This week, Dan Hugger, Noah Gould, and Emily Zanotti discuss the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Maryland. They then turn their attention to the announcement of the God Bless the USA Bible, the only Bible endorsed by President Trump and country music sensation Lee Greenwood. How should the international community respond? Will this tragedy cause Americans on the extreme left and right develop a more critical attitude toward Vladimir Putin? Next, recent discoveries of rare-earth minerals in Wyoming promise to give the U.S. a geopolitical and economic edge, but what tradeoffs are involved in the extraction of natural resources? Then—what does OpenAI's plans for investment in chip production mean for our world and our home? Finally, the gang reflects on the penitential season of Lent. This week, Eric is joined first by Mark Clifford, the president of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong, as they discuss the National Security Law trial of Jimmy Lai in Hong Kong. After numerous delays, the trial has finally started. What charges is Jimmy facing, of which he will certainly be convicted? What comes after those convictions, both in regard to the cause of freeing Jimmy Lai and the cause of freedom in Hong Kong? What significance do the calls from the U.K. and American governments for Lai to be released hold? Then Eric is joined by Noah Gould and Emily Zanotti to discuss the Satanic Temple's statue of the pagan idol Baphomet in the Iowa State House. Should such displays be prohibited? If so, on what grounds? What does the legal jurisprudence say on matters like this? Does the First Amendment require indulging efforts to troll people of faith? And finally, Sam Bankman-Fried was indicted and convicted on multiple federal charges related to fraud perpetrated at his cryptocurrency exchange FTX. His adopted philosophy of effective altruism has also come in for criticism in the wake of the conviction. The group discusses Noah's piece in Fusion magazine on the topic. This week, Eric and Dan are joined by Emily Zanotti, a new contributing editor at the Acton Institute, as they tackle the latest indictment of former president Donald Trump. Again we ask: Does the act of indicting a former president and current candidate for president alone render America a banana republic? What's the difference between this case and cases of other prominent politicians—such as Joe Biden, Mike Pence, and Hillary Clinton—mishandling classified information? If there is a double standard at play, how do we rectify that situation to make it a single standard going forward? Next, the group examines comments by Bishop Athanasius Schneider that Catholics can't suffer from depression. How should we think about the power of faith in the context of mental illness? How much of this is an overreaction to the seeming obsession with mental health problems in the modern world? This week on the Groupthink Podcast, Tyler and DailyWire Senior Editor Emily Zanotti joins the show discuss what it's like to be a successful millennial and how she created the Catholic Yenta project.
The National Archives online catalogue is now putting trigger warnings on America's founding documents, according to reporting from September 8, 2021 by Emily Zanotti at The Daily Wire. Historical materials and documents - including, but not limited to our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights - which may contain "harmful language" have been given a trigger warning at the top of the page if they "reflect racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes; be discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more; include graphic content of historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more; demonstrate bias and exclusion in institutional collecting and digitizing policies." As the DW piece by Zanotti points out toward the end, one of the recommendations provided by a little noticed report from a National Archives task force suggesting major changes included providing context to the rotunda for the building for the National Archives in Washington, DC through 'dance or performance art in the space that invites dialogue about the ways that the United States has mythologized the founding era.' Setting aside the patent absurdity of dance and performance art in the rotunda being used to undermine and desecrate America's founding, is it too much to ask for more specificity here? What specifically is the "harmful language" being warned about by our own nation's bureaucratic recordkeepers? Where is this alleged racism, sexism, ableism, misogyny, misogynoir, or xenophobia? But then that is not first and foremost the point. And as David Horowitz has put it, "the issue is not the issue; the issue is the revolution." The revolution here is not first and foremost about all of these forms of alleged discrimination. The revolution is about tearing down our nation's founding, and we should all be concerned by what will fill the vacuum. As a brief aside, it would be an interesting exercise to task the folks at NARA with rewriting our nation's founding documents to their likings, and seeing what they come up with. But in all seriousness, this story underscores the great need to pull our children out of the public education system, and homeschool them. Teach your children at home about civics, political science, philosophy, history, critical thinking, and theology. Teach the next generation to be able to govern when this all falls apart, because there is no sustainability to our nation being governed and ruled by persons and parties who resent and despise America. Either we select new leadership and a new government for ourselves which actually loves this country, or else it is only a matter of time before some other more self-confident and assertive nation takes us over and rules us from elsewhere. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support
60 Minutes uploaded a video to YouTube on May 16, 2021 titled 'Navy pilots describe encounters with UFOs.' As of May 30, roughly 7.5 million views have racked up, and there are over 42,000 comments. It seems every time I refresh the home pages for The Blaze, The Epoch Times, and The Daily Wire, there is another story on new disclosures from the U.S. government regarding UFOs. For instance, I read one this morning from Paul Sacca at The Blaze - 'Leaked video reportedly shows swarm of UFOs circling US Navy combat ship; Pentagon investigating.' For another example, consider this piece from Emily Zanotti at The Daily Wire - 'Head Of Pentagon UFO Office: Government In Possesion of ‘Exotic' Materials From ‘Mysterious Vehicles'' The images and footage are eerie. So also are the statements from officials and military servicemembers. If we define our terms, all a UFO means is that something is in our skies that we cannot identify. We don't know who it belongs to, where it came from, or what it's doing here. All we know is that we are reckoning with something which has capabilities which surpasses the capabilities of the most advanced technology we know we possess. Perhaps our own government has developed something we just haven't been told about. Or maybe some other nation's government has. But the third possibility is that some other form of life from elsewhere in the universe is visiting us. And it is that third possibility I want most to explore here. As a Christian, I reserve my fear for the Most High God who created the heavens and earth and everything in them. And if some other form of life besides God and man exists, my Sovereign God knows it fully and made it. And I do not need to fear what that life is capable of because I know it is not capable of anything more than what God permits. But beyond that general truth, we read vague and passing references in the Scriptures to a created order of beings in between God and man. And though I am content that the Lord has told us enough when we read that they exist and are subordinate to him, it is fair game to speculate about them even as we reserve our obedience, fear, and worship for the Most High.

Emily Zanotti has argued in front of the Supreme Court, so she knows a thing or two about what makes a good case. The second impeachment trial of President Trump has begun and it appears the Democrats want to charge him with “inciting a riot.” As Emily explains, it is extremely difficult to prove the charge of inciting a riot. She breaks down the legal standard it would take. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We've all heard the complaints about Catholic dating. Catholics have trouble with the concept of "casual dating" because they (rightly) see dating as oriented toward marriage but (wrongly) put all that weight on a single date. Some are perpetually "discerning" without ever really going anywhere. Women feel like if they don't find a spouse during their four years at a Catholic college, they've missed their chance. Some problems we share with the rest of the world: Men won't ask women out because they're timid or tranquilized by video games and porn. Women often feel they have to put on a persona, whether of a Jane Austen character or a "fierce" feminist (YAAAAS, SLAY QUEEN!). Matchmaker Emily Zanotti, known as the "Catholic Yenta", joins the show to discuss these and other pathologies of Catholic dating, and explains how she went from helping her friends find their spouses to handpicking matches for people across the country. Also interviewed is Eric Niehaus, creator of a soon-to-be-launched events app called Koin, which will allow Catholics to find and plan activities and events with other Catholics in their area. In a world in which Catholics often feel socially isolated, Koin aims to help us foster real-life community.
