Welcome back Listeners! This episode we'll be tackling a Netflix Anime, based on a manga, about a troupe of Drakers (thats whalers, but with dragons) that live on an airship and spend their whole lives hunting dragons for food and oil. Its called Drifting Dragons, and spoiler: We did not like it :DJoin us for a fairly long review followed by a brief discussion that tangents out into whaling in general, help us attack the poorly conceived main character, and just overall have a good time bashing the show with us, I think this might be the first time we cover something that all three hosts disliked together. We discuss Bad Idea's Button, G.I. Joe Classified and the fear of missing out, and the Drifting Dragons manga. Plus, we pack a whole lot more into the nooks and crannies of this episode. Tastes like it's got butter inside. Some Highlights:- The Button: We discuss the new click-demanding overlord- Ramon Villalobos was announced, and it was almost missed -- we didn't miss it- We detour into cancel-ville, and try to delicately navigate those roads- We relish in the art of some of our favorite Bad Idea illustrators: Lewis, Ramon, Juan... now give us Mico!- Our reading habits are smeared all over the place, do you have this problem?- The difficulty of getting G.I. Joe Classified figures, and the NES Classic- How do we handle that fear of missing out?- Paul is better at avoiding the Pokemon effect -- he doesn't have to get them all- Sean's Transformers/Wolverine rule for movies, and how it applies to G.I. Joe- How not to tell people what to enjoy- Umbrella Academy is some good stuff -- and strange- Drifting Dragons aren't your hobbit's typical dragon- Finding that New Thing is very exciting: we have recent examples
We recorded this episode only a few months ago, and yet anything before quarantine began feels like a lifetime ago. Anyways, this is "Drifting Dragons" volumes 1 and 2 by Taku Kuwabara. Faith Erin Hicks joins us again for a deep dive into a manga about hunting, killing, and eating dragons. We also get lost on detours about analogy, cartoonist envy, and what it means to be famous in comics. Music by Sleuth Our next episode will be on volume 1 of "Saga" by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples.

The 4-Panel gang return with another heaping helping of comics and manga goodness, and this week there's plenty to talk about. First up are Marvel's newest super team and their first few outings in Strikeforce: Trust Me, Jeff Lemire's new world-crossing barbaruan in the first volume of Berserker Unbound, and the first two volumes of Taku Kuwabara's controversial manga series Drifting Dragons. After that it's time for a bit of speed in Spider-Man: Velocity, some colourfully cosmic shenanigans in Silver Surfer: Black, and a return to the strange minds of Alejandro Jodorowsky and François Boucq on Twisted Tales. VanCAF 2020 was held online, due to the world being in its current state, and so the TradeWaiters panel we pitched them became an online event as well. I present to you "Reading Deeply," on how to get the most out of your comics reading experience. The audio quality on this one isn't great, sorry. Some of us (me) didn't think to get high quality microphones before a pandemic made new cameras and mics impossible to acquire. Our primary examples for this episode are: "Scott Pilgrim" and "Seconds" both by Bryan Lee O'Malley "V for Vendetta" by Alan Moore and David Lloyd "Berlin" by Jason Lutes "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" by Hayao Miyazaki and "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi Music by Sleuth Our next episode will be the one we recorded with Faith Erin Hicks on the first two volumes of "Drifting Dragons" by Taku Kuwabara.

I tweeted earlier that all the Manga In Your Ears episodes were done and edited, then I went and recorded another one, so all but one are recorded. Also I still have three Taiiku episodes to edit, RIP me. This episode, we're talking about Beck and Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, both published by Kodansha. The songs you heard at the beginning of the episode were "Hit in the USA" by Beat Crusaders, "Brainstorm" by Beck, and "Moon on the Water" by Koyuki and Maho, the latter two from the Beck dub and the former is the opening to the anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK, and my co-hosts Helen (@WanderinDreamr) and Apryll (@manjiorin) on Twitter at those places in the parenthesis. You can find both of their writing at The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses, more of Helen's writing at Narrative Investigations, and my writing at the Fandom Post. This should have been the 3/13 episode. Listen Show notes: 0:39 - We talk about Beck! 14:00 - We talk about Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card! Next time is Fruits Basket and Drifting Dragons!
