Over Coffee®is on holiday hiatus. Happy New Year, and please enjoy this reposting of one of our top episodes of 2022. What if you're hosting a virtual event this year? A meeting, workshop, or other gathering--even a virtual party? Sean Specie, of Atlanta-based Elevate Experiences, can tell you how to make it a great one. At Elevate Experiences, Sean wears multiple hats. He is their Chief Strategy Officer, Event Planner, Event Producer and Emcee. Needless to say, he excels at creating a great time for virtual participants, as he involves them in online, hybrid or even onsite events. Originally, Sean says, Elevate Experience was not a virtual-events company. And to this day, their "custom experience creation" services still include hosting in-person events. But like many other organizations, they've had to re-imagine their original business plan, due to the pandemic. And in the process, Sean has been able to put his event expertise to work--and grow creatively in that area, to the point that he could write several books. Which is great, because--he's planning on publishing his first one, later this year! Sean talked about his background and the ways Elevate Experiences has evolved in the virtual space, explained his five-step event producing process, and shared Elevate's free resources for creating the best virtual events. On this edition of Over Coffee®, we cover: How Sean's background led to his passion for creating special events; What the transition was like, for Sean and the Elevate Experiences staff, going from onsite events to virtual; A troubleshooting lesson from the first paid virtual event they did (“it's funny thinking back,” Sean says); A walk-through of planning a virtual event, using Sean's five-step process; How to engage audience members; A preview of Sean's upcoming book!; Three types of backgrounds that work well for virtual events; Two common mistakes people make, when conducting virtual events (and what to do instead); Some great free resources, for planning your next virtual event!; How to troubleshoot, if something goes wrong while you're hosting a virtual event; One statement that can help ensure a smooth virtual event, if shared with the audience upfront. Look for Sean's new book, “Shattering the Fourth Wall” (working title), which will be coming out very shortly! Follow him on LinkedIn for updates.
This week we had the opportunity to interview (and be interviewed) by Tim Woodring, host of the Meetings & Events Podcast and Chief Solutions Officer at Unbridled. Sean joined Tim in the studio to talk about all things events, acting as both the interviewer and the interviewee in this two-part conversation. This week's episode features the first part of this conversation, as Tim asks Sean some questions about his experience in the events industry. Sean breaks down some of the important aspects of virtual events and even talks about the reasons behind our name change from Elevate Live Events to Elevate Experiences. He then breaks down the top three things to consider when planning a virtual event: Plan short segments during your virtual events Interact with the audience as much as possible Entertain your audience through a screen We hope you enjoy today's episode and be sure to tune in next week for the rest of the conversation, where Sean flips the script and interviews Tim. Be sure to check out Tim's podcast: Meeting & Events Podcast. And don't forget to follow Tim on LinkedIn.
In this episode of the Meetings & Events Podcast, we are joined by Sean Specie, Chief Strategy Officer at Elevate Experiences. With a rise in hybrid and virtual events, many are asking the question, is an event host really necessary or even worth it? We discuss with Sean why this is a much needed consideration when executing any component of a virtual event, and the risks taken when clients decide to fly solo. Halfway through the episode, we flip the script for Sean to interview our podcast host, Tim Woodring, in which we discuss how to navigate this new world of events, what's changing, and the need to reinvent the events ecosystem playbook.

We've all been attending a lot of virtual events these days, and I think you'll agree with me when I say:Most of them suck. And if you're throwing one yourself, it's easy to worry that yours will, too.But today's LinkedIn Live guest, Billy Boughey, Founder & President at Elevate Experiences, is proof that, with planning and intention, virtual events don't have to suck. What we talked about:Why small details matterWhy you need to approach virtual events like an athleteHow to combine thinking and feelingCheck out these resources we mentioned during the podcast:The Ultimate Virtual Event Roadmap

How to become a leader and commit to change This week’s guest is off the charts motivating and charming, he lights up the room every time he walks in and he loves, cares, and serves at the highest level possible. Billy Boughey is master of all things leadership, and hands down one of the most dynamic speakers I have ever seen. He leads with example and from the soul, and as an enneagram 7, has truly mastered how to bring fun and movement into leadership. Listen to this podcast to hear how you can leverage media to tell stories and connect, increase performance and improve your business culture, and find out exactly what it takes to be a leader and commit to overhauling your company culture—starting with you. Listen now The story behind the glory We start off discussing Billy’s success and how most people look at the glory instead of the story behind it. He shares how the grind and hustle determines your mindset—how you have to decide whether things happen to you or for you. He shares what it was like growing up in his household, how his stepfather was emotionally and physically abusive, how they lived paycheck to paycheck as his mother struggled to support them. Billy speaks about playing professional baseball and how it enabled him to find faith and confidence, and how this led to his transition to leading. He discusses how identifying your strengths and weaknesses and working on self-awareness are part of the process to becoming a better leader, and how it ensures that your weaknesses aren’t your undoing. Starting the movement When it comes to overhauling a culture, he shares how he helps and how you have to be willing to commit to the process and make the decision to change in order to see change happen. He shares the four things he tells every leader, and how doing the work as a leader first will help others follow. Billy discusses how he uses entertainment, songs, and movement throughout his work, and how putting action and movement creates lasting change. Stop withholding and start doing--the beauty happens when you start moving into who you are supposed to be. Culture is a set of beliefs, systems, traditions, actions, interactions, structures, non-verbal communication, and activities an organization allows. It’s everything you see, hear, and do. Every organization and group of people have a culture. Sometimes a culture is toxic, sometimes it’s healthy. For many workplaces, the only time culture is top of mind is in a theoretical sense or when there is an event outside of the normal work. The aim of this book is to shift from theory to practice so you can benefit for years to come.Signs of a healthy culture: People show up on timeMeetings are energized and focusedProjects have momentum and creativityCollaboration is welcomed and encouragedNew positions are filled with the right team membersPeople feel valued and heardTeam member expectations are clearTeam members post positively on social media about where they workSigns of a toxic culture:Meetings are not focused and lack energyPeople are focused more on their own needs, not the needs of a collective teamNew ideas are not welcomedCreativity is stifledRevenue plateausTeam members get burned out quicklyThere is a lack of clarity on expectationsTeam members complain on social media about where they work am about to state the obvious, but doesn’t a healthy culture sound better?▬▬▬▬▬▬►SUBSCRIBE AND HIT THE NOTIFICATION BELL ◄▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5U0invXUtqoyrAnniwDjhQ/?sub_confirmation=1 ▬▬▬▬▬▬►FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA ◄▬▬▬▬▬▬ https://twitter.com/TallyBeanTeam https://www.facebook.com/thebeanteam/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/bean-team ▬▬▬▬▬▬►WEBSITE ◄▬▬▬▬▬▬ http://beanteam.com

Almost every leader acknowledges the importance of culture. But few actually know how to build an engaging and lasting culture for their business. Billy Boughey is the Founder & President at Elevate Experiences. Billy had a brief stint as a professional baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies, but now he and his team at Elevate serve to show organizations the importance of culture. They know a healthy culture sets your company up for both the present and the future. Growing up, Billy thought baseball was a solo act. He'd get on the mound and attempt to conquer the other team by himself. But over the years, he learned he needed the entire team, and he fell in love with the concept of bring different people's gifts and talents together onto one team. Billy was also raised by Hip Hop music (The Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest), and developed a love of storytelling. After his professional baseball experience, he saw there was a gap in the market for taking brand experiences and translating them to the marketplace. His background in team building and storytelling made this new career as Founder of Elevate the perfect match. In this episode of the Leadercast Podcast, we caught up with Billy to hear about how he built his culture at his own company, and how he helps other organizations build engaging cultures themselves.
