The Sculptor and the SaintOne Woman's Sacrifice. One Man's Undoing.Daughter to an ancient Roman senator, Cecilia is forced into a lonely marriage to a loathsome patrician and leaves behind her infatuation for the handsome Sebastian of Milan. With her husband often away on military duty, however, Cecilia seeks refuge through her clandestine meetings with a Christian congregation hiding in the catacombs beneath the Appian Way. When news of Sebastian's torture brings her to his aid and her involvement with Sebastian and the Christians is exposed, Cecilia must face fatal consequences. Thirteen hundred years after her death, Saint Cecilia's body is exhumed from her grave and young artist Stefano Maderno is commissioned by the pope to sculpt her likeness. Seeking a big break in his career, Stefano enthralls himself in his work and the romanticized accounts of Cecilia's virginity and martyrdom. However, the more he immerses himself in carving her form, the more he struggles against his sinful nature to be worthy of his subject's virtue. Stefano's dedication to Cecilia's legacy might just be what breaks him. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this soul-deep conversation on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty is joined by Dr. Lori Joan Swick—author, spiritual scholar, and dream researcher—for an exploration of dreaming as a sacred and mindful practice. Lori shares insights from her book Dreaming—The Sacred Art, revealing how dreamwork can serve as a powerful spiritual discipline and tool for self-awareness, creativity, and healing. This episode delves into the intersection of ancient traditions, modern neuroscience, and personal experience to reframe dreaming not as random mental noise, but as profound inner guidance. About the Guest:Dr. Lori Joan Swick holds a Ph.D. in religion and philosophy and has dedicated her life to elevating women's spiritual voices. She is the bestselling author of The Sculptor and the Saint and Dreaming—The Sacred Art. A passionate advocate of sacred dreamwork, Lori blends academic rigor with intuitive wisdom to help others understand the transformative power of the dream world. She also hosts the video blog How Women Initiated the World's Religions. Key Takeaways: Dreams are not random; they are messages from the subconscious and soul. Mindful dreaming can be developed through intention, lucid awareness, and journaling. Eastern and Indigenous traditions view dreams as extensions of waking life—tools for healing and insight. Lucid dreaming, long explored in Tibetan practices and by Western scientists like Stephen LaBerge, bridges mysticism and neuroscience. Dream recall improves with focused attention and morning reflection. Patterns in dreams often point to emotional truths or guidance. She and her family live in Prineville, Oregon, and have been ministering with the Prineville Church of Christ for the past several years. Before that, they spent 10 years as college ministers at Oregon State University. During those years, as she dealt with the ups and downs of campus ministry, caring for a sick child, and the general chaos of life, Amanda found her passion for prayer. The American healthcare system is dealing with more mental health issues than ever before. What is the root of the uprising in anxiety and mood disorders? Why are more young people, children and teenagers, receiving this diagnosis and what can we do as a society to help understand? Today's guest, Susan Swick, MD, MPH is the Executive Director of Ohana, the integrated program for child and adolescent mental and behavioral health and healing at Montage Health, and the Vice President and Chief Mental Health Officer at Montage Health. She began her career at Rikers Island, studying the mental health needs of the incarcerated, which led her to studying younger patients, specifically the field of child psychiatry and how these children can be helped at an earlier age. How much is environmental and how much is the neurology of the brain? There is a rise in mental health issues in children. Childhood, from a brain perspective, ends closer to age 25. Skills like socialization, communication, and bonding are still forming until approximately this age. We develop skills prior to this age which can affect our mental health for the rest of our lives. But, there's good news and treatment is available! It can be corrected using a type of supportive mental health technique using skill-building so children learn to manage anxiety – it's like a type of mental health “tutoring” so they can manage something new and challenging, even if frightening. It is possible to build skills toward stronger health and mental fitness. Dr. Swick also talks about social media and how children become addicted to being online with a dopamine hit, especially in teenagers. Many compare themselves to others and eating disorders may start here. The reward part of the brain also does not mature until approximately age 26. Over a distinguished 20-year career as a clinical psychiatrist and educator, Dr. Swick has helped transform how American healthcare systems meet the escalating demand for pediatric and adolescent mental and behavioral healthcare treatment and services. A graduate of Columbia University Medical School, she previously served as Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Newton Wellesley Hospital and as an instructor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Swick is an advocate for the importance of mental fitness and has developed nationally recognized neuroscience strategies to help young people build and maintain a state of emotional health and positive self-awareness throughout their lives. Thomas Swick moved to Warsaw at the height of the Cold War. His newest book Falling Into Place is a memoir of his life behind the Iron Curtain, but it's also a writer's coming of age in the heyday of post-Watergate journalism. We spoke about life in the Eastern Bloc, Polish films, and the ten sins of travel writing.

I was very happy to catch up with my Marine Corps' Officer Candidate School bunk mate on this episode of the podcast. Pete is a great guy and he, along with Brian Sullivan, helped me get through OCS. The three of us remain close friends to this day. After receiving his Marine Corps' commission, Pete served as a Marine Corps officer for many years before moving to the DEA for the rest of his professional career. Here is the thing that I have always liked about Swick – in the email he sent to me about scheduling this podcast, he puts this on the bottom of his email signature, and I couldn't love this any more than I do!

Season 5 is all about Leadership or Leadershit. Let's be honest: We've all encountered some great leaders and some absolutely terrible ones the leadershit. Sadly, our experience has been that there are more leadershit than the leadership we all want to work with. We can also be blind or do not know how to move our leadership from leadershit we've all done it at some point in our careers. Each episode follows a chapter, and we dig deep to uncover real-life stories. We want to see more leadership, and to do that, we must uncover and unlearn leadershit. Welcome to season 5. We continue delving into the chapters of Leadership or Leadershit and Chapter 1, Authentic or Fake? We have guest Eric Swick, and we interviewed him in the book and now recollect what's happened and how he lives Leadership or Leadershit with Authentic or Fake? The book is built around eight faces of leadership or leadershit, and we explore each one as Dave and Debbie our interpretation, experiences and thoughts; we then share each chapter with a guest and their experience of it, too. We aim to give you real-life examples that resonate, are relatable, and make a difference. Our style is unedited; it's a conversation, coaching live and real. Into The Unknown PodcastJoin me, Jeremy Swick, on "Into the Unknown," a podcast that delves into personal journeys, stories, and experiences of individuals across diverse professions. As a historian by trade, I firmly believe that our personal histories shape our present and offer valuable insights into our paths ahead. With that being said lets get into it!https://www.swickmedia.com/podcast.htmlMy name is Jeremy Swick and I'm a historian, curator, archivist, gone rouge.Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, raised in Wisconsin, Jeremy is an experienced Historian, Curator, and Archivist, with a passion for history, education, and social media. He is known on social channels as @TheAverageHistorian. Why? He's just an "average guy" who loves playing rugby, talking history (especially sports history!) and continually learning. He has been determined to chase goals which have led to extraordinary experiences. He has professionally worked at several institutions ranging from a historic photography museum to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. How does social media come into the picture?Let him explain... "Through my time working at various museums, one of the glaring issues I noticed was the lack of social media resources for museums. When there were resources available it was often outsourced to giant agencies that had incredibly large bills at the end of the month! I aimed to fix that. Instead of outsourcing many of my projects. I decided to streamline it by doing many aspects myself. This created a blueprint for SWICKMedia."

It's challenging to be in sales right now, and keeping up isn't enough – it's time to get ahead of the curve. Bringing AEs and BDRs together to learn from each other will make your organization stronger and more cohesive. In today's episode, our host Donald Kelly meets with Katie Swick, the Global Sales Enablement Lead at Stripe, to hear how her team's collaborative approach to learning has revolutionized the way they sell. A Symbiotic Relationship When AEs help educate BDRs, the BDRs in turn become better at finding quality leads. This makes the AE's job easier in the long run. BDRs learn better prospecting skills AND what makes a good AE through the program. This makes them more effective in their current positions but also prepares them to be great AEs in the future. AEs also report learning a lot from the process and see the value in training BDRs – they volunteer to help out! Getting Ahead of the Curve BDRs need to understand how to “lose fast” rather than hang on to prospects that aren't going to go anywhere. AEs can educate BDRs on how to identify qualified leads. Technology is moving quickly, and prospecting in particular has changed a lot. BDRs can help AEs upgrade their prospecting skills. Bridging the Gap Between AEs and BDRs In cases where AEs are too busy to handle all potential accounts, BDRs can jump in and help move smaller clients through the pipeline. AEs also, in some cases, will help BDRs with prospecting to add to the top of their sales funnel. “The program is really meant to stay at that cutting edge and say, ‘Hey, what's working? What's not? How do we take advantage of that?' Because we know that a sales technique that worked two years ago probably isn't going to work today.” – Katie Swick Resources Reach out to Katie Swick on LinkedIn Sponsorship Offers This episode is brought to you in part by LinkedIn. Jason Swick was just some guy I met at the Best Horse Practices Summit last fall and we started up a conversation while pulling cockleburrs out of a paint horse's tail behind the scenes. We hit it off immediately and I discovered a pretty unique and interesting guy in the horse world and warrior communities. Behind the scenes serving is where you're always going to find Jason. He's not a fame seeker, but it's amazing just how many friends in high places he has. He just might be another Kevin Baconesque horse guy, as he's just a few degrees of separation from anyone in this business.Jason had a college and pro baseball career as a younger guy. He then got into the Firefighter/EMS/Law Enforcement communities and recently retired after years working as an undercover detective. Jason now owns Day 6 Ranch with his wife where he coaches/mentors those in the warrior community to lead better lives and gives them tools of dealing with the stresses of that profession. He's been a friend of Chris Cox's for years and produces and co-hosts Chris' podcast, Come Ride the Journey. Additionally, Jason has had his own podcast for years, Let Freedom Rein, where he talks about human optimization through horsemanship with his guests. Jason and JR Verzain have more recently begun the podcast, White Horse Remuda, where they talk about the western lifestyle, horses, and walking with Christ.Jason will soon be starting another podcast, Contact and Cover, which is specifically intended for the warrior community. Jason is also a part of the India 68 Foundation, which seeks to help out other non-profits in the veteran and horse worlds come together. The India 68 Foundation recently provided the arena and event help for the last Road to The Horse event. We talk about his life, what it's like to have your cover blown, the worlds of drug and human trafficking, dealing with seeing things that you can't un-see, and how he found horses again as a grown man and their part in his healing/growing into the man he is today. I really enjoy Jason and we tend to cut up a fair bit. This one turned out more serious than I'd have expected. It's a real conversation about some real but unpleasant topics, and I'm sure it will lead to more good conversations as well. You can find Jason at:https://www.day6ranch.com/https://www.facebook.com/India68FoundationHis podcasts are:Let Freedom ReinWhite Horse RemudaContact and Cover
Learn about how Dr. Susan Swick is challenging the paradigm of mental health, redesigning the future of behavioral health facilities and why every community needs a gym for building our mental health resilience. Susan Swick, MD, MPH is the Executive Director of Ohana, designing and leading the development of this Center for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey, California. In addition to evaluation and treatment programs that are evidence-based and family-focused. Ohana programs will also emphasize the cultivation of mental health at the individual, family and community level. This Center is being created with the support of a landmark $100 million gift from a single donor in the hospital's community, reflecting a recognition on both the hospital's and the community's part that the resources available to families seeking care for their children's mental health challenges were sorely lacking. Dr. Swick has a long-standing interest in how adversity affects children and families, and in how well-timed interventions can make a critical difference. Prior to relocating to California in 2018, Dr. Swick served as the Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Newton Wellesley Hospital for five years. While at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, she created a new community health initiative called “The Resilience Project,” partnering with local High Schools to promote the mental health and well-being of youth and their families. She also directed the Parenting At a Challenging Time (PACT) program at Newton-Wellesley, a parent guidance program available to cancer patients who were still raising young children. She was an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she created and ran a course on Parent Guidance for the Child Psychiatry fellows. She attended Medical School at Columbia University, where she also received a Masters in Public Health. She, her husband and their four children are all east-coasters originally, but are happy to call California home.
