed humanitarian aid to Gaza. We begin by asking the question why a humanitarian mission was necessary, before developing into the dark scenes that the Israeli military unfolded on the aid workers, as well as diving into the propaganda machine that attempted to save Israel's image. This comes during a crucial time where a new flotilla looks to leave for the same mission to Gaza in 2024.

Soy tu hermano y amigo Eduardo Rodríguez. Que el Señor Jesús escuche tu oración y te conceda ver a tu descendencia servir al Señor.#Genesis#Genesis10 #genealogias#IglesiaElReino #KingdomChurch #IPUH#HogaresDePacto #HogaresDePactoPodcast #PastorCarlos #CarlosRodriguez #EduardoRodriguez===========================================Genesis 10: Let's read a few verses from that chapter but remember to read it all the way through.Genesis 10:1-12 NLT:This is the account of the families of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the three sons of Noah. Many children were born to them after the great flood. The descendants of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. The descendants of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim. Their descendants became the seafaring peoples that spread out to various lands, each identified by its own language, clan, and national identity. The descendants of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth. Since he was the greatest hunter in the world, his name became proverbial. People would say, “This man is like Nimrod, the greatest hunter in the world.” He built his kingdom in the land of Babylonia, with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh. From there he expanded his territory to Assyria, building the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah, and Resen (the great city located between Nineveh and Calah). This chapter is one that many Bible readers prefer to skip over and not read. Genealogies are sometimes tedious, especially since many don't see the point in reading them. But if you read carefully, you will discover important or at least curious details to understand how peoples and nations were born or understand how certain important characters in the Bible are connected.Genealogy also teaches us the importance of good actions and how they have a positive impact on our children.People who walked with God, usually, their children followed in their footsteps and formed families, towns and nations blessed by God. Others were filled with pride and haughtiness and their descendants were peoples who became corrupt and practiced all kinds of evil. For example, here we see Babel where they challenged God's sovereignty by wanting to do their own thing. We also see Sodom in this list. Later we will see how they were destroyed by their immense wickedness. Interestingly, we see the identity of Japheth's sons who were known as "those who dwelt on the coastlands."This makes us reflect on the influence we have on our family. When you build your household, don't forget that they will most likely build their families similar to what we emulate. They will adopt our customs, habits, beliefs, traditions, etc. And on these actions they will transmit them to their children. I hope you have been able to learn something today in the midst of so many names of families, clans and nations. Let's scrutinize: Let's read Deuteronomy 6:6-7: “And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.”Then, use the technique called PARAPHRASE IT, and replicate in your own words the meaning of the biblical text. I am your brother and friend Eduardo Rodríguez. May the Lord Jesus hear your prayer and grant you to see your offspring serve the Lord.#Genesis #Genesis10#KingdomChurch #HomesOfCovenant#HogaresDePacto #HogaresDePactoPodcast #PastorCarlos #CarlosRodriguez

Vibe tribe, I know this isn't what we normally do here, but this topic is heavy on my heart. I know a lot if you are spiritually bypassing politics and staying away from the hard shit, but we need to start doing research and talking about these things.Today I brought on my close friend Rifat, or Reef, to give us a palestinian viewpoint of the war in Israel. I play devil's advocate and ask questions so that you can be at level zero and get a gist of what conversations we should be having and how to move forward. As always, think freely + love fully. The COVID-19 pandemic has tremendous implications for the health, economy and social cohesion of countries. Governments across the world will have to face these challenges for years to come. From weakened economies and fractured health systems to high unemployment levels, crumbling social programs and increased social unrest. This pandemic has shown us clearly that health is a core determinant of social and economic development; thus, we need to ensure health systems are equipped to address the current and future challenges, as well as the needs of the population. In this session, experts will discuss the challenges COVID-19 presents for the construction of sustainable health systems and what the role of governments should be as we transition to a “new normal.”Dr. Rifat Atun, Director of Global Health Systems Cluster at Harvard University, talks in this interview about the challenges that Health Systems in emerging countries are facing now, and how this crisis can lend opportunities.
