Hear about how spiritual leader and author David Gibbons felt that he wrote his memoir as a way to process his life and his experience, calling the book The Shape of My Eyes. In an honest conversation, Dr. Gee and David break down what “model minority” means for Asian Americans and African Americans. They consider how this concept also worked toward putting the two racial communities in opposition to one another by weaponizing the term. They continue Dr. Gee's awareness around how the unity between Asian American and Black communities can be perpetuated. Also, hear how David tries to get Dr. Gee to go white water rafting. The global captive insurance marketplace and how it is developing was the focus of our latest Artemis Live video interview and we learned that data is critical to help in effective captive formation.  Our latest Artemis Live video interview is with David Gibbons of PwC, a Partner and the Captive Insurance Leader at PwC Bermuda.  David works with some of the largest captive accounts in the world and delivers captive insurance solutions throughout the captive lifecycle.  In this interview we discussed some current captive insurance market conditions and trends David is seeing, both in Bermuda and globally.  Asking David how he views the current captive insurance market, he said, "If you gave me one word, I would say active. If you gave me two words, I'd say very active."  "I think that activity is on really two fronts. One is you're seeing new formations and you're seeing the speed from interest to formation move, from potentially one-to-three years, to a few months once a feasibility study is done," he explained.  "I think the other area of activity we're seeing is existing captives re-looking at the business they write, not only the lines, but the layers and as they negotiate pricing with reinsurers looking to see what portions of the business they may take that they have traditionally not taken."  On the Bermuda captive insurance market, Gibbons noted that it remains a leader, thanks to its strong and responsive regulator and regulatory environment, its adjacency to global reinsurance capital, and the abundance of local expertise and service providers.  He said the captive market remains niche, although it is growing and that it's vital to have talent on hand that understands what it means to be at the cutting edge of where the captive insurance industry has been and where it's going, while access to data is seen as a critical feature for effective captive insurer formation. Watch the full video interview for more insights from PwC Bermuda's David Gibbons.

A lot of us feel like our lives have shipwrecked. Paul understood this feeling - for real. There's good news: what's bad for our plans might be good for God's mission. Notes 1. Don't panic. Paul literally shook-off the snake. What do you need to shake-off? "Flexibility is a superpower" (Carey Neiuwhoff). “Adaptability the most important trait for churches in the 21st century to learn” (David Gibbons). 2. Keep showing kindness. It's easy to become bitter; self-absorbed, apathetic… But Christians are full of kindness. 3. Keep preaching the full Gospel. Paul preaches the same message that keeps making people mad: “God's salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen” (Acts 28:28). If there are people whom you despise, whom you don't want to be part of this church, I think I know what Paul's message would be to you. Sometimes what's bad for our plan is good for God's mission. Your shipwrecked plans can be made beautiful when you just follow me. “Unhindered” carried the idea of being released from a rental contract. You are free to go. The bonds are broken. Run free. I pray we can run into 2021 unhindered by our sin, our troubles, our hurt.

Can neuromodulation be used to change the sensory transduction of the ischemic ventricle? To answer this question, Editor-in-Chief Dr. Irving H. Ardell and co-authors found that preemptive spinal cord stimulation can reduce the afferent signal coming from the ischemic ventricle. Was this a result of a change in substrate utilization in the heart or was this “silent ischemia”? Does this spinal cord stimulation work by Ardell and collaborators have the potential to translate to reducing pain for patients with angina?
