Join us Live as we discuss Derrick Ansley's defense training to become a lockdown unit fit to stop any defense cold! The Los Angeles Chargers defense is looking to take a big step forward in 2023. Led by stars like Derwin James and Joey Bosa, the Chargers have one of the most talented defensive units in the NFL. In 2022, the Chargers defense ranked 17th in the NFL in total defense and 19th in scoring defense. However, the Chargers believe that they can be even better in 2023. The Chargers have already have several key pieces this offseason, including Linebacker Eric Kendricks and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.... and Sebastion Joseph-Day is a big, strong defensive tackle who will help to clog up the middle of the Chargers' defense. Samuel Jr. is a physical cornerback who can play both outside and in the slot. And of course! Welcome back to J.C. Jackson to the field, MR. INT himself!!! The Chargers are also hoping for a big year from Derwin James. James is one of the best safeties in the NFL when he is healthy. He has the ability to make plays all over the field. If the Chargers can stay healthy and get consistent production from their young players, they could have a top-5 defense in the NFL in 2023. Bolt Bros Lets goooo!!!! The Los Angeles Chargers took WR Quentin Johnston in the first round, but what does that mean for Keenan Allen and Mike Williams? With 30+ million dollar cap hits in 2024, it could mean a farewell season for one or both of the star receivers. Dan and David also discuss the Chargers signing free agent defensive lineman Nick Williams. Once a big issue for Los Angeles, the interior group is looking much deeper going into 2023. One of question that hasn't been answered is the impact of new defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley. Locked On Chargers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers have less cap flexibility this offseason but Brandon Staley likes where the roster is at. Compared to 2022, the Chargers have more starting spots accounted for but will need to find a couple of them in the draft. Staley gushed over his new coordinators Kellen Moore and Derrick Ansley, and gave insight on why the Chargers moved quickly to secure both. Moore should be an improvement, but the team must get Justin Herbert more speed on offense to truly allow him to blossom. Staley insinuated that one of the positions they might be able to find a difference maker at is at tight end. Locked On Chargers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles allowed defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill to take a demotion in Miami, but it could be a blessing in disguise. Hill may have saw the writing on the wall in LA, or maybe the Chargers will get more from new DC Derrick Ansley. After failing to get the most out of a defense with stars like Derwin James and Joey Bosa, a change felt necessary. The team did move extremely fast to promote Ansley after his impressive work in the secondary. Can his track record of development spread throughout the rest of the defense? The Chargers also promoted Tom Donatell into a new role as secondary coach and passing game coordinator. After receiving interest from other teams, Los Angeles seemed eager to lock his services down with a bigger role. In hour 3 of The Drive, we talked about MJ vs. Barkley, Jam or Not A Jam, Bear hates on Canada and admits to grabbing a hot iron, and we talked Derrick Ansley.
GoVols247's Wes Rucker (from Fort Rucker Studio) and Patrick Brown (from his house at an undisclosed location across town) convened via the magic of Al Gore's Internets to discuss an offseason checklist of sorts for Tennessee's quarterbacks and wide receivers. The secondary at Tennessee has always been a well-coached group under head coach Jeremy Pruitt and defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley, and the Vols return plenty of experience from last season. Segment No. 1 of this episode focuses on Tennessee's deep cornerback spots. That group — led by junior star Bryce Thompson — has the potential to become one of the SEC's best in 2020, if junior Alontae Taylor, sophomore Warren Burrell, senior Kenneth George Jr. and others take a step forward. A strong finish last season from Shawn Shamburger helped Tennessee solidify the crucial nickel spot in the secondary, and Shamburger will return for his senior season to give the Vols another important piece of the puzzle. Some discussion on Shamburger and the other options at nickel are included in the first segment. The safeties take center stage in the second segment of this episode, and there's plenty to discuss there, as well. Nigel Warrior last season finally became the All-SEC-caliber player so many expected him to be, but he was a senior and is currently preparing for the NFL Draft. Tennessee returns plenty of talent and experience at the safety positions, though, with sophomore Jaylen McCollough, junior Trevon Flowers and senior Theo Jackson expected to be the top three competitors for the starting spots. Others, including talented sophomore Tyus Fields, also hope to get themselves into the mix. Discussion on Tennessee's two (and potentially three) secondary newcomers — versatile athletes Keyshawn Lawrence and Tamarion McDonald, and safety Doneiko Slaughter — hope to get themselves in the mix, as well, and discussion on all three of those freshmen is included in this episode. There's also discussion senior Baylen Buchanan, a former starter who will be back in the mix at cornerback if he's able to overcome a complicated health situation that forced him to redshirt last season. The next GoVols247 Podcast episode will be released Thursday, unless major breaking news occurs before that point. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

GoVols247's Wes Rucker, Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan went into the Fort Rucker Sun Room to break down Tennessee's second spring camp under coach Jeremy Pruitt. The Vols obviously had a laundry list of things to improve after a 5-7 record in Pruitt's first season, and many of those things couldn't possibly be solved in a single spring camp. But some of them could, in theory, right? Well … were they solved? Or at least sort of solved? Did Tennessee take necessary steps forward on both lines of scrimmage this spring? What did the offense look like under new (old) coordinator Jim Chaney? Were there any noticeable differences in the defense under new coordinator Derrick Ansley? Who helped themselves this spring? Who didn't? Who was somewhere in between? And what are the biggest things on the checklist heading into the summer? Obviously there's plenty to discuss, and this episode discusses plenty. Derrick Ansley (3.31.19) by Volquest.com staff
GoVols247's Wes Rucker, Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan went into Fort Rucker Studio to discuss all things Vols through the first four practices of spring camp. Second-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt hasn't made it a secret that his offense has essentially kicked the defense's tail for much of camp to this point, which is something you don't usually see early in a spring camp or preseason camp, especially when an offense has a new coordinator. The Vols seem to have taken well to new offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, though, and their experience on that side of the ball certainly has helped smooth than transition process. Has the past couple of weeks been cause for hype on offense, or has it been a cause for pause for a Tennessee defense that has a new coordinator (Derrick Ansley) but is running the same system it did last season? Or does it really matter? Is there any way to say for sure, especially when much of camp to this point hasn't been played in full pads? Discussing of Tennessee's spring camp is the primary talking point in this episode, but there's also discussion of Tennessee's annual Pro Timing Day and which former Vols might have helped their cause during the Thursday morning workout for NFL scouts. It's been a roller coaster ride of a week for the Colorado State Rams and their fans.On Monday, it looked like CSU had landed a huge hire in Derrick Ansley, the DBs coach at Alabama, to be the Rams next defensive coordinator. All while Rams head coach Mike Bobo was featured on the coaches film room, doing well there to represent the program. But, then Ansley was lured away by the Oakland Raiders of the NFL, leaving Bobo and the Rams to scramble.
