The American healthcare system is dealing with more mental health issues than ever before. What is the root of the uprising in anxiety and mood disorders? Why are more young people, children and teenagers, receiving this diagnosis and what can we do as a society to help understand? Today's guest, Susan Swick, MD, MPH is the Executive Director of Ohana, the integrated program for child and adolescent mental and behavioral health and healing at Montage Health, and the Vice President and Chief Mental Health Officer at Montage Health. She began her career at Rikers Island, studying the mental health needs of the incarcerated, which led her to studying younger patients, specifically the field of child psychiatry and how these children can be helped at an earlier age. How much is environmental and how much is the neurology of the brain? There is a rise in mental health issues in children. Childhood, from a brain perspective, ends closer to age 25. Skills like socialization, communication, and bonding are still forming until approximately this age. We develop skills prior to this age which can affect our mental health for the rest of our lives. But, there's good news and treatment is available! It can be corrected using a type of supportive mental health technique using skill-building so children learn to manage anxiety – it's like a type of mental health “tutoring” so they can manage something new and challenging, even if frightening. It is possible to build skills toward stronger health and mental fitness.  Dr. Swick also talks about social media and how children become addicted to being online with a dopamine hit, especially in teenagers. Many compare themselves to others and eating disorders may start here. The reward part of the brain also does not mature until approximately age 26.   Over a distinguished 20-year career as a clinical psychiatrist and educator, Dr. Swick has helped transform how American healthcare systems meet the escalating demand for pediatric and adolescent mental and behavioral healthcare treatment and services. A graduate of Columbia University Medical School, she previously served as Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Newton Wellesley Hospital and as an instructor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.    In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Swick is an advocate for the importance of mental fitness and has developed nationally recognized neuroscience strategies to help young people build and maintain a state of emotional health and positive self-awareness throughout their lives. With that being said lets get into it!https://www.swickmedia.com/podcast.htmlMy name is Jeremy Swick and I'm a historian, curator, archivist, gone rouge.Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, raised in Wisconsin, Jeremy is an experienced Historian, Curator, and Archivist, with a passion for history, education, and social media. He is known on social channels as @TheAverageHistorian. Why? He's just an "average guy" who loves playing rugby, talking history (especially sports history!) and continually learning. He has been determined to chase goals which have led to extraordinary experiences. He has professionally worked at several institutions ranging from a historic photography museum to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. How does social media come into the picture?Let him explain... "Through my time working at various museums, one of the glaring issues I noticed was the lack of social media resources for museums. When there were resources available it was often outsourced to giant agencies that had incredibly large bills at the end of the month! I aimed to fix that. Instead of outsourcing many of my projects. I decided to streamline it by doing many aspects myself. This created a blueprint for SWICKMedia."

It's challenging to be in sales right now, and keeping up isn't enough – it's time to get ahead of the curve. Bringing AEs and BDRs together to learn from each other will make your organization stronger and more cohesive. In today's episode, our host Donald Kelly meets with Katie Swick, the Global Sales Enablement Lead at Stripe, to hear how her team's collaborative approach to learning has revolutionized the way they sell.    A Symbiotic Relationship When AEs help educate BDRs, the BDRs in turn become better at finding quality leads. This makes the AE's job easier in the long run. BDRs learn better prospecting skills AND what makes a good AE through the program. This makes them more effective in their current positions but also prepares them to be great AEs in the future. AEs also report learning a lot from the process and see the value in training BDRs – they volunteer to help out!  Getting Ahead of the Curve BDRs need to understand how to “lose fast” rather than hang on to prospects that aren't going to go anywhere. AEs can educate BDRs on how to identify qualified leads. Technology is moving quickly, and prospecting in particular has changed a lot. BDRs can help AEs upgrade their prospecting skills.  Bridging the Gap Between AEs and BDRs In cases where AEs are too busy to handle all potential accounts, BDRs can jump in and help move smaller clients through the pipeline. AEs also, in some cases, will help BDRs with prospecting to add to the top of their sales funnel.  “The program is really meant to stay at that cutting edge and say, ‘Hey, what's working? What's not? How do we take advantage of that?' Jason Swick was just some guy I met at the Best Horse Practices Summit last fall and we started up a conversation while pulling cockleburrs out of a paint horse's tail behind the scenes. We hit it off immediately and I discovered a pretty unique and interesting guy in the horse world and warrior communities. Behind the scenes serving is where you're always going to find Jason. He's not a fame seeker, but it's amazing just how many friends in high places he has. He just might be another Kevin Baconesque horse guy, as he's just a few degrees of separation from anyone in this business.Jason had a college and pro baseball career as a younger guy. He then got into the Firefighter/EMS/Law Enforcement communities and recently retired after years working as an undercover detective. Jason now owns Day 6 Ranch with his wife where he coaches/mentors those in the warrior community to lead better lives and gives them tools of dealing with the stresses of that profession. He's been a friend of Chris Cox's for years and produces and co-hosts Chris' podcast, Come Ride the Journey. Additionally, Jason has had his own podcast for years, Let Freedom Rein, where he talks about human optimization through horsemanship with his guests. Jason and JR Verzain have more recently begun the podcast, White Horse Remuda, where they talk about the western lifestyle, horses, and walking with Christ.Jason will soon be starting another podcast, Contact and Cover, which is specifically intended for the warrior community. Jason is also a part of the India 68 Foundation, which seeks to help out other non-profits in the veteran and horse worlds come together. The India 68 Foundation recently provided the arena and event help for the last Road to The Horse event. We talk about his life, what it's like to have your cover blown, the worlds of drug and human trafficking, dealing with seeing things that you can't un-see, and how he found horses again as a grown man and their part in his healing/growing into the man he is today. I really enjoy Jason and we tend to cut up a fair bit. This one turned out more serious than I'd have expected. It's a real conversation about some real but unpleasant topics, and I'm sure it will lead to more good conversations as well. You can find Jason at:https://www.day6ranch.com/https://www.facebook.com/India68FoundationHis podcasts are:Let Freedom ReinWhite Horse RemudaContact and Cover

As his Collins Hill teammates finished off the football program's first state championship in 2021, then Collins Hill senior Jayden Faison was in his own fight. Faison was an inspiration during the state title run and he spent the latter stages of that breakthrough season in the hospital battling cancer. He kept fighting through Friday, when he died less than two years after his diagnosis. His legacy at Collins Hill revolves around that fighting spirit, which he showed on the football field and while facing cancer. Collins Hill coach Drew Swick remembered Faison as a hardworking player who didn't say too much, but always had a smile on his face. Swick was part of a group, along with then Collins Hill head coach Lenny Gregory and principal Kerensa Wing, that visited Faison in the hospital in late April 2022 to present him with his Collins Hill High School diploma. At the time, Faison was using a wheelchair, but has been preparing for the moment for two weeks so that he could walk and receive his diploma. That spirit paid off on the football field, where he was an undersized inside linebacker at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds. He made up for the lack of ideal size with speed, hard work in the weight room and intense preparation. While he didn't start on the loaded state championship team's defense, he was on every special teams unit and was regarded for his tackling ability. Swick, who was promoted to head coach after the 2022 season, said the Collins Hill program plans to wear a Number 8 patch in honor of Faison's number this season, as well as make the Number 8 jersey special, one that is given to a top defensive player each season who earns the right to wear it. While things didn't go well for Georgia's men's basketball team in Saturday's loss to Missouri, its fans can take solace in what happened Saturday in Norcross. Bulldog signee Lamariyon Jordan went off for 36 points — 27 in the second half — as fourth-ranked Norcross pulled away from Osborne for a 72-60 victory in the Class AAAAAAA second round. The defending state champion Blue Devils (25-4), unbeaten in February, will host Newton at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Elite Eight, marking the fourth time those two have played the last two seasons. Jordan, who also grabbed 12 rebounds, scored the first seven points of the third quarter to open up a more comfortable lead that grew as big as 18 in the second half. The 6-foot-6 wing scored 16 of his team's 20 third-quarter points and made all four of his 3-pointers in the second half. Samarion Bond and Toby Ojukwu up Jordan in the fourth quarter to keep Osborne from making it a close game. Ojukwu, who had four rebounds and three assists, was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line in the fourth. Bilal Abdur-Rahman scored 11 for the Blue Devils. Up next is a rematch with Newton, a team Norcross beat 73-71 earlier this season on Jordan's game-winning 3-pointer in the Hawks-Naismith Classic. The two teams played twice last season, including Norcross' victory in the state semifinals. Gwinnett County has seen a wave of big construction projects in recent years. Lawrenceville got a new arts center and college corridor while the Gas South Convention Center underwent a major expansion; Duluth got a new entertainment district; Sugar Hill built a downtown district; Buford Highway in Suwanee has been transformed with new housing; and the Exchange at Gwinnett has risen out of the ground near Buford. But, the construction isn't finished. Not by a long shot. A new wave of big construction projects, including new development and some redevelopment projects, is coming along across Gwinnett County. From Snellville and Lilburn, to Dacula and out to Peachtree Corners, and even in Lawrenceville, there are major projects that are either already under construction or will be coming up in the next few years. The new wave of big projects offer a range of focuses. Northside Hospital is turning its Gwinnett campus in Lawrenceville into what is expected to eventually be the biggest campus in the hospital system with a new 15-story patient tower. That tower, by the way, will also be one of the tallest building in Gwinnett County when it's done — although the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta hotel will retain its title as the county's tallest building. Northside is also working on a medical office park on Buford Drive, across the street from the Exchange at Gwinnett, in the Mall of Georgia area. For more information on all the projects in Gwinnett, head over to Gwinnett Daily Post dot com. For the second time in four years, Primerica officials have donated a vehicle to the American Red Cross to help with blood collections across the metro Atlanta area. Primerica and its philanthropic arm, the Primerica Foundation, presented a Ford Transit Connect van to Red Cross officials while also hosting a blood drive on Wednesday. It is the latest action in a longstanding relationship between Primerica and the Red Cross that stretches back to 2011 and has seen more than $400,000 in disaster relief donations and medical equipment given to the Red Cross. Primerica employees have also donated more than 3,000 pints of blood during blood drives held over the last 20 years. Primerica previously donated a Dodge RAM Promaster City Van to the Red Cross in 2019. The vehicle donated this week is expected to help the Red Cross grow its blood supply, coming at a time when the organization is trying to increase its supply across all of Georgia. The new vehicle will be used to transport blood from Red Cross processing, testing and storage centers to patients in hospitals and cancer treatment centers. Primerica officials said the vehicle can also be used for emergency deliveries of rare blood and urgent blood to hospitals that are experiencing shortages. Gwinnett County Public Schools appointed two elementary school principals and a new district-wide instructional technology and innovation chief on Thursday night. The board voted to appoint Ashley Coughlin as the new principal at Berkley Lake Elementary School and Stacey Pickett as the new principal at White Oak Elementary School. Board members also voted to appoint Lisa Watkins as the new executive director of instructional technology and innovation. Coughlin has worked for GCPS since 2007, when she joined the district as a teacher at Suwanee Elementary School.  She moved from Suwanee Elementary to Roberts Elementary School in 2010, where she also served as a teacher. She then became the local school technology coordinator at Harris Elementary School in 2012 and then became an assistant principal a that school in 2014. Pickett has worked in education since 1998, when she became a teacher in DeKalb County Schools. She joined GCPS in 1999 as a Title I teacher at Stripling Elementary School and then moved to Cooper Elementary School as a teacher in 2003. She became the assistant principal at Gwin Oaks Elementary School in 2004 and has been an assistant principal at White Oak Elementary School since 2009. Watkins has worked in education for more than 30 years, with much of that time spent in GCPS. She joined the district in 1991 as a language arts teacher at the Gwinnett Online Campus and stayed in that position until 1999, when she became an instructional lead teacher at the online campus. In addition to evaluation and treatment programs that are evidence-based and family-focused. Ohana programs will also emphasize the cultivation of mental health at the individual, family and community level. This Center is being created with the support of a landmark $100 million gift from a single donor in the hospital's community, reflecting a recognition on both the hospital's and the community's part that the resources available to families seeking care for their children's mental health challenges were sorely lacking. Dr. Swick has a long-standing interest in how adversity affects children and families, and in how well-timed interventions can make a critical difference. Prior to relocating to California in 2018, Dr. Swick served as the Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Newton Wellesley Hospital for five years. While at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, she created a new community health initiative called “The Resilience Project,” partnering with local High Schools to promote the mental health and well-being of youth and their families. She also directed the Parenting At a Challenging Time (PACT) program at Newton-Wellesley, a parent guidance program available to cancer patients who were still raising young children. She was an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she created and ran a course on Parent Guidance for the Child Psychiatry fellows. She attended Medical School at Columbia University, where she also received a Masters in Public Health. Although his high vitality wines share similarities with Californian naturalists, Joe is located in a much more conservative wine region.   He stands apart not only in location but in history, having begun his journey firmly entrenched in the high octane, Parker-approved power wines of the early aughts. His pathway to low-intervention wine was slow and circuitous, imparting on Joe an invaluable sense of context. The conversation begins with a discussion of organics in farming and comes to center on the definition and perils of natural wine before ending up somewhere unexpected!

John Elway was (and is) my favorite player. I have played as the Broncos on Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Bowl Super Bowl, Madden, and 2K Sports. I fondly remember the moments when the Broncos won Super Bowls 32 and 33. Around this time, the Oilers came to Tennessee. I was hooked. I finally had a team just down the road from my hometown of Bon Aqua. Oiler (and later Titans) mania hit this area. Jerseys, hats, footballs, merchandise, and several autographs later, I'm a Titans fan through and through. It's the dedication, the love, and the passion for football that helps me realize that football is family. Each fan base has a story, a history, and a love for their team. That's what I want to talk about each and every podcast. You can follow me https://twitter.com/jeremy_mcfarlin (@jeremy_mcfarlin). Message me if you want to share your reasons why your football team is family.
